Weight Loss When to start counting again? Aug 13 2008
04:54 (UTC)

Do it at least a couple of days a week. I thought I had a handle on things and stopped counting and little by little, things crept up and weight started to come back on. I've just started counting every day again and it's amazing to me how out of control I let myself get, how you can fool yourself into thinking that you're not being that bad. I'd say count part-time, just to keep yourself on track.

Foods Calories in muffins - holy crap! Apr 04 2008

I know! Someone brought Costco muffins to work once and I had a sliver - A SLIVER - of a poppyseed one (not even one of the good caramel apple ones) and I looked it up and figured that one little sliver was 40 calories! So not worth it.

Go Trixie! You can do it! And this site is a great help in keeping track of your calories, exercise, etc. I'm like you, yo-yo my whole life, but I've lost 41 pounds since January. Just counting calories and making sure I exercise at least 5 days a week.

Just one word of caution - don't limit yourself to only fruits and veggies. Get some lean protein (meat and dairy products) and treat yourself once in a while too. That helps keep you from feeling like you're punishing yourself. I eat some chocolate or some other treat every day and I'm losing weight. I just make sure that I keep under my calorie limit.

Good luck to you!

Foods Carmine-the FREEEEEEIKY new food additive. Mar 28 2008

Carmine is a 'normal' ingredient. It's been used for centuries. Where do you think 'natural' colors come from? Red from carmine, purple from some types of shells and sea animals, blue and yellow from minerals, browns and greens from vegetation . . . Completely natural and normal, and yes, better than artificial chemicals made up to do the same thing.

Any, really, except cream based soups. I like Campbells butternut squash and the tomato basil - the ones that come in a box, not a can. Soup Man soups are also delicious if you can find them. They're made by the real Soup Nazi guy from Seinfeld. Laughing

Foods Cereal or Eggs For Breakfast? Mar 19 2008

I always eat 1 egg + 1 egg white (fried in Pam) on a piece of Orowheat double fiber bread. I feel like it's better than cereal for me because I need the protein to get my brain going, and it tends to keep me filled up for longer.  The eggs & bread are only about 160 calories, 6 grams of fat and 13 grams of protein. If I eat a bowl of cereal, I'm starving an hour later!

The day's just started and you haven't used all of your calories yet. Just choose wisely for the rest of the day. Veggies, fruit, and seafood like shrimp or scallops is very low cal. You'll be OK. :o)
Weight Loss does stress burn more calories? Mar 12 2008

It's the opposite, I think. Stress produces cortisol, which makes your body hold onto it's resources - including fat. Take a long walk, burn off the fat + the stress!
The Lounge how would you go about this? Mar 10 2008

That's what I would do - Two weddings, one in each country.  That way nobody has to travel if they aren't able to, but if they are able to, they can. That would also accommodate different traditions, if there are any in the different countries. Plus, two weddings for you! :o)
Foods Chipotle Mar 05 2008

I always get the salad with grilled chicken and the tomato salsa then I squeeze a few lemons over it too. Delicious! And I think the link above is the site I found before: You check boxes for all the ingredients you have in your salad or burrito and it gives you a very detailed nutritional information. If they take the link down (as they've done before in posts here), just google 'chipotle nutritional info.'

Mmmm, now I'm hungry for Chipotle. :o)

The Lounge Anyone gained weight due to emotional reason? Feb 28 2008

I totally realized that I eat for emotional reasons. It started to turn around when I was able to become aware of why I suddenly had the urge to eat, what was I really feeling at that moment?

I noticed that when I was feeling stressed out at my job, I had cravings for crunchy foods - chips, pretzels, etc. And when I was feeling lonely and missing a particular person, I just wanted to eat and eat and eat. Didn't matter what - a bag of chocolate, chips & dip, mac & cheese - just something that I could have alot of.

Once I started to really think about this and to make the correlation between what I was feeling and what foods I was craving, I was able to say to myself, "You just miss Soandso right now. You're not hungry," or, "Man, am I stressed! But I'm not hungry."

Most of the time just stopping and thinking and talking myself through the craving is enough. Sometimes I chew gum or make a cup of coffee and drink it very slowly until I don't feel like binging anymore.

Weight Loss 1/2 day's calories in 1 meal? Feb 27 2008
03:46 (UTC)

I usually do the same - I have breakfast, a morning snack, lunch, and an afternoon snack. Then I eat probably the same amount of calories for dinner (and sometimes an evening snack). I've lost 30 pounds so far, so I'd say it's alright! I think that as long as you are eating periodically during the day and not starving yourself until dinner than it's fine.

I have never watched this show before, but I watched it this week. Is their weight loss for just one week? Or is it over a longer period of time? I mean, how is it possible to lose like 16 pounds in one week???

I thought I was the only one who worried about that! I'm 37 but people regularly tell me that they thought I was in my 20's. I joke that it's just the fat pushing out the wrinkles, but what if it's really true! But then I remind myself of Oprah - she looks great whatever her weight, so hopefully we will too. Smile

Thanks 'Matt!' I've been dieting for a month and as of today, I've lost 25 pounds! No tricks, no surgery, no pills, no liquid drinks, no fad diets - just eating healthy, counting calories and exercise. And discovering strength and will power that I'd forgotten I had.

Thanks for the motivational speaking and keep up the good work! Laughing

Fitness how have you surprised yourself lately? Feb 06 2008

I surprised myself Sunday by resisting the strongest urge to binge I have had in the month that I've been 'dieting.' I just told myself, "Absolutely not!," and waited it out. Go me!

I can also do 150 crunches in a row now - started with 20 at a time.

Thanks for this thread! It's nice to count up our triumphs instead of our disasters.

Foods Help! 7 Days in Hawaii! Feb 05 2008

Mmmm, Hawaii! There is so much to do there, the ocean is like bathwater - you can snorkel, walk on the beach, hike in the mountains (depending on what island you go to). Exercise is definitely not a problem there.

As for food, there will probably be lots of fresh fish and seafood to eat - just make sure it's not fried or drowned in butter. Also seemed to be lots of Japanese food, which is good if you stick to the fresh fish - no tempura or any sushi with mayo like California roll etc.

You'll do great! Aloha!

Motivation I just avoided, WILLED myself out of an all out binge! Feb 05 2008

Cheers! It's good to hear a success story! I had one myself yesterday, wanted to binge so badly (just typing that word 'binge' is hard for me - to admit that I do that) but I just made myself wait it out. Minute by minute, to a half hour, to an hour, until bedtime. But I did it and I felt very accomplished - and so should you!
Motivation I have NO (ZERO, ZILCH, NADA) willpower on weekends!!!! :( Feb 04 2008

I am struggling with that RIGHT NOW!! This is my 4th weekend since I've been eating healthier and I haven't really had much of a problem yet, but right now I just want to eat! Anything! And it's really not about what food I could be eating either, it's the eating itself. I just want to sit and mindlessly eat. But so far, my laziness is working in my favor - I just keep telling myself to stay put on the couch, wait until the next commercial, the next hour, etc. If I can keep this up until 8 or 9 tonight, I can go to bed and be OK tomorrow.

Fitness what's wrong with me? Jan 30 2008
03:51 (UTC)
I know someone else whose feet go numb on the elliptical. My feet just ache after 10 minutes. I think that it's because there's a steady pressure on your feet when you're doing that. You're not picking up your feet and putting them back down as you would when you're walking. Maybe it puts pressure on nerves or cuts off your normal circulation. *shrug*

The way I do it is to try to guess all the ingredients and their amounts and look those up. So you might have to look up cream cheese, mushrooms, vegetable oil, etc. and add those things up.
Young Calorie Counters What Do You Take For Lunch At School? Jan 27 2008

I like to make sure I have lots of protein to keep my brain going all day - Yogurt, 100-calorie pudding cups, cheese, almonds - 2 of these for snacks (1 for before lunch & 1 for after). For lunch I usually have soup, 1/2 a chicken breast or some sort of lunch meat, some fruit & a few wheat crackers. And always eat a good breakfast, kids! Smile
