  • Hey everyone-Weighed in late becuase today is my first day of vacation in the Charleston area and I was in the car all day yesterday. I'm on a new scale and just got back from dinner when I weighed in so that might be some reason for weight gain because i haven't really had any bad days except I couldn't excercise yesterday. Hope everyone is doing well!

o my god. read them immediately! they are fantastic. I've read them all 7 times (I know, I am a TOTAL dork lol) except Deathly Hallows, but they never cease to capture my attention. Of course, take my advice with a grain of salt, I'm a bit of a potterholic. I just reread the series to celebrate the release of the new movie. Anyway, you should definitely read them if you like Twilight.

ahhh these are the best. i have about 20 in my fridge right now. I like pineapple upside down cake, cherry cobbler, key lime pie, and just plain strawberry. I usually eat three a day since I'm a teenager and I don't drink too much milk and calcium is good for you blah blah blah...I mostly like them because they taste like dessert haha.

Fitness school's MILE RUN test Mar 27 2009
    02:26 (UTC)
    3

Run a mile as fast as you can everyday until your race and stretch before and after. Time yourself everyday to keep yourself motivated. During volleyball season (yeah I don't know why we run for volleyball either) we run a mile everyday before practice timed for our summer conditioning. If we don't improve our time every 3 days by 5 seconds we have to run an extra 1/3 of a mile. It's the fastest I've ever seen drastic changes. I went from an 8 minute mile the first day to a 7: 20 by the end of two weeks, some girls improved even more than that. Anyway good luck..those mile run tests are the worst.

peanut butter for sure. 2 tablespoons is not enough haha.

cheese is really high too. like 100 calories for one slice. I used to eat 5 for a snack just standing in front of the fridge..ugg.

P.F. Chang's~ Don't be fooled by their menu! you think everything is decent in sodium and calories and then you realize that all their information is for one serving size-and theres 4 or 5 servings in one dish. The soothing lettuce wraps are around 1100 calories and 3000mg of sodium for just a piece of lettuce and chicken filling. I dont even know how they manage that. I could rant about restaurants seemingly superhuman way of packing ridiculous amounts of sodium and calories in their food. It's outrageous.

Fitness Workout everyday Mar 26 2009
    01:26 (UTC)
    3

I usually work out everyday but I take some days easier than others. Like I have days where I'll work really hard and run 3 miles and then do weights and then i have days where I settle for 30 minutes on the elliptical and stretching. I think a really important aspect of working out that some people look over is that you need to spice up your routine. if you do the same work out at the same intensity everyday, you are bound to hit a plateau because your body will adapt to it and you will no longer find it challenging (not to mention you'll be bored out fo your mind). Try one of the classes your gym offers or try swimming or biking instead of running. It makes your work out go a lot faster too!

    Good Luck!

cheerfuljb~ Glad to hear you had such a great workout yesterday. What exactly is Zumba? I've heard good things about it but I don't know exactly what the class entails haha. I don't know if there's a specific nutritionist who specializes in running but any type of sports nutritionist should be able to help you work out an eating plan for your training schedule. Just google nutritionists in your area. Let us know how it goes : )

Today's been going pretty well. I did indulge in a starbuck's frappuchino but I got the light version to help cut out all those excess calories. Just under 2 weeks to prom. Ugg. 10 days to go to my mini goal. Wish me luck.

    Original Post by lukewhoa:

Question, why are you bulking up for basketball? Shouldnt you work on other things instead of bulking up? Such as, your shot, foot work, conditioning and some jump training? Just wondering.

I am a 5 11 post player who used to weigh 145 (now 170) and play against girls 6 2- 6 5 who weigh around 250. I was underweight and now am about 170. I do work on conditioning (hence the chafing while running) and I work out with a sports trainer 3 times a week to work on foot speed and my vertical along with regular basketball practice (for my AAU team) twice a week and tournaments where you play 2-3 games per day Saturday and Sunday. During my school season in the winter, which just just ended, I have games twice a week and practice 5 days a week. Obviously my coordination and conditioning is not a problem, I was simply being plowed over because I was undersized. : )

Fitness Question about calories consumed during the day when working out/running at night? Mar 24 2009
    22:59 (UTC)
    2

Your completely fine. Depending on how fast you run you'll probably burn about 400 calories tonight with your run and I'll estimate that your sedentary calorie burn would be about 1, 700 (just an estimate) which would bring you up to 2100. So as long as you don't go overboard on dinner you should come in just under your burn for the day. Even if those numbers are slightly off if you go over your daily burn one day you will not gain. Just make sure you stick with your diet and excercise routine the rest of the week.

P.S: you can find out your daily calories burned and figure out how many you should eat according to your activity level using Calorie Count. Under the tools tab at the top of the page ; )

congrats everyone. it sounds like everyone is doing pretty well. stick with it! Going on day 4. I had training today and I'm about to go running but I'm super sunburnt so I don't know how far I'll go. I want to weigh myself but I'm kinda afraid of what it's going to say... I might just wait til the end of the week..: / 2 weeks til prom......

    Keep on going everyone!

    hey everyone!

chubbydodo~ I know! That movie is so ridiculous. We watched it at school last year and I still can't even look at a Big Mac. French Fries on the other hand are still delicious lol. But thanks a lot for the encouragment with the prom dress. I went shopping later that day and picked one out. I had a mini melt down in the dressing room when I had to ask for another larger size but I finally found one that i really like. I would totally join your before prom program but unfortunately I waited til the last minute and my prom is in 2 weeks so I made a personal goal to not binge until then. It'll be the longest I've ever gone : ).

But anyways the night will be a lot of fun and we'll both look stunning in our princess dresses lol : )

    hey everyone~

I've been reading over the posts in this forum for a few pages and it looks like no ones posted for a few days so I hope I'm not too late, but I just had a bad day and needed to tell someone.

So today I had to go prom dress shopping which I have been dreading and putting off for like 4 months. I wasn't even going to go I was dreading shopping so much until someone asked me and I thought it would be no to decline so anyway I went from being extremely thin at 140 pounds at 5 11 to on the chunky side (far side) at 175 pounds and I started with a size 9 dress thinking that was 2 sizes up from where I was before. Couldn't even zip it up. So then I tried an 11 which barely zipped and I could barely breathe. That's when I started having a meltdown in those damn department store dressing rooms. I know its extremely shallow and stupid and I should focus on the health beenfits of not binging but at the present point in time, its the vanity issue that really got to me being a typical junior girl in high school. So now I still don't have a dress with prom a week away and am dreading looking for one even more. This is day 2 and my mini goal is 10 days.

I know this is my first post (in a really long time) so I apologize to all you veterans for going on such a long rant my first time around.

    Best Wishes to everyone!

    Helionix~

Are you saying the teenagers should simply develop bad eating habits now in order to "enjoy" their metabolism? I understand that you are worried that some teenagers over analyze what they eat to the point that they are at risk for an eating disorder, but you should be careful about how you state that. I'm 16 and currently have diagnosed Binge Eating Disorder which has, for the most part, ruined a large portion of my teenage years and I don't take very kindly to being told that I shouldn't "freak out" about what I eat. If I would have access to the tools (such as this site) that taught proper eating habits I might not be in the situation I am now. I apologize if that came out too harshly, I was just stating my opinion.

    major accomplishment

so today i went to my friends house before basketball and her little sister made those pillsbury cut and bake chocolate chip cookies and she took them out of the oven the moment I walked in the door. I'm not even kidding..the oven door was open when I walked in and the smell hit me like a train. soo along with the delicious italian meal her mom made for us (a pretty healthy pasta dish with beans and tomato sauce base and three small pieces of whole grain bread no butter) I also ate 5 of the cookies. it wasn't too bad but its always the worst when i come home and think about how my day was ruined by those cookies and get in the mindset well since i already messed up today I might as well eat another 400 calories. but instead i went to the gym! it was amazing ive never been able to do that before. sorry for my mini rant. hang in there everybody : )

yeah i figured that it was just a scam. I've never tried a low carb diet but I want to study dietetics in college so I've read about a lot of em out there just trying to amass information. Plus I've had a raging headache from the lack of carbs causing me to be dehydrated (which the book tries to pass off as "carb withdrawl"). Anyway thanks for the input. really appreciate it.
