| Weight Loss | Seriously, could I be *addicted* to chocolate?! | Mar 04 2008 03:02 (UTC) |

This is pretty interesting because i've decided to give up chocolate for the month of march. Some months ago when i was keeping a food journal, i realized that i was having chocolate in some shape or form EVERY DAY. so i figure i can lose some weight by cutting it out. so far, i havent had any serious cravings (lol i know its only been 3 days) but i AM planning on having a chocolate feast on the 1st of April and i dont feel bad about it. i dont see anything wrong with "going nuts" for one day and i doubt it'll ruin the progress i make this month. ANYWAY. in response to your question, i highly doubt you're "addicted" or you wouldnt have been able to survive the whole month without it. you just wouldn't. |

oooh i like "this too shall pass" i usually use "is this muffin/cookie/chocolate bar going to solve your problems?" to halt emotional eating. and it works really well because then i think, not only will this treat not solve my problems but it will make me fatter thus adding to my problems! definitely a lose-lose situation there another favorite is "no more coming back!", when i get frustrated and i just want to ditch this healthy eating thing and stuff myself with fries and icecream. because it reminds me that even if i ditch the "diet" now for the instant gratification (food), in a week or two, after feeling bloated/fat/hating myself, i'll be back to try it again and possibly with even more to lose because i let myself go |

i try to eat hot cereal like weetabix and oatmeal because (im a cereal addict) its harder to go back for more. the people here love love love Kashi Go Lean cereal...i've never tried it (i think its too expensive and too high in calories) but im sure it tastes really good. umm probably the best advice is to look for cereal with high fibre and low sugar content =) |

heyy yay im in exactly the same boat! i gained about 10lbs between sept and dec last semester and now im trying to lose it + more (like 15 more lol). and yeah my weight gain was mostly from bad cafeteria food and also eating out a lot (im not a big drinker) umm in terms of snacks i have things like rice cakes, low cal hot chocolate, sugar-free jello pudding, boiled eggs, fruit (oranges, bananas, grapes, grapefruits...), laughing cow cheese, 100 cal chocolate bars, healthy crackers, low cal popcorn... meals: i make sandwiches often (i bought a bag of spinach, chicken slices from the deli, tomato, cucumber and bread and i use laughing cow cheese instead of butter)..omelettes are also pretty easy...also (if you can afford it), get some of those lean cuisine type dinners. they're high in sodium but they can be a real life saver when theres no time to cook. usually, instead of heating them in the microwave like the box recommends, i'll put it into a pan and actually recook it. it tastes a million times better. canned soups are good too for stressful times. umm i also like stirfrys alot so i just cut onions and peppers up into pieces, sautee them in some olive oil and spices, then add like tomato sauce, baked chicken (sometimes i fry it too), whole wheat spaghetti, mixed vegetables (buy a bag of them frozen). and tada you have like all your food groups in one meal. those are good to like make a lot when you have time and then keep it for days wow this is really long but i hope it was helpful and good luck! god knows we need it...<33 |

I heard a guy say once, “I don’t eat for pleasure, I eat for purpose.” I understand the sentiment, but eating for pleasure is a purpose. It’s called eating for the purpose of experiencing pleasure. When you start eating for a purpose higher than pleasure, you’ll be there.wow you really put a lot of thought into this, didnt you? well, thanks for the info! i love the line about pleasure and purpose llol |

okaay. so i guess you need to find something to do...preferably something that puts you around people? umm i dont know what you like to do so its hard to think of examples...music, taking a walk, exercise, try on a favorite outfit, visit friends? dont do the small treat thing if it wont work but make sure to get a good amount of calories in during your meals. how many times a day do you eat? my most binge-prone times are between lunch and dinner because im usually procrastinating by eating. also i LOVE to sleep lol. so now what i try to do (i cant do it everyday obviously) is to take a small nap between the two meals and when i wake up, the urge to binge is gone!

*hug* i have this problem too..maybe think about whats making you binge...like are you sure that you're not restricting your calories too much before the binge? or maybe you're bored? also maybe you shouldnt bake if you cant control yourself..another good idea might be to, instead of having a cheat day, allow yourself a cheat treat once a day. and try to have it at the end of the day so you can like reward yourself for having eaten healthily all day. and make sure its a small treat lol one last thing: are you exercising? because i know for me, exercising kills my urge to binge like THAT (*snaps*) good luck! |

| Weight Loss | How often should one weigh? | Jan 25 2008 13:23 (UTC) |
16 |
okay heres what i do and it really works for me: i used to weigh myself everyday (in the morning, after peeing, before eating) and like you, the fluctuations would depress me. so now i have a weekly weigh-in day of monday (i like mondays because it forces you to eat well over the weekend hahha). BUT i am still allowed to step on the scale on the other days of the week and i do. but i make sure that on all other days i always step on the scale after i've already eaten that day (so like in the afternoon or the evening) because i believe that your true weight can only be determined from weighing in the morning (after peeing, before eating). so when i weigh myself in the evening on like a thursday, if its high, i can console myself with the fact that its just the food in my stomach and if its low then obviously i rejoice lol...AND i get to fulfill my OCD-ish desire to step of the scale everyday =) i hope this helps! |

wow that sucks..im also in college and im so thankful that i have access to a kitchen! that said...lean cuisines are good, veggies in the microwave, canned beans (yum!), oatmeal (for breakfast) is microwaveable... also does your college cafe allow you to take things up to your room with you? because i know that here, theres a place where you can buy sandwiches, drinks, fruits etc with your meal plan and its really a life saviour when i dont have time to cook... |

yeah im the same as vicereine...i counted calories for about 4 months and now i keep a food journal of everything i eat and (since i already know the average caloric content of most of what i eat), i just estimate. besides, calorie counting got a little too stressful once i started university and eating cafeteria. it was impossible to know the number of cals in the food there so i'd always be worried that it was too low or too high...what im doing now works better for me |
