solowit - yeah - that is what I thought about being over 40.  You wouldn't expect it from someone in that age group & the whole thing about how dare she put her hands on me!  The bike riding thing is because she said the bumps are not good and then when I said you get more bumps from riding in a car, she said that it is because on a bike you are "open".  lmao!  I ride my bike alot, btw - so just another slam to me.  Her doctor - supposedly - and I don't believe it - told her this is what causes bladders to drop in females.  I think she wants to put women back to the 1920s!

OMG that is so unreal, I come from the Netherlands and well, cycling and Netherlands are pretty much synonyms, I mean check this link, that is about the average sight you see at each and every train station in our country!
That would according to your sisters doctor mean that pretty much each and every female has dropped bladder there, well surprise surprise.....NOPE (well I guess that was not very surprising, hahahaaa) tsk, unreal!

I think you are about to make a very relieving decision and break with your sister, I tell you you will feel so much lighter (hey it might even show up on the scale!!)
I btw always have to laugh when people do that something schmomething-thing, watergirl, you made me laugh so hard, indeed, sister schmister!

This little place called the Dutch Oven in Clarksdale MS, run by Mennonites. They make like the BEST pies ever and they have soups to DIE for.............well actually it is really a very very good thing I live about 700 miles away from that place, they definitely don't fit into my eating pattern!

The Lounge Does an engagement really need a ring? Jun 19 2009

My whole wedding, engagement, ring and everything together has cost us a total of about $100,- / $150,- (and yes that includes a dress, LOL)(ok besides that the most costs went into getting a green card and me moving from the netherlands to the USA)
I had our rings made by a friend and I delivered the silver for it (which was given to me long ago by another friend) they are just two simple bands, nothing fancy, but that is who we are.
There has never ever been anybody making remarks about the fact I don't have a diamond in my ring, or asking who payed for it or making remarks about the fact it is not gold, nor does anybody think me or my husband are bums, or maybe there are people that do, but they are not the people who matter to us.
I think the whole thing is symbolic anyway, it's about us loving each other and committing to one another......that's just my 0.02

If 2000 calories is to maintain your weight, than eating 2500 will make you gain, but slower than when you would eat 3000 calories, only eating less than your maintain, so less than 2000 calories, will make you lose weight.

I don't have a sister to compare, but like most others said it's not worth it, for me it most definitely would end right at the moment she shoved me, indeed really? That most surely is stuff kids do, not a 40+ year old!
Well you did actually already decide that anyway, it is not worth dealing with it just because she is family, toxic is toxic, no family connection changes that!

Also: I just can't get over that "won't ride a bike because claims that gyno told her the bumps were bad for women to be "open" while hitting the bumps"-thing.....I'd really like to know about that LOL, what do they claim happens?
Maybe I should stop riding my bike? (just to be clear: I am being sarcastic LOL)

Foods anyone tried the miracle noodles (calorie free)? Jun 14 2009

Miracle noodle is a brand name, instead ask for shirataki noodles in the asian store and they will probably DO know what you are talking about :-) There is indeed a version with and without tofu.
Personally I don't really like them in Italian style dishes, to me they taste too Asian, hehe, but that's just me. So I mostly make curry or stir fry dishes with them, they are yum and super guilt free!
Like momthenurse said make sure to reaaaaally rinse them well, they have a fishy smell when you open the package, this is not a sign of them going bad.

Even if I would not have been eating lower calorie I would still prepare 2 different meals for me and my husband, this is solely because he is a very picky eater and I eat way more vegetables for example than he does, it does not bother me at all, he does eat healthy, but let's say his repertoire is just very small, haha, too small for me!

As lunaropal already suggested: for cardio walking/running/biking are good options.
I went for a little vacation just a week ago and my body pump teacher wrote me up some good exercises to keep on track, the only thing I needed was a pair of handweights, here goes:

SQUATS (hold weights on shoulders):
- 20 reps w/feet hip-width apart
- 20 reps w/feet wider, toes turned out
- 20 pulses
- 20 squats w/leg lift (as you come up from the squat, lift your leg out to
 the side, alternating legs.

CHEST (flat on your back, hold weights over the middle of your chest):
bench press:
- 20 presses and 20 high pulses, 20 more presses and 20 low pulses. Take a quick break to stretch and then repeat.
push-ups:
- 3 sets of 10

BACK:
one arm row: bend over (knees bent), put one hand on your thigh for support, hold weight in the other hand and pull your arm up, elbow going straight back (does that make sense?). Do 10 reps on each side, repeat 3 times.

TRICEPS:
- kickbacks: 10 reps, 10 pulses on each side. Repeat 3 times
- dips: 20 reps. Repeat 3 times.
- behind the neck press/overhead press: 10 reps. Repeat 3 times.

BICEPS:
- curls: 20 reps, 20 pulses. Repeat 3 times.
- hammer curls: 20 reps, 20 pulses. Repeat 3 times.

LUNGES:
- put the weights on your shoulders. 20 reps, 20 pulses on each side.
 Repeat 3 times.

SHOULDERS:
- rear delt raise (on one knee, lean over): 10 singles, 10 up quick, down
 slow, 10 more singles.
- side raise: 10 singles, 10 up quick, down slow, 10 more singles.
- front raise: alternate arms, 10 reps on each arm. Repeat 3 times.
- overhead press: 10 reps, 10 up quick, down slow, 10 more reps.

ABS:
- crunches - LOTS of them !!! Go for 100 reps.
- oblique crunches: cross one leg over, opposite shoulder to knee. 25 reps
 on each side.
- heal drops -knees up at 90 degree angle, flex feet and lower your heals
toward the floor. Keep your lower back pushing down toward the floor. Go
 for 25 reps - SLOWLY.

Same here, I make mine from scratch too (LOL and also add cumin or smoked paprika, funny) I mostly leave out the olive oil, so it is even a bit less in calories, you don't really miss the oil tastewise, because the rest of the ingredients stand out very much anyway (garlic and such), it's a yummie snack for sure!

Weight Loss Question to the happy owners of Go Wear Fit/Bodybugg Jun 02 2009
00:47 (UTC)

I have the GWF and found I was, like I actually already expected, burning more than CC told me initially, hence the plateau I was on since practically 'forever', CC tells me I should eat slightly more than 1700. I am 43 years old, 5'5'', 172 lbs and work out 5-6 days a week (so had my settings at moderately active) I found though that with all the work in home and my job that I do, I actually burn closer to 3000 a day and so have to eat around 2000-2200 to not have too big of a deficit. I ended up setting my activity to very active, then it tells me to eat 1977 cals a day. (and even that would not be enough on a couple of days a week)
I finally started to lose weight again too !!! So I concluded that my GWF was actually a real life saver and worth each and every penny!

[edit] forgot to say my goal weight is 150 lbs

Foods Ideas for leftover bagels Jun 01 2009

Cut the bagels in cubes, total of 4 cups, add 1 cup applesauce, beat half a cup egg beaters with 2 cups skim milk, 1/3 cup of sugar (or use splenda instead) 1 tsp vanilla, 1 tsp cinnamon and half a tsp of nutmeg. Pour over the bread and leave standing for 10 minutes. Preheat the oven to 350F, bake pudding about 50 minutes.
Using the bagels, applesauce, milk and egg beaters amounts as a base, you can always make variations, make it savory by using cheese and spices/herbs, or add raisins, apples, banana etc.

For me the measuring and weighing is a second nature, I don't see it as a burden or chore, it is just something I do.
I can totally see me do this for the rest of my life, sad thing is: I know myself, and I know I can not let myself roam free when it comes to eating, maybe that is a sad thing *shrug* but I am better off acknowledging this and acting accordingly than trying to ignore it and well, seeing the results of that in no time, hehe.

What the others already told you: you are doing a great job to begin with! Besides that I think first of all: you are saying you upped your exercise, this sometimes can result in having a little stall in your weight loss because of muscles retaining water for restoration purposes. Also what can be happening is that your body is taking a little rest from losing weight and might be changing in measurements, that's why it is always a really good plan to besides weighing also measure yourself :-)
Hope this lessens your worries a bit more.

Fitness Workout beginner... FRUSTRATED! Any advice? May 16 2009

I don't think by the way that shred has a beginner level, only a beginING level, heh
And especially when you are going to work out on a regular base you will most definitely not gain on 2000 cals.

Weight Loss drinking water? May 16 2009

It's the 8 oz cups, so you were right (and you can slap that around your husbands ears, LOL)
Try making your water easier to drink; what I do for example is add a little juice to a big bottle (about a cup or so of 'no sugar added' orange or cranberry for example) and fill up with water and sip on that all day, makes it taste a bit less 'watery'
Or you can add a few slices of lemon or lime.....things like that.

I am so happy to see this thread !!!
I actually even learned one thing: I am not supposed to use the word ain't, I honestly did not know that!
So I must be making more mistakes like that!
I hereby apologize for each and every one of them!
BUT I do have a good excuse; I am Dutch and on top of that (to make it even harder, LOL) I live in Texas, so that does not really help either.
There have been so many occasions posts made me cringe and some of them I just ignore, if there are too many mistakes I just get too irritated to even reply! (and then I am not even talking about the txt msg typing, I don't even finish their first sentence)
So even though English is my second language, I am definitely a grammar nazi!
They do exist !!

Only hopping in to tell you caverlady that looking at what you say you do for work outs, I would set the lvl at very active on phord.
Especially when you do some housekeeping and such besides that daily, you can bet you are more towards very active.
I wear a gowearfit and found out trough it that I was way more active than I thought and actually had been under eating for quite some time already, this, together with my one day a week 'pig out day' (I call it my swine day now, hehehe) resulted in an endless plateau (a serious one) I am now on the way down again after adjusting my intake, weehooo!
So try setting it to very active and see what it tells you then :-)

[edit] to say that I think a lot of people under estimate the amount of calories burned while housekeeping and doing groceries and such, the so called N.E.A.T. (Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis)

Original Post by notalone:

soliwit,

did you have feelings for him still when you dumped him?  did you miss him?

I am so sorry I did not react any sooner!

Yes I did miss him and I did still, and somehow even still do, love him, BUT I was also seeing very clearly that our relationship was doing neither me nor him any good.

He was like your guy, very good at making me feel guilty for the things that happened, same as what your guy says, "I was ok until you made it a problem", oh my, he was a star in turning stuff around even so that I was in the end the one that apologized and questioning myself for being such a bitch, can you imagine!
I had lived walking on tiptoes for so long and only realized how much this had weighed down on me after I ended our relationship.
Yes we had wonderful times, but they did not in any way weigh up against the hurt.
It is very weird how it works, but you don't really see how much when you are still in the middle of it all, you question each and every possibility until you see that the only way is OUT.

I felt really alone when I ended it all and missed him, but also felt how the world was opening up for me and was full of promises.
It was even so freeing that when after about three weeks he was at my door all teared up and such and saying how sorry he was, I invited him in and explained to him that he was not even really missing ME, but the relationship, my taking care of him and being available whenever he wanted, it would not have mattered who it was with, but I was NOT going to be the one anymore and I was really sorry but he would get over it and I sent him on.

I met my now husband about 2 years after that (and that was in 2000), he has finally gotten together with someone new about 2 years ago......and I think that was part of me being with him for so long, I KNEW I was not in the right spot, but I also knew that when I would leave him he would be alone and I felt sorry for him.

I don't know if you have made a decision yet, but I so hope that all our stories and support will help you make the right step!!! And I truly think that step should be OUT!

(((HUG)))

Weight Loss cheat days? May 11 2009

Klee, you are 16 years old (or not yet even ?), your burn is going to be about that if you would have just walked around a litlle, so taking that work out in consideration, you still ate with a deficit, believe me! I would not consider that day a cheat day at all.
