No no I'm pleased! I didn't think you would be able to get an individual count for them (I am not going to eat 100 grams or even a cup, I just want them as a little snack through the day to help up my fats and protein, plus I find them really filling) and I was just happy to see them, cc is so great! Sorry for being a big weirdo :D xxxxxxxx |

What do you want the alternative for? Because if its simply calories then you might as well just choose a really lean cut and use a small amount so you still get the flavour for less cals. Red meat is good for you and you can easily encorperate it into your diet by jiggling your receipies around and using a bit less than usual! xxxxxxxxxx |

Ergh, some of my boyfriends girl friends put eyeliner on him on the last day of college, it looked so so so horrid, hes ginger and pale with blue eyes he just looked dead. In no way shape or form should a boy wear make up!! I like all kinds of boys, all kinds of dress styles! I'm only specific about some things, I like a boy to be at least 6' minimum, I'm like 5'6"-7" and wear heels all the time and very high heels when I am going out, I don't want to tower over my man! Also I don't want my boy to be skinny, and expose his skinnyness (no tight jeans please ergh! They make boys look like storks with giant feet sticking out at the bottom)! My boyfirnd works in a supermarket and the pus side of him doing more hours is his back, shoulders and arms get really tonk and look great! But honestly, the most most most important thing is they are nice and they are smart. Anyone can be attractive one they have those two qualities down! xxxxxxxxxxxxxx |

What about a nice salad as well as sandwhiches (for a real picnic you shuld have cucumber sandwiches and cheese and beetroot!)? You coud just do a plain green salad with different leaves in, or you could steam some spring veggies (mangetout/baby corn/green beans) with a home made light dressing or squeeze of lemon juice and have that cold. You could even add a small serving of pasta in there to fill you up a bit more. Or some fish, smoked salmon would be nice and posh with some nice bread and low fat cream cheese, or tinned crab, salmon or tuna in a salad or sandwiches. Or a lean meat like chicken or turkey if you don't like fish or the smell puts you off (I dunno how hot it is or how you are planning to carry it round) You definately need stawberries (a punnet to share, no cutlery is essential!), maybe grapes/pineapple/pear/apple in a fruit salad, sugar free jelly, if you have the cals for the day maybe a small slice of cake, or your favorite dessert. And dont forget to be practical if you want it to be perfect! Insect repellant, something comfy to sit on, suncream, a place to put all your dirty crockery if you are using it, make sure your tupperwarecloses properly so everything is transported with no spillages, wet wipes, plastic bags for rubbish, a camera for photos! Have a lovely picnic! I am jelous you may be able to tell I love picnics! xxxxxxxxxxxx |

| Weight Loss | Any Irish or UK food lovers out there?? | Jun 18 2008 12:00 (UTC) |

I'm not sure about Ireland but in the UK some places, usually posher ones or bigger ones will advertise no msg, if you can you could ring up and ask before hand. Or in they are a chain you could check on line? Sometimes, its really is very hard to make a decision and the best tactic here might be to do some extra exersize during the day, make sure you eat a filling but low cal lunch and brekkie and a snack before you go so that you're not too hungry when you arrive at the resaurant. Drink plently of water or diet fizzy drinks if you must throughout the meal and eat small portions, splitting the starters and puddings. You could even leave a bit hungry and have a little snack before bedtime if you can resist. Sometimes you just have to try and limit the damage, esp. with Chinese food! Just remember to enjoy yourself and your company and don't get cross if you cave in a little bit during the meal, its just one day! Have a lovely evening! xxxxxxxxx |

I dunno, that doesn't sound that wierd to me, I have a friend who can't drink tap or bottled water unless its mineral water because she thinks its dirty. And a friend who wont eat finger food or let people taste food while they are cooking because he thinks it spreads germs. Animals and pets inside peoples houses gross me out a bit cos I think its dirty, same with carpet in the bathroom (though I can cope with that okay, it doesn't stop me being in other peoples houses) That kind of thing is really common, if its totally out of character maybe suggest it, but honestly most people have little quirks and do things that can seem a bit OCD to others that seem normal to them. xxxxxxxxx |

What about the local lesure cente? That the gym I'm with, its 3 pound for off peak access. BUT then again, say if you go to the gym 4 x a week (4 x 3 = 12) every month (12 x 4 = 48) and thats not even a very nice gym. And its 5 pound at peak times (before 9 and after 6) so I dunno, it depends how much you are going to use it, if your going to be committed I guess its not that bad. Does your uni not have sports or athletics teams you could join? Or like a joggers/runners club? Hope you get sorted soon! xxxxxxx PS. Also, be cheerful, you guys are supposed to be getting a new state of the art gym built this year or next year sometime, I noticed because my little sis is thinking of going there!

The FSA suggests these fish as sources for oily fish: Salmon But remember, if you may have a baby in the future, or are pregnant/breastfeeding you shoud limit your portions of oily fish to two a week because they contain pollutants (this doesn't harm you short term but is a problem if your continuously eating loads of oily fish!) xxxxxxx |

| Weight Loss | Frame Size? | May 16 2008 13:41 (UTC) |
9 |
There are several ways of measuring your 'frame', In my friends biology class they worked it out by measuring the length of your arm from your shoulder to your elbow, and comparing that with the width of your shoulders, if your arm is longer, small frame, if they are the same, medium frame and f your shoulders are bigger, big frame. On the above measurement I have a big frame, when I do the thumb and middle finger I am small framed. Remember, they are just tools to help you work with your body, not hard and fast rules! A better thing to look at, for weightloss/fitness might be your body type, meso-, endo- or ecto- morph. xxxxxx |

Yeah, dont fight back, men are alot bigger and can do alot more damage to girls than the other way around. If is isn't severe enough to go to the police, could you speak to someone at your school or college? They might be able to refer you to social services who could find you a place to live? Or if you are planning to leave after your legal, do you have friend or another family member who could put you up for a spell? I think you have to tell some authority, especially if you aren't going to be able to leave the house soon, you need to get yourself out of the situation. xxxxxxxx |

Well, how ever much exersize you do you have to make sure you have a suitable deficit, if your deficit is too big it can hamper your loss, but more importantly you need extra food for doing extra! So, pop those numbers in the calorie count machine and see where you wind up, it might turn out you need to eat more, it might not, but no one can really tell you without knowing all your stats and goals! Well done on being so active today! It sounds like you did really great work! xxxxxxx |

| Foods | Breakfast suggestions? | Apr 30 2008 19:51 (UTC) |

What about eggs, they cook well fast, and are full of protein and you can even do them in the microwave? you could have eggs with toast or waffels for carbs, or for veggies maybe tomatoes or spinich or corgette? Or what about cottage cheese, you could chop up some veggies and some cooked meat (you know, the sliced stuff?) and throw them in with that? That good and protein-y. Or left overs, some people prefer to have 'real' food rather than brekkie food, something with beans and veggies in, like a chilli, might be nice? Then that would be like you burrito but not quite the same and you wouldn't have to cook it? Or for extra cals you could have porridge and throw some fruits in there? Hope that helps, enjoy the snooze button! xxxxxxxxx |

O lovey, It might be a good idea for you to try what sweety suggests, do you have full length mirror? Maybe once every day you could stand in front of it and just look at yourself for something like 5 mins, take that time to absorb how you look. I have heard that they use this method sometimes on people recovering from eating disorders, the idea is that making you look at yourself and appriciate what you see forces a more realistic perception of yourself into your head. You might find it helpful to drum what you really look like into your head, rather than what you think you look like/what you used to look like, and this can help you to feel more confident when you are surrounded by other people. Also, have you considered looking into any trans-gender/gay/bisexual support groups in your area? It might make you feel a little bit less isolated and you can see that there are other trans who have found partners, so you dont have to fear everyones reaction is going to be negative. It also might help you meet some friends who share your experiances and understand your insecurities? Its always nice to feel conected to a community so you know your not alone. And if you thought you might not be ready for face-to-face talkingabout your insecurities, I'm sure there are plenty of support groups on the net to get you started And maybe you could try seeing a counceller? I don't know how the system works in America but over here there are mental health charities and trusts that can help you to find councellers and support groups, or maybe you could talk to your GP or doctor? (I hope you don't find that offensive, I know a lot of people swear by simply having an impartial voice they can speak to, and who they know will listen) Dont forget, you have been through massive changes in your life already, its normal to feel adrift when things change, even if they change for the better, just rememer to take care of yourself and love youself, if you can manage that, everything else sort of falls into place! Good luck! xxxxxxx PS. You look great in your profile pics, so every time that little gremlin in your head says you aren't good enough, stamp on him! |

In the middle ages, women used to be painted in art as perminantly pregnant, to ephasise their fertility, I always thought that was cool, And Roman women used to shave the hair off their european slaves and make it into wigs if it was blonde or red because red/blonde hair was so rare and considered really beautiful. Ancient carvings and drawings of European traders in China always emphisise white peoples large ears, large eyes and large noses compared to the face shapes of the Chinese And the paintings by the Pre-Raphilites were suprising for the time as red hair, big lips and big noses were considered highly unfashionable Cool eh? Its funny how stuff changes, but the idea of exoticism/rarity carries on i suppose |

| Weight Loss | so did today screw it all up??? | Apr 27 2008 11:46 (UTC) |
10 |
| Of course not, one day is one day, it doesn't change everything over night. If all you have been eating is 1000-500 cals a day it isn't suprising that you woke up hungry and overate. That kind of calorie restriction is dangerous and totally unsustainable, and is more likely than not to lead to you binging on a regular basis, and just spirraling into and awful guilty feeling. This kind of thing happens alot to people on this site, especially young people. Go away, calculate how much you should be eating using the tools on this site, and eat that amount (not any less). Mare sure your diet is balanced- high in lean protein, fruits, vegetables and good fats. Exersize regularly, both cardio and weight training, that will aid your weightloss, gove you great health benefits and release lots of endorphines which will make you feel really great! DONT sit and think how you must suddenly look fat from what you have been eating. Take time to look at your body, appriciate what is nice about it, what you like about yourself. Start to try to change your own perceptions of your body, and take take time to appriciate the beaty and stength of yourself. You only have one body, look after it! xxxxxxxx PS. | The Lounge | Global Food Crisis | Apr 24 2008 21:15 (UTC) |

Dont forget though that Africa trades in a large proportion (compared to its development levels) of agricultural products. Farmers are forced to sell the food they grow to export markets in order to acrue capital, and for the state to be able to payback debts to international economic institutions. These farmers don't get a fair price for the goods they trade because of the low price of primary products and the massively protected agricultural markets in developed countries, such as the US and the EU. Its not about food aid, its about unfair trade policies which advantage Northern countries and hold back the worlds porrest people. Its not simply a case of there not being enough food, there are systemic inequalities that hamper the ability for developing states to protect themselves from crises. That they will be about a hundred times more impacted by environmental catastrophes that developed states also prevents poor states protecting themselves. There are poor food harvests in the developed wolrd as well as the undeveloped world. The difference is people in the developed world starve and die, and lucky for us, we dont. Also the drive for newly industrialising nations (China/India etc) to wholesale embrace manufactured production, under the guidance of international financial institutions, rather than to continue producing and storing foodstuffs makes them incredably vunerable. xxxxxxx PS.Also, on a note about chocolate, Mars have recently attempted to patent a specific coco bean which grows in Ghana, which they say gives their chocolate its unique state. This will prevent farmers growing this bean and selling it for their own profit, even though they may use it in an unrefined state and despite the fact its been a staple crop, bringing resources to the community for thousands of years. |

What about something you do as a family, or with your mum/dad? Perhaps you and your mum could go to a ladies only swim session? Or you could play something like tennis or badminton that can be as intense or as light as you want? Then you get the non-sedentary feeling, and it might give you a good time to bond with your perants, so they can see how committed you are to getting better (I only suggest this because in my experiance, eating disorders of any kind can put strain on a family, so it might be nice to try and be together) And if you go together, they cant worry about you while you are gone, as perants often do! xxxxxxx |

Can't you just buy the low cal dressings from the shops? Or use less of your usual one? This is an amazing thread! Its so interesting how different peoples experiances are! For myself, I will be the first to say I wish I could be 'thick' like mixed race or black women, the sad fact is it is literally never going to happen. I'm half English half Irish and I look like a Northern European, 5'7, long arms and legs, big hands and feet, big eyes, small nose and mouth. Though I have got shape to me, I am never going to get a black womans bum (so sad!). Luckily my boyfriend likes me as I am! Hes 100% English, literally, his family have NEVER left his hometown, and prefers women a bit bigger (Charlotte Church as a point of reference) but I think I keep him interested because I do have an arse and boobs, and although he says he would love me however I looked, he has told me he doesn't want me to lose any more weight (he loves it since I've been to the gym, my cheast has shrunk but my arse has grown, a fair trade I would say!) As far as race goes in the attractiveness for me stakes, I dont find any race more or less attractive than any other, but I like boys who are tall (6 ft at least) and built, not massive body builder types, but with some shoulder. I read a thing about how you are genetically pre-disposed to find people of your ethnic or racial origin more attractive, apparently its in order to protect the gene pool and not introduce possible defective genes, which makes sense from an evolutionary point of veiw I guess. If its the case then I couldn't NOT fancy my boyfriend, he's tall, pale and freckely (like me) with ginger hair and blue eyes, I was a gonner the first time I saw him! xxxxxxx PS. Once I got complemented by a black guy in town, he came up to me and said he'd seen me from the bus and that I looked really good and sorted, and then told me to have a nice weekend, it was such a kind and considered compliment, and he stopped to tell it to me, the it made my day! And I was really suprised because I don't have a look that black men usually find attractive, so there we go! |
