I had a real hard time eating the natural PB as well. The taste was just bland and texture didn't feel right. I just went back to the healthiest PB that still tasted good. I limit myself to how much I eat, which is easier then forcing the natural stuff down. |

Are you looking for just diet or exercise as well? It will be hard with just diet, well it will be hard either way but harder with just diet. Here is a website that shows women that have lost a lot of weight, they usually say what they did to accomplish it. Scroll through the list, there are hundreds. http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/trans_f.htm Make sure your husband wants to change his eating habits as well. It will be extra hard if he isn't willing to change his lifestyle. |

The extra food would hold extra water. So it sounds like you were really only 3-4 lbs over what your normal weight is at night. The extra food and water could account for that. How many lbs of food do you think you ate? Taking a week to pass through your system sounds like a while, are you getting enough fiber and exercise? |

Well 1600 calories a day for your body type might be a bit high unless you want to build some muscle as well as lose fat (kinda sounds like what you want). 1300 plus cardio would be a good point to just lose weight like the person at the gym said. It depends on your goal. If you want to tone up as well as lose fat then make sure you eat the right foods and not just any foods that add up to 1300 or 1600 calories. Try to make it a 60/30/10 ratio between protein/carbs/fat. Also, don't include simple carbs which is basically anything with sugar in it. Complex carbs such as whole wheat bread (not enriched), sweet potatoes, or brown rice are excellent. You should also try to eat your daily calories in 5-6 meals or snacks a day rather then typical 3 a day most people do. 5-6 meals keeps your metabolism going at the same rate the whole time rather then starting and stopping. Alcohol is included in the simple carbs above, if you have to drink it try to limit yourself to a maximum of 2 drinks. Red wine is one of the better alcoholic drinks if you have the choice. Exercising before hand is a good way to deplete your muscles of sugar so the alcohol is less likely to convert directly to fat. Here is a website that is excellent for motivation as well as direction for nutrition and exercise. http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/trans_f.htm They are people who have transformed their bodies using diet and exercise. |

Well you shouldn't compare your morning weight to your night weight. Water retention is a huge factor when you do that. How much water did you drink today or liquids in general? The more food you eat the more salt you eat as well, that just makes water retention higher. If you do not normally drink 3-5 liters of water a day then you will always hold excess water in your body, and even more after big meals. |

Well first of all how tall are you? From your pictures it doesnt look like 20 lbs would hurt you all that much. 120 is probably underweight anyway. Your body might just be balancing out since I am assuming your 20 years old now based on your username. Do you notice yourself gaining fat or just weighing more? There is a difference. |

You can't really say it didn't hinder your weight loss at all because you don't know how much weight you would have lost if you didn't drink it. As far as Diet Coke goes, how could ingesting a manmade chemical be better for you then having natural sugar? At least your body knows what to do with sugar, it has no idea what to make of artificial sweeteners. If the article helps people cut out soda, even diet soda, from their diets, it is a good thing. Eat an apple or orange at lunch and skip the soda. You will feel better afterward. |

It isn't really possible to lose fat is specific areas. Your body has certain spots it puts fat and its different on everyone. Yours might just be the stomach. If you think your stomach is getting bigger then you are probably just gaining weight, no offense meant. If you want to deflate your stomach then your going to have to diet and exercise. You might be surprised how doing crunches will tighten up your midsection. Exercise wont make you look fatter, no matter how much you do. |

High calorie days are usually carb loading days. Basically it is a way to restore sugar levels in your muscles so they have something to use when your working out. After eating a low carb/high protein diet your muscles wont have the sugars they need to keep going. This makes you feel tired and sluggish even in the gym. Here is a link that tells you what carb loading is and does. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/carb-loading /HQ00385 You can google it to find out more. The calorie counter does a good job of finding your base metabolic rate so you can plan a diet to lose weight. If the CC says you should try to eat 1800 calories for a realistic deficit every day then try to plan your six meals around 300 calories each. On carb loading days, say saturday night, you can enjoy one of your favorite meals at a restaurant to bring your calories to 2500 or a little higher. Just make sure you keep doing your cardio and weight training during the following week. As far as balanced meals go, just incorporate a lean protein source, i.e. chicken breast, and some green vegitables. It doesn't have to be big and eating just protein and veggies keeps the calorie count down. Taking a multi-vitamin everyday is essential as well. As far as small healthy meals that are around 300 calories. I really reccomend a protein shake with milk or water and that is usually around 300 calories, maybe a bit more. This gives you high protein surce with low carbs and some fat. Another option is 2-3 tbsp of natural peanut butter and an apple. That is between 200-300 calories. 1 serving of peanuts is close to 300 as well. Look at the glycemic index to find foods with low ratings to give you some more suggestions of good foods to eat. www.mendosa.com/gi.htm It is ideal to try and get 6 days of cardio in per week, 20-30 minutes a day. Easier said than done of course, but worth it in the end. As far as duration of cardio, one suggestion is to use 3 different machines in the gym bike, treadmill, and elliptical for 10 minutes each. This breaks of the tediousness while giving you a break every 10 minutes. HIIT is a good way to excercise as well. Try to work up to 30 minutes of HIIT at least 3-5 days a week if you can. |

The people who eat 4-5000 calories a day are usually fitness nuts or athletes. You might be amazed at how hungry you feel after doing an hour of intense cardio. Thats even after you a 1000 calorie meal. You need those extra calories when your burning them as fast as you eat them. Are you exercising along with your diet? I have noticed that adding a high calorie day (mostly carbs) gives me more energy during my workouts for the week. That way I workout harder and burn those extra calories two or three times over. |

I think what your talking about is called carb loading. If you have been limiting your carb intake and then use 1-3 days of eating carbs before you exercise it can increase endurance and calorie burning. Many athletes and bodybuilders do this to lose more fat overall. Here are some links to research about it. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/carb-loading /HQ00385 http://www.bodyandfitness.com/Information/Fit ness/carb1.htm http://www.active.com/story.cfm?STORY_ID=1299 8&CHECKSSO=0

I would agree with replacing the nutrigrain bars with something else. They are not as healthy as they seem. Try a small bag of carrots, hard boiled egg, apple, string cheese (although high in sodium), or bag of nuts. There are lots of things to spice up the diet a little. |

Are you eating most of your calories in 3 meals or less? That could be the problem. Eating 6 small meals in a day might make you feel better while keeping your metabolism high. What you eating could also be the reason your feeling full. Some foods make you feel fuller than others. |

First I would say diet alone is not enough to achieve your ideal weight. You will never lower your bodyfat to the point you want with just diet. Exercise is more important than just cutting calories. Doing both just insures you lose weight faster. With just dieting most of that weight you lose is muscle. It takes 600 calories to burn a pound of muscle and 3500 to burn a pound of fat. So when you first go on a diet and lose 3-4 pounds a week for awhile, you are losing more muscle than fat. This is bad because the more muscle you have the more calories you burn and this is just a downward spiral. When your thinking you want to lose weight you have to ask yourself why you want the weight off? Do you just want the weight off to look good in a swimsuit or because there is a wedding coming up? Or do you want to lose weight to be healthier? Those are two different goals and one will keep the weight off while the other will more than likely put it back on. I will let you decide which one does which. Another question is do you live to eat or eat to live? I figure I spend 3 hours or so a day eating while I spend the other 21 doing other things. Before losing weight I enjoyed 3 hours a day and was miserable the other 21. Now I am enjoying the 21 hours a day and only slightly enjoying the other 3. As far as diets go, which is best is debatable but I would recommend one which puts your body into a state of ketosis. You can search google for the meaning of ketosis or ketogenic diet. Here is the link to the wikipedia definition and bodybuilding.com article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ketosis http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/keto.htm By the way bodybuilding.com is a great site to learn about a healthy lifestyle (its not just for men who want to bulk up). You will find plenty of women on there who talk about good exercise regimens and diets. This ketogenic diet is mainly a low carb and high protein/fat diet. This diet can be dangerous if your diabetic so consult a physician if you are. I find it is easier to stay away from certain foods rather than limit myself to certain foods. There are basically 7 foods you cannot eat (during the first 30 days generally) and those are: Bread (wheat products), Potatoes, Sugar (including anything with sugar added i.e. soda), bananas, yogurt, pasta, and rice. This isn't a long list but it includes 50% of the American diet. It is hard but it is also worth it. Rice and pasta are not as bad as the others. As far as excercise, if you have hit a plateau then I would suggest mixing things up with your cardio or adding weight training if you don't already do it. Remember muscle burns more calories. If you gain weight from weight training you might be surprised at the inches you will lose around your waist and thighs. Another option is HIIT workouts. That is High Intensity Interval Training. It is the reason soccer players seem so fit. It is basically walking for a minute and sprinting for a minute. This keeps your body guessing and burns more fat overall. Here is a few articles to read over if your curious. http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/bbinfo.php?pa ge=HIIT Hope this helps, it is a little long but it has worked for me. |
