Vegetarian Who can tell me about Endame? Jan 20 2008

I love edamame even more than I love Oreos!!!  (that's a LOT of love!)

As a snack, I eat them hot (or cold) from the pod.

The shelled beans are great to add to everything.  They are very versatile.

BTW, although I can't seem to find any American grown soy beans, I DO know that they are grown here.  If anyone knows of a source, please let me know.

1 serving of edamame has 38 calories, 1 gram of fat, 11 mg. sodium, 3 grams of carbohydrates (1.5 g dietary fiber and 1 g sugar), and 3 g of protein!!!

Vitamins (Percentage of Daily Allowances): Vitamin A 5%, Vitamin C 5%, Calcium 3%, and Iron 5%.

Aren't they just awesome?

pizza is gross anyway

 I'm not a pizza-lover either.  Tongue out

I don't know what the big deal is about pizza...everyone I know LOVES it (and Chinese food also...blah!).  I have no problem staying away from both.

Oreo anything! I just adore them (especially the regular, original ones).

No Oreo is safe from me, so I NEVER buy them. If I'm really down and I just NEED to have them, I buy the six-pack size, not the huge package (because it won't matter how many I have in front of me--I will eat them all).

For me, Oreos are the food that makes the world a happy place...lol. Kiss

I'm sorry that things are so hard for you :(

I liked the suggestions to talk with your counselor and to seek government assistance. Also, have you asked Rhonda if she would consider hiring you as an au pair. This could be a win/win situation for you both. Just work out a deal so you can attend school.

1). Place to live and food.

2). Watching children you obviously really adore.

3). Living in a less stressful environment.

4). and She has a live-in babysitter that she already knows very well, likes and trusts!

5). An opportunity to save your money while living there.

Living on your own is difficult, especially while you are a student (I speak from experience). Roommates, this situation can be tricky. What if your roommate left? Would you be able to keep your place on your own while you looked for another roommate? If this person is a slow-payer, what is your plan--(you also are on the hook for that)? What if she had different guys overnight (strange ones...lol--and this DID happen to me)--you'd find yourself in the same position of looking for a place to live, BUT with the added pressure of defaulting on a lease (maybe ruining your credit).

Please list and weigh all your options very carefully before making a move. Then outline a plan of action--don't just jump into something.

You are in my prayers sweetie.

Weight Loss prednison weight gain Jan 16 2008
14:05 (UTC)

God, I understand!!!  I am still getting rid of my prednisone weight--it's not all water.

I was on it through the holidays (OMG--too much readily available, high-calorie foods).

That's not the worst for me though; I don't mind having to eat better, nor work out--the hard part is that after the darned flare-up, I have no strength.  I become incredibly weak and I really hate that.  It just makes everything so much harder (I mean, everything as in normal, day-to-day stuff).

I wish you guys the best (and hope your previous flare-up was your last ever).

Jumaolster, I will pray for a speedy and thorough recovery of your cancer.

God Bless You All!  (We need a CURE, not just steroids and medicines with really bad side-effects).

You can try Morton's Lite Salt which is Potassium Cloride, not Sodium Cloride.

That's a great way to cut your sodium--just check with your doctor first, especially if you have any kidney problems.

I know...you really can eat while you study (and thank GOD, because while in school, it's hard to find time to do the things you're supposed to do for yourself).

I would LOVE to see cross-stitch and embroidered blocks!!!

Please PM me anyone who wants to do this (I think it could be fun!).  Also, it will be gratifying to have a warm, soft quilt to reward yourself with for working so hard.

God Bless You All!

Oh, please talk to your mother about your goals and ask if she could help you.  Maybe she could provide healthier things for the whole family, at least for a short time while you begin to learn how to eat healthier.  Your entire family could benefit from this!  Also, you could (gently) let her know that positive reinforcement is much more effective than "yelling".

I just know you can do this!  :)

I have the same problem. I once ate 400g of cashews followed by 200g brazil nuts! The truth is, I think that everyone who likes nuts finds it hard to stop noshing (after all, what harm can just one more little nut do?) They're a good source of healthy oils, so it's best not to give them up completely. I recommend buying them in the shell as they take a lot longer to eat and you can't have more than one at a time (I used to eat them like some people eat popcorn - i.e. in handfuls!). Also, like others've said, count out the amount you're going to eat in advance of actually having them.

One day won't make any real difference. Don't stress.

Yes, count them out first...they are sooooo yummy and addicting, it's tough when there is a huge bowlful in front of you.

It goes either way for me.  Mostly, I will gain due to depression (Oreo cravings and too much sleep, not to mention the decreased desire to dance or go to the gym).

We can motivate each other--just PM me anytime.

OK all you seamstresses I have a question for you. My sister got married on Christmas eve this past year. Her last name is now Beasley, yes that would be Mrs. Beasly. Some of you might remember the Mrs. Beasley doll if not here she is: http://www.backtobasicstoys.com/images/5915.j pg I am wondering if some one can make me an apron that looks close to this. I would want the full kind rather than just the half size. What would you charge me to do that. I will pay for shipping, and the material and labor. If you can find the material.

Something like this: http://www.whatscooking.info/images/ApronWith Name.gif and if you could put Mrs. Beasly on it that would be cool.

You can PM me if you need more information.

Thanks for your help...

Steve

Foods Vitamins taste horrible... Jan 15 2008

If it's really bad, then you may want to try a pill wrap.

Since you take your vitamins with/after meals (so you can absorb the nutrients), try flattening out a small square of cream cheese, place the vitamin on top, then cover the vitamin.  You will taste the cream cheese (yummy! :D )This has worked with my human patients and I've even used it when having to give large pills to my cats.

I just adore sewing. I sew everything, but I truly love (LOVE) quilting. I use the D1, the Elna 945 and a mid-arm quilting machine. Atm, I am making a huge scrap quilt from all my leftovers (and there is a huge pile there)--then from those scraps I will make a large piece of fabric to quilt, then cut to size and bind to make little quilts for Kitty Angels. From the tiny leftover bits of fabric and thread, I make a sheer shawl dripping in Swarvski crystals, then from those leftovers...every spring I put all the teeny-tiny bits of fabric and thread out for the birds and squirrels (and other nest builders). I hate to waste beautiful (and expen$ive) fabrics and threads. So I use every bit.

Has anyone here ever hand-dyed/marbled/painted/loomed/etc their own fabrics to use in projects? I am very interested in designing my own fabrics. I plan to start this when the weather is better here (late Spring).

If anyone is interested in doing a block swap, I posted in the lounge.

Weight Loss Ever Had A Salesperson Insult You? Jan 15 2008

Original Post by cmama:

I have never had a sales person at a retail store insult me- but the guy who sells gym memberships insulted me. I had just had my baby about two months or so before and the manager walked up to me (while I was jogging on the treadmill) and started to harrass me about renewing my memebership. This followed with "you don't look half bad for just having a baby, I mean you definitely still have a good deal to lose though, but I've seen a lot worse".

I didn't re-sign!

Oh, my!!! Hahahahaha, the dork probably thought he was complimenting you!

I'd say, pity him, but really, I'd pity his poor wife. Just imagine what he put (or will put) her through when she has his child!

I just don't understand that kind of attitude from salepeople. I mean really, wouldn't a "WOW! You look GREAT for just having had a baby! You've been working out hard, and it's really paid off!" put you both in a win/win situation? Bet you would have renewed then. Instead he lost a commission.

Just remember, it's much easier to lose weight than it is to grow a brain.

I don't believe I have ever been insulted by someone trying to sell me something. But, OMG, that "lady" was an idiot!

Her JOB is to sell you a pair of chaps, not discuss whether or not she finds your "ass" attractive.

She lost a sale! Money mouth

Therefore, she is an idiot.

Pity her.
