So, if I am 16, 5'8 and 137 lbs, is 1500 calories a day alright for me? I usually shoot for 1400, but, I always exceed to around 1500. I don't recently exercise, because I am sick, but, usually I exercise also.

-You're already at a healthy weight

-You're too young to be restricting calories

-You have an undisclosed illness

-Random people on an internet forum are not a reliable source of advice about your health.

Obvious answer: Before restricting calories, see your family doctor and follow his advice.

I think angie is the type of person who lumps all diet pills into a catagory and thinks she needs to sound off against those who may use them. She likely did not read any of the thread. She also did not do any research. Angie motivates herself by flaming others. It makes her feel like she has all the answers. She had nothing of value to add to the discussion.

I read the entire thread and saw an amazing amount of anecdotal evidence (ie. worthless) without a single link to a reliable study. I also saw your posts in which you questioned the complete lack of evidence and in the very same post admitted you were taking it.

This contradiction was made even more confusing when you decided that a single persons personal results (your own) were somehow evidence that this product works.

Until I see a single reliable (peer reviewed and published) human study these pills stay in my personal category of expensive weight loss scam.

For those that would like to see a temporary increase in metabolism at a vastly decreased cost...About.com has some simple ideas:

http://healing.about.com/od/herbaltherapy/a/w eightlossherbs.htm

There is simply no substitute for a healthy diet and exercise. No magic pills, no get out of jail free cards and no short cuts.

With regard to enthusiastic posters raving about the benefits, a quick check of a persons journals and posting history usually reveals a tendency to be  a 'fad' junkie.

Good luck to everyone making the effort to get healthier.

I can find no authoritative source (including the resources on this site) that says you should always eat a minimum of your calculated BMR.

As far as I can tell the site says to calculate your burn which they gives you the tools to do and to eat 500-1000 calories less than this to lose weight. The only caveat is that you must eat enough calories to maintain a healthy diet (can be done with 1000 calories a day but on average requires 1200 for women).

So to summarize:

Step 1 - Calculate your burn (use the site tools)

Step 2 - Subtract 500-1000 calories

Step 3 - Ensure your calories are enough to maintain a healthy diet based on gender and age.

If you want to contradict the health experts on the site with new or more detailed information, then at least provide some scientific citations so people can make an informed choice.

One more thing...before somebody bites my head off (and I know its coming :) and says YOU HAVE TO EAT A MINIMUM OF YOUR BMR OR YOU WILL GET AIDS, please remember we have fat reserves for a reason. The whole idea of losing weight is to supplement a healthy diet with some stored energy to create an overall caloric deficit.

There have been some studies that suggest pomegranate juice can prevent and  even slow the progress of cancer, particularly prostate cancer.  Not quite sure how important that will be to the predominately female audience of this site but it's still quite impressive for a single food.

It appears this juice is one of the few that actually lives up to the hype.

Am I the only one on this site that requires scientific validation from credible sources before doing anything as stupid as 'detoxifying' or sticking something up my arse to 'cleanse'?

Seriously...critical thinking doesn't have calories.

Either you're a forum troll, or you are serious and will end up crashing after cannibalizing an impressive amount of muscle.

I guess if you're back in a few months fatter than you were when you started (due to a lowered metabolism and reduced muscle mass) we'll have our answer.

How can a diet that involves pure sugar and pepper possibly be unhealthy?! Go go natural selection!!

It would be nice if the analysis for your diet on the site broke down the amount of trans fat you were having so you could track it over time.

Thank you so very much, I appreciate it greatly. I do however feel like a total dork though. Very easy and makes the site even better than it was.

I've found adding directl from the label is usually easier (and more accurate) than trying to find the exact product in the search engine.

ddfletch, that's what an oval is. see merriam webster: http://www.m-w.com/dictionary/oval

some ovals aren't ellipses, but the formula provided is for an ellipse (like a track).

Your confusing a mathematical definition with a common use definition. The ellipse and any formula involving a major and/or minor axis is not applicable since the only portion of the track that involves more distance are the semi-circles capping the ends. The lengths on the outer and inner edges of the straights are of course identical.

2 semi-circles = 1 circle so the extra distance is:

The length of the circumference of the outer edge - the length of the circumference of the inner edge.

Luckily we don't have to know the absolute diameters of the circles, just the difference between the inner and outer.

The formula for a simple circumference is pi*diameter. We know the diameter defining the difference is track width*2 so the final formula for the difference is:

track width * 2 * 3.1416

Hope it was a bit clearer this time :)

A track isn't an oval. It's straight lengths with a semi-circle attached to each end. The only distance you need to get an exact distance would be the width of the track.

Assuming a 15' track width, you just use:

15' * 3.1416 = 47'

 Hope this helps.

Thanks for the responses. With the sodium I've been forced to start making quite a bit of my food fresh (which is great) just to get to the level I'm at. I can't believe how much sodium is used in damn near everything.

For instance, the wrap I use for lunches is whole grain and in all other ways quite healthy, but the sodium is 440mg. By the time you add in pepper rings, pickles and a single slice of cheese you've already hit 800-900 mg and I haven't even added any meat!

I'm about to have a few legs of Alaskan king crab. Each leg contains about 1400mg of sodium.

Thank god I don't have a medical reason to reduce sodium because it appears to be a LOT harder than reducing calories.

To be honest, you have the look of someone who is self-absorbed, but I might be influenced by the fact you created an 'attention' topic.
