Have you tried checking out low glycemic foods?  I spent quite a while studying South Beach Diet and really wanted to know HOW low glycemic foods worked, how my body would react, etc.  It was worth the education.  Eating these foods will reduce your cravings for sweets and carbs in a big way, I encourage you to try it.   Good luck.

Hey you guys!!!  Not sure if I will make the B2B this year but Mick and Jola and I were talking about making massive amounts of (Sugar Free) Jello Shooters to sell.  Maybe we'll walk some too :)  We did not register.

Hey Moogs and Michelle, I would be interested in the bike ride, that's been my main source of exercise of late.

The Island Soyaki sauce is great for marinating meats.  Also,  the vegie burgers (Tomato Mozzarella) and the one that has an Indian flavor to it are the best.  Hummus is the best Hummus I've tried (and I try a lot) and their marinated lamb in the bag is GREAT for kabobs.

Hey you guys!!! xoxooxoxxo  SORRY to have been MIA the past week, it is not because I have fallen totally off the wagon so soon!!!  I will read all the new entries and catch up on everyone's progress!  I went on a big camping trip to Jawbone Canyon last weekend and had so much fun and actually did really well on the eating but drank way too much around the campfire, oh no!  I'm not too worried about it though.

We rode 86 miles on our dirtbikes on Saturday and I have never done that many miles before and I'm just getting back into this and after arriving home on Sunday night and counting my bruises (couple crashes!!)  I was stiff and sore so bad for at least 4 days afterward and I may have bounced a kidney because I was peeing blood for a good solid day.  I did not go to the doctor because it stopped.  Anway, I think my body was full of fluids because I had a lot of swelling and edima (sp?) as my body slowly let go of the soreness in all my muscles, especially my lower body.

My good friends Mick and his girlfriend Jola are so thoughtful, they came over on Wednesday and we were going to go walk my normal walk path to start working on easing the stiffness with exercise, they knew how sore I was because they were on the same camping trip. We ended up just making dinner and having a couple glasses of wine by the fireplace but I really thought the world of them for taking the time to come over and see how I was doing, even if we didn't do the walk - we were all tired from work.

Then all week long it was time to do Year End review with all the people that report into me so I was driving all over the place for meetings and just was really focused on work.  Thurs and Friday I was in meetings all day long with my boss and peers getting ready for '09.

I just wanted to check in with you all and let you know I'M STILL HERE just been under water this past week!  I feel great and still focused on creating a calorie deficit to stay on track!  I am starting up the early morning walks again now that I am not stiff and sore and full of fluid and no longer peeing blood and back to a normal routine!!

I wish everyone a happy weekend - now go get some exercise if you have not already done so!!!!  Love, MKD!!

I did WOG this morning!!!  See how much you influence me, lol!!!  When I got back to my house I wasn't done yet with minutes so I wogged around my block one more time.  Did not do the whole block, just down to the next corner.  I was trying to see if my heart rate went up, boy did it, lol.

I've had TWO Fiber One Bars today, lol, we'll see what tomorrow brings.   The coffee usually sets things in motion nicely...hahah!  I have to get "that" out of the way before I can go walk.

Have you seen that new movie called "Constipation"?   NO?  It's not out yet.

I completed my early morning workout with handweights while I walked for 32 minutes (310 cals) and I had a Fiber One bar and Orange for breakfast.  Carlyn, I was going to mention to you about the FIber One bars because they are really good and have 9 grams of fiber and only 140 cals.  I really like them.  I got on the scale today and was dissapointed to see that it has not moved, but I've seen this before then all of the sudden, whhooooosh, down 3 lbs, so I'm hangin' in there for that!   I'm just getting started, my body is probably revolting a bit.

I LOVE THE EARLY MORNING WALKS!  It was time to just make things happen, I could not avoid the workouts anymore.  I'm developing more routine and consistency in my life even this week.  Like in the morning, I already have my coffee pot on a timer, so that is done.  My workout clothes are near my bed in the morning so I put those on right away, even the shoes.  Go downstairs, let Sparky in, give him Alpo, have a cup of coffee, sit on the computer to wake up, stretch for 2 minutes, then OUT THE DOOR.  At night, I have been more consistent about cleaning up after myself, emptying the dishwasher, wiping down the counter and making use of each trip I take up or down the stairs to bring something up or bring something down.  It's too early to say I am becoming a "machine" but let's just say that I have found a spoke and a gear and a chain.

Keep going, keep keep Go-ING!!  Or Swim little Dory, SWIMMMMM!!!!!

Oh, and I have a confession to make....I went to the supermarket today to buy cat litter and to get some surimi, which was on sale for 1.50 per 8 ounce package of Crab or Lobster style surimi.  I decided that I could allow myself to buy some because I took one to work the other day and ate it with steamed broccoli and for 200 calories for the whole 8 ouces it was quite good and worked like a charm because all I had to do was take the package to work.  I have to eat protein/meat or I can't handle it, so this was a safe choice for future eats.  ANYWAY, I'm at the store and I bought 10 packages of this Lobster style surimi chunk and I notice that the chicken thighs are now marked down 30%.  THIRTY PERCENT and they were already on sale, so a package of four chicken thighs was roughly about $2 a package and I could not help myself and started envisioning (skinless, lowfat version) Chicken and Mushrooms or Chicken Cacciatore or Chicken Coq au Vin....Chicken Marsala, Chicken Piccata.  And I ended up buying 4 packages....

I just felt the need to confess.... Janay knows the story, I already have a freezer FULL of meat and I had comitted to eating my way through it before I started buying any more.

Today I did GREAT on eating though.  When I joined back up I had decided to target 1850 calories but I have not been eating that much, in fact I have not been eating the full amount of calories that I alloted for breakfast so that's good.  There will be days when I have 400 or 450, I'm sure, but right now I have been eating a fiber one bar 140 cals and an orange 100.  and half and half 160, I consider that my mid morning snack, lol.

article1, we WELCOME your bad self to this group!!Cool

Can you tell us more about you?  I can see from your profile that you just joined today, that is kinda funny, because I joined exactly one year ago today.  I was doing well and then completely fell off the wagon as soon as I lost 15 lbs and opened up my mouth about it and didn't get the affirmation I was EXPECTING!!! Waaaaaaaah!!  So anyway, in December I poked my head back in here and looked up some old buddies and I was amazed when I saw that some of them had lost 25-50 lbs and they had joined the same time as ME.....more Waaaaaaaaaaaaaah!  So after I quite feeling sorry for myself, I came back, contacted a few good trusty CC buds like Janay101 and now I'm BACK!!  And happy about that.  I will add you as a friend/buddy.

I love the shiratake noodles too.   If you close your eyes and think of Fettucine alfredo when you put them in your mouth, they actually taste like it!!  I sprinkle parmesan on them or use pesto sauce or low sugar spaghetti sauce and turkey meatballs.  Love them.

Yes, rinse well first!!  You can just microwave them too, no need to boil them.

The weight loss oatmeal is a marketing ploy, I agree.  I buy the generic brand at Long's Drug store, its like a buck for a box of 6 packets.  I doctor it up with nuts and frozen blueberries while I'm microwaving it.

I'm not doing so great on my water intake but I'm not stressing about it.  I am drinking one on the way into work and even had one on the drive home.  I slammed one bottle in the morning before I went for a walk and I tend to leave these halvsie (half finished) bottles laying around the house and I'll drink those when I come across them since I'm the only one in the house I know who's lips have been on them and that there's no kerosene or chemical in the bottle :)  And then last night I did have two big cups of hot tea and tea at work so I'm about 60 oz at most.  If I can squeeze in two more bottles, that would be great, i'll have to work on that.

I wanted to ask you ladies what kind of scale you use?  I have this older one that I bought about 18 years ago and it actually does weigh me consistently 4 lbs less than the doctor's office so I haven't worried about it too much since it is so consistently inaccurate.  Its funny though because I find myself squinting in the morning to actually see the number on the scale.  I'm thinkin I would like to get areally good digital, but afraid I'll get a lemon.  Suggestions?

Janay101, I did not intend to steal your Swimming Dory as my mantra!  In my head for years and years even since I was 16 on the cross country team in high school running for miles, I would have this little cadence in my head like the jogging Marines staying in formation "Keep, keep...keep on....Go-ING! Keep keep keep on...keep on gooooo ing!!!  You'd have to be inside my head, goofy I know.  So Janay101 has her little blue swimming Dory fish and I have my Marines marching to a cadence... hahah.  Okay carlyn, what makes you keep going?

Hey ladies!!!!  I been gettin my bad self out the door two days in a row now in the early morning hours to walk.  I did great on  water yesterday too.  I just wish all this wasn't going to take as long as I know it is going to take, I have very little patience.  I've been telling my self to "keep swimming" and have been revisiting the goals that I wrote in my journal the other day.  I have to keep fresh.

I was ravenously hungry and went to the supermarket and got a slab of ribs and some chow mein and it was really good so the next night I went back to the same supermarket and go the same ribs and chow mein but also happened to get the same check-out clerk who commented that I had that for dinner the night before.  I guess the look on my face told her she should just mind her own business but I was really mortified.

Another time, I was with a work group at a restaurant for lunch and I love to order breakfast for lunch and I had just asked the cute waiter dude if breakfast was still being served and I was totally expecting him to say "no" but he went on to say that breakfast was served til 2PM and since I thought he was about to say no, I said sweetly and flirtily "Not even for me?" and just looks at me like "you dummy I just said we served til 2PM"  So my co-workers gave me a really hard time about that for about a year.  Every time we were in a meeting and I would ask about something and the answer was "NO" my joker coworker would go "Not even for her?"  lol everyone got a big kick out of that one.  Even me, because I do have a sense of humor Cool

Hey ladies!  My workout was Ahhhhh-SOME!!  I donned my Heart Rate Monitor that I picked up last summer but never got into useing.  I find that the calorie guide on CC is not quite as accurate and tends to over estimate calories burned, so that is why I got it.  I walked my normal bike trail route for 44 minutes and then when I got hom I decided to finish out a 50 minute workout with another 6 minutes on the elliptical and I was SO HAPPY to read that I burned a total of 462 calories!!  YAY ME!!

Another revelation I had was when I measured all the half and half (full fat) in my coffee.  I really love coffee and real cream so I have decided to leave it alone for now because it is my Life's SImple Pleasure at the moment.  Anyway, I measure it out and I take big cups of coffee so it takes big blurbs of cream and when all was said and done I used 1/2 cup of half and half for a whopping 160 calories.  I decided that the cream would be my morning "snack" of which I have alotted 150 calories per day for this one.   I had a Fiber One Bar and an Orange for breaky, so that was fewer than the alotted 400 cals I planned for breakfast, so I'm good.  I have to think about all this stuff hard, because I was all about mindless eating before.  Once I get into a routine, it should be much easier.

Weight Loss Keeping secrets... Jan 04 2009

I agree with tasha...  I had a boyfriend back when I weighed about 140 and over the course of the relatinship, gained about 40 lbs and it really really bothered him.  I was really crushed by many of his comments and I can remember one day when he told me my weight bothered him so much, he wanted me to move out.  I can still recall this clearly and it was about 14 years ago.  It still hurts a lot, even though he is long gone from my life.  He once also told me (when I was around 140) that "He would still love me even if I was 300 lbs.  We would not be together, but....I'd still love you"  Yeah right.  now that I am 267 lbs, for some reason this conversation pops into my head now and again.

So, the question I pose to you...are you secure in your self to withstand determining whether he really loves you and is supportive or whether your true stats will bother him so much he might not be deep enough of a person to accept you as you are?  I think telling him the truth about your former stats will set you free.

By the way, your 60 lb weight loss is AMAZING.

My friend Patti cremated her Rottweiller and she keeps him in an urn.  She also looked into these little lockets that are specifically made to store the ashes of loved ones on a chain around your neck on on a bracelet, etc.  Sorry for your loss...that sucks.  I buried my 17 year old cat Libby at the last house I lived in and I loved that cat SO MUCH, the worse part about leaving the house was leaving the cat buried in the yard...

So what will our goals be?  Since I'm starting all over again, I'm open.   Did you want to make personal goals or ones that we can compete with each other?  I was looking at Spring Breaky time frame myself because I might be going to Australia for a wedding.

So for me, the basics will be important:  Exercise, staying within calorie range (1600-1800 for me) and I guess I can incorporate water consumption too, it makes sense!

I've started today, MAN was I faced with choices choices choices.  I had breakfast and started making an scramble but decided to use two egg whites and two whole eggs (I know it is still too much, shhhhhh) but I normally would have had 4 whole eggs.  Only 1 tortilla, not two and I used nonstick spray instead of a tablespoon of butter.  So I figured I cut back on about 320 calories that normally would have been in my breakfast.

Okay, I ADMIT I went to the grocery store today.....I needed toilet paper this time, but you know how it goes...  I spent nearly 15  minutes in the meat section and even picked up another leg of lamb because it was marked down....but then I PUT IT BACK!!! YAY ME!!!   I did the same thing with chicken thighs ($1.24 a lb!!) and Foster Farms Turkey Meatballs (BOGO!!).  I did not buy any meat!!  I did buy 8 more oranges though...they seem to really nip the hunger cravings.  And a butternut squash and two boxes of low calorie kettle corn and some fat free chili con carne.  NO MEAT!!!

And I walked for 25 minutes today.  Had to just go out the door, not think too much about it.

MY REWARDS?  If I lose 18.5, I will treat myself to a full body massage.  If I surpass the 18.5, I will also get a Facial at the same time...woo hoo!!

Yeah, I have an uncle that would come over and first thing out of his mouth was what a big butt I had (I was 16) and later on as an adult, he would come over and say "I keep forgetting how BIG you are".  My sister used to say mean things to me as a teen about the cellulite on the back of my legs and how "gross" it was and also that she had overheard above Uncle make above comment and that "its true, you know", etc..

My Mom has taken to making  backhanded comments that are somewhat disguised as encouragement.  The other day she mentioned that she saw a jacket in my closet with tags on it and she was wondering if she could have it.  She tried it on but it was too big for her.  I don't know why she thought it would fit her anyway.  So making the assumption that it did NOT fit me, she says "Well, you know give it time, it will fit you one of these days".  Oh man, did I ask for this?

And then there is family friend Inez. about 90 years old.  I was visiting her in her home and she offered me some candy and I declined and she volunteers "Yeah, your Mamma says you're getting so big she doesn't know what to do about you but she can't say anything to you".  Now how am I supposed to react to that?  I can forgive a 90 year old for the comment but not for Mom smack talking behind my back.

I have some very good friends that had a couple from out of the country staying with them for 6 months.  There was no extra bedroom, so the visiting couple stayed on a matress right in the living room.  The visiting couple did not chip in for rent, RARELY bought food and were stingy with it when they did.  When dining out, ordered top shelf drinks and the big dinners but insisted that the bill be split evenly.  They borrowed my friend's cars and returned them empty of fuel.  These were really good friends of mine so I spent quite a bit of time with the visiting couple as well.  There were a few times that I got stiffed as well and I really HATE having to ask for money or for someone to pay their fair share.   It was all so stressful for everyone.

The visiting couple finally left last Sunday, it was such a relief.  I feel for you!!

Hey CD, I'm here for you Girl!!!  I had this grand idea while back on how to cut down on alcohol by making Hot Toddies (Hot water, Brandy, lemon and honey).  You have to sip them slow because they are hot and they make you sleepy so instead of slamming 5-6 Scotch and Diet Sodas, this would natually limit my intake.....  It didn't really work that well because I got bored with the sipping, and instead of honey I put splenda in and put too much so it didn't taste all that good either.  It was worth a try.

I'll join you in a Vokda Diet 7 up.
