Yes, I did. No BCP's, no hormones. I suggest that you find balance in your calorie intake, divide your intake by 5-6 "food adventures" - say 3000 calories into five times a day of 600 calories or six times a day at 500, and so on. Food is fuel, so once you are comfortable physically getting your calories, you totally can work out. Weights - go nuts but beware, if you aren't eating to lift, you're body will scream at you. As for cardio - loooooooow intensity. I'm a yoga teacher. It helped me to get over ED. It's slow and its about shutting your mind up so that you can really be present within your body. You can't do that running, I've tried. Your body is in flight or fight mode right now. You have to let it know that everything will be okay. Your body will thank you. |

I was 150 in 05/2006 and 104 in 05/2007 - which was my lowest at 5'8". I think, had I not been on BCP's my periods would have stopped somewhere around May, 07, although probably before. Got it back March 2008, it was the happiest I ever was to see that in my life :) |

I had ammenorrhea for 5 months after I stopped birth control pills, prior to that I was at 15% body fat for about a good year, so had it not been for the pills - maybe my period (har har) of no periods would have been longer. I will tell you that even though you feel so great, strong and such - there is damage being done! Very bad, horrible damage. Your bones are SCREAMING at you. It has taken me over 1 solid year of eating right, GAINING WEIGHT, and lifting weights (with a healthy amount of cardio) for me to stop feeling like s***. I would have headaches when I woke up, fall asleep at 7 pm, my bones and joints would crunch and pop, and I was a total mean witch for about - a year. I literally thought i was going insane. But it got better. Today I'm struggling with infertility, which I can tell you firsthand is horrible. Having suffered a miscarriage without explanation I can't help but think that I helped to cause it by years of not eating properly, abusing myself and just keeping that damn scale under 120#'s - at 5'8". So stupid, I know now. I'm sorry to be a toughy about it, but eat well and eat often. You shouldn't feel bad about 2500-3000 calories for now, you need them. Do it smart though. Spread it out, your body is adaptable and can totally adjust to a new feeding regimine. And try weights, nothing beats it! Good luck! Your future is in your hands, no one elses. |

| Pregnancy & Parenting | What are YOU craving? | Nov 13 2008 11:06 (UTC) |

Oooooooooooooo - I'm 8 weeks so I'm not sure if these are cravings or not (first pregnancy) but I LOVE chocolate PB ripple ice cream, KFC tater wedges (yes, I said tater), bananas, homemade turkey burgers on wheat bun, HEC sammys (ham, egg, cheese). I know you didn't ask but I can't stand these guys anymore: cereal, salads (TG for V8), anything with garlic. I am recovering from an ED, so I've always been weird about my food. Can you let me know if it's normal to have food cravings/aversions this early? I'm lovin it though ;) |

Hi! I'm 26 5'8" and 135#'s. I am looking for account-abil-a-buddies (sorry, South Park reference). Let me explain . . . I have lost from 176 in November of 2005. I am a certified yoga instructor and have completely changed my life to lose the weight and keep it off. I, being human, have bad days - scratch that, I have AWFUL days but it helps me to be there for others. I've learned this about myself (also why I chose to be a teacher from a totally non-related field). In my quest for weight loss I've tried just about everything but my best time spent has been with a nutritionist in Manhattan for about 8 months and yoga which helped me immensely! So I'm here if anyone wants a friend. :-) |

5'8" 135 now. Was down to 104 - GROSS! I am getting used to it and firming up 135. 125 was too small, 133 was more comfortable but my body likes 135. For what it's worth . . . |

Yepper but if you were at it before it won't take long! I was doing the Willy-B (Williamsburg Bridge in Brooklyn, NY) without breaking a sweat just back in Nov. I took a spinning class last Tuesday - OMG! After the pain wore off it was nice to know that I had conditioned my body into great shape and I will be there again shortly! Happy biking! |

You're right. I trust him implicitly, he is my everything. Letting go of the control is hard but keeping it is exhausting. It's funny, he loves to see me eat - I used to yell at him about watching me or even glancing. But now it's like I don't really care as much. It's cute, I like to see him smile. I guess that's what it's all about . . . |

I have IBS too and tofu turns me into a Macy's float. I literally distend about three inches in my belly when I eat it. It (IBS) really limits my foods because I'm vegetarian too - also due to IBS. I eat alot of peanut butter :) You can try small amounts just *don't* order the bean curd and broccoli from asian takeaway - it's alot of tofu and I was doubled over for three days when I made that culinary decision. Wishing you comfort! |

| Fitness | Unsure of what hip muscle I pulled! | Mar 27 2008 12:36 (UTC) |

Hi! I'm a yoga teacher. It sounds like your hip flexor, try dropped knee crescent lunges. From plank or pushup position bring the leg forward for a lunge position - knee over ankle. Drop the back "long" leg's knee to the floor, untuck the toes (barefoot is best). Balance yourself here with fingertips on the floor. Walk your hands to the top of the thigh of the forward leg. Inhale completely. As you exhale heavy through the knee, the knee CAN come forward of the ankle in this stretch. Do on both sides (gotta stay even). Over time you may be able to stay lifted on the rear leg (not dropping the knee, untucking the toes). Hope this helps! |

| Health & Support | Eating in front of people... | Mar 26 2008 16:01 (UTC) |
24 |
I see that alot of people feel defensive about their healthy lifestyle and choices around others. I have found - in trying to recover from my ED (which eating in front of/with others is still a *huge* obstacle) that I ignore the comments, completely. People generally don't keep talking about food when their (silly) comments are blatantly ignored. Maybe they'll take a minute to reflect on why they are being ignored, maybe not. I've also stopped being a food diva. Let me explain my stance - it's not that their food choices are bad, they just aren't yours - isn't it great to choose? |

We are the same height and weight. You are fine, buy new clothes. I am also ED. I am recovering and trying to get pregnant - I have gained from 124 in 3 months and about a month ago I've lost it in a week during a relapse. Balance is so key, but so hard. I'm here if you want to talk. Blessings |

Would taking a break like this disrupt activity levels? I.e. - would I have to change my burn meter to Sedentary for a lull week or keep it at a higher level? I am active but trying to get pregnant; I am cutting back to about 75% of my usual load. |

| Maintaining | New to maintaining - how to get back down 3#'s? | Feb 25 2008 18:56 (UTC) |
2 |
You're so right! I tracked this weekend and it's gone. I really didn't obsess, I even had a few treats, but not in addition to my maintenance calories (which may have got me where I was in the first place . . . ) One question though - as a newbie maintainer - I now weigh the same as I did when I entered maintenance now but I've been strength training. Today I noticed that these pants (wearing them now) barely fit when they used to be a bit loose. Any ideas? Again, I've had a few treats but I've kept my schedule of working out and being overall "good" about my food. Soy ice cream sundae on Saturday and some of Dad's M&M's yesterday were just screaming my name! Chocolate, you devil you! |

What an inspiration! You are doing great and on track. Quieting those voices every single day until you can just sigh them out, on your breath, never to return. I too am celebrating every day that I'm within 300 of my maintenance. My inclination is be under (vs. over) but I am really doing well, if I say so m'self! Up from 104 to 130 (5'8"). It's taken some time, but it's worth it and I am feeling more and more confident that I can maintain everyday. My voices are still here, they never take a break but I can drown them out with my positive progress. You are supposed to be celebrating this, not harming or punishing yourself. You have beaten death, in essence. I like to have a treat, every once in a while - out in public to reward myself. I actually *enjoy* this new, healthier ritual that allows me to include my husband, family and friends. I talk about my disorder and how I've beaten it. I am celebrating me, and my victory over eating disorders. |

| Maintaining | Seriously - calories required to maintain question | Feb 16 2008 20:07 (UTC) |

I guess you both are right - thank you for the advice!! I actually lost 50#'s over 18 months and decided to make fitness my career, I am a fitness instructor (newb) and I have 8 sessions per week - which equals at least 16 hours (practice and then real class). Since I have just found my comfortable maintenance weight, after being too light and too heavy, I was not quite sure what to eat to maintain. I'll give this a whirl for a month. I'm vegan too, so I eat CONSTANTLY! Thanks again! |

OMG! I took my last pill 0209, it's 0211 and nothing yet - except all the horrendous pre-period stuff from before I lost it. It's like the symptoms are on steroids though. I gained 2#'s since 0209, which totally sucks but I did split dessert two nights in a row . . . That and I have been driving my husband and myself insane with emotions, I feel like I'm 14 or something. Today, ah, today - I am going from being doubled over in gut wrenching pain (stomach is boiling lava and getting crampy "waves" like nausea) to functional but not comfortable - at all. I can't believe I'm saying this but getting my period would be the best thing right now. The wait continues . . . |

| Weight Loss | Why do I do this???? | Jan 28 2008 02:16 (UTC) |

I strongly suggest (and be careful of anyone who ever starts like this . . . ) that you stop beating yourself up. You did nothing bad, wrong or detrimental to your diet. You are wonderful and beautiful! You WILL NOT GAIN WEIGHT because of today. You will not gain weight because of tomorrow, or next Thursday. You will gain weight if you take in 3500 more calories than you burn. Your panini was, at most, 900 calories with the toppings you mentioned. Unless it was deep fried. (high average from online nutrition guides) You ran 30 minutes. You burned at least 200 calories - this doesn't take into account the calories that you burned from raising your metabolic rate BY running. These are the calories outside burned after the run. Negligible but I find them comforting when I have a day like yours (er, this weekend). Not that you asked but 50#'s lost (grrrr, 48 after this weekend) and maintaining since July. I have actually been under calories all weekend but at the cost of very poor nutrition (which, I've found, is more important to me than calories). Good luck! You are awesome! |

I do this too. I totally beat myself up if I don't burn approx. (cause who really knows, really) 800 calories a day. I'm solid muscle and weigh 127# at 5'8" - I set my self at "sedentary" here and undergauge my exercise by at least 10% (knowingly - no denial here!) I am recovering from anorexia and have graduated into binging on healthy food and then doing my almost daily workout. My knees hurt, like bad. I can't keep doing this. My suggestion for maintenance is 2100 calories, my burn meter with exercise is 2800 (give or take) on most days - I aim for about 1800 gross calories, just to be safe (beat myself up at 2000, freak at 2200, like today! Yeah!). I am getting my nutrients, per the sites resources but I don't have a period anymore. I can't keep doing this, there simply isn't enough time in the day or energy left in my body. I don't want to damage myself permanently |

I really don't eat any fat. I'm a non soy vegan who avoids nuts like the plague. That kinda makes sense, I did a real "informal" body fat percentage thing online (I know how accurate that just has to be . . .) and it ranges from 14-17% based on my hips, waist, neck and height figures. I'm really athletic for work but I *am trying* to have a baby and not destroy my bones. If it is the fat - or lack of - how do I get it (my period) back without chunking out or getting flabby? While I am trying to have a baby and I will cross that bridge in my career when I get to it, I can't chunk out or get flabby in the interim. Is there a happy medium to have what the body needs for regular ovulation without turning all squishy? I know you don't see many pregnant body builders . . . (I'm not a body builder, just a PT) |

Deadlifts - both and single legged 15 reps per exercise (I do 15 full then 15 isometric) three times a day for 10 days will give you plastic surgery results (each time you do the exercises it's about 10 minutes - it's not so hard that way to break it up throughout the day). I use dumbells, 10#'s each. It REALLY, REALLY worked! PS: Squats and plies help to tone the area around so that you don't look sloppy with a killer booty . . . |

| Fitness | how long did it take you to get your abs? | Jan 20 2008 19:05 (UTC) |
|
I'm big into yoga (teacher) and when I focus on my abs (about every six weeks for 2 weeks) I do alot of core work: boat pose, dancing shiva, side planks, etc. That and I'm a non-soy vegan. As for my diet, ab intent means almost no fats (via nuts, beans, avocadoes, etc.) I know that nutritionally it's probably not recommended but I like to eliminate any sources of fat when I'm focusing on me guts. Then I relax my ab focus for about a month (then I torture my legs - they just LOVE it). This keeps "rock hard abs" 2 weeks away for me at all times and I'm comfortable with that. Hope this helped! Email me if you have any other questions! |

It was 2 weeks for me - about ten 45 minute strength training sessions. But they do disappear if you don't work them at least twice a week (mine do at least). Right now I'm happy for hard and undefined from time to time but I know I can get the little "squares" back within 2 weeks. Female, 5'8" 127# |

Well things were going pretty good with the whole "maintenance" thing until . . . . yes, there is an until . . . a nice stick girl walked into my house yesterday. How petty and awful is that? But I used to be the stick girl . . . I'm a silly child. It sounds so ridiculous written out. That's great for her I guess. |
