my favorite apples... empire is definitely #1. it's a cross between red delicious and mcintosh, but in my opinion it's more a crunchier, sweeter, juicier version of a mcintosh than anything near a red delicious (which i hate). and then there's pink lady, fuji, and granny smith and mcintosh when they're fresh and crunchy. i like crunchy, juicy apples, basically :) |

| hmm, personally, i think keeping ALL junk out of hte house is actually bad. you'd end up craving them and buying them and then binging at some point in your life. i know limiting is hard (and i used to do exactly what you did!), but before you eat anything, think. really think. and remember that, say, if you eat half of a cookie, the other half will still be there tomorrow-- it's not like it would disappear if you don't eat it now. basically what i'm trying to say is that you can still eat those sweets and things, just make sure you limit yourself. plan out your meals so you have calories left for a treat, then tell yourself that tomorrow is a new day and when it comes, you can have the rest of the treat. it's really hard to do at first but you'll definitely feel much better (physically and mentally) when you master this portion control thing :) | |||
| Weight Loss | unsupportive parents ... and do i need to eat more? | Feb 24 2008 15:29 (UTC) |

thanks for reading this and for all the support... yeah, i'm actually going to see a doctor probably some time this week and bring my parents along. although it's kind of funny to note that both my parents are doctors themselves... just not so much in the area of eating and nutrition, haha. their beliefs are sometimes so contradictory and ridiculous that it's almost amusing. and anmoore23, the link is great, thanks for posting it! |

| Health & Support | Overweight and no period | Jan 26 2008 15:33 (UTC) |

i basically never had regular periods. when i was 14 years old (and was 5-1 and weighed about 140 pounds) my gynecologist very nicely told me (almost exact quote), you don't get your period because you are too fat, get off the couch and exercise. which of course pissed me off because i was doing two sports in school plus gym class. and by the time i was 17, i had switched doctors. she told me that it wasn't my weight that was the problem, and since my hormone levels and everything was normal and didn't have polycystic ovarian syndrome, no, she didn't know what was wrong. so i've been on birth control ever since and it sucks. i stopped taking the pill for three months; my period came for one month, then it stopped again, so now i'm on the pill again. i absolutely detest the extra hormones, but alas, i don't have a choice. i personally feel like it's just such a complicated matter, and my plan is to just keep taking bc and keep losing weight. i'm supposed to stop the pills every half a year or so to see if i'd get my period without it, so i guess it's to determine if being overweight is in fact my problem. although i feel like it may not be, because there are probably lots of overweight people who have normal periods. good luck! |

| same here, i look at the menus before i go, even though it tends to be wrong sometimes. my dining hall pretty much has horrible food, so i end up eating salad with soup and then some meat that doesn't look too fattening. also, take a ziploc bag or tupperwear box and sneak back some fruits, veggies, and yogurt if you can. that'll keep you going for the day, plus you'll feel like you didn't waste your meals :) | |||
