Hey guys !

akela - that is now also my background too!

Ok so day 2 of back to calorie counting and I've already had 2 oreos. You have no Idea how horrible it felt when I logged them and realized what else I could have had for 140 cals.

So I could not have picked a better time to get back on track. Tomorrow we start a biggest looser competition at work  and I am so excited! We have to pay 5 per week for 12 weeks and at the end who ever looses the biggest percentage of weight gets the pot.  The contest is scheduled to run until 11/20/09 so I am thinking this could tottally be blackfriday $$  lol

How much weight do you all think is reasonable to loose in 12 weeks , think I could pull off 25 pounds?

Thanks to everyone for all the kind words.   I am glad to see this thread is as busy as ever.

Isn't it horrible how easy it is to fall back into old habits? Yesterday was my first day of truly truly logging all my foods and I clocked in just past 1800 hundred calories, and I felt so deprived all day. This same time last year I was averaging around 1400 and always felt full and satisfied.

I just had a cheesestick and am thinking about where I should go for lunch. . .decisions. ..decisions . . .

Hey girls ,

My name is Yessica and I started on CC in January 2008. I was 230 pounds and had been on and off different diets , loosing a few pounds and then gaining them right back. I got pretty active on this site and esp. this forum and by the end of 2008 I was down to 162 pounds and a size 12.    When I was a size 20 +  a size 12 seemed so far away so I was so happy to make it to that number.

Then on 12/25/08 my brother passed away and I couldn't control my eating from then on. Now eight months later I am back up to 182 lbs and the only reason I am not wearing a size 14 is because I refuse refuse refuse to buy bigger clothes. My 12's are skin tight but I will not get a bigger size because that would be like admitting I don't plan on continuing to loose weight.

I still log onto CC every once in a while but don't use the tool like I did in the beginning. Then this morning I logged on and I saw I had a message. Watchme your shout out was a god send! I started looking through the threads and at pics of the girls I was following before and OMG Dalma ,Ally , Watchme   you guys have done so well!!  I am ready to do this again.I am such an emotional eater I've been self medicating with Icecream but it's just not worth it.

I hope to catch up soon , looking forward to sharing successes with you guys again. Smile

Hey there!

Just want to say I think it's awesome you're quitting and to let you know that you don't have to do it alone.

Take advantage of all the great resources that are out there.  Most states have quitlines (1-800-quit-now) or  go to websites like the American cancer society or the American lung association for help from counseling to medications.

You are taking the biggest step in this effort that we all share to become healthier and again huge Kuddos!!

Hello everyone!

My name is Jessica  from TX   ,  I know original screen name : )  , and even thought I've been a looser and not posted in a while , I joined CC back in Jan 08 and have lost about 70 pounds since.

There are so many new girls I just want to say hi hi hi to but also just marvel at how great all the "originals" are progressing.  Dalma Ally and watch me , OMG I am so jealous and excited at how great y'all are doing.

Since last year I've had lots of ups and downs but I am hopping to be more active w/ CC  since I think the fact that I stopped visiting is whats causing my plateau.   To get motivated I signed up for a 10K run at the end of march ( fun run , not timed )  which should help get me back on track.

Anywho it's back to work for me but I hope to get to know everyone   "again" and wish everyone a wonderful day.

The Lounge worst insult you ever got because of your weight.... Sep 09 2008
15:27 (UTC)

I have always been overweight and it's never really bothered me what people have to say but just last week I go the most horrible comment that really hurt my feelings. And the worst part was that it came now after loosing more than 50lbs and from another fat person! Maybe I am taking this too seriously but I think it's different when the insult comes from one "of our own kind". I just think we should stick together!

So I went to work out with some coworkers and I overheard  this one girl that's still like 250 pounds say ( about me ) "I don't want to loose weight if it means I will end up all saggy like her."   Surprised      I so don't think I am saggy , what a h**  she made me so mad!

Weight Loss Do you believe your scale? Sep 08 2008
15:18 (UTC)
17

From  caloriesperhour.com  :

Measuring your weight on a scale is the worst way to track your progress. Daily fluctuations in the amount of water in your body, caused by the amount of salt you eat and other factors, cause your weight to vary. These fluctuations have nothing to do with permanent weight loss, and will only serve to frustrate you.

If you choose to use a scale to monitor your progress, it is generally advised that you not weigh yourself more than once a week. You should also weigh yourself first thing in the morning, when the water content of your body will be more consistent.

They say that mirrors don't lie, and a mirror is actually a great way to see changes in your body. The problem is that many of us are overly critical of ourselves and never seem to like what we see in the mirror. We always find something we don't like and dwell on it, so it helps to have something less subjective to go by.

Clothes don't lie either, and seeing how your clothes fit is a great way to observe the changes in your body. Or if you'd like to be a little more accurate and keep records of your progress, you can take measurements as described in our newsletter Measuring Success.

However, none of these methods makes it very clear whether or not you are losing muscle along with the fat.

Muscle is healthy, makes you look better, and burns calories. It's a good thing. But a scale doesn't tell you whether you are losing body fat or muscle, so you could be losing muscle and not realize it.

A scale also doesn't tell you if you are gaining muscle. Again, muscle is good. But when you are on a weight loss program, gaining muscle can be both confusing and discouraging if you don't realize how it's affecting your weight.

The solution is not to judge your progress by weight alone, but to calculate the percentage of your weight that is body fat and make it your goal to reduce that number, not just your weight.

And once you have determined what percentage of your weight is body fat, it is easy to estimate your muscle mass so that you can monitor that, too, and ensure that you don't lose muscle along with the fat.

In the beginning I was obsessed! I weighed like 10 times a day  trying to get my "true" weight , it was driving me nuts. Now I only weigh once a week but also measure myself to track my progress.

Goals:145 lbs / just to start loosing 2 pounds a week again.

Age:23

Height:5'3"

  • Week 1 (Aug 31): 174
  • Week 2 (Sept 7):  171 !
  • Wohoo , I lost 3 pounds this week! I almost couldn't believe it. I weighed myself like 5 times and once I actually got 170.5 but yep 171. So first of all thanks guys for the motivation/accountability. Also just to let you know I wanted to add more activity but I didn't want to "work out" more because I know I'll get burnt out so  I went  dancing 1 night and I played soccer 1 evening in addition to the 4 days a week I am already working out.  I apparently get really competitive at team sports now that I can actually run for 10 minutes at a time, I even knocked my friend over when I was trying to steal the ball. Embarassed  I hope everyone else is doing great and please feel free to share what is/isn't working for you guys!

Also FYI I have pics of my progress but they are private so just add me to see them.

Weight Loss Weight Loss Drugs To Help Lose the Last 10 Pounds? Sep 03 2008

Everyone says NO for the health reasons, my answer is weirder. I say if you take diet drugs now after all your awesome work you will feel like a cheater.  It's like when an athlete gets caught on steroids everything they ever did in their career gets questioned and it kind of becomes worthless. Even if they just started taking the roids.

Does that make any sense to anyone but crazy me?

I learned a loong time ago you are not going to make 100% of people 100% happy 100% of the time, so screw it do what makes you happy; but you're right there is this  weird emotional vulnerability that comes with loosing all the weight. Like , I believe y'all where talking about it earlier when people complement you and you can't even take it at face value because of all the dang hang ups you still have!! Like instead we start letting our devious little minds wonder, "Well , if I look great now what the he!! did I look like before? "   I mean why can't we just be like "Thanks!" Pat our selves on the back and move on . . . .

    Good morning everyone!

Watchme congrats on the new size!  And for sticking up for yourself, that sounds great that you are going to get your personal training started finally, you deserve it!!

    Mia- Welcome back!!

Dannybelle-  thanks for the compliment I feel great!

I mean this is the smallest I have been in like 9 years , it's awesome!  But ugghh here I go w/ a super mega b!t*% rant:  Can you believe that some of my coworkers wanted to go walking/jogging together and they asked me to go since they have noticed I have been loosing weight , so I am like "sure walking w/ friends should be better than on the treadmill" ( or at least not as boring ). Ok so we all go and one of the girls brings along a girl that (thankfully!!) no longer works with us but is such a snarky little *** . So we walk for like an hour on this hike trail and the whole time the girl that no longer works with us is like "you look great what have you been doing etc. . ."  but then after we are done walking I hear her make this rude comment ( She was in their car, didn't know I was listening ) about how she does not want to loose weight if it means she will end up looking all saggy like me. I was fuming!!!!!!!!! I mean ok yeah sag happens ( BTW I don't think it has happened that badly to me!! ) but this *^*&^* is like 250 lbs no matter how much she sags you'd think she would rather be healthy and smaller than stay like she is.   Anyway I was so mad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Why do people just have to hate? Embarassed lol sorry but there is really no other words for it , just straight hatin'.

Ok thanks for listening guys , I hope everyone is having a better day than me.

For those of you looking to move on to another challenge together, I joined a "loose 30 pounds for the Holidays" group. Sign up's close 8/31 and it officially starts 9/1 so it would be a perfect transition from here! I know 30 pounds sounds like a lot but Xmas is 16 weeks  away so it's really only like  1.8 pounds per week , totally doable.  Go to my profile it should be right near the top of the threads if you are interested in joining.

    Good Afternoon Guys!

Ok so I have to Join your group, I usually weigh in on Sundays and the current challenge I am doing ends 9/1/08 so this is perfect, just what I need to keep me motivated!!

I am a 23 yr old mother of one I work part time and the rest of the time just hang out with my family. I joined CC in January '08  after seeing some pics of myself and being stunned that that was me in the picture. I mean I knew I weighed almost 230 pounds but In my mind I did not realize I looked that big it was so shocking.  I have lost more than 50 pounds so far and am just past the halfway point to reaching my goal.  I currently weight 174lbs  so a 30 pound loss means my goal would be 144 pounds.  Wow ,  I think with your support and checking in weekly I can do this!  My weight loss has been slowing down lately  ( to about 1lb per week vs 2 or 3 lbs per week in the beginning)  so I need something to boost me back up to the mind set and drive that I had in the beggining of the year.

I want to be exhilarated when I look at Xmas 08 pictures ! Or even better be able to compare them to xmas 07 pictures and do one of those awesome before and afters!!  Embarassed  <-- dork

    Good Morning Guys,

Wow y'all have been busy !

Bootser, I am so sorry you had to go through that crap but no matter how cliche it sounds remember everything really does happen for a reason so try to find the little grain of positive in this mess and try to not let yourself get too stressed!

Formerly Safantasia- how did you change your display name? I don't like mine since like day 2 but I didn't think it could be changed.

Ready -  Congrats on the baby!! Smile  Remember that you can still continue to eat healthy and exercise even when you're pregnant.  My cousin who has two kids gained like 60 pounds during her first pregnancy because she was naive and just let herself go with the whole "I'm eating for two now!" mentality. Well  she had lost like 40 of those pounds by the time she got pregnant a second time and her Dr. told her that he didn't want to see her get so big again that a pregnant woman only actually needs like 100 more calories that what they usually eat for the baby. And she was already eating more than that since she was not eating what a "regular" woman eats.  So anyway she started eating healthier during her  2nd pregnancy than before she was pregnant she ended up loosing 10 pounds and her baby was born weighing almost 9 pounds!

Everyone else! hope you're doing awesome and that you're weekend rocked!!!

lol , Embarassed ok sorry if I sounded a little crazy with the PB rant there,  but don't you guys hate it when you think you get something "healthy" like low fat PB and you usually pay more for it and then you look at the label and it just has tons more sugar so you end up getting the same amount of calories?   And in the end won't those simple calories just turn into fat so its the exact same thing and your just out a few bucks thanks to your ignorance???

That has happened so much to me since I have joined CC and started actually looking @ lables so I am very weary now of what I buy.  Anywho crazy lady ( hmm me! Tongue out )  is going home now so I will talk to you guys tomorow!

hey hey hey!! sorry I've been a lurker/stalker but I feel bad when then I don't have time to post so I just read! I am so in for the challenge!! I am aiming for a 2 lb lost in the next 10 days !!!

    CW : 176

    Goal by 9/1  : 174 ( -2 )

Pixie :  Don't go 4 lowfat PB!! If you look @ the nutrition info it has the same amount of calories because they add more sugar to make it taste better,  and  ( sorry sweepie ) but JIF sucks because they had Corn syrup ( ick!!) and tons off other unnecessary junk to their PB. If you can't stomach the natural variety that you have to stir ( I love it its yummy!!!!) either Skippy Natural or Peter Pan  brand PB are really good and have just your basic ingredients ( peanuts, salt, palm oil ) w/o the need to stir.

    Happy Wednesday everyone Laughing

    Original Post by cinfuldiva:

I do this ALL the time!!!  I am HORRIFICALLY self-conscious when I am the biggest girl in the room.  I feel relieved and less pressure when someone larger comes along, but I still feel very self-conscious.  (I'm always thinking, "Oh, I need to hold my abs in" or "Can anyone see my muffin top when I sit down, or is my shirt loose enough?" or "I wonder how bad my ass looks from behind when I'm sitting.")  I've lost 24 pounds (with 33 to go) and now I play a new OBSESSIVE game.  It's called, "Is my butt bigger than hers?  Do my legs look about the same as hers?  Do you think I look thinner or the same as her?"  I drive my hubby NUTS with my barrage of questions when we're out.  I am CONSTANTLY comparing my physique to other women's.  I truly wish I knew how to get over this.

Ditto! I've lost about 50 pounds and would like to loose at the very least 30 more and constantly obsess on how I compare to others.
