Health & Support Has anyone heard of Hyper-Inflammatory Response with h.pylori... PLEASE READ THIS Dec 07 2008

Thank you! Well, apparently it's something they're just now starting to isolate and define...it goes hand in hand with metabolic syndrome, syndrome X, insulin resistance..I had so many problems from inflamed sinuses to cervical cells, and now everything is tamed down (unbelievably). I even had muscle wasting from the insulin resistance, etc..but..so say the docs...once I'm done with this medicine, everything will return to normal, and I can build muscle again.

This all started so long ago, I can't even believe it's just this h.pylori thing (h.pylori causes ulcers in some folks, inflames others). Before ALL this happened, I weighed 95 lbs, had horrible heart burn, but they only gave me antacids bc they didn't even know about h.pylori back then.

I'm very excited to see how it goes! Hope this information helps someone out there who is banging their head against the wall like I have been all these years!

Good luck all!

I defintely empathasize with you! That has been my worst nightmare of a question! I am about the same weight as you, and I am small, only 5'4". Because of health problems, my weight is mostly in my stomach, and I'm just waiting for someone to ask me. I've lost a significant amount of weight lately, and I hope it keeps on truckin...but I know what that feeling is like.

I'm sorry that ignorant people are out there. Maybe they didn't realize what they were saying, or maybe they just didn't think. But, if you want to make changes for yourself, do so. BUT PLEASE don't let what one person says change how you feel about yourself. When I was 17 I didn't even weigh 100 lbs. I got sick and have grown to 265 at the most. I tried to never let my weight, or what anyone else thought they were lookin' at, change my spirit.

If you're a happy girl, be happy now and everyday! Your weight doesn't change your heart, and everyday is yours for the taking. I always thought it would be so sad to "wait" until I lost my weight to feel happy/satisfied, so much time would pass me by! Live every day fully, and love yourself! When you get there, you get there...but remember this -- you are no different on the inside, and you have one life to live...love every part of you--then your own happiness will keep you taking good care of yourself!

Do you have the Buffalo seasoned chicken breast meat in your deli? Boars' Head brand, Sara Lee, and Honeysucke (I think) make it...it's SOOOOOOOO good!  It's very low cal, tastes great with tomato, lettuce on wheat or multi-grain and you could sprinkle just a little blue cheese crumbles and lite italian dressing, or go Buffalo-style and mix a mayo of your choice with the blue cheese and put a little layer on the bread.

I'm from Buffalo, and it's the closest thing to a chicken wing I can have these days. The spicey but very tasty heat on the chicken makes is taste rich, not light. And I do the reduced cal Hellman's (Best Foods') with just a teaspoon of blue cheese crumbles (the sell reduced fat ones here now.) Sometimes I'll opt for even a little more heat and put on the Frank's Red Hot Buffalo Sauce...it's a staple here like milk, butter, eggs...:D

Try that out! I swear, you won't be disappointed. You can save a lot of calories, too, by using the Pepperidge Farms lightstyle Oatmeal bread...very tasty, not at all like air or cardboard like some others. Just portion controlled yummy.

Let me know what you think!

Goodnight everyone!

:)

Swoolfolk,

I don't have any kids and am single, so i haven't gone the fertility treatment route yet. But...let me say this. I am familiar with people taking Clomid for increasing their fertility in general, and especially with PCOS. I have also heard of people trying the metformin (glucophage) for a period of time before they try the clomid and begin trying to get pregnant.  Glucophage heightens the insulin sensitivity of your cells, making anyone with Insulin Resistance less so, and that helps PCOS-ers immensely. Maybe look into that, too. Glucophage is listing as an antidiabetic agent, but it is not a medicine that lowers your blood sugar like other meds for diabetics do...it only helps your own cells do their job better.  PCOS patients are often highly linked with insulin resistance. :D

I'm really glad that you can relate to this posting thread. It actually semi-choked me up for a sec because I am so happy to have spoken to you all already via this thread. The support offered here is amazing, and I think that if we all put our brains (and hearts) together, we might have the best chance we've ever had at getting past the side effects of PCOS. Don't ya think?  Girls, I'm not a man-hater by any means, but I'm telling you...if one man went through this, and someone questioned his fertility, etc... there would be a world-wide coalition against it! Come on...how much effort and scientific research is put into things like Viagra?! Now, I'm being sarcastic not nasty, here girls...but really, who will carry the PCOS torch?  The doctor that finally diagnosed me pointed that out, never thought toomuch about it until then. But I've read more about PCOS, Metabolic Syndrome, Syndrome X, etc. in Women's World, First, and those grocery line magazines than i've ever heard about on television and in the news.  Hopefully, once they can pick just one name for it all...we'll get somewhere closer to proper diagnosis and treatment.....WOWIE!!! was that a soap box or what ladies!

So glad to have you all around....what a great cheering squad! Here we go girls!

Goodnight all..zzzzzzz

New Members has anyone ever taken adipex and ditex with chromium for weight loss? Jan 16 2008

Hi, I don't know about ditex..not sure what it is. But Adipex-P I heard is not the greatest. I heard it works really well, but was addicting. Ask a pharmacist in your area what they think of it...they'll tell you what the side effects are and if it's a safe one.  I worked in a pharmacy like 10 years ago, and I swear that a Doctor was "selling" prescriptions for Adipex-P to women for "favors." Sorry for all the quotes...I remember that, though, because that doctor lost his license for what he was doing, and I remember all the ladies that used to come to the pharmacy with those prescriptions.  Some of those drugs speed up your heart rate, so be careful. Especially if your blood pressure is up.  Feel free to email me if you'd like. I have a very similar story. I went from 97 lbs to almost 250 lbs in 9 monthes because a doctor put me on hormones to regulate my period. argh...

Happy to lend a hand.. Are you a new member? I am....looking forward to this year!

LOVE THE FIBRE ONE BARS!!!!!!! The chocolate chip ones are amazing, the peanut butter okay, but not as thrilling as the chocolate chip ones are. I can't believe, with all that fibre, they taste just like some kiddie-lunch box Quaker granola bar that I was toting around in 7th grade! I've had the Fibre One buds (ok, I don't think that's their name) and they are good. They're a little honey-coated or something, and you can put them on yogurt, in salad, crushed up on chicken. They are good...try this..raspberries, blueberries, strawberries with vanilla yogurt and these little crunchies..Yummie!! Goodnight all. -Nicole

Hi everyone! Nicole, here again! I'm so excited to get into this year with you all...we sound like a great bunch, don't we! I, too think that 2008 is going to be a great year for me, I'm 33 this year (3 is my fave number, so maybe it'll be TWICE as good!) I did not work out today, but I had a phenomally tasty (and light) dinner from this local dive called Amy's Place. It was all Mediterranean, whole grain-y, vegetable-icious, and AWESOME!! Anyone, good healthy food lately?

Drea 99,

I love doing the whole foods, low glycemic diet. When I fell off the wagon, fifty pounds flew back on. It's a nice, wholesome, healthy, and Natural way to eat.  I'd be glad to share with you...Give me a couple days to gather my info into a concise little bundle, and I'll send you a message here on calorie count plus email.  Does that sound okay with you?

Glad to see you caught my post online. I'm totally new to posting things, too.  I read Atkins is not good for usPCOS-ers.  I'll try to find my info for you, but here's the deal...something about the strict Atkins diet causing ketosis, which sort of irritates the inside of our blood vessels and makes the lining a bit jagged, which they makes a bigger surface area for plaque and atherosclerosis to form. okay...so I'm a science nerd nurse. I've been a trauma ICU nurse for years, and I need to look into studies and be well read on things all the time...so, I read that in some journal. I'll try and figure it out for you and let you know where I read that.  In plain english and not nerd-speak, we PCOS-ers need to stay away from anything that helps our bodies hold on to cholesterol and all those things that contribute to heart attacks, strokes, etc... I went to a homeopathic nurse practitioner (among anyone else that would help me figure this out) and she said the whole foods, low glycemic diet is the best one. (it mimics South Beach Diet). Not too much fat, just healthy...more nuts and berries.

Tongue out  That was a lot of typing...phew!

I'll check into that Atkins study deal, and let you know. Do you have any helpful hints? Feel free to email me here.

Goodnight!

Have you tried the Kashi TLC Chocolate Chip breakfast cookie? They are fabulous, one of those and I'm full for about 4 hours, honest! They are oatmeal-y, chock full of chocolate chunks, and come in other flavors, too. I also like the Zone Chocolate Mint bar for a meal replacement if I'm on the go. I'm an ICU nurse, so sometimes a sit down lunch is not an option. The chocolate mint bar tastes like a Girl Scout Think Mint. Yummie!!

Look for the TLC cookie, let me know what you think!

Hi there, I just thought I posted but it looks like it got erased or something! Please count me in too! I'm very new to the chat group thing, but I'd love to offer and get some support to beat this once and for all!  After an illness, I gained 120 lbs, I've got about 100 left to lose, and I can't wait to do so!! I have PCOS (anyone familiar) and there's a lot of problems that go along with it if you don't fight the weight gain...infertility, diabetes, heart attack, stroke, and cancer. Before this, I was a healthy girl who danced and toured around with a production show...never weighing over 110 lbs! Well, that was when I was 20, and I'm still at about 240 lbs at 33 years old. I'd love to weigh 150 pounds, but 140 pounds would be the GREATEST! I love this site, and I'm thrilled about having the help to stay strong and do this. 2008 will be our year folks! I've been trying Weight Watc hers points out (no meetings, just points) and have lost 4.2 lbs since January 1st, but I love the Food Log on this site. I'm an ICU nurse, so the idea of balancing numbers and logging things is RIGHT up my alley! My first log (today) looks great, I got an "A" how encouraging is that?! I might just switch to this plan only and see how I do without the point watching in addition.  Anyway, babbling on...GOOD LUCK EVERYONE, and I'm thrilled to be on this journey with you all! PS- Where are you all from? I'm from Buffalo, NY. Go SABRES!! :D -Nicole
