Weight Loss Is it bad to have most of your calories for dinner? Jul 09 2009
13:48 (UTC)

Instead of changing how much you eat for dinner, why don't you just go for a brisk walk after you eat? It's okay to eat a little more for your dinner just don't sit around afterwards. If most of your physical activity is in the morning then it is wise to eat less in the evening, but if you want to just stick to what you are doing now then exercise in the morning and do 15-20 minutes of exercise (walking the dog, brisk evening walk, or even dancing in your living room) after your dinner.

Weight Loss Should I say I'm 'sedentary' or 'lightly active'? May 07 2009

I would count that as moderately active. As far as putting in sedentary then putting your work hours in as an activity that's up to you--the only difference will be time spent logging on your computer. Also as you lose weight it's important that you redo your account settings and adjust your calorie intake according to your new weight.

Weight Loss Out drinking/partying all night?! May 05 2009

okay, unless you are dancing and really active all night you won't be burning any significant amount of calories off what you drank. I know an 8 oz drink (wide mouth glass) of a whiskey sour is 630 calories. A shot of vodka is 55 calories. So if you got drunk (depending on size)  I think it's safe to say you drank well over 3000 calories the other night. So any calorie burning you did manage to do didn't make much of a dent.... :( --sorry!!

You need to go to the OBGYN...it could be a lot more serious than the scare of pregnancy. If your two cycles late and still showing negative on your preg tests then you are not pregnant. It sounds to me that something else could be going on, something else quite worrisome. You need to go to the Gyno.

Weight Loss I don't like my arms. How do I make them smaller? Apr 16 2009

Try taking your dumbells on your walk with you...while you're speed walking do overhead presses with your thumb placed behind the bar rather in front, That little change will isolate your shoulders and triceps and biceps. It really burns bad but do as many as you can. I promise your arms will shrink, I did it this same way and lost an inch and a half in each arm in a month. My trainer is the one who taught me this trick. In fact my profile pic shows what my old arms used to look like, as of right now I have 13in arms that are much more sculpted than the blob like 14.5 inch arms I had before.

The Lounge Advice on insecurity in a relationship? Sep 15 2008

Honey, you have nothing to worry about...You are young and still trying to figure out how to be in a relationship with the opposite sex. How you feel is normal, everyone at some point in time has felt this way while dating. Sex isn't required in a serious dating relationship, so those times your feeling insecure about the solidity of what you have with your boyfriend think about it this way--take confidence in his patience and reverence for you as a person you don't have to have sex to relate to him better. Spending time and taking your time is how you form a close relationship, and if you give it (sex) all away now what will be left for him to wait for? Be glad that he is willing in spite of his "guyness" to control himself for you. Just because he isn't having sex with you doesn't mean he isn't attracted to you or is going elsewhere for satisfaction. Remember: You don't have to be a victim of your passions, you are in control of them and so is he. Sounds to me he's a KEEPER!

Weight Loss slimquick cleanse? Sep 08 2008
19:44 (UTC)

I tried it when I was desperate to pull my body out of a platuea, it worked and I lost about 8lbs in a week. There is a HUGE draw back though...Something called rebound water wieght retention. As soon as you stop using it you'll gain all of it back AND thensome, rebound water weight retention happens when you start taking any concentrated amounts of food or herbs that act as a diuretic in your system. Your brain turns on hormones to tell your body to hold more water cause you're loosing water too quickly (this happens even if you stay hydrated because the water you drink gets flushed out just as quickly), the longer your body stays dehydrated the more your body will produce this hormone. Herbal quick fixes such as Slimquick can work and do but you have to stay on them. When I got off SlimQuick cleanse I gained 12lbs in three days and it took nearly two weeks for it to come off, after that no more herbal cleansing for me, Thanks! You might do better eating your way to a cleaner body and drinking more water. But be careful cause some of those cleansing diets can be dangerous.

Motivation Do You Hold Your Stomach In? All the time? Sep 06 2008

well, from what I understand...flexing your stomach muscles not "sucking in" but pulling in your abs- like when your working out, running, lifting weights even doing some yoga moves requires a stiff core- can strengthen your stomach muscles and eventually you won't have to "suck in". It does work,  I started  to flex my tummy muscles when I was younger and starting to compete as an athlete (in fact,my coach was the one who suggested it so I could make my jumps better). I just kept my abs stiff during everyday activities and eventually they pulled in on their own and even now I can still relax and my tummy stays flat.

Fitness OUCH! My running is starting to hurt.. Jul 26 2008
07:21 (UTC)

i must agree....its your shoes! It sounds like your legs seem to have adjusted to absorbing the impact the nike shox provided for. when you changed shoes it also changed how your legs absorbed the impact, unfortunately if you continue to use your New balance shoes to run in~your knees will eventually get worse. Your stride and running style has been "fine tuned" in the nike shox not the new balances so your legs built strength and endurance according to the type of impact your shoes were allowing for. new balance shoes are much heavier in padding in certain areas then nike shoes so there is more likely to have a greater spring back in them than the nike shox. Believe me I've had to learn the hard way I've been a runner off and on for the past 13 years. My stride and running style are adjusted to Newbalances I ran in the same type of new balances since highschool and I've tried running in some different brands to find that they tore up my knees and ankles so I just stick to what my body is fine with (new balance).... Running, I love it, but it can kill your knees if you aren't careful, and staying with a shoe that is hurting your limbs and joints will keep you from your marathon, so switch back. FYI: when you do go back to your nike shox you will feel some discomfort at first like a stretching feeling mixed with pain but as you start to warm up your body will readjust and your stride will straighten back out. The sooner you switch back the better your chances are at being able to run your marathon stress free.

Weight Loss It's so EXPENSIVE to eat healthy. Mac n cheese - $0.99, blueberries - $5.99 Jul 26 2008
01:44 (UTC)

i agree...it really pisses me off! I am in a family of five and we've had to get saavy about how we feed our kids on a healthy budget. We do the rice and beans instead of mac n cheese, we also do lots of oatmeal (plain), which is very cheap if you buy in bulk. Low income families always are looking for ways to fill up their kids with out breaking the budget, including us. What I've found is buying in season fruits only (inbulk) and buying the 8lb bag of veggies normandy for $5.00 from costco. really helps. In fact, I spend $114.78 buying yogurt, veggies, chicken, fruit, and cheese for my kids and Hubby/Me at Costco. Then spend $95.54 at Walmart for the other items like zataranz boxes of dirty rice to mix in with the bulk rice I buy and since we don't eat the entire baked chicken for the dinner I take the left overs and mix them in with the dirty rice for dinner the next day. This lasts us two to three weeks. So eating healthy doesn't have to break the bank its all about what you choose. But I do wish the berries and certain fruits and veggies were cheaper. But from what you listed those things may be healthier to eat but you might want t o change your consumption of those items, the pricing on seafood may never go down.

My husband got me started listening to metal while I lift weights, I've found I get through the burn a lot easier if I get myself a little pissed off, and well....heavy metal can do that. But A Word of Warning you'll be exhausted at the end of your workout cause you'll really push. It sounds silly and I didn't believe my hubby until he turned it on but he was right.

Calorie Count Weight Log Question? Jun 30 2008

~~ I found this reply from one of the mediators (person with an orange astrix by their name), a mediator is someone who can tell you what the logs are for and how they work, they help run the website~~

The green line is your Trend line -- it takes your last ten weights and calculates which direction your weight is heading.  It has the effect of evening out many of the minor fluctuations that happen with weigh ins (particularly if you are a frequent weigher).

As long as the green line is still going down, don't freak too much about blue line up and downs

Weight Loss So tired... Jun 01 2008
19:39 (UTC)

i agree with chub2lose, you need to eat way more and cut down on your cardio, your weight loss won't be as effective if all you do is cardio-- you need to do some weight lifting. I eat 1500 to 1800 cals a day and weight lift an hour every other day and do cardio on the alternate days. I promise you'll see results if you start lifting weights, I've lost 44 pounds since January 7th 2008 doing weights AND cardio. My personal favorite to workout to is Cathe Freidrichs Power Hour and Cathe Freidrichs cardio and weights, she is always on FITtv if you have cable I just DVR her stuff. It is very hard and painful work but I am getting the results I'm looking for. It's good that you're willing to put in the work to lose weight but you need to be vigilant about HOW you put the work in or your efforts will be for naught.

Fitness Perplexed About Cardio Intensity May 08 2008
16:40 (UTC)

well, from what i understand working at 75% for longer periods of time (60 min- utes) is much more effective than 30 minutes of 100% intensity, when it comes to burning fat. Your body is made to conserve it's fat stores at any cost to survive, which means that giving it a super intense workout will force it to tap into more nutritional stores to keep the brain and organs running properly. Most of our bodies nutrition is stored in our muscles. If you workout at 75% capacity your body will tap into its alternate energy stores (a.k.a. FAT) because it is not scrambling to keep itself operating at optimal efficiency. I hope that answers your question.

hey there, I've had 3 C-sections and I am 29 years old. I'm 5 foot 9in. I agree about every body is different. But with alot of hard work my tummy has flattened back out. the only thing left is the wrinkly flob of skin over my scar. My youngest is almost two but I've been working on my stomach for about 8 months now. I use a 10 pound medicine ball paired with an exercise ball and lots of planks and wall sits.

Weight Loss OMG What do i do Mar 20 2008
00:35 (UTC)

you will see some weight gain possibly a pound or two depending on how high the level of salt is in the items you ate. Not to worry! Just drink your water and exercise and it'll dissappear next day, cause its not a real pound. most things that are high in fats are also high in salts so the effect looks alot scarier than it really is. So remember if you do gain it is just water.

Try eating your banana closer to your "i want to beddy bye" time. Chances are you are burning through that banana really quickly and your body basically comes off an "energy high" and your feeling the crash at 2:30pm. Your feeling of exhaustion is just your bodies way of telling you I need more quick energy (carbs). The best way to do that without ruining your diet is to move your eating time closer to 2:30pm.  If I were you I'd eat it about 1:45 pm or 2:00 pm. And That way No coffee or Soda is required ;). Sounds like your doing a really great job Keep It Up!

Weight Loss Q? Actual Calories, and Calories spent in exercise... Mar 10 2008
18:53 (UTC)

to everyone....you need to eat more calories than 1300 or 1000 if you are working out...the reason is because your body will cannibalize itself and your wieght loss efforts will slow dramatically....Cannibalization happens when you are not eating enough and burning too much; your body will actually tap into your muscles for nutrients to feed itself. Muscle actually contains a higher nutrition level then fat cells ...so instead of loosing fat you'll loose muscle and be at the mercy of some serious water wieght gain fluctations cause your fat cells hold water and show bloating far easier . All your working out will be for nothing, and you have to ask your self this as well, will i be able to keep up 1000 calories a day for the rest of my life? cause in order for you to stay where your at or smaller (when your body canniblizes itself) you'll have to continue to starve. Its an ugly cycle to get in. Feed Your BODY!! Tone your muscles!! and then you will have something to burn the fat. It wont do you any good not eating enough-- from what i understand the optimal calorie intake is between 1400- 1600 calories a day to loose wieght for a woman. I eat 1600 a day and run three times a week and do wieght lifting 4 times a week I have lost 20 lbs since Jan 7th 2008.

I hate being on my period this happened last month too, in spite of my wieghtloss I was feeling down on myself, I even went and remeasured myself to prove to me that I'm doing a good job (my measurements were a huge reassurance) and I found myself STILL dissappointed. But Today is a better day!!

Hi I'm carlen i am 29 years old when i started i was at 272lbs Jan 7th of this year and i am currently at 253lbs!  I had three babies in three years and did not lose any wieght between those pregnancies so i gained over 90 lbs. My goal  is 180lbs by my 30th birthday in September I am 5'9. So far so good I run 2 -3 miles 4 times a week and i do resistance training involving my kiddos in a wagon... i pull them double handed at 112lbs combined wieght, going up a BIG hill  for about 30 minutes on the days I don't run. My true ideal wieght is around 150lbs but i haven't wieghed that since i was 18 yrs old. It is good to see all of you who are in a similar boat as i am.

hey there, the only exercise i know slims your legs for sure is dancing...not hiphop either more like tango, and other ballroom dancing stuff, and ballet too. The reason why is that dancing elongates your muscles instead of making them short and thick like wieght lifting does. Power Yoga might also do the trick.
