HI girls,

I thought I'd drop in cause I was thinking of you all.  I kinda just stopped doing the board thing. Sorry that I was away.  I'm not even sure I'm invited to this board anymore because I'm gonna be doing the opposite of this board, gaining weight and NOT drinking---

FINALLY we got pregnant! Yay! I'm only 7 weeks but I already feel fat. I haven't gained any weight (well maybe my boobs!) but it sure feels like it!

So just thought I would share.  I hope all of you are well. Wendy, I cannot believe you've lost 56 lbs! That is truly remarkable!

Anyways, hope you all are well!

Hi Jo,

I think I would like something free-standing so it can block off the fence. The dog tends to run full speed into the fence while chasing squirrels.  But it needs to be dense so you can't see through the foliage.  I dont' care about colors---flowers blooming most of the year  (if possible) would be nice.  Our lows here are probably 40 degrees and highs low 90's (except of rare occasions). Very mild in other words.

Thanks a million!!

JO--any suggestions on other plants to grow to cover the fence?

Wendy--I think your regime is great. I sometimes think about eating less on days after I've been bad, but the easiest for me to skip is breakfast...however if I skip it, it throws the whole day off.   I really need to get better about this. I guess making lasagna and oatmeal cookies last night didn't help much. Hmmm.

Christie--nice story!! There are lots of haunted plantations out your way. I wonder why??? The only other place I've heard of as many hauntings is the Boston area. I guess California is still too young to have ghosts yet. Give us 100 years!

Maria--Are you alive?

HI Jo,

Thanks for the tips on Oleander.  I can't believe you can't get it in Atlanta!! They are a dime a dozen here---they are most popular along the freeways even here!!haha.   I've heard they are poisonous also, but I haven't heard of any deaths either. I would be concerned about my dog, but he doesn't really pay attention to the plants.    As for the grevillias--are they tall enough to block my fence? That is the main purpose...I need a huge privacy bush with pretty flowers.  I don't think I've ever seen grevellias...I'll let you know if I do next time I go to the nursery.

As for diet and exercise--my bum is still sore from our bike ride on Sunday. I did some good treadmill work yesterday and then some yoga---man I've never slept so well!!!

Wendy--I'm just wondering, you have been losing weight steadily for months now....are you still on 1200 calories a day?  Do you ever or did you ever find yourself just starving, or is this a new lifestyle for you?  What was the biggest change you made to lose weight. You are our inspiration so get up on  your podium and tell us how it's done!!!

Ok you all have a good day.

HI everyone,

Sounds like we all had a nice weekend. Jo--great work on the garden. I take great pride in mine, but I get so frustrated with all the upkeep.  Do you have any suggestions for a bush that will cover up a fence? We were thinking oleander, but I'm still not convinced.

Wendy, were you at the cottage this weekend or did you permit yourself some at home badness? haha

As for me, we had a HUGE freakish heat way Thurs-Sat. It was 106 (42 i think Wendy) and since we are used to 78 in the summer, no one has A/C. It was so miserable. In fact, we even pitched the tent in the backyard and slept out there on Friday and Sat.  Other than that we had my niece's baptism which we are Godparents--yay!  And we FINALLY did some exercise---it's been at least 1.5 months if not more!!! We rode our bikes about 20miles and then went for a good walk afterwards. I felt soo great (today my butt does not feel great).  I even brought work out clothes to work. Let's see how motivated I really am!!

OK keep up with the good work and Christie, we are all jealous of your cruise! How fun!

Wendy---you sound just like me!!! Umm pate, we ate our weight's worth while in Spain Yum! I think it's illegal here in liberal California. I'd never tried it till I went to spain. And I'm with you about more wine when you get home!! The party's just getting started!!! WOOHOOOO!

Have a great weekend!

Wow Maria, You rock!!! I'm so proud that you got out there in spite of the slight chance of seeing a slug! woohoo!  70 minutes is AWESOME for cardio. Way to go!!!

Christie,  I Forgot to answer your question about where they got the crawfish from last weekend.  I guess it's a cool little story. These guys who live right by the delta to the San francisco bay were sitting around talking about what to do with all these crawdad's they kept finding in the delta. This guy from LA overheard them and said cook em!  And he helped them get the rig and all, and the rest is history! it was a pretty big festival--50k people. My dad was so excited so we all went for Father's day. About a 2.5 hour trip each way.   Let me just say that a small box of crawfish was $15. My dad said it was about the size of a hamburger. And he got the large box which was $20 for about 20 crawfish. He was so outraged.   my husband got some crab plate and I got a small bowl of jambalaya--$10 each. Needless to say we were outraged and will never go again.   I think the highlight of my dad's day was talking to two guys for 5 minutes from LSU. Our crawfish is good later in the season because it doesn't get hot here until much much later.
On another note, please tell what all you made for Slade's friend so I can salivate!

As for my hubby's swimmers---he's AOK!!! I told him and he started running around singing MACHO MACHO MAN!!! what a goof ball!

OK have a great day!

Christie, I am so happy for you and Sloane! What a great mom you are!!  I'm also so glad that the police took this so seriously...let's just see if the kid's mom does too!

Sue--Thanks so much for the trying to conceive encouragement. So as for the test I was supposed to have done today--I can't because (TMI alert) I'm still spotting...so we'll just wait for next month. Luckily, the insurance called and said they'd pay for it! woohooo!!  I've been trying to stay calm about it but for me it's REALLY hard to put out of my mind completely...I dont' see my real doc (i've been seeing her backup while she was on maternity leave) until July 8th so maybe I'll be like you and put it out of mind till then!

How's the eating right going for everyone? I've been trying, but not very well. I did yoga on Monday and it was great---hoping to get back into it tonight also. We'll see.

Have a great day everyone!

Man, this conversation is grossing me out. But I do have one to add. I had a rat problem in my garage for awhile. I was extremely grossed out by this. Especially since they were HUGE!  Each night, I'd have my dog run in like the swat team to make sure the area was clear before I would go in to do the laundry. Then I started to leave poison out for them, which seemed to be working well. Anyways, I don't know if I had thought they'd all been killed off or if I just forgot due to some wine I'd been drinking, but at one point, I went into the garage with bare feet to put something in the car (omg, my body is writhing in disgust just typing this) and I *ALMOST* stepped (like my foot was 1cm away from stepping) on a rat who was dying and didn't have the quickest reflexes to run away. I was SOOO freaked out, I ran back in and have been traumatized ever since.

Ok, as for the swimmers, we get the results today or tomorrow. I hope all is well. After I posted on Friday about all my tests, the dr's office called to tell me that my procedure (seeing if tubes are clear and open) may not be covered by insurance and I would possibly have to pay $880, just to see if I am ok. I was so sad.  I've searched high and low on my insurance and it seems like it may be covered, but I'll just keep my fingers crossed.

As for trying to stay in shape--last night we started yoga. First, we went for a walk to get warmed up and then did about 1/3 of a yoga tape--let's just say we should have started with the beginner tape! we were totally sweating and said, well that's enough for now.  I just felt bad for my poor husband because he's never done yoga before and can't touch his toes as it is!!!

ok kids, talk more later.
PS Wendy, LOVE LOVE LOVE the new pics. How svelt you look!

Good morning all!  Interesting that we are talking about Gyno's because I actually just got back from a visit this morning. I, unlike Fertile Myrtle Christie, am not getting pregnant very easily!! So he recommended all kinds of tests---check to see if the tubes are open, continue to monitor that my progesterone is at a good level, and we're checking hubby's swimmers on Monday. So we'll see.

As far as working out, I'm still coughing a little and have sinus troubles so I just dont' want to push it.  i literally have no muscle in  my body after being out of the loop for so long.

Jo--don't be discouraged about not losing weight while working out. I worked out pretty hard from Jan-Apr including lots of weights. I barely lost anything!! Once I stopped everything is when i realized how much I had really lost, because once my muscle withered away I had really lost some lbs of fat. :) so keep it up

Maria--I was just thinking about running this morning. I am not a fan of running in the heat so running usually gets put on hold in the summer in lieu of biking. But I guess everything in general is on hold at this point!

Wendy--Of course you ask "why run?" ! Who needs to run when you are shedding weight like no tomorrow!

As for Sue, wasn't she the one who said you can find out so much about someone via the internet---I say we try to get the belly dancing video!!

So as for me, this weekend we are going to a crawfish (oops I think they call it Crawdad here) festival this weekend for father's day. Should be interesting to see how Californians eat crawfish. Hopefully we can buy frozen ones and bring them home!

Christie, I saw lafayette on tv again---it was a commerical about a Jobs Corps. Apparently they did some work there. I was looking for you but to no avail!

Ok gals, keep up the good conversation and have a great weekend!!!

Good morning ladies. Well, I am back at work, feeling a little better. We'll see how long I last, I'm still pretty weak.

How did everyone do this weekend as far as eating? As for me, due to this little week of being sick, i lost 5lbs!!  I know it's not the best way to do it, but a pound is a pound! i'm hoping to start eating healthier, like soups for lunch, etc. I also saw a sign in my doctor's office that you should never eat more than 6 ounces of protein a day. I was so surprised because I usually eat more!

Christie, I'm so glad your kids are having a good time (including some good ole bickering) being together.

Talk to you all later.

Good morning all!  Jo, I think you will kick start our conversations again. About 1000 posts ago, we used to be pretty chatty. I think we all just got busy, and I for one at least kinda put the weight loss on hold. But I'm trying to get back on the wagon. Especially since I have a wedding at the end of the month and I am NOT buying a fatter dress to go to it, and I don't want to look like a sausage in the dress I plan on wearing!

As for my illness, I feel way better today. Still feel rotten, but I think yesterday was the low point.  Hooray!! I have a super formal dinner party tomorrow (fondue!!) that we made reservations for a month in advance, so I'm hoping we don't have to miss it.

I can't imagine how that AA party will be. And I am pretty surprised that your friend got sober even though her party was still drinking. well congrats to your friend and have a great time!!

Christie, It will be so great to have all the kids home again!! When was the last time you saw Slade?

Wendy, as usual you are amazing. 45lbs!!! my best friend has been shedding weight like there is no tomorrow for 2 YEARS and I think she's only lost 45lbs!  You rock! How did you get the motivation and determination to do this?  You are inspiring!

OK all for me, I took some more cough medicine with codeine so good night for now!!

HI gals,

I thought I'd chime back in on this...

I definitely believe stress has something to do with our ovulation and ability to conceive. After 6/7 months of charting and peeing on a stick (Fertility monitor), this month I have just tried not to think about it, and we BD when we want, not when we get a peak signal.  We'll see what happens.

On another note, from all the charting, I realized that I too, have a short luteal phase. I've been taking vitamins to help lengthen it, but I'm not sure how well they have been working. On Monday, I'm going to get some blood work done for once and for all to determine what's going on.

CMAMA-- how did you find how you had LTD?  Did you doctor diagnose you and what did they prescribe?

Thanks!!

HI GALS,

I'm still hanging in here. I haven't left my bed since Monday. I am feeling pretty guilty about ditching work, but really...I cannot function!

My bronchitis gets progressively worse each day. I called the doctor again and said the antibiotics aren't working and she gave me some cough medicine with codeine...sooo I may be out for the rest of the day!

Other than that, I've just been eating tons of soup--low calories!  We'll see if something good comes out of this sickness!!

Wendy, I thought of you yesterday cause I saw a "house hunters-International" program (where they help a family find a new home) that was set just outside of Manchester in a place called something like Albare or something. I am only sure of the first letter!   I remembered that there is nothing cuter in the world that a child with a british accent!! It's so sweet!!! Mum, would you like to have a go?---Love it!!

Haha, you gals are funny!!

Welcome Joanna! I'm 30, married, and no kids yet, living in California, near San Francisco.  As for weight loss, I lost about 8 lbs since January, and then gained a couple back. I'm back on the wagon now and am really trying to take eating properly (and drinking less!) very seriously.

I'm sure you'll find that every so often someone drops in preaching to us about drinking...and the thing is, we don't want to quit!! We just are all trying to reel it in a bit.

So please feel free to chime in whenever!!

On a different note, Maria--I was cracking up the other day. I was in the lounge reading around on different posts, and I love reading yours!   You really seem to get people thinking--and sometimes they don't seem to appreciate it too much!! I just said to myself: that's our Maria!!

OK back to bed.

See ya!

Maria--Happy Belated Birthday!! Sounds like you had such a nice time!!!

Christie, Where does your son live? And how old?  That will be so nice to have him home. Is your whole family on the eating right track or just you? Have they lost any weight?  P.s. You say you are stuck at 20lbs, but every time you weigh yourself, you've lost another 2 or 3!!

As for me, alcohol killed me this weekend. I brought back a slight cold from Spain. I was just getting over it when we got back here. Well, friday night we went to a nightclub where my friend's band was playing. I wasn't drinking but my girlfriends quickly convinced me that gran marnier would be just the answer to get over my illness.  Well, I sipped two shot glasses. It felt fine at the time. Well, the next night we had one of my good buddies' weddings. Let's just say, I am at home in bed with full blown bronchitis now. SUCKS! I guess I overdid it! Well, at least I have no appetite so maybe I'll lose some of those pounds I gained in Spain!!!

Hope you all are having a better day than me!!

Take care

I backpacked for three months in 2005. I came back in the BEST shape of my life. Of course I love hiking and tried to hike every day. But that is not necessary. Carrying your backpack makes you unbelievably strong, not to mention, you'll walk everywhere.   And living on a budget forces you to eat cheaply (i.e. not at restaurants every day).  I recommend hitting up the grocery stores and make yourself a sandwich or buying fruit. Also, some hostels (like in Germany) provide free breakfast of meats, cheeses and breads. To me, that is not very appetizing for breakfast, so i just packed as much as I could in a little napkin and ate it later on in the day.   For me, I ate as much as I could of the free stuff so I wouldn't have to pay later. You will not gain weight. I was traveling with one girl who lost 30 lbs!

Don't worry about working out. It's not necessary. You'll walk at least 3-4 miles per day, even if you don't hike.   This will be such a wonderful experience for you. I met my now husband on my trip. In San Sebastian, Spain. It wasn't even on my itinerary, but some girls told me that the town was gorgeous.  You should definitely try to go!!!

OK enough--have a blast! Let me know if you have any other questions!

Where are you going on your cruise? You may have said already, but I am too lazy to go back and look.

MY mom told me next year the whole family is going to Alaska on a cruise and she's paying! WOOHOO!  But she's asked me to look up all the info. I don't even know where to start? Are some liners better than others?

I figured Maria may know something about this cause we'll be departing from Vancouver, in her stomping grounds....

Hi gals! I'm Back!!  Had a great time on vacation. Let me just say it was more of a gastronomic tour than anything else!  Typical Spanish lunch has three courses and dinner is usually light. However, since we had dinners and lunches with everyone my husband has ever known, it was more of a celebration, and both lunch and dinner had 5 courses each...every day!!  Needless to say, I gained plenty!!

But now, I'm back on track. No more drinking until 4th of July, which just so happens to be 40 days.  And oops, we have 2 weddings to go to in that time, which of course are exceptions!  Also, in an attempt to not have to buy a new fat dress for the weddings, I'm cutting the calories too. Let's hope I can stick with it.

Christie, please let us know how your baby is doing. What a horrifying experience!!

As for me, we leave tomorrow at 330PM for 18 glorious days! I get back on Memorial Day, May 26th.  I couldn't be more stressed. I am trying to get the whole remodel finished, while packing and trying to get ready! UGHHHH!

OK talk to you all soon!

Hey Wendy, I think the British are so funny when it comes to weather...one of my friends came out to California during one of our "heat waves" and he claimed he almost died. It was 32 C=90F.  And Just for everyone else's info, the 24C that Wendy is saying is warm is 75.2F. To me, that is ideal!!!! Just do not ever go visit Christie... you might really melt!!

I also thought it was funny because my auntie and uncle came to visit us and they RAN into the pacific ocean with no problem.  Mind you that ocean, especially where we live is 58F=14C.  I frankly prefer cooler weather to hotter, but that is just ridiculous!

As for me, I am finding working extremely hard these days with only 3 days left till our Spain trip. And not to mention, my boss just quit. I just can't be bothered to do anything!!! Except eat of course. Cinco de Mayo was especially cruel for me. Or i should say, i was to myself.

Today I went to get a pedicure to apparently reward myself for my glutenous behavior! AY!!

Anyways, Jennie I am so proud of obstaining from alcohol for so long!! If only i had your strength!!

Take care everyone!

I'm here! Just swamped!!!  So our kitchen is finished (more or less--the final touch will be done tomorrow)! It looks fab! I am so pleased! Well, then we moved every last bit of furniture from the house into the kitchen and garage so we can strip the carpet. (There are wood floors underneath.) It's a very easy job but wear gloves!! I went to the doctor today for a tetanus shot--got stuck with too many nails and staples. Then today, the painter came over to scrape the popcorn off our ceilings and re-texture the ceiling. So the floor refinishers need to come wednesday or thursday and finish up before next Friday (our trip!). And while we're gone, the painter will do his magic!! Unfortunately, we will have nowhere to sleep when we get back from Europe as all of our furniture is in the garage!!

On another note, my lovely husband sent out an email to his brother and best friend saying "if you want anything from the USA, mail it to our house before we leave and we'll bring it for ya" SO, his best friend bought a few things (including golf clubs.....) and sent it to our house. However, despite our email about sending it to our house, the brother sends a link of the exact computer he wants at a local store. Ok fine, i went and picked it up. Then he sent an email with 9 vinyl records that he wants. Again, can't he just mail them to our house. Then, he sent an email saying his girlfriend wants a MacBook pro. Can we find it and buy it. ummm? First of all this is $2000 but she also wants a spanish keyboard and operating system and how do i know where the best deal is?  So hubby writes back saying please send a link of the exact model that you want. So the brother sends a link with 3 choices. This cheapie is making us buy it so he doesn't have to pay shipping. THENNNN, and this broke the camel's back. He sent an email with 4 pictures of shoes that his roommate wants...can we find them. So hubby is writing an email now saying look, after buying our flights and a new kitchen and not even being refunded our hawaii tickets yet, our credit card is maxed out (even though it isn't). If you want something, send it to our house. GRRRR

Then to rub salt in the wounds, this girl we HATE has ordered a diaper bag off of ebay and is having it sent to our house. What do I look like Overstock.com?

ok sorry for the vent.

miss you gals!

Christie, I think you are totally right. I have been thinking the same thing about our group. Of course I dont' know for sure, but it seems that aside from Wendy and Jennie, we have lost focus! Well I really shouldn't speak for everyone, but i know I have. I used to go to the gym almost every day. This week it will be MAYBE once, if I actually motivate. Sure I have the excuse of remodeling the house, but come on....it's just an excuse! We need to get back on the wagon!!

Any suggestions gladly accepted!

HI Gals,

I got of BCP in November and have been charting/temping and trying to figure out when my O day is!! After a couple months miscalculating, we finally got it right!! So in total about 5 months, but correctly calculated about 3.  Still not preggy, so we'll see. It makes me feel better about the average being 6 months. Let's hope next month is the one for us!
