Me too stephanie. My husband and I are looking to start trying around May.

I would like to lose about 3 kg more before we start... i think that's about 7 pounds or so?

Have you guys got any other tips for preparing for pregnancy? I know about the vitamins - I'll start taking those around february.

Thanks.

nope, my husbands an aussie too, but we can still qualify for the bonus.

We live in the country in shiga prefecture, so there's not a lot of choice or options to choose from, and our japanese language ability is not fantastic... so there will be lots of challanges i'm sure!

I am a small-ish frame so I hope I will do well to keep my weight gain at the lower end, as long as baby is healthy though, i'm not too worried.

Thanks, that's really great info! Anyone else have any other ideas?

I've been looking up info on birthing in japan. I was suprised to read the maximum weight gain recommended by doctors is only 7.5kg - 9kg! wow.. compared with the wests 15kg it's a big difference. They seem quite strict on this and one of my friends was harrassed each checkup by the nurse about her diet (which was perfect) because they thought she had gained too much.

Birthing is done lying flat on bed, no walking around and in most places no husbands allowed. No drugs are available either. Hospital stay after birth is minimum 5 days.

All these things sounds so different than the west! It's good to think about them now and be able to prepare myself for a different culture for my birth.
