| Weight Loss | EWWWW OLIVE GARDENNNNN.... and.... eating alot 2 DAYS IN A ROW | Feb 12 2008 20:19 (UTC) |

I adore Olive Garden. I have to say... if I am going to go there- its a day off the watching what I eat. Because other than taking half my meal home to go- I just dont want to care- its all too good. So if I go which I try to make it a very, very, very occaisonal thing- I might as well enjoy myself. And go right back to what I know I need to do the next day. |

So, Officially getting frustrated.
I was working hard to count the calories for a while and have only lost 5lbs. I gave up logging for a while- was still watching what I ate, but just not obsessing, and I didnt lose anything. Although I have been going to Curves 3 days a week and Zumba on Friday nights. So at least I'm sticking with that. Now my mom suggested Weight Watchers so she gave me the book or whatever... which is nice, but that was just yesterday... I dont know I guess I'll get back to doing both.
On the upside, went to my moms yesterday and tried on the wedding dress- I could fit into it!!! Hallelujah!! The only prblem is I need to lose a few lbs more because I have armpit/over the arm ooze going on (its a strapless dress)...so gotta work on that- anyone have any ideas? |

Joanne- Yea.... I've been trying to cut back... have been having a tough time finding stuff that fills me up and isnt a whole crap-ton of calories. I dont know, trying really hard to keep it lower than that and am religiously going to Curves at least 3x week and Zumba and now possibly Kickboxing too...lol I'm trying. However, a bonus- even though I only have lost between 2-5lbs regularly, I tried on a dress today and it looked better and I have gone in a notch in my belt. So maybe its the fact that I'm strength training and drinking a ton of water that is just maintaining or losing reeeeaaaallly slowly, because I think I notice a difference in my body. Cant be sure, but I think so. Anyway, thanks for the advice.... I'm just finding it difficult to stay full with low calories... Jillsarah- Yes, I totally struggle on the weekends- I like to get the chocolaty drinks too, like hot cocoa with chocolate and peppermint liquor in them, and I really like the fancy shots, so I hear ya.... I just try to make sure that its only one night that I do that. Course, the rest of the weekend- food is the issue. So I have no answers only agreement for that :) |

NO Jessica- You are most certainly not the only one here with insane cravings.... I still havent had a Big Mac and I'm proud of myself.
However, Ok so question, my burn meter says with my delightfully sedentary lifestyle I should burn 2030 calories and should consume 1650 to lose weight. Some days I consume more and some I consume less, I have also started going back to curves 3 times a week and I did Zumba last friday, but so far I've only lost 2 lbs.... Any ideas? |

Hi Lucy,
I know how you feel- I hate the gym. Somthing to check out www.zumba.com Its a kind of latin dance aerobics. It is awesome and fun!!!. You can get a tape for yourself or they have classes you can attend, I checked in the UK and there's at least one in a good portion of the counties. Def. check it out and see if its worth going to a class. I know that for me I need the added motivation of classes, otherwise I wont go. I also joined a Curves, I know they are expanding I wasnt sure if they were over with you yet, but try that out too- its only 30 min 3 times a week and it can be fun. Oh and its just a womens gym, so no guys to make you uncomfortable or judge you. Its not too bad as far as gyms go.
Anyway, def. check it out!!! And I totally hear you about feeling like your missing out, sometimes I get really down because I just want that Big Mac... but ultimately it all turns out ok.
Good Luck!!! (I still have another 15-18lbs to go) |

ok, So I found a somewhat local class and am going to start taking it up.
Anyone have ideas on how to log this into the activity log? All I come up with when I type in latin dance is Praise Dance... And I'm not thinking thats an equivalent...? |

Set: Well, its kind of a story in fact.... my fiance and I adopted a cat from a shelter in the area when she was 2 yrs old.... now she is hmmm going on four this June... But this past May we adopted a pregnant stray. She was the sweetest beautiful gray cat. She had four kittens. We were going to let them stay with us till they were 12 weeks old and then give them away, however, it is much more difficult than we thought to get people to take them (and I'm a REALLY picky mom). So we ended up keeping all of them. We now have 6 cats. The one in my picture was only a few weeks old at the time and his name is Loki. (Mom's name is Sphinx, the two girls are long hair calico and their names are Freja and Artemis (Artie for short), and the other little boy is also black and white but with sleeker fur and a lonnnng tail and his name is Thor) Freja will be moving to live with one of our friends when she gets her own place, and boy will we be sad to see her go. But since its one of our friends who will be in the area, she can always come visit and we can have play dates.... :) as for the other- I dont think we could get rid of them even if we wanted to... In any case, yea your method does sound slightly psychologically warped, lol but hey- whatever works as long as it doesnt develop into something unhealthy.... :) |

Hey again, mlbryan- I know what you mean, it has always been hard for me to cook for just me though, and now with always having to cook for my bf and sometimes we have dinner parties and then caution is almost thrown to the wind.... Set- As for putting things on smaller plates, that goes a little way... I have a big bowl of salad before eating my regular part of my meal and thats on a small plate, but even if I eat the salad and feel almost done, I feel guilty for not eating what I made on my plate... or I feel like if I dont eat it I'll be hungry later and it wont be nearly as good then. Oh and about the whole bf and I cooking separately- HA. My fiance, doesnt cook. He might grill, or boil water if I can convince him to and make salads.... but thats about it. Since we dont have a grill, boiling water doesnt do much for the protein part of a meal and I cant just eat salads for the rest of my life like a rabbit- I think I am out of luck... lol In any case... I made something really good last night and made myself stop... because I only made enough for he and I and if he was still hungry I made him a salad... so that was kinda good. :) Maybe I'm on the way to progress.... course... a big mac is only a short drive away....
anyone else have any ideas on the whole psychological eating thing... and the whole resisting crazy cravings? |

wow!! Alot of women on here!! In regards to the two questions out there: Celebrity body: Drew Barrymore or Kate Hudson or America Ferrara Favorite Excercise: Zumba (but havent found an instructor near me :( ) and kickboxing, but right now I'm a member of Curves.
As a refresher, my name is Jessie, I'm from Fitchburg, MA. Getting married in June and since graduating college I have gained 15-20 lbs. My goal is to get down to the weight I bought the dress at...lol And my ultimate goal is a loss of 50lbs. CW:200-205 GW: (June)180-185 (January 09) 150-145 My issues are well, I am not a huge fan of excercise and completely lack motivation to do it. I'm doing ok except for those random days when I go to a dinner party and my friend is such an amazing cook I have to eat a little bit of each kind of chicken he made...lol And I havent had a big mac in weeks... thats one of my craved foods... But mainly, I find that I love food so much that even after I'm full I dont stop because I love the taste of food so much. I can easily have leftovers after cooking, but its hard for me not to eat everything thats on my plate, whether its because it tastes good or I was just trained to clean my plate- I dont know, but MAN is that a seriously tough one for me.
Anyone have any ideas to combat that whole psychological eating???? |

| Weight Loss | The subway diet...Anybody ever try it? | Jan 22 2008 20:08 (UTC) |

I love Subway!!
However, I realized that the sub that I had been eating for a long time ended up being over 825 calories. That was because of the bread, cheese, and mayo. Now I get 6" turkey subs on wheat, skip the cheese and mayo, get lettuce, tomato, and extra cucumbers as well as spicy brown mustard and the sweet onion sauce (which I could swear has crack in it, because I'm so addicted). Those are only about 330 calories. I think I ate 4 or 5 of those last week alone... But thats just me.... |

Are you hungrier at night because you dont eat during the day? I know you mentioned trying to make up for the caloric intake- It might be that you are eating too much at night which could be part of the not hungry in the morning thing. Try just eating a little bit, a banana, a bowl of cereal, an orange, toast- anything small in the morning eventually you will get into the routine and start wanting to eat breakfast. As for during school, I never had that problem, but I guess I can understand, I get the paranoid when walking through halls thing. I might recommend just some fruit or some crackers like triscuits or something, that way at least youre eating something. Hopefully, you can actually start eating lunch, even though your friends dont- but it sounds like two out of the four do... so maybe it would even be better for you to eat something with them.... Once you do get into a routine your metabolism speeds up and you are actually hungrier because your body is burning stuff faster. Definitely try to eat a little every 2 to 3 hours (although i know in school thats really hard to do). Good luck!
Oh and PS I get annoyed with the tiny girls complaining about their weight as well- I want to yell at them and tell them that that 'roll' they are grabbing to somehow show the world they have 'fat' is actually SKIN!!! you kinda need that to hold your internal organs in. Grrrrrr... lol- anyway, let me know how it works out :) |

| Foods | Where do u buy (healthier) ice cream? | Jan 15 2008 12:24 (UTC) |

| You can get them at Shaws or Market Basket or Hannafords. Also, so you know- they have new ice cream from both Breyers and Friendlys that are extra rich double churned and they have 1/2 the fat. 100 calories per 1/2 cup- I got the vanilla bean and its really good!!! You can put frozen fruit on top- its very tasty. | |||

| Foods | Healthy eating in College? | Jan 11 2008 15:17 (UTC) |
|
Ok I know in the minority here, but I just graduated from college. My freshman year I gained 30lbs in the first semester because the access to healthy food is limited. Its so much easier to keep snack foods than fruit- snack foods dont go bad. Its also soooo much easier to order pizza or chinese, or something fried when the dining hall is closed than go out and buy healthy stuff. I lost that weight the same year, because the nice thing about college is the exercise classes like kickboxing and Zumba. However, after I transferred schools and they didnt offer that anymore, I gained a few more lbs. What they really dont tell you is after you graduate the opportunity to gain weight is vast!! In college at least you are walking alot and moving around to get to classes and back to the dorm. Now I live in my apartment, drive to work, sit at my desk all day, drive home, and eat and sleep and wake up just to do it all over. Boy have I gained weight from that.
In any case- when you get to school- GET INVOLVED!!! that way you will stay active and be a bit more healthy for it. Good Luck!! |

I've been finding that eating slower and really savoring what I'm eating helps. Also, for those times when you just want something in your mouth but your not really hungry I do herbal tea and/or gum. I think gum works the best for me because it tricks my brain into thinking I'm eating since I'm chewing and tasting stuff.
Just a thought. :)
Oh and LOTS of water |

Hi Tina,
I dont need to lose a whole 100 lbs, could probably stand to lose 70 but a more realistic, appropriate goal for me is 50lbs. I have issues staying motivated and all the advice in that huge post, made me want to sigh and go to sleep. Thats the problem- I lack motivation to even do all of that. phew trying to lose weight is exhausting and it makes me hungry. Need help too. But I'm rooting for ya!!! Good Luck! |

Hi all, 23 year old from Massachusetts here. Getting married in June. Recently (like the last six months) gained 30-20 lbs and I'm just trying to lose the 20 before the wedding and maybe a total of 50 by next year. Love food, its my hero. I get crazy cravings- and so far I'm just trying to cut back and log everything and its calories, but boy am I no where near what everyone says is that calorie intake weight loss level. Anyway, could really use some heavier ladies who are trying to lose- I need secrets of how to stay motivated and just not eat that Big Mac....
Thanks!!! :) |

Try Healthy Choice instead of Lean Cuisine, it only has about 100 more calories and the portions are much better sized. They also have more veggies involved... I dont know how you have Slimfasts for meals- I couldnt survive like that- but Kudos to you! And definitely dont completely deprive yourself, even a little piece of dark chocolate can kick a craving and its way less calories. Sometimes, you just need a Big Mac...lol |

have you thought about therapy?
I really feel as though you should call someone immediately to get help. Even if you go to the hospital they can get you in to see someone right away. They can put you on a healthy diet and get you to a healthy weight, without these feelings.
Please, seek help from professionals! |

Claire- Yes, everyone is missing the point. The point is that Layla completely estimated incorrectly. She saw herself as bigger than she was. I think she was absolutely beautiful and to all you haters who say shes just lazy- dieting and thinking you are fat is not the way to do it. THis show is about learning to love yourself regardless of what you look like. Because if you love yourself, you will want to do whats best for your body by eating healthy or exercising- not because somebody told you to, or you want to be 135lbs- but because you want to be healthy.
So what if someone is not your idea of thin or healthy looking- if they are within a healthy weight range that wont give them complications later and they are healthy according to their doctor and they feel good- What does it matter to you??
I loved this show and I can completely relate with Layla. Luckily I have some sort of confidence, and I am trying to lose weight- but not for anyone but me. I'm tired of feeling tired and I want to be healthy again. not because I have some insane weight loss goal- in fact my goal is actually still with a bit of meat on my bones. So whatever to you naysayers.... Go eat a rice cake or something. |

It does get a whole lot easier. I used to take a class at my old college, and I cant find a single instructor in my area now- I would so much rather go someplace to an actual class with an instructor than have the tapes and try to do it on my own.
Anyone got any ideas? |
