Just be careful with lunges... if you do them incorrectly, you can wreck your knees. And I know, as a soccer player, that you cannot do optimal running with bad knees. |

Haha thank you, thank you. I feel that teen writers have a lot to offer... this is one of the most emotional stages of our lives after all. I took a look at some of your poems, I really liked "Almost Won". If you wanted to get feedback from other writers, I'd suggest posting on fictionpress.com www.fictionpress.com/~laurenthriller ^ that would be mine. |

I'm 17, 5'0. 100 is a much more healthy goal. And yes, I understand you want to take your ballet into account, but please hear me out. I've seen a lot of ballerinas. You guys are absolutely JACKED. It's going to be extremely hard to get down to your goal weight because you are extremely muscular. From what I understand, you need a lot of muscle to be really good at dance. You cannot maintain this muscle if you just desperately try to lose weight. I've had to do this for soccer. |

| Young Calorie Counters | i don't have my period anymore | Jul 07 2009 03:22 (UTC) |

I am not an expert on the human body, but I went through what you are going through. When I was really *dieting* in the winter of my sophomore year, I was eating about 1500 - 1600 calories and working my butt off everyday. I stopped getting my period, and didn't get it for about 4 months (and the only reason I got it back was because I basically had a mental breakdown and started eating terribly high calories). It freaked me out at first, but I came to love it too. I talked to my friend about it. She eats like a PIG, but she runs track year round and plays soccer, so she's constantly burning everything off. She doesn't get her period very often as a result. It happens because our bodies know that we don't have enough calories in our system to support having a baby. Is that a NATURAL/HEALTHY thing? No. But will it kill you? I don't think so. You can consult a doctor, but I can tell you I got mine back, and when I got it and talked about it, EVERYONE on this board at the time said "You're fine, it's normal." I doubt you're gonna explode, and I doubt you'll lose the ability to babymake. I'd suggest eating maybe another 100 - 200 calories, or more, depending on exactly how much you undereat. Please eat enough to support your body you can live healthily. If you starve yourself, yeah, you can do a lot of damage to your body. But if you're just not eating a ton, and you lose your period as a side result, I don't think it's gonna do too much damage. Remember, I'm not an expert though, I'm just a teen girl who didn't undereat and still lost her period. |

| Young Calorie Counters | 1200 calories a day? | Feb 14 2009 00:22 (UTC) |
4 |
I don't recommend eating 1200 calories a day. That's how much your body needs to survive if you do nothing but lay down still all day. If you're working out, going to school, walking around, it's probably better that you eat only 1500. Maybe even more, if you work out a lot that day. If you eat too little, your body will plateau and not lose weight. |

YOU decide how good it will be. YOU decide if you get into trouble or not. YOU decide how your grades will be. YOU decide who you meet and when. It's all up to you. My advice is to get involved. Some of it is just dumb luck though. High schools been a rollercoaster from me. It's had it's highs (I was the happiest I ever was at some points) and its lows (I've come close to suicide). But it's up to you. Good luck, and try to have fun and see the good in these years. We're still young, and we have to enjoy it. |

| Young Calorie Counters | O, McDonalds, why do you tempt me so? | Jul 12 2008 01:14 (UTC) |
6 |
Yeah McDonald's isn't that good for you. But don't be afraid to treat yourself once in a while. A treat won't kill you, even if its McDonalds. It's just a matter of controlling yourself, making up for it with a little excercise or a salad for dinner, and not turning it into a weekly habit. |

| Young Calorie Counters | am I doing the right thing? | Jul 09 2008 14:33 (UTC) |

1250 calories would be healthy if you were a short grown adult that did nothing but literally lay down all day. And I mean physically, literally just lay down on their couch all day and only moved to use the TV remote or scratch themselves. Since you're still growing (I'm 16, and yes we're still growing) you have to try and get more calories. Try and aim for at least 1400-1500 (I don't believe in 1800 calories a day for a teen, really). And if you're going to excercise 45 minutes a day, depending on the intensity (are we saying running 8mph in the blazing sun or playing the Wii fit?) you should eat more calories. |

I read Twilight a year and a half ago. It kinda got ruined when every teen girl realized how much it's their passion and how much they love love love Edward Cullen and this and that and the other thing. I loved it a lot more when it was my own personal thing I could enjoy on my own. But that's how it works for everything, I suppose. |

| Young Calorie Counters | For those of us who ACTUALLY NEED to lose weight | Jul 09 2008 01:04 (UTC) |

I, like many others, are annoyed with the "OMGZ I ate a carrot im going to get teh fat", but I feel bad with people who seriously hate their body so much that they starve themselves to death. It is a disorder, just like depression (which I myself posess, before anyone jumps on me for calling it a disorder) or OCD. However, the way you make it sound is pretty unfair, because you're calling out several people who are healthy, but want to lose a couple pounds. I'm within a "healthy" range, but I would like to lose 5 or ten pounds to tone up. I think you need to understand that. I can see where you're coming from and see why you're angry, but tone it down a bit =) EDIT - whoops, just saw your other post. I'm glad you saw how big of a trigger you pulled, and it's okay. I can understand where your frustration comes from. |

400 calories? That didn't really even phase me. I was only off 100 anyways lol. But yeah, I guess I should keep it as more of a treat then if they're not the best for you. If they are 400 calories though it wouldn't surprise me, they're surprisingly filling lol. But thank you, I'll make sure to watch out! |

| Young Calorie Counters | Peanut Butter | Jul 06 2008 03:55 (UTC) |
|
Peanut butters fine, as long as you watch how much you have. If anyones freaked about having too much peanut butter, I have a suggestion. Let's say you would normally use 2 tablespoons on a sandwhich. Microwave one tablespoon so it spreads more easily and covers the whole sandwhich. There you go. |

| Young Calorie Counters | My daughter... | Jul 04 2008 00:08 (UTC) |

I won't lie, I really wished my parents hadn't allowed me to eat so much garbage when I was little. I'm 16 now. I don't think it's necessary to impose a diet and excercise regime on this girl yet, it could lead to an eating disorder either. And I'm sorry that you grew up being the "fat girl" and the pain it caused you, and I'm proud that you are taking action and don't want your daughter to go through the same painful times. In my opinion, it's best not to really make any mention of eating healthy foods suddenly. Kids will freak out when you say "No more of this" suddenly and "More of this" suddenly. They don't know, they're kids. Puberty is tough, but it's extremely important that you eat healthy during puberty, as it sets the bar for how healthy you can be when you grow up. I suggest just having healthy alternatives, and building on it slowly. For one night, have some fresh fruit for dessert and not cookies. For another, have non-breaded chicken instead of hamburgers. Kids are stubborn, but try and have her taste things on her own. If you give it to her at a natural and steady pace, eating healthy will come natural to her. As for excercise, maybe you can try and interest her in joining a rec league for sports? If she has a friend who places soccer, why not suggest she join her friend and play soccer too? Maybe try a little miracle called Dance Dance Revolution, if you have a gaming system. Go biking or walking with her. Anything helps. Every little bit will help.

I was rooting for Holland. UGH. I'm glad Turkey's out though. It was fun to watch an underdog, but the second their GK actually had the balls to punch that guy in the face, I lost interest in them. I'm a GK, Idk how you can be provoked into doing that. But, *ahem*, if it's Germany vs. Russia in the final, I'm pulling for Germany, but if its Germany vs. Spain, I'm rooting for Spain. |
