I am tossing around a couple of ideas, but my favourite so far is dressing up "sick as a dog" - wear a bathrobe, have kleenex's and cough medicine sticking out of the pockets, thermometer in your mouth and add dog ears, nose and tail. |

Whenever somebody tries to push food on me (which seems to come from everywhere - except my husband who offers to eat food in another room so I don't have to watch - LOL), I always use the same line - it usually gets a laugh but also gets the point across. "No thanks, I'm allergic to too many calories". |

| The Lounge | When should girls be allowed to get their eyebrows waxed? | Sep 04 2009 01:42 (UTC) |

I told my daughter she could shave her legs as soon as hair appeared under her arms and she needed to shave that. She is 13 in December and has been shaving her legs with no problems since around her 12th birthday. I just talked to her about doing it properly. Now, with respect to her eyebrows, I actually MADE her let me pluck away her unibrow the other day...almost had to physically hold her down...kind of went like this....pluck....ouch.....giggle, giggle, giggle, pluck....ouch......giggle, giggle, giggle. She admitted to me after I was done that she had wanted to ask me to do it but was too scared it would hurt! Now she has two bushy eyebrows, not one. If only she would sit still for longer than 5 minutes I could shape them too! (Edit: to clarify when she started shaving) |

I am a paralegal!! (legal clerk, legal assistant - there are various names we get called, but I will only list the nice ones! LOL). I've (sadly) worked in the same law firm for the last 17 years (yikes!) in the litigation department and work for 6 different lawyers. I am in Canada so it probably isn't as fun as it would be if I worked in the US! Some crazy |

| Health & Support | Is it okay to have a cheating day once a week? | Jul 25 2009 20:04 (UTC) |

Original Post by rsbritt: I always have a day that I bump my calories up (over maintenance) and have had the same great results - I've lost 32 lbs in the last 3 months with no plateauing. I believe it keeps my metabolism guessing too. The next day I usually eat what CC recommends (1200) and then bump it back up to between 1400 - 1500 for the rest of the week (and include little treats now and then during the week - a couple of Werther's candies, a popsicle, an ice cream sandwich, but stay within my calorie range). Really, I think it just depends on the person and how their metabolsim reacts. And there is nothing wrong with it as long as you view it as a treat and get right back on the wagon after. If you are a person that once you eat something crappy, you can't stop, than probably a bad idea! |

Original Post by amiblue24: I hear you there ....I live in Ontario, Canada and it is almost impossible to find anything that fits properly or is flattering over a size 12....no idea why, but it is just the way it is! If you live in the US I only have 2 words for you -- Dress Barn. I have actually made a few trips across the border just so I could go shopping there....I swear I have never tried anything on that was a size 16 that didn't fit me perfectly...the first time I went I spent almost $800 (I could hear my credit card crying on the way home LOL) And then had to pay $75 of duty on top of it because I was honest about how much I had spent (I lie horribly LOL). I don't know if this will make you feel better or worse, but my youngest just turned 10 -- and my body looks nothing like it did before I had babies. When I get down about it, I just think of what an amazing thing my body did by creating those beautiful babies and if the stretch marks and wider hips and butt are the only price I have to pay for them, than I consider myself lucky |

First of all, quit being so hard on yourself (hugs). They say it takes a year for your body to get back to normal functioning. Focus on taking care of yourself - give yourself a manicure, do your hair, put make up on even if you aren't going to leave the house, take a nap and catch up on some of your sleep. The little things add up....and as much as you don't want to get out of the sweats and buy something bigger you need to....the sweats are just making it worse when you look in the mirror. Buy a nice summer sundress (not a frumpy, no shape one though!)- it is cool, it is flattering and it hides a lot of bulges and bumps - looking pretty, despite weighing too much, will make you feel a lot better about yourself. You didn't mention how many calories you are eating when you are trying to lose. Also, are you breast feeding? I found that despite what everybody says about the weight "just falling off" when you breast feed, my body was completely stubborn and just refused to give up 1 oz. P.S. - I had a colicky baby too - not fun! |

| The Lounge | I can't sleep with my husband!! (RANT) | Jul 07 2009 23:51 (UTC) |

Original Post by flybee: Flybee, we do pretty much the same thing, only I am always cold and my husband is always hot. He sleeps with just a sheet (twin) and I have a sheet (twin) and two twin size blankets. I have a big, thick queen size down duvet that I just throw over them when I make the bed (the key word being "when" LOL). The other suggestion I might make (I don't think anybody else has suggested it) is one of those travel sleep masks - you know the ones you always see Divas wearing in the movies? My husband likes to read when I want to go to sleep too, and that makes it so he can keep his bedside lamp on and it is completely dark for me. My husband is the one that snores (he has a CPAP but found that when he went back for a follow up sleep study that it didn't make any difference in his sleep patterns, so he doesn't bother to use it now) and he is the one that always jokingly suggests that I would sleep better if I slept somewhere else - because he wants the big comfortable bed to himself! I am not so crazy to ever fall for it though! |

Huh, weird, I never would have thought angel food cake would have done that! Blueberries are usually helpful for me, as well as kidney beans/black beans/chick peas - which I have an awesome interchangeable salad recipe for, so they are easy to fit in. BTW, if you have never had prune juice before, don't - it is DISGUSTING! And I will eat pretty much everything! LOL I find that whole prunes are much better tasting and work just as well. |

I never thought - I probably could have stapled her to death if I had enough staples. LOL First I thought about cutting the brake line on her car, but alas, I have no idea where the brake line even is. Then I thought about putting rat poison in the office coffee pot, but I didn't really want to end up killing my boss and thereby cut off my source of income. Thought about cutting her phone line and jimmying her office door so that it locked and she couldn't get out and she would starve to death (I'm not the only one that wouldn't go looking for her) but her head is so big she could live off of it for years. Electricution would be satisfying, but too quick....she needs to suffer. Thought about asking if I could borrow her scissors and if she would bring them to my desk because it was an emergency, and then putting wire across the door so she trips and lands on them...but that's too messy, they would have to replace the carpet and that would cost too much money, lowering the chance I would get a decent raise this year. And then, by the end of the day, I was to the point I thought a good old fashioned strangling would be good enough!!

You can freeze tomatoes but they are mushy when you unthaw them - but perfect for adding to homemade pasta sauce! I have accidentally frozen cucumbers before when they get shoved to the back of the fridge - definately wouldn't recommend that! Gross! I use whole wheat flour all the time - but keep white flour on hand as well. 100% whole wheat works fine in things like pancakes or to coat anything, but for breads/cakes etc. use 50% whole wheat, 50% white - otherwise you will be eating bricks!! |

I hear you completely!! I spent the day fantasizing about different ways I could "off" the new lawyer -- I have worked there 18 yrs, she has been there 8 months but I apparently don't know anything (I'm a lowly legal assistant). It's a good thing I didn't have access to anything more dangerous than my stapler today |

You may want to consider NOT substituting soy milk for cow's milk. My daughter was also allergic to the cow's milk I was drinking when I nursed her (she was collicky and slept through the night for the first time the day after I stopped drinking milk) and the advice I received (from one of the top children's hospitals in London, Ontario where she was also born 6 weeks early) was to avoid soy milk as well -- if they are allergic to cow's milk, soy milk is a bad choice - it is an allergen and they can easily develop allergies to it as well. I was told rice milk was a good choice - watery but I got used to it after awhile. Other things we were told to do was to get rid of all the carpet in our house, get rid of all stuffed animals, get rid of pets (yes, we had to give our dog away) and mini blinds are a huge no-no - curtains can be washed regularly, mini blinds are dust magnets. We were also told to install central air to limit her exposure to the outside allergens in the spring. We were told that because she developed an allergy so early (around 6 weeks), the more she was exposed to allergens (soy, dust, pollen, nuts, etc.) the more likely she was to develop additional allergies and eventually asthma which she would probably have her entire life. We followed all of the recommendations for the first 5 or 6 years of her life and gradually exposed her to the allergens we were told to avoid to see if she had any reactions - and today she is a happy, healthy 12 year old with absolutely no allergies - including both cow's and soy milk and we have a dog again!! I did have a list of the recommendations at one point (there were more I don't remember) but it has been 12 years - you may be able to find something online. Just thought I would share our experience. |

If it makes you feel any better about crating her for longer periods of time, apparently dogs don't have a sense of time passing - you being gone 10 minutes or being gone an hour is all the same to them...exactly why they are just as excited to see you when you get back from running to the store as they are when you have been at work all day. |

tmoakley11 - Did you put your numbers into CC and see what it said? I think with the changes they recently made they are way off base -- I went from a recommended 1500 calories a day down to 1200 when it changed (I was 215 lbs or so when it changed) - yet I was rapidly losing weight eating 1500 calories (more than the recommended 2lbs a week) - I agree with everybody, despite what any program recommends, 1200 is way too few calories - especially when you are just beginning. Sure way to crash and burn before you even get anywhere - and who wants to be STARVING all day long??? |

I wish somebody would notice and say something!! I've lost 18 lbs and nobody has said a word, despite the fact that my clothes are basically hanging off of me and I constantly have to pull my pants up! LOL At work the other day one of the girls even said something to me about how she thought another woman had lost weight - despite the fact that when I really looked at her to see if I thought she had, I couldn't see any difference!! So frustrating!!! |

A HUGE party sized pizza for my son's birthday party tonight, 2 lbs of strawberries, baby romaine, orange and yellow bell peppers, cucumbers, baby carrots, brocolli that I should eat soon, celery, 3 bags of Granny Smith apples (they were on sale for $1), red apples for my daughter who doesn't like green apples, a canteloupe (yuck), left over cabbage roll stir fry, dill pickles, pickled vegetables, eggs, regular cheese, light cheese, laughing cough cheese, sliced ham, sliced turkey, about 6 different varieties of mustard (no idea why), a jug of strawberry Cool Aid for the birthday party (not a regular drink in our house - I make my kids drink soy milk or water!), at least 6 bottles of different light salad dressings, a Dove chocolate bar (up high where the kids can't see) that I eat 1 square of a day, a HUGE Costco size jar of minced garlic, 2 bottles of half used ketchup, low fat sugar free yogurt, olives, condiments of every description, Aloe juice, Almonds, Cashews, a couple of bottles of beer, soy milk, chocolate soy milk and a jar of salsa of unknown age.... When we had to buy a new fridge, we bought the biggest one we could find! |

I have days like that too, where I just want to eat everything in sight...I try to ignore it and eat as usual. I think (just my opinion, no science behind it that I know of) that those "hungry" days my body is using a lot of fat as fuel, so it turns up my hunger to make me eat more to counteract that - it sure doesn't want to give up an ounce if it doesn't have to. I find that the day after a "hungry" day is when I am usually down a lb or two. |
