| Weight Loss | My friend eat less than her limited calories but she still lose weight!! | Feb 11 2008 15:25 (UTC) |

If she's just standing there SAYING she's losing..she may not be at all..she might just be jealous that you're losing it a healthy way..
don't let her behavior influence your healthy choices. If she is in fact losing weight in an unhealthy way it will catch up and she'll wish she'd taken your advice. |

haha here's a source..how often do pigeons poop? a lot right? so obviously their tracts are nice and clear...how often does someone who consumes a LOT of meat and unhealthy products poop? ( I asked a rather large male I work with-yesterday at the Chinese buffet he had 10 plates of food-mostly meat) He said he's lucky if he goes once or twice a week-so I said...do YOU think in that one or two times you eat all the junk you consumed came out? He said with the amount I eat based off of what comes out..there's no way it all comes out at once so where is it? it doesn't disappear so it's gotta still be inside just waiting for it's turn:) This...is for dogs and cats HOWEVER pages 4 and 5 explain the differences in digestive tracts and things of that nature..it might help to support what disease said earlier about it sitting. I have read it elsewhere also about how scientists are linking (in many cases) the higher occurence of cancers with our larger intake of red meats and processed foods. The amount we eat is too much for our body to fully digest so it continues to sit as it takes a long period of time to digest before being exposed of and because of all the things injected into animals it's now sitting in our systems and causing higher cancer rates. I cannot remember where it was I Read it-I only remember it was in a book. |

| The meat sitting would make sense...I lost quite a bit of weight when I stopped eating meat and then just stayed the same weight...I didn't change eating habits I just cut out meat..I know this is probably way TMI but I've been told by a doctor that it's normal for people to go number2 2-3 times a day....and if you're going once every few days (something holds it up right?)...I mean think about it where's it at? sitting there..those occurences changed considerably when I stopped eating meat...I'm more regular and I didn't up my fiber intake or anything like that...that's just my personal body..but I think stopping the intake of meat was a cleanse for me. to each their own I guess |

there was this phenomenal bagel place near campus when I went to college and they made their own sun dried tomato paste..it was mostly sun dried tomatoes and they added some raspberries to sweeten it up a little..put into a food processor smear that, some fat free cream cheese, red onion, sprouts and some turkey or other lunch meat-BEST sandwich.. |

| if you're a vegan you don't really consume anything you'd have to rid yourself of anyhow...most of the people I know who really like to do the cleanses are meat eaters that are convinced the meat just sits in their gut and doesn't digest fully-that's what most of the infomercials claim anyways. knocking out the alcohol would probably be the best thing you could do...give your liver a break:) | |||

Wow...this is SO us...he's my height when I Have heels on but I'm considerably heavier than him...and I hate it..I've always been bigger than my boyfriends and again..always hated it. My goal when I started this was to lose enough for him to be able to pick me up..not that I'd even let him try now..but I figured if I got small enough I'd feel comfortable with it.
and princesslauren that's SO my secret motivation HAHA so funny you said that!!! |

this is late and and somebody may have posted this but I love those exercise balls...I have a really big one and some small hand weights and i found some great free workout programs online...
also i hold those weights to my chest and do situps I found a great circuit workout online for the gym..but it also gave the same exact workout but one you can do from home and i think the most you had to have was like a chair and some weights (pretty cost efficient since you dont have to replace them!) |

The doctor thing is smart..my mom lets them weigh her while she stands backwards... The number isn't important-it's how your body is performing and how YOU feel...if you feel good and you're healthy and not in any danger-dont worry about it..you should love yourself-regardless of the number. Congrats on your journey..your body thanks you!! :) |

Yeah you're going to die-everyone does..but it's what's in between that counts. You think your parents would take back having you because they knew eventually they wouldn't be around? probably not..it's those things that make your life worthwhile. You should be happy and grateful you have fond memories of your childhood-some people weren't so lucky. Your parents gave you a life to enjoy...and my guess is they probably won't be all that bored once you're all grown up and moved out...it'll give them a chance to grow themselves as people and experience new things now that they've sent you out into the world. You are way too young to be so jaded about life...Don't worry so much about whether your parents were happier then or now..they're adults they can change their own lives..You have your own life to take hold of now...use the tools they gave you and the things they taught you and make something good of yourself-that in itself will make them happier than you could imagine. It's nice you want to help your parents because they gave you so much but they probably don't expect you to do it..If you're able to help them out that's wonderful but they didn't have you so you could take care of them...they probably want you to take care of YOU. Sounds like you're going to seek some professional advice- that's a good idea as long as you remain optimistic about it and don't expect someone else to change your life-that's something you have to do yourself. |

all of the above? I used to have old shoes and I didn't stretch properly ...I've bought new shoes and I make sure I stretch for a while..and i haven't had them since. For the first days I had them, I used ben gay and some other icy hot stuff to help... One stretch I know that helps my shins is to put your feet together and go down as far as you can without lifting your heels...sometimes I'll grab something to help my balance so I can go futher without lifting my heels. |

| Vegetarian | Any New Vegetarians out there?? | Jan 24 2008 18:40 (UTC) |

| There's a TON of non-tofu stuff to eat...Our walmart and target have a freezer section dedicated to a bunch of neat frozen "meat" products like chik'n and this stuff that looks and tastes like steak but it's all veggie protein..I really like smart ground..looks and tastes like ground beef..GREAT for soups chili or sloppy joes! I buy the chik'n nuggets and make mini chik'n parm with it..even my non-vegetarian boyfriend will eat that stuff. Morningstar is a great breakfast brand for like bacon and sausage and it's all vegetarian friendly. | |||

I don't have a problem going out to eat...a lot of places have a veggie plate...and italian restaurants usually will make me a tailored pasta with no sauce and extra veggies. Chili's has a great black bean burger..Buffalo Wild Wings has a boca burger...Red Robin can make any of their burgers with either a boca or a garden burger...
I haven't eaten fish in months but I Recently decided I might incorporate some into my diet because I actually cut out the meat in the first place for health reasons and I'm doing MUCH better.. it's all a personal choice and from what I've read the people who don't eat pork beef or chicken but eat seafood or fish are called pescetarians. the switch was the best choice I could've ever made...good luck with your journey!! |

| I've gained five lbs over night..especially after a dinner of pasta cuz it bloats me..don't freak out..you're fine!! :) Keep trucking along and these days will be fewer and far between..I learned not to eat pasta for dinner anymore and I try to eat as low a sodium meal as I can for dinner because I'll retain water. | |||
| Weight Loss | I am FINALLY seeing the results! Took 3 weeks... | Jan 23 2008 17:29 (UTC) |

My first two to two and a half weeks I lost about 6lbs but in the last week I think i lost a pound..however I lost another inch off my waist..so even if those lbs aren't dropping your body IS changing... There's a trainer at the gym I go to who does my measurements for me every week...He said most people do it every thirty days but I told him I'm all about instant gratification..waiting a week is hard lol
Congrats on the start (and continuation) of your journey..there are times when it lulls out and it seems like..what's the point? but when you slide on those pants that USED to be snug ..and you can take them off without unbuttoning them? THAT's motivation for me!!
PS I have a HUGE problem with Sodium in my diet...I did find something for breakfast that fills me up...it's called Hodgson Mill Oat Bran hot Cereal it has no Cholesterol, Sodium OR Sugar which DOES equal kinda bland BUT I do add fruit and a little honey to it...so it helps!! |

| Weight Loss | EAT your BMR or NET your BMR? EAT 1200 or NET 1200? | Jan 23 2008 15:26 (UTC) |

Not all calories are created equal;) There is a difference from a small compared to large portions...whether it be high or low..the reason you want to space out meals so they're all lower portions is you want to keep your metabolism going..if you drop down to a couple of meals that are high in calories you're not giving a constant flow of fuel to your metabolism...I used to eat once a day...and granted it'd be a LOT of calories..but they'd all be stored as fat BECAUSE I was basically telling my body hey I'm not giving you anything until 6pm tomorrow so it stores it to keep itself going...and that's not good. You eat smaller portions with lower calories...and try to put your higher calorie meals earlier in the day to give your metabolism that extra boost. A calorie is a calorie is a calorie..however, if they're better for you calories like that from veggies as opposed to bad fats like vegetable oil...then it's like a constant stream of good stuff for your body to continue working on. Look at it this way...if you were always getting bad grades in school eventually you'd want to give up right? If you are getting that constant reassurance you're doing well (IE your nourishing your body so you see and feel the healthy changes) it's something that you'll enjoy and it'll get easier to continue doing. All those health magazines give you tips for body health and they're always spewing about portion control...that's what this is. |

| I think what a lot of you are worrying too much over is specifics..this is all relative and in general...CC says don't eat below 1200 calories for women...BMR structures it a little different. Basal metabolic rate (BMR) is the amount of energy expended while at rest in a neutrally temperate environment, in the post-absorptive state (meaning that the digestive system is inactive). The release of energy in this state is sufficient only for the functioning of the vital organs, such as the heart, lungs, brain and the rest of the nervous system, liver, kidneys, sex organs, muscles and skin. Someone posted a link to finding out your BMR earlier in this post....mine was like 1886...so if I'm sedentary I multiply that by 1.2 (this number is also found on that same page someone linked to earlier in this post) I should be eating around 2260 calories to MAINTAIN my weight..meaning I'm eating what my body burns if I'm sedentary...if I'm lightly active I would multiply 1.375 by 1886 so that's around 2600 calories..to MAINTAIN...if you want to LOSE weight you just eat 500 calories less or do something that requires you to burn 500 calories or a combo of both..so over the course of a WEEK I'm decreasing those calories each day by 500 whether extra exercise or a little less calories..so by the end of the week I've decreased it by 3500 calories..there are 3500 calories in a pound...If I wanted to GAIN weight..i would simply add the additional 500 calories into my diet. That's where the whole 500-1000 deficit comes from...subtracting 500 each day adds up to a pound loss and 1000 subtracted each day for a week adds up to two pounds..about the most you should lose in a week for safe healthy weight loss. What people are saying about not dropping below the BMR is cutting too many calories or exercising too much causes your body to store what you eat as fat because you're not giving it enough to constantly run on. this process is JUST a generlization for calories...it's to give you a starting point so you're not dipping too low below the calories your body needs to stay HEALTHY. These numbers of course will change if I lose or gain weight...my BMR won't be that high if I was to lose say..50 lbs. I hope this makes sense...I sometimes talk around circles and end up confusing myself:) |

My aunt had gastic bypass so she can't have big orders now..she asks them if they'll let her order from the kids menu..only once did they say no so she said then I'm leaving..they relented and let her. She also orders from the adult menu but asks for a box right away ..that helped her to eat less even before she had the surgery. For the most part restaurants try to be accomodating...some have pre-prepared stuff so it's hard..but like a lot of Italian restaurants encourage you to create your own dish. |

Thanks!! I'm really trying to monitor what I eat..and since I altered my calories I'm finding I need to branch out and find things I like that are healthier...I became a vegetarian a while back but I recently decided I'd like to add fish every once in a while to help with the protein because some days I don't get enough if I'm not paying attention to my calories. I've been eating enough that I don't get those periods where I feel sick because I haven't eaten in hours and hours so I keep nuts and low sugar oats and stuff like that because they're quick and simple and can hold me over until I'm able to get a fuller meal. So I feel great but I think what I was worried most about it is just because you feel fine doesn't mean you ARE fine.. I'd really like to hit that goal for FL but my TEN YEAR HIGH SCHOOl reunion is in august...if I decide to go I'd really like to look great for that...so we'll see:) |
