Recognize that no matter what happened you were brave enough to get yourself out of that bad situation and for that you are beautiful and strong. I was in an abusive relationship for 10 years myself and have been out of it for 9 years. I dealt with getting my confidence back by just taking things day by day. One of the first things I did when I finally left the ex was to join the local gym. It helped raise my self-esteem a lot. It kept my depression at bay. And, I made friends who were always happy to see me make it there consistently. Really, it does help to make friends or be around people who are positive. And, time. Getting over the negative things that were said to you takes time. It sounds like you've made lots of progress. By the way, I also became a massage therapist and have been at it for 3 years now. It's helped a lot to be able to offer a comforting touch to other people. You heal as you help heal other people's pain. Good luck.

I'm sorry to hear about the stores not being open in your area. I live in California and the local Ralph's grocery store is open on Christmas day. I'm thinking that maybe our Ralph's decided to stay open because they couldn't afford not to be open. Happy Holidays. |

Running. If you don't already run, start with walking and building up to a jog and then jogging continuously for ten, twenty, thirty mins at least 3 days a week. It helped me. It's not something that can be done quickly but I think you can see some kind of results within your time frame. |

My mom died when she was 38 years old and I was ten. I always saw her sick, in and out of hospitals, depressed and tired. I'm going to be 38 this year. I want to be healthy, active and happy. I want to see my kids grow. Oh, and I want to be sexy! |

rnjt-You're right I have to reward myself for staying away from the buffets. A dark chocolate candy bar! Just one. Promise. So far no fast food and I've been working out since Monday. Keep up the good work staying with your goals! |

Honestly? I did not eat at any casino buffets. Mark that as checked but I did have some bad food nonetheless. We're talking the fried/fast food variety. And, sadly did not get my lazy booty on the elliptical. However, I did do forty minutes of cardio this morning. And alas, no fast food today. So, no massage. Sigh |

I'm aiming not to go buckwild at the Las Vegas casino buffets, go lighter on the junk food, drink more water and maybe sneak 30 minute on the elliptical machine tomorrow so I can shave off a day from the workout schedule later on during the week. My reward----I would love a massage! |

I met my boyfriend online and we're going on three years. Sure, you hear a lot of horror stories but I think I really lucked out since he contacted me first and he is one of the best people I've ever met. I'm Asian and shy and prefer Caucasian men myself. The online thing helped me get out there in the field to meet who I wanted to meet. |

I hit the gym and steer clear of the kitchen unless it's for an apple, baby carrots, and lots of water. Then I read Calorie Count stories and figure out I'm not alone in this me versus the food and bulge battle. |

I picture the donuts I ate settling on my thighs and my arms. That's what usually keeps me going. That and the idea that I don't want to wake up one day, look at myself and say wow how did I become twenty pounds heavier overnight? Oh, and whenever I hear a lady tell me when I was your age I used to be a 100 pounds without ever working out and eating whatever I wanted and then I hit forty and I woke up with an extra twenty pounds. That's when I make a mental note to hit the gym so I don't have to tell that same story twenty years later. |

I hope everyone is doing well. Heard a story from a friend how she was 103 at 5'1" from her teens until she reached 40. Then she went up to 129. Then after a bad breakup, emotional eating, and stress she went up another 45 pounds. In her words, it felt like the gain was "overnight" but it's usually not. I think the case may be that she didn't just didn't pay attention to it until the gain was way to hard to ignore and losing just got tougher as her body went through changes. I'm glad everyone here is making an effort now to take care of themselves. Keep up the great work and it's great to see more and more people joining. |

| Weight Loss | A post I read a few weeks ago destroyed my motivation. | Jul 11 2008 16:06 (UTC) |

Going to the gym 3-5 times a week for an hour at a time seems pretty lengthy and intense to me. If it was making you feel better then I think it was doing something for you and maybe hitting it again will make you feel good again. Exercise is good for your head and your body. It does release those feel good endorphins, it can help you with stress, it keeps the blood flowing, the weights help you build strong muscles and a faster metabolism. There's just too many good reasons to keep working out. I hope this helps. |

Hi everyone. Hope everyone is doing well. Oj & molasses. I'm going to have to try that because I get sugar cravings everyday. I'm just a big sugar junkie. Bad! Very bad. I hope I still have teeth by my 40th birthday. |

Wendyb27- Glad to hear your back on track. I know it's hard when you're busy with the family. Thanks for the warm welcome too. I've been struggling to maintain since the 4th of July and I think it's the quality of food not the quantity that I've been eating. To stay at 113, I have to work out four or five times a week. Plus, I have to really limit the sweets. I wish my kids were still little sometimes. I miss cuddling with them and taking them to the park. Now, they can't wait to get away from me.

Lulufit- Don't give up. When I lived in Washington state it nearly rained through every 4th of July, it was tough being stuck inside with the kids. Maybe you can get a membership to a gym that has a day care facility so that you can work out indoors. Or, you can try out different fitness DVD's. The sun will come out and you and the cuties can run amok in the park. You'll all feel so much better.

I hope it's not too late to join. I'm 37 years old with two teenage sons. My older one will be 17 next month and my younger one is 15 years old. I'm 5'3" and holding steady around 113 during the week but it usually goes up nearly two pounds after the weekend. Things are already changing for me. Sadly, I seem to get more winded during my workouts nowadays. Whatever weight I do gain seems to take forever to drop. And, it truly is harder to maintain my weight compared to when I was younger and could get away with eating Oreos all day long without any scale damage. The pitfalls of being in your 30's. This site motivates me to keep working out and to try and eat wisely.

I saw that show and I couldn't believe she said that either. That's totally bad PR because not every one of her clients walking in is going to be a "twig." She could be turning away some very wealthy clients who might just be above average in weight. Her attitude was just very snotty. |

I know you love your mom but this is one time you can tune her out. If you love them jeans then wear 'em. She might be just jealous that she can't rock them like you can. I'm 37 and I probably shouldn't wear skinny jeans but just like you I LOVE them. My hips are not the smallest but I wear them anyways because they make me feel good. Point here is to just wear them with confidence regardless of what other people say. |

Maybe there is an issue with your thyroid? If your thyroid is underactive it can result in weight gain. Then again, it could be muscle gain. Or maybe even some medication you've recently been taking that maybe causing the gain. You may not think so, but I think you look great. You have these long elegant, limbs. I envy you really. |

Slow and steady weight loss can be frustrating but it'll be worth it. Then you can say "in your face" to the hubby when you flaunt what your momma gave you! |

I've learned never to run on an incline. Ever. I don't get it, why not?
I think running on an incline actually built my calf muscles. That's why I won't do it anymore. Regular walking has helped me keep the muscle tone. But every body is different and their calves may react differently to certain exercises. I just tend to build bigger calves with running. I have a tape measure and I use it to measure my calves now and then. With water weight it goes up half an inch. With regular weight gain, a full inch up. I truly envy girls with nice slim calves. |

I feel your pain with the calves. But yes, I think that as you lose weight they may shrink. I used to weigh 117 pounds and ran every day on the treadmill. I stopped the running but am now down to 113 and have lost an inch and a half on the calves. I've learned never to run on an incline. Ever. |
