Thanks for all the posts on Eat To Live diet. I have the book at home, and totally forgot about it. I am starting that tomorrow now! I really liked Treebyleaf's reason of doing it as a "mental-reset of what a healthy diet looks like". Great description.
I need to lose about 10-15 pounds by the end of June for a trip to Italy, where I will NOT be eating doing the Eat to Live plan, but will be a great plan for both before and after.
Thanks again for the reminder about that book! Best of luck to you all!! |

People are always posting recipes for black bean burgers. We made some a few weeks ago, and they were awesome!! In fact, maybe I'll make them again tonight. Just do a search in this forum, and they'll come up. There's always pasta, with some pesto and grilled veggies.
Stuffed red bell peppers with quinoa is always awesome. |

I rarely have soy milk anymore, I usually have almond milk or rice milk. I like almond milk for the low calories and taste, but I like rice milk because it can be organic. Has anyone seen an organic almond milk brand? |

Original Post by nicole11288: Hey nicole, I wasn't sure if you're vegan or not, but I just wanted you and everyone else know that tempura is not usually supposed to have eggs in it, but I've found some places that do have egg in it, so be careful!! Usually found it out after I ate them..... >:( |

Veggies sprayed with liquid aminos. yum! |

TACOS!!! We went to our favorite veggie restaurant and they had purple potato tacos. They mashed some purple potatoes and left some chunked, and added spices (garlic, cilantro, pretty much what you would add to guacamole, but no avocado) Top it with guacamole, and serve in small grilled corn tortillas, and voila! I know it sounds a little plain, but they're so good. When we made them at home we added lettuce to the tacos and mushrooms to the potatoes. yum! |

Hey smmca, Another challenge after this one would be great!! I'm sorry to say that I'm one of those that haven't been weighing in. It was really bad timing (I know, excuses) and I am kind of having to start over this week, which sucks, because I probably won't make it to my goal, but I'm still going to do what I can, since my goal is actually a week after the 19th! If we could weigh in only once a week, that would be a lot better, I think. I don't want to be discouraged to see little if not no weight change after 3-4 days. It would be better to get bigger differences with once a week weigh ins. Anyways, I would love another challenge. And I would definitely weigh in this time. I'm definitely going to weigh in on Saturday! Thanks! |

Original Post by lysistrata: That video is great. Granted i've only watch about 30 minutes of it, but I can only take about 10 minutes at a time. I'll finish it eventually. I was crying so much. It makes me feel bad for ever eating meat in the past. I loved the similarities they draw about the factory farming and the holocaust. They are right, if you look at it from a "species" or "beings" view, they're exactly the same actions. Crazy. |

| Fitness | Sitting on an exercise ball in the office... does it really work? | Apr 03 2008 19:04 (UTC) |

I totally started asking some of my coworkers what they would think if I brought in that ball and started sitting on it, and they totally laughed at me. But they already think I'm weird, so that's ok. So I read on here that some people sit on it all day, and some only for about an hour. Can people please give feedback of what they did when they first started to use it? I may have to go buy a bigger one since I'm tall, and my desk is set up tal as well. I don't want my arms to hurt like one of the posters in here was complaining about. I'd love to get the chair, maybe I should see if my work will pay for it. My coworker had to have a $700 chair ordered for her since she's short and petite! $100 doesn't sound like so much after that!

| Fitness | Body for Life Weight Routine | Apr 03 2008 18:50 (UTC) |
|
I did Body For Life, and I don't think that it would be any different to split the exercises up. If you wanted to split the cardio part up, then that would be a different story. It makes sense to split them up, in a way, because there are some that would be easier to do at home (abs), whereas the others would be easier to do at a gym. If you wanted to, you could split all the exercises up and go workout 4 times per day, whatever is more convenient. I think the same would go for upper body too. Glad to see that someone is doing Body for Life. I don't follow it completely, but I always do my weight training and cardio in the intervals that I learned from it. I get toned much faster and burn many more calories. |

| Fitness | Slim in6 | Apr 02 2008 21:57 (UTC) |

I'vedone slim in 6 before. It's usually the staple exercise routine when getting ready for wedding season! haha! I never even made it to the Burn it Up routine (it's really hard!), but the Ramp it up is a great workout. I know that people say that there is not a single exercise that takes the weight off of your midsection, and I agree with that, but my midsection was one of the first places I saw fat leave me! That's why I never made it to Burn It Up, because I made my goal with just ramp it up. I don't think that I would do it as a six week plan again, I'm really bored with it, I know the whole DVD by heart and I always talk along with the lady, saying what she's saying when she says it!! I am starting to alternate between swimming and Ramp It Up, or maybe keep it up. Don't be fooled by how easy start it up is. Ramp it up and Burn it up are much much different in time and intensity!! Great exercise program for home, though! Oh, and I never got the supplements. They're no different then what you can buy at the store. If you're eating healthy, then you shouldn't necessarily need supplements anyways. I also don't really agree with their diet plan either, usually fasting isn't very good for you right before starting a new exercise routine. It would be a shame to think that you're getting results from the program when in actuality you may be getting results from not eating anything for a few days! |

| Calorie Count | Analysis Page help!! | Apr 02 2008 19:59 (UTC) |
|
I agree that the grade of an individual food is a good indicator that one should check it out closer. However, a food may have a bad grade for reasons other than fat content. It may have a B or lower because of sugar content, etc. On the flip side, another reason I would want the list to include the individual carb, protein and fat content is so that I can see what items may be higher in certain aspects, such as protein. If all my foods have A's, and I want to know which foods gave me the most protein, so that I can repeat the food in the future, then I would not know what foods to look at based on the grades alone, and would have to resort to checking every single food item and writing it down. That is a good idea to enter in your food before you cook it to see how it will affect your analysis. I will try to start doing this more often. Usually I don't have things planned out that far in advance, and thus would need to look to my past to learn from it in planning on the future. |

| Calorie Count | Why oh why do they do this arhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! | Apr 02 2008 19:49 (UTC) |

I hate that too. They say the amount of calories or whatever per serving, but then fail to mention that there are actually 1.5, or 2 or even 3 servings in what you're eating, except in the nutritional information box on the back! I've seen some products, like gourmet ice cream (Ben & Jerry's, Haagandaz (sp?)) say that they have 5+ servings per container!! So I'll look at it and think, oh great, so I can have one spoonful in order to get the calories per serving!! I saw on a newer bottle of coke that they had two different nutritional information boxes, and one said "Per serving (8 ounces)", and the other one said "In this bottle", or something like that, so it had both so that you didn't have to multiply the per serving info by 1.786735648 or whatever to get the information for that container. Hopefully more companies will start to do that to eliminate the confusion. |

| The Lounge | What made you stay up late last night? | Apr 02 2008 16:00 (UTC) |

I had to watch The Bachelor online last night, it is hilarious. I don't have cable, so I catch up on all the shows online the next day. Then, after that it was catching up on The Hills. Which is really a dumb show. I hate it when before they cut to a different scene or commercial, they have what seems to feel like an eternity of Lauren, Heidi or Audrina just looking at the person they just had a conversation with. It's so annoying! But I always go back for more, tonight it'll be more Hills keeping me up. Wow, I really sound like I'm 12 right now..... too bad I'm an MBA student!! |

haha that's funny, it sure does sound like I get "huffy", but that is not the case. I meant it more in a way of "laying your cards on the table", and after that person has layed their 100 cards on the table, I simply lay my two cards down. And I guess I don't "stare", it's more like a look of "seriously?", and then, oh well, they're choosing to be the jack-hole. And if the person is already laying their stuff down, or the checker is ringing them up as they are laying their stuff down, then it's too late, and that's ok. I'm more talking about when you pretty much get there at the same time, just one second later, and they don't let you go ahead. I think it is an unspoken law, but I guess most people only agree when they're the ones with the few items. |

Some people know this, but it isn't very apparant from the cartoon, but Nana from Peter Pan was a Newfoundland! It was funny because I read an article about a real Newfie that would do chores for their disabled owner. She would put laundry in the washer, start it, put it in the dryer and start it, and pull it out into a basket! It would also put things away, and run errands for her! It was an awesome article!! They are such sweet and gentle beasts. One of the best breeds ever. I plan on getting one once we get a bigger house for 2 dogs. The one in Finding Neverland is soooo cute. I'm surprised that people complain about their smell when they're wet, when there are so many dogs that have a distinct and disgusting smell when they're dry too: Black labs, yellow labs, boxers, pit bulls, and almost all dogs with shorter hair and dander. Yuck, I hate petting them and then you can feel the grime left on your hand. |

This one is the WORST!!
When I see someone with one or two things and I have a lot, I always let them go first. They could be done before I even unload my grocery cart onto the conveyor belt!! It's like an unspoken law that you should let someone go ahead of you if you have a bunch of stuff and they have only a few things. It bugs me soooo bad!! It gets to the point when if people don't offer to let me go first, I'll start playing with my one or two things just to show them that I have next to nothing to buy. Or I'll wait until they have unloaded their whole cart onto the belt, and with great purpose, I'll set my two things down behind theirs, while staring at them. Usually that's enough to send the message, but there are always those people who completely don't get it, or they do, and they just choose to be so selfish and self involved to waste your time needlessly. |

Yah, I was saving my giftcards to Bloomingdale's for two reasons. First because I don't want to buy an expensive pair of jeans until I will look good in them and get the size that I want to get, and second because everything is so expensive there that when I got my first $50 giftcard there, I wanted something more than a pair of socks, so I had to ask for more and save them all for something bigger!! haha! They are going to be my "skinny" jeans that I'm going to always try to fit into, and use that as a measurement of if I'm falling off the wagon and gaining weight back. I'm not going to spend all that money to yoyo back to my original weight!! |

Well, great... that helped..... kind of.... Thanks for the posts, but what I was asking about is the e-book "The Truth About Six Pack Abs", not about getting six pack abs, and not about what you do to cover belly fat instead of getting rid of it. I know that the title talks about six pack abs, but that isn't necessarily the only reason to read it. It says that it has a lot of information about different cardio techniques to burn fat faster, and different strength training techniques to build muscle. So, if anyone can comment back about the real topic, I would greatly appreciate it! |

I'll be back for the next weigh in! Thanks for starting this challenge! 3/29- 150- surprise no, change from sw on Wednesday. I don't have a digital scale, so I can't count any smaller than whole pounds. Hopefully I'll see a change this Wednesday! 4/2- 149 (-1.0) 4/5- OUt of town and eating bad... no weigh in!! 4/9 4/12 4/15 4/19 Mini goal: massage and facial (It's spa week that week, I think) Main goal: A new pair of jeans/outfit (I've been saving my Bloomingdale's giftcards for the last year for this!!) |

| Vegetarian | Meat in moderation? | Mar 26 2008 14:13 (UTC) |

Why do people think that veg*ns are deprived? People always say to me, "aw, that sucks you can't have that cheese/steak/ice cream/etc", and I have to explain to them that I CAN have that stuff, but I'm choosing not to because I don't like it!! Everyone is free to eat what they want! It's like me saying to someone who doesn't like tomatoes, "aw, that sucks you can't have that salsa/marinara/etc." When they could have it, but they are just choosing not to because they don't like it! |

You get it in both ways. You get the people who are offended, but then you get the people who kind of agree, but won't ever make the change themselves. I think that it's hilarious when I tell people that I'm vegan, and they immediately try to explain how they don't eat "that much" meat, and they go on and on about how they have cut back on the red meat and pork and mainly only eat chicken and fish! I know that every bit counts, but all I hear is "I've cut back on the meat and the meat, and I mainly only eat meat and meat." haha! But it's like people know that meat is bad for them, but they look away and forget about what they've heard and will eat it anyways because it's what is comfortable and convenient for them. Not saying that I don't do that once in a while when I'm eating something that's unhealthy, but it's only once in awhile, not every meal. |

In regards to "changing" your 1-yr old's diet, his or her diet up until this point should be really close to being vegan anyways, unless you bottle fed. But I think at this point, the baby should not be eating meat yet. So this would be really easy, as you can just not introduce any of these foods into the diet. I seriously wish my mom had raised me vegan, or at least vegetarian. How I would love to say that I have never eaten meat in my whole life!! **brighteyes82, didn't you have an article posted in another forum about raising veg*n children? I don't remember where it is, but it is a great article and could probably help cmama right about now. Can you post the link for her here? I'll be looking for it in the meantime too. Thanks!! Edit: Ok, so that wasn't hard to find at all!! Here it is cmama, I'm sure it'll help! http://caloriecount.about.com/forums/post/751 59.html Hope that works, I haven't inserted a link in here yet! |

| Vegetarian | Article : Vegan Infants and Children...What do you think? | Feb 27 2008 20:33 (UTC) |

I would love to raise my kids vegan, and my husband has no problem with this, but I read the story from a teacher or somebody (it could've been a post on here!), about a kid who was raised vegan, and would stay on the outskirts of the other kids eating candy, cake, etc, and when he saw something he could take without anyone looking, he would grab it and go eat it in the corner where no one could see him!! Talk about sad, he's like this little caveman kid stealing the scraps from other kids!! I get so much crap about me being vegan, I don't want my kids to be raised with that harassement all their lives! I'm totally prepared to supply them with alternatives at birthday parties, etc, but I wish that I could just lie to people and tell them that my kids are allergic to animal products, and then they'll be left alone for the most part. I know this is wrong, and I won't do it, but I'm really concerned how they're going to be treated by other kids in the future. I'm just hoping the increase in veg*ns will keep rising, and there will be more kids like mine! Another way this would be better is if I homeschooled my kids, but I'd go crazy, so that's out too. Besides, my husband was homeschooled, and he's a little bit of a freak because of it!! Haha, (only kinda kidding!)! Is there anyone here who is currently raising their kids vegan and have had better experiences then I'm imagining? I just couldn't imagine feeding them dairy, eggs or meat, even if I wanted to! I want the best for them, and that includes the best diet. |

Hellooo... Can anyone say MEAT RECALL!!! I was so excited that I didn't have to worry about the meat recall for myself. I can't say that I wasn't worried for my friends, family or anyone else who eats meat, though. Just a little thing to keep in mind about the recall.... The ONLY reason why they are recalling this meat is because they got CAUGHT!! If there was no video, there'd be no recall. So what's going on at other slaughter houses? The same exact thing, but since there's no video or undercover story, there's no recall on the meat that is sure to includes downed cows. (I only say this because I've had people say that the meat they're eating isn't from Chino, but that's not really the issue!! It's happening at a lot of places!!) |

I forgot to mention this in my previous post, but steponme reminded me. The Skinny Bitch book recommends a lot of soy products. LIke one of their quotes is something like..."These chikn nuggets are so f*ing good you'll do cartwheels in your living room naked!". The best thing to take away from this book is the part where they say to not trust what any body says about food, including themselves. This is the most important part! Research all the food for yourself! When I did that I decided to not include any of the soy fake meat products in my diet. So, although it is an awesome book, they could've gone one step further. Do the research yourself. There's a lot of topics in here debating soy, so start there and go check them out. |

Yay Skinny Bitchers!! My sister moved to LA about 8 months ago and bought the book, when she told me she was going vegan, I told her, "Yah right!! I could never give up meat!!". But we both cut out meat besides seafood and dairy and eggs. Then a month or two later, I read the book, and became vegan. I can't believe how much easier it is then I thought! We've both been vegan for 4 months, but I think we shared a doughnut on christmas day! haha! So that's the only time I cheated, and it wasn't worth it! My dear sister, though, thought that Krab was imitation crab (which it is), but she didn't know that fish was the imitation meat being used! So I had to let her know about that! haha! So at first I was saying that I could never give up meat, and now I'm saying that I could never eat meat (or dairy or eggs, etc)! It's funny how things have changed (for the better)!! Within the first 6 months of starting to cut out animal products and then going vegan, my sister lost 30 pounds!! Amazing! I lost some weight too, but not as drastically as her!! I feel so good though! I know that this is the way I'm going to be eating for a long time! Now I'm following the Eat To Live plan as best as I can, but I really want to get the Skinny Bitch cookbook. Has anyone gotten it? Is it a good cookbook? Let me know! |

So you can log your weight -- which allows you to do the following:
- Plot your weight curve
- Analyze the trend of your weight (see under Recent in the figure above)
- Determine the projected target date (see under Overall in the figure above)
