Hi mumsey, I'm with you.  (I'm in the 150s so I looking for that 149!!!!!!)

Hopefully by 1 Mar, which is only what 4 days away.  (current 151.8)

Im afraid to weigh in today because weekend was a splurge.

Do you think we could lose 1.5 lbs by next monday?

Right now, I'm off to yoga, maybe that will help.

Hi there, thanks for responding.  I'm right there with you.  No matter how many days of exercise, or how much I eat the scale won't move!!  I too have cut back thinking that eventually it would have to move.

New trick I saw on tv is this new diet claim.  (I usually don't fall into the fad diets, however...  the flat belly diet claims that by adding a MUFA (monounsaturated fat) to each meal, that body will metabolize and you will lose weight, especially in the tummy.  Can't hurt so I am giving it a try.

Monounsaturated fats: EVOO, flaxseed oil, peanut oil, fish oil etc.  i.e. the good oils.  Of course watch what you eat, and do this for a few day.  Give it a try and let me know if it works.  I too am trying it for 1 week.

Hi Betty and welcome back.  A vacation is sometimes the mental jump start that we all need to get through the winter.  About the MUFAs.  Apparently the editors of Prevention magazine wrote a book called flat belly diet.  These 2 women are making the talk show circuit.  The claim and reported that their research is supported by the USDA and other gov research.  They say that  by adding a MUFA (i.e., evoo, or flaxseed oil, fish oil, sunflower oil, etc.) to each meal, that it actually helps with the digestive process and helps the body to get rid of "belly fat".  Apparently the oils are most helpful if actually part of the meal.

So what the heck.  I'll give it a try and see if it makes a difference, can't hurt!!  I actually take some of these oils some of the time anyway for cardio.  I'll let  you all know the results.  According to those who testified, reported positive results after only 4 days.

Have a wonderful day.  It snowed here today.

I just saw a special on flat belly diet today, where if you just add a MUFA (monounsaturated fatty acid) to your diet during each meal that you will loose weight and especially in the belly area.
It is supposed to be supported by USDA research.
Any thougohts anyone???  Has anyone tried it and does it work???

Hi folks, I haven't been posting for about 1.5 weeks and so much has happened.  I was inspired by Liz' challenge to lose 5lbs by 1 Mar that I was determined no matter how may calories I cut back.  Well I finally lost 2.5 lbs and was thrilled, because that is the first time in months that I saw the scale move in the negative direction.  Today was a bit of a set back as yesterday I had a slice of pizza and the scale reflected a gain of 1.5 lbs.  So back to the drawing board.  Its strange to look at the scale and see between the middle and the upper half of 10 point and be sad yet if it is in the middle to lower have of the 10 point then to be thrilled.  (i.e., 145-150 not as great as 140 to 144)  Anyway thinking back to Liz' personal challenge, and 12 days to go!  Good luck to those who try.

Liz, I'm right there with you at the frustration point.   I can't seem to drop even a pound.  I did discover part of my problem today is in "hidden calories".  Those that I didn't think about so much such as the calories in salad dressing.  I eat at least 1 salad daily, and put ranch dressing on it.  While the veggies are great, the dressing adds at least 150-200 calories (depending on the brand of dressing).  I was mentally adding about 70-100 calories for dressing.  Another downfall for me is feta cheese and parmesean cheese.  Again I didn't realize how a little amount mounts up the calories.  So that could be why my scale isn't moving.  Regardless when it doesn't move we (I) get frustrated.  Im glad you vented.  You just expressed what I have been feeling for weeks.!!

Thanks so much for the advise and the web site.  I still think that I am way under the calorie count.  I think at some point my body will "get it" and start to actually use some of the fat it has stored away.  (I think I could go for quite a while!)  However I do get hungry during the day and do need to eat something.  Yesterday and today it has been a can of soup for lunch, and scrampled eggs for dinner.

I would blame things on the scales rationalizing that they must be broke, but I went to 3 different scales!  Things have to get better at some point.  Thanks for the encouragement.

Hi there, I have been out of the loop for about 1.5 weeks, and things have gone poorly.  I have continued to eat @ 1100-1200 calories again, and continue to exercise.  I even too the advise of "leaving a little on the plate", but have mysteriously gained about 4.5 lbs.  I think my body might be in that "starvation mode" and be eating whenever, even though I am attempting to avoid carbs and fat.   So that is my situation.  Back to square one!!!

thanks for the comments and the explain of the food challenge.  I understand the challenge is probably over soon, but re: portions, I think I will give it a try.

I think that portion size might be part of my problems.  Although lately I have actually been measuring and trying hard to cut back, but I do eat everythin on my plate!!

Hi, I am also new and looking for that extra support.  I'm 54, and need to lose 20-25.  Last yr had a massive heart attack, and stopped smoking.  Gained bunch of weight that won't go away.  I am eating less and less each day, exercising and nothing seems to work.  I hope the advise of you and others will help.
