Hi everyone - Long lost me again! Spring and summer find me so busy! I have been doing well with my walking and eating less. Sooner or later I'll see a change! I think I will get out the gardening stuff today and get my flowers in. I should plant cactus since I always forget to water them - but I don't! Found out my one horse has arthritis and a bone spur in his hock. My son will not be able to barrel race him anymore. I gave him to a friend of mine who is a vet. She had him xrayed and gave him a shot of steroids. We're hoping he will be able to do light trail riding for her. It was so hard watching my son give him up, 18 yrs old 6'3" and crying like a baby! But, we did what was best for Indy. My daughter got her driver's license last week. She is so willing to run errands! And cleaned the truck, cleaned the car, took them to the car wash etc etc! Anything to drive! Now one more to worry about on the roads. It was nice catching up with everyone. I love to hear about your lives! Carla |

Hi Everyone! Welcome to the new posters! I seem to have less free time to write! I am really stuck in the "I don't feel like exercising" mode lately :( I have gained a few pounds and I just can't seem to find the motivation. Time to take a good look in the mirror and let me scare myself to death!! But, I have been looking forward to walking - the weather is supposed to be in the 70's this weekend. Time for a trot around the block - on foot, not on my horse! And the yard work will count for something. It's just the eating that needs to really go away! Glad to hear gardens and knees are all doing well. Keep up the good work! Carla |

Hi everyone! Betty, I hope your knee holds out but I bet gardening will do you in. My aunt suffered through knee surgery twice and ended up with a replacement - she is sooo much better. Garden fever - ahh, I always forget to water them! So I plant flowers, they look nice for a while, then the weeds take over and the flowers die of thirst! haha But my intentions are always gooD1 Della, it won't be long and you'll be in the garden I can tell. Do you do vegeatbles or flowers or both? Cheryl - Hey, just letting us know how you're doing is great. I myself have had no loss, no exercise, poor eating and I need motivation. You guys help provide that just knowing I can check in and see that you are still at it too! LAter! Carla |

Hellooooo everyone! I'm back! Sometimes, I just get so caught up in life, I forget to sit down and visit! I have not had any real losses - my weight has fluctuated because I kept forgetting to take my thyroid medicine - my TSH was a 12! Yikes! (1-4 is normal) Anyhow, I have started deep water aerobics with my aunts twice a week and still hook up with my sister at least once a week. But I haven't really been watching my calories- time to start again! The weather is finally starting to break. Hoping for spring soon. My yard and pastures are a mess! My parents seem to be dealing with their alcohol troubles somewhat better than I thought. I, too, have cut back dramatically on my drinking. Rather than a few beers on the weekends, I drink diet pop or water. Maybe a beer now and then. Can't preach about drinking to them if I'm just as guilty. The big difference however, is that I don't drink and drive. I think they have learned that lesson the hard way and, thankfully, no one was hurt. It was so nice to catch up on the postings! I hope the Dr visit goes well. Here's to a new week! Carla |

Cheryl - You ROCK! And you are quite the inspiration! I gained 2 pounds in the last week or so. Eating has been HORRIBLE!! Exercise fair. But I'm not quitting! Betty, your kids are so fortunate to have you as a mom! It must be your name - my mom's name is Betty! And although I am woried sick about her, she would give her right arm to halp any one of us - even a stranger! Hang in there! Della - times seem so tough for you right now! Don't give up! I hope the news from your Dr's appointment was helpful in regaining control of your hormones and your life. Do yourself a favor and treat yourself to something - anything that makes you feel good about yourself - a nice chef salad from a restaurant or a pair of ear rings - something NOT clothing related. Focus on your smile and your mood - try to keep it positive. Find something that makes you laugh - the endorphins that are released with laughter lift your mood. As always, friends help too! Have a great week end ladies- we are supposed to heat up to 50 degrees on Saturday! Woohoo! I am so tired of cold and snow!! Carla |

Happy snowstorms to everyone! We, too, were hit with about a foot of snow on Weds. I did have to work but I was off by 12:30. No school, of course. It took a while to shovel a path to the barn. someone plowed a strip up my driveway so I can at least get in and out - Then my dad called. He needed someone to drive him on his bank courier route. So, at 4 pm, I hopped back in my truck and drove him all over NE Ohio. By then, the roads were negotiable and my truck goes anywhere I want it to. Arrived back home by 11 pm. A little background on my dad. He received a DUI in July last year. Didn't really take it seriously, they gave him a slap on the wrist and everything was good. Until Halloween night. He and my mom were at a party, and he got a second DUI. Both he and my mom are alcoholics in my eyes. They are both responsible, hard working, loving people but drink alcohol every day. I don't know if it's the generation or what. But as long as I can remember, they came home from work and started drinking - just like Darren on Bewitched hitting the martini's when he walked in the door. All 5 of us kids have tried to talk to them but they both are in denial. Jim now has no choice - he can NOT drive or he goes to jail for a year. Unfortunately, his job IS driving. My mom drives his normal route with him at 4am everyday - but won't drive in the snow. He is also a substitute driver for other routes. That's what I had to help him with. Have any of you had to deal with alcoholism? It's so frustrating to watch my parents live like this. We all drink socially - occasionally. we have all vowed not to drink in their presence. Then they get mad at us, because "you all think we're alcoholics and we're not" Any suggestions? Thanks for listening. Only a half of a pound this week lost. Only exercised once and eating has been not so good. But, today is a new day to start over!
Have a good weekend all! Carla |

Hi ladies, Well, another week down and 2 more pounds lost - that's 8 total. Slow but steady, hopefully will win the race! I have really changed my eating haits and I have not fallen off the wagon hardly at all. I love the exercise nights with my sister and Sara. I'm off to a seminar in Columbus for the night and tomorrow. Will have to have Won't Power at dinner tonight!! Wish me luck and have a great weekend! |

Hi guys, Cheryl, another 1 and 1/2! That's great. I, too, had an Arby's Chicken cordon bleu sandwich - boy was it good! No fries though. A little evry now and then won't kill us! I am the lab manager in a fertility center, so I tend to run my hormone levels regularly- no menopause for me yet! Just the usual PMS major mood swings! I think my daughter thought I was going postal on Monday! I can't remember where you live Cheryl, but roughing it might not be so bad. My friends call me the Camping Queen because I have tent camping down to a science!! I can cook over an open fire just as well as I do at home on my stove (sometimes better:)) I use a "Drawer system" I bought one of those Rubermaid units that have three large drawers. I have each drawer labelled with it's contents and keep them filled at all times. I also have one large rectangular plastic bin for all my pots and skillets. I never use these items in the house. That way, keeping them stocked is easy. I use an old oven shelf as a grate to place over my fire pit. I keep a large round drink cooler filled with water to wash things with. I have a "camping list" that I keep on my computer and just check it each time I go. Makes it easy. If you ever want some tips on whats easy to cook and stuff, let me know. Have agreat weekend ladies! Carla |

Well, it's Friday. A whopping minus 12 degrees with a wind chill of minus 30! . I did get brave enough to step on the scale. Only lost one pound this week. But that's ok - it's better than gaining! They have postponed the 2 horse shows. But it all works out because now I have to work this weekend. Looking forward to some inside entertainment this weekend - WII, movies, etc. Too cold for anything else! Have a nice weekend ladies. Carla |

Good morning! I postponed working out last night with the girls to tonight. I think I have been overdoing it between exercise, riding, sledding, cleaning the barn, shoveling snow etc etc. I needed to give my muscles one more day to recover! Today is better. It is wicked cold here. By Friday, our high is supposed to be 8 degrees - Yikes! I have 2 horse shows to haul my dayghter to this weekend - I think I need to modify my trailer to keep her horse warm. Hang up a blanket where it's open or something. More exercise!! I haven't weighed in recently - I have been eating too much and am afraid. I will on Friday! But, I agree, diet and weight are not going to control my life either. I enjoy food and socializing too much - I just need to remember EVERYTHING IN MODERATION!! Well, have a great day! Carla |

Hi again! I had a blast riding Toby (my horse - that looks a lot like my icon) in the snow - we got about 15 inches! Then, we went sledding! Another great time! I walked up the giant hill about 6 times -coming down was much easier! We will pull the sleds today with Toby, Indy and Jessica (my other horses). I also made a great recipe from this site - Chicken, asparagus and roasted red peppers- wow, was it good! Looking forward to the leftovers for lunch today:) Cheryl - good job on that 12 miles! And the not so clean plate club! I still find that hard to do - That old waste not want not mentatality! Instead, I really try to put the appropriate size portion on my plate. In a restaurant, however, that's not so easy! There, I ask for a to-go container BEFORE I start eating. That way, I still control the portion. Well, I better get back to work. I am off tomorrow but have a funeral to go to. That makes 3 in the last 2 months (my friend, a 17 yr old boy from my church that had cancer and now another friend's mother)- hope this is the end of them. Have a great day:) Carla |

Hi everyone! We did our second group workout at Nadine's on Thursday - she records it from Fit Tv. He was much faster than what I'm accustomed to! I just figured out the move - legs this way, arms that way and he was already onto the next one! But we laugh and just keep moving! For dinner - simple whole wheat tortillas filled with deli turkey, lettuce, red and green peppers and a little shredded cheese, fat free italian dressing. Good though! She also has a Wii and we played for a while. I agree about the family time spent with the Wii. We had just as much fun as her 5 yr old daughter - what other game uses calories and spans gnerations?? I have lost 4 lbs this week! Yeah! I was able to zip my favorite jeans, albeit, they are still a little snug! But, it's great motivation for next week! :) I agree you should have your thyroid checked. I am a laboratory manager and see so many women who have no idea they are hypothyroid. (I am, and if I skip my medicine, the weight quickly piles on!) I plan to ride my horse today in the snow - we got about 8 inches yesterday and probably another 5 coming today! I want to make a path for tomorrow when I will hook up a round sled and take my niece and some other kids sledding. It's a lot of fun! I think I have more fun than they do! Hope everyone has a "losing" week - which makes us all winners!! Carla

Hi Girls - Della, it's nice to hear from you too! Tonight was our first group work out. I cooked dinner (chicken, broccoli and bowtie pasta from this site's recipes) My sister Nadine and my son's girlfriend came over to work out with my daughter Sara and I(toning) for 30 minutes, ate dinner, (sent some home for Nadine's husband and daughter) and we had lots of fun! Thursday it's Nadine's turn to cook and pick the work out. We only live 2 miles away. I don't think I will get Aubrey to cook - she's only 17! But she and Sara help with the dishes! I am finding that 30 minutes of toning or cardio is all I can handle right now- otherwise it takes my muscles too long to recover. I figure I will increase after a week or 2. Besides, sometimes 30 minutes is all I have. One thing I read on this site is that I have to start putting ME as the priority - I have to stop pushing exercise to the bottom of my to do list- put it on top. I will be grateful when winter is over! NE Ohio is not the best place for walking right now!! I have started parking further from the door of anywhere I go - Simple, but every little bit helps! Nadine also got a Wii for Christmas. I am anxious to try it out!! I really enjoy talking to you guys. You are a great support team!! Carla |

Anytime is the right time, because you can't control your environment, it will change without your consent - sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse. I am a lab manager at a fertility center and believe me, the longer you wait, the harder it is! Not only for getting pregnant, but for maintaining the pregnancy as well. And you always find the money somewhere to support them!! |

Hi Betty - Hi Cheryl! I remember you too! Great job with 25 pounds- even if you slip a little. I hope to do better this year - At least I haven't given up completely! I bought a Pilates DVD yesterday and plan to try it out tomorrow. I rotate my favorite videos - hopefully, this will become one of them. My son's girlfriend and my sister are going to join me a couple nights a week to work out. It's hard finding the time with work, church, 4-H etc etc - but it is time. If I fall off the wagon again, email me and make me come back!! cksk@att.net!! Thanks in advance! Carla |

Good morning Betty! I was an active member of this thread but eventually stopped. I remember you! I want to congratulate you on sticking to this program! I am proud of you! How did you do over the course of the year? I am right back where I started last year and am willing to give it another try this year. My friend died suddenly of a heart attack last month - she was only 43. I really don't want that to happen to me. It has been a real wake up call for all of us. Again, Congrats on your faithfulness! Welcome back Betty! I know I'm looking forward to vacation in March. With 14 of us going, it's sure to be fun! We all get along well and we plan to put all the teenagers in one condo and all the adults in another! I don't know who will be happier! Hey Skinnyolme- I checked up on those MUFA's. According to the diabetic site, they can definately lower your risk for cardio disease by about 15-20%. Most of the other sites reccomended at least one MUFA per meal. The list includes: olives, olive oil, canola oil, grape seed oil, soybean oil, peanuts, peanut butter and seeds - like sunflower or flaxen. I will try to post that 3 day diet plan this week that I use to get me off plateaus. Sorry for the delay. It's good to be back though! And I finally figured out the buddy thing. I'm just not so sure I can keep up with the journaling - this thread is about all I have time for - and I really enjoy it! Carla |

| Good morning all! I sometimes have a hard time getting my calories in the right range - when I'm watching what I eat. When I'm not watching - I think the portion un-control takes over and I exceed my intake. It's so hard to change habits after 40 years. If I didn't have such a voracious appetitte it wouldn't be so bad! But - on a positive note - I was brave enough to step on the scale after a few weeks of poor eating and no exercise. And to my surprise, I lost a pound! I thought for sure I had gained some back. I guess I don't count my usual chores as exercise but I'm sure cleaning stalls uses up calories! Hopefully, it will all get better from here! Carla | |||

| Hello everyone - one lost lamb is returning. I gave up for a while - but I'd like to get back on track. Today is a new day. I'm afraid to weigh in - probably gained some that I just lost last month. But vacation is looming in March - and I'm not getting any younger - in fact, on March 15th, I'll be 45. Time to get busy. I caught up with everyone's posts. You all are amazing - just for sticking to it. I hope you remain a good inluence on me! Carla | |||

| Good morning! Hey Cheryl, has he tried obtaining a "permanent Sub" position? We have those here. In addition to my job as a lab manager, I am a substitute teacher. I can only work limied days but still get called. Our permanent subs are guarenteed to work 120 days out of the 180 days. These subs tend to get hired over new graduates. The pay isn't great and I'm not sure if they get benefits, but it gets their foot in the door. Betty, you are statistically in line for a loss! You can't maintain forever with everything you are doing right! Keep up the good work! I, myself, have fallen off the wagon - but I'm not ready to give up yet. I went bowling Saturday nite and rode my horse on Sunday - pulling kids on sleds - and I am still sore! But I did do my video yesterday - trying to stretch those screaming lower body muscles! I did better on my water too. Not so good on eating |

Good morning all, Ro, you are too funny! Although I don't have an ex, it seems I'm always running into people at the grocery store - just after I've been cleaning the barn or something that makes me look awful! Don't base your opininon of yourself on "society's standards." Healthy, inside and out, mentally and physically, is a much better way to measure yourself. Barb, Perhaps you could completely change your exercise and eating habits. Your body has memory. After 3 weeks of similar habits, it adjusts accordingly. Are you eating 6 small meals a day? That helps keep your metabolism in working gear. Sometimes a day of jump-starting helps - reduce your calorie intake, just for one day, by 200 calories. Try different foods. All calories are not equal! Try a low carb or low fat approach for awhile. Different combinations of foods work in different ways. I use this 3 day guideline every now and then to help me when I've reached a "plateau" in the past. It lists exactly what you should eat for 3 days. Let me know if you want a copy. Instead of the treadmill, try a low impact aerobic video or total body work out video or bicylcoing. Use different muscle groups. That's all I can think of! But don't give up! We're here to support you! Have a great day! Carla |

Hi everyone... Nana - I'm so glad to hear he is ok. I, too, gave my mother a scare at age 12. I fell from a tree over 40 feet high. I landed on my feet in a muddy ditch. This compressed my spine, chipping the corners off 3 vertabrae. I only spent 5 days in the hospital but wore a back brace for 4 months. Luckily I hit that ditch and not the dirt road or I would have been paralyzed. It was a long, slow recovery all summer long, but I made it. And medicine and therapy have come a long way since then. (My mom stuck me in a tub of Epsom Salt and said I'd be fine - it was my aunt that talked her into taking me to the hospital!) I will keep your family in my prayers - and add you to my buddy list now that i know how - thanks Betty Good job Cheryl! I have lost a total of 13 pounds in 2.5 weeks - I am almost back to where I was 2 years ago - 6 more pounds - but hope to surpass that! Anyway, my pants feel a lot better! Have a great, healthy weekend everyone! Carla |

| Good Morning All! Kcran, that's very funny - I hadn't realized what's been going on all these years! Ro, around here, we wear "silkies" that are simialr to underarmour but much cheaper and much slimmer than long johns. You can get them at JC Penney or even Wal Mart. Betty, I have been leaving things on my plate -that is so hard for me! Can you explain the buddy thing to me? What purpose does it serve? I stopped entering things in my journal because I started posting things here - don't have time for both! Can you talk back and forth through your buddy - see each others logs or what? I don't know how to add buddies to my account or become a buddy to someone else! But I really enjoy the girls on this forum. You're all a hoot! Carla | |||

Welcome Koala Red. You will fit right in here. Sometimes personalize replies and sometimes not. It's fun just reading the blurbs. Ro is VERY funny and Betty is very helpful. It's also helpful just knowing you're not alone - and that sometimes, we all have a bad day. But in the words of Scarlet ...Tomorrow is another day! And for all the mistakes I made last week, I still lost 2 pounds. Just think what I can do if I actually exercise! Carla |

| Hello to all and welcome newcomers! I have been really bad this week. I'm afraid of the scale on Tuesday. This is the kind of week that inspired me to change my eating habits. My mother still tells me that I have to learn the word "NO" I work 6:30 am until 1 pm. Then a second job from 2-4:30 pm. I had meetings on Mon, Tues and Thurs nights for 4-H and other committees. I volunteer on Weds nites. Went to look at a horse on Fri nite and 2 more on Saturday. Party last night, worked today and I get to start all over again tomorrow! When am I supposed to plan my meals, cook and eat properly and exercise?? I fall in bed exhausted by 10 pm! I'm frustrated! I haven't had time to post any of my calories for 3 days nor log in here. So you probably thought I quit -but I didn't. And I will do better this week. No meetings - just volunteering and Poker Party with my mom on Thurs. Thanks for listening to me vent! Carla | |||
