Weight Loss 7 pounds off by Christmas! Nov 12 2008

Original Post by cubedjohn:

Can you define ziz zagging calories? I've not heard of that term!

Zig zagging is where you calculate an entire weeks worth of calories and change it up from day to day so you have high calories and low calories but at the end of the week, its the same amount as if you ate consistently everyday.

So on Monday you would eat 1800 and tuesday maybe 1200 and wednesday 1450 or something like that.

If you go to

http://www.freedieting.com/tools/calorie_calc ulator.htm

it calculates a whole weeks work schedule for you based on your stats.

I am going to start swimming 2X a week and then working out (cardio or weight training or yoga?) 2 other times a week.

I eat healthy... its just those damn munchies from 7-bedtime. I am moving back in with my boyfriend (I'm away at university until Friday) and when I am living with him I dont eat so much... but our dinners tend to be heavier because he is focused on weight GAIN.

I am a teacher so its not very hard to keep my calories down during the day because I never have time to eat! Its just at night... but if I start swimming at night, that will take up my time where I cant eat!

What is everyone else's fitness goals?

Oh ya, I'm at 145 and my goal is 130 (but not by Christmas...)

I'm really happy! I got back down to 144.5 last week and I only gained 1.5 lbs over the Thanksgiving Weekend!! And I think it'll just drop off this week because I am on my period so I'll loose a little when I come off of it!

I am eating really healthy. I have LOTS of turkey noodle soup from the leftover turkey so I am going to eat lots of that which is super low cal but satisfying and I have lots of yummy recipes planned for this week!

Yay! I love when I feel good and back on track!

No I don't EVER weigh myself at night but I did that once.

I havent been calorie counting butI'm doing a new thing (sounds weird and funny but...) ONLY eating when I'm hungry. I rate my hungry on a scale of 1-10 and when I get to a 4-6 I eat something.

I know we should all do that but I have been just eating on a schedule so I've changed to this and I havent calorie counted and I've lost like a pound in a couple days... It's going pretty good. I think I am going to combine that with calorie counting too though.

How is everyone?!

My week is going to be CRAZY but my short goal from mon-thurs I will work out at least twice, hopefully 4 times! But my goal is 2!

Lets everyone make a short term, weekly goal for themselves!! Let us know what they are...

I got something...

I stepped on the scale last night and it was 151!!!! OH MY GOD! I am freaking out!

But it was the night and I had just had some pasta... I am so mad :-( but lots is happening with mid-terms and my boyfriends dad is in the hospital so its been really crazy.
I am doing really good today though. I decided to cut my calories WAY back to drop fast back down to where I was then I'll pick it up again. I know its unhealthy to really cut but I really have no time for the gym so I am going to cut to make up the loss...

I think it depends how long you go to the gym for. When I was pumping iron, I hated going to the gym because it took forever but now I just go for a quick cardio (30-60 mins depends on how I'm feeling) and then do yoga at home.

Actaully, I hate going to the gym, I dont love it but I just remember how good I feel afterwards and I really dont even think about going or not. I look at it as brushing my teeth, just something I have to do. It's not a question of whether I want to or not, because I HAVE to.

I also think of the long term goal I have... I really want to get looking good for teaching, I have really great teaching clothes that I want to fit into... but if I skip the gym too often or up my calories, that wont be possible. If I think that its only 30 minutes today for a great goal in 2 months, it seems more achievable and worth it.

That's pretty thin! I think we have the same frame and I am shooting for 130.

I think I am going to take a short term goal approach. I am going to think about how much I have going on and what is a reasonable goal for the week in weight loss.

This week, I am going to say I want to be at 144 by Thursday. I think if I actaully make a goal to reach in the short term, I'll think about it more and try to reach it rather than "I'm going to lose 15 lbs."

So by Thursday I will be down to 144. Then next week I can reassess. I am not going to say "3 lbs a week" or anything like that, I am going to take it week by week. If I know its going to be a crazy week, I'll shoot lower but I will always have a lower goal in mind! Let's see how this works!

Today is Monday and Thursday is weigh in day... do we want to make weigh in day Thursday still? Are we still going to do weigh ins? I want to!

I just got done at the gym and I am really proud of myself because I did my entire HIIT work out. I decided to do that for my cardio. I read that it is the "key" to fat loss... I dont know but what everyone says is right! I only did a 20 minutes work out (the HIIT part was only 13 minutes!) but I felt like I did an entire 60-minute cardio session. Have you guys heard of HIIT?

I am 5'4'' and and the scale is actaully not as bad as I thought. Today it was at 146.6 which is better than the 149 I thought it had got up to.I want to get down to 130 but if I was 125 I would be ecstatic!

I havent over indulged in 2 days, I am right on my calories. You know whats crazy. For me to loose weight, all I have to do it not over do my calories. I dont even have to work that hard except to reach 1500 and not go over. Its just like I get to 1500 at about 7 or 8 o clock and then I am up studying until around 11 and just want to eat more.

My school is going great. I only have class until 1 on Tues and Thursday and I have 2 classes on Mon and Wed but one is 4-6 so I stay in the library and study until my 4 o clock class so its really great. And I dont have class on Fridays! It's wonderful!

There is a super bitch that lives in the basement suite and long story short, me and my roommates are now moving! So thats a little stressful but not until Nov 1.

I start my teaching practicum Nov 14th! So I will be moving back to my boyfriends house about 4 hours from my university. I am excited to get back to living together and teaching is going to be excited!

Laura, it seems likes its just a lower carb diet? And seems like it might be not enough calories? But she I would love to take a look at it! My email address is sta_ceyq@hotmail.com.

It frusterating when you know everything that everyone is telling you, you just dont want to do it haha. BUT Laura, you will be happy to know that I just discovered Tomato and Onion flavored tuna! 80 calories a can and I had it for dinner with some wheat thins and melted some cheese on top... YUM! I worked out today and I am at 1502 calories!!! Yay for me. I think I am just going to drink lots tonight so I stay away from calories. I am going to cook some chicken for dinner tomorrow and really do good... doesn't it always go that way? fall off the wagon and then get right back into it full swing! Love it!

Thanks for all your advice... I just dont have a big appetite for healthy food these days. Pizza and macaroni sound great! I just dont buy it anymore...

I am eating pretty good today AND got back to the gym.

I dont really like tuna that much... but I think I'll grab some and eat it... just plain?? I like it on crackers or something but I dont know if I could choke it down plain. I also HATE choking food down just because its healthy because then I don't feel full.

I dont have any problems with planning and cooking. I am thinking of starting it up again. I always pack my lunch the night before because I am too cheap to buy food on campus so I ALWAYS have food with me. It's not a problem until I go home. It's the nights and the weekends. But I think if I made an actual, full sized dinner instead of snacking all night, I would feel fuller and more satisfied.

What diet are you on? Whats it all about?

I am doing horrible... I had maccaronin the last 2 days, school is getting crazy so I haven't worked out since Thursday. I feel aweful and I am back up to 148 lbs! I was at 144... I am super sad. I don't know what to do... I am trying but I'm just hungry and lazy and love snacking....

Help me! What can I do to loose the weight? Specific daily goals? I think the main thing is getting off zigzagging for a bit and just eating around 1400 cals a day and start working out again.

What else? What an a university student do to keep it healthy and cheap? I do like to cook but I tend to want to just eat when I get back from school, not cook so much. I guess I should just get back into cooking.

I think we (the 4 of us that are left) should all focus on each member of the group for at least one post and post any suggestions that we have for that person.

What does everyone think? How about Laura goes first? She seems like she is the least motivated and sturuggling.

So Laura post everything that you can to help us help you. Your weaknesses, your strengths, your typical day, your favorite food, your favorite weakness, everything you can think up of and then we will each post a whole helping post?

I think that we have been just coming on here and venting but we haven't really be HELPING each other succeed. I think this would be a good way to get back to helping each other and really getting on track.

Not really. I am doing pretty bad with the whole eating deal. I would say about... 70% of my day is good. Then it goes to **** at night time. I am doing good working out though! Everyday because I'm back in university where the gym is free and right on campus, so there really isn't any excusses since I'm on campus everyday.

Rachel, I think maybe we should just stay here and be in this group and do our thing with or without the rest of the girls? If they pop in... I guess they do but if they don't. We'll still be on our way... what do you think?

I am doing the SELF magazine 4 week goal and I was wondering if anyone wants to do it with me? You just have to go to self.com and click on a goal. There are 4 to choose from, I am doing the "lose 8 pounds" goal. It's 3 cardio workouts and 3 strength training workouts a week. I think its going to be really good.

I am going to look at the eating plan but my eating is pretty great and I am going to shave down my zig-zag calories so its the same if I was eating 1600 a day or 11 200 a week. Anyone?

I just did one of the cardio workouts. It was only 26 minutes and it really was good!!

Ya, I think that we should just continue to act like a group. If people are MIA, the people who are around, can still communicate and keep it up. I guess if the other check in now and then its better than nothing.

I agree that we dont really have a plan or a timeline, we are just kind of whatevering through it. I think maybe we should get some goals and times going on? I do feel like I can just check up with you guys and say my pitfalls and positive things but the group really isn't DOING anything to make me keep on track you know?

How about those weekly goals? haha... they never happened. I am going to try to get back to the gym and eat on target for the next week. I am going back to where my boyfriend and family is for a big party this weekend so I hope to stay on goal. Maybe you guys could help me with a specific goal for that night? There will be dessert, beef on a bun and I am sure chips and stuff. I want to endulge but keep it within reason. If I specific things that I should stay to then I will... any suggestions?

Hey! Sorry. I was moving back to university. The move went great in all aspects except my nutrition but I am back on the boat today! I had my first day back today and my eating is going really great. Also, I moved into a place that has an eliptical trainer in front of the TV!! So I am going to be on that a lot.

I am disappointed in us! Where are all of you?!?!

Hope everyone's great!

So I posted without reading everyone previous posts and feel like a complete tool!

I am so sorry that everyone is having a hard time! But really, it's just weight! I hate to think that we are overly compulsive and not having a good time with our lives and being so obsessive. It's really not the end of the world if we get caught up in parties and life. Aren't you going to be happier that you had a good time instead of not having a good time because you are too concentrated on not eating those nacho's. But also, we can have fun and be part of it all without over indulging.

I think we need to really not get down on ourselves and just continue to be mindful but continue to enjoy life without guilt!!!

Happy ThursdaY!!!

Hey pretty ladies!!

I am really excited becasue like I said before, I'm not restricting myself too much the last week of me in my hometown. I am going to get back on track on Tuesday when I get back to Edmonton and University. BUT!!!

I weighed myself this morning and I am the same as last week!! YAY!!!!

Beginning: 150 lbs

Last week: 144 lbs

Today: 144 lbs

Also, 2 weeks at the same weight means that the 144 lbs wasn't some freak weigh-in! So i'm excited!! Yay!

Ya, I am going to start good on Tuesday I think. I am moving 4 hours away from my current house back to University for the year! I am really excited!

I said to my boyfriend last night that I am going to be eating healthy and mindfully like I always do but for the next week I am going to just do whatever I want. I eat mindfully throughout the day always but I am having a girlfriend over for wine and pizza tomorrow and last night my boyfriend and I went out for a nice dinner, also on Friday all of my friends are going out as a going away party. So I am going to be good but really let loose when those occasions come. I think that it's fine.

Once I'm in Edmonton I am really going to get on the straight and narrow because I will be only buying food for me and my schedule is going to be great with lots of workout time! I love school because there is real schedule and normality and my summer job has been all over the place with shift work.

Anyways, that's where I am at. I am excited for weigh in day!! Hope everyone is giving it all they got!Smile

Ya Rachel if you are interested in zig-zagging freedieting.com is the best place to go for the information. You just plug in your age, height, weight etc. and it spits out a daily calorie goal for you. It's really good. I like it lots! And like Catherine was saying, its the best because if you really screw up one day, you just change the rest of your days to equal your weekly calorie goal. So it gives you more breathing room. You should try it!

Ya, basically zig zagging is the same amount of calories at the end of the week as I would eat if I was at a constant calories amount, like say I ate 1600 calories a day, I would be eating 11 200 calories a week. But in zig-zagging, I eat 11 200 calories a week but sometimes I eat 1200 and sometimes I eat 1800 but at the end of the week, it still equals the weekly calorie amount.

I really like it because I get to have super high days like 1800 and then I'll just have low days. Apparently, its really good because it keeps your metabolism guessing instead of getting stalled at 1600 calories a day. I think it's a good system, I like it. It's really not that much planning, I have it as a journal on my profile and just check how much I'm going to be eating that day. It's not that much different, just cut a snack or something and then you've lowered your calories. The hardest thing is the high calorie days, it's really hard to get it up to 1800 when you eat really low cal foods haha.

I was actually wondering what everyone here had lost, if we could post just pounds lost since we've started this group, it would help me out a lot. I am just wondering if I am losing faster or lower than a majority here. I don't want to compare or have a competition, I just want to know if zig-zagging is really helping me get to my goal any faster. I've lost 6 pounds thus far. Everyone else?

Ya, I think every Monday one of us or a bunch of us can figure out a weekly goal. That sounds really good and a little bit like what everyone needs! It sounds like we are falling off a little but its okay. That's what we are all here for, to come back to and not let each other fall into a fatty rut right?!

So this Monday Catherine is thinking more water? I can't really do that goal because I would kill myself with water haha but I think it's really great to people who are not already drink as much as they should. Also, unplanned exercise is a great one to keep up. I haven't worked out in like 3 days because I have been doing lots of things, bank appointments, etc on my lunch breaks so... I've been laking there.

Also, I had my cheat treat yesterday with my boyfriend... we went to dairy queen and I had a large cookie dough blizzard. I don't know what I was thinking getting a large it was so gross, we both felt so sick after 1/4 of the damned thing! But throughout the night, I finished it (gross!) and it was an INSANE amount of calories!!! So my calories rang in at about 2200 yesterday!!! Oh well though, that's what cheating is for, getting it outta your system. I didn't cheat AT ALL throughout the week so I felt okay about last night. But I don't want to keep the whole weekend of cheating because it took me 2 weeks to overcome my last weekend binge! And I just got down to 144! I don't wanna ruin it!

Mondays goals:

More water and more unplanned exercise? How about some examples of what we could do thats unplanned exercise? I would like more ideas that "take a walk" I am moving next Monday! So packing is definitely some extra unplanned exercise!

Anyways, I work this weekend so I'm happy because my calories are always right on when I'm at work!

What do people think about this zigzaging thing I'm doing? I've lost 6 pounds since we've started this group... what have other people lost? Is it the right way to go? Thoughts? Opinions?
