I love doughnuts!

I'm back from vacation and I actually lost a pound!  I have started power walking with a bit of running mixed in.  I am up to 3 miles with about a half mile of running.  My first 3 miles was finished in 41 min 41 sec.  The last one I did was 40 min 16 sec.  And I am buring almost 700 calories each time I do this!!

Good luck everyone, and peace!

I can't believe that I went away on vacation at 155 and was praying that I would not gain a whole bunch.  I lost 1 lb!!  I feel pretty good!!

Been a while since I posted here.  Right now I am on vacation at the beach and I have been doing pretty well.  I have gotten up around 6-6:30 every day and walked/ran on the boardwalk.  According to my heart rate monitor I have been going for about 30 min and burning from 400-500 calories.  That's good because I had only gotten up to 300 at home.  I am eating ok, no major slip ups so far.  We are going out for ice cream tonight.  I plan on getting real ice cream, not sorbet or such.  I will only get one scoop and in a cup, no cone.  I hope that doesn't put me over the edge!

Well, wish me luck! 3 days to go then home again.  See ya!

Peace, Sarah

Thanks for the ideas for the food from MIL.  School is a great place to take food.  I only have 4 more weeks until I go back!  There is always so much food at work.  Last year we had a guy who would bring baklava (sp?) at least once a month.  My weakness!!!  It was hard to resist.

I have been doing 30-40 min of exercise every day for about 4 days now.  No budge on the numbers of the scale but I hope it moves soon.  I bought a heart rate monitor last week and, right now, it's a fun toy to motivate me.  Let's hope I can keep it up!

Good Sunday everyone!

Peace, Sarah

It's been a while since I looked at this post.  I have lost 10 lbs since then but gained it back again.  At 5'2" and 156 I need to drop about 25 lbs.  As a teacher with the summer off you'd think I could get more done since I'm not working.  Nope.  Not motivated much at all.

Yesterday I walked in the woods with my husband.  My hrm said I worked off 266 calories.  I just got the monitor hoping it will push me.

About the cookies, my mother in law always sends us treats she makes.  I can't throw them away but I hate that the kids are eating the sweets, too.  Any suggestions with the MIL?

Peace, Sarah

Hi and welcome!  Glad to see you are trying this great website!

We have similar stats, too.  I am 5'2" and todays number was 156.  I started in January, lost 10 lbs, then stress kicked in again to bring the numbers back up.

There are a lot of tools on this site and some great people.  I'll be part of your support group if you like!

Peace, Sarah

Hi and welcome!  I hope this site works for you.

I have been her for a few months and I'm still on the roller coaster.  We are the same age and I feel like it is time to take control.  Do you feel the same way?

I will visit your blog (I'm not very hip with these things) but I hope to hear from you on this site.

Good luck and Peace to you!

Hi and welcome!  I hope this site works for you.

I have those same hunger pains but there are ways to get around them.  Try drinking lots of water.  It fills your stomach well.

There are lots of tools to help you on this site.  The biggest hurdle is the exercise.  You have to use more calories than you put in your mouth.  It's hard but there is a lot of support on this site.

Good luck!

Hi and welcome!  I hope this site will work for you.

I have tried Weight Watchers as well and used the core plan so I didn't count points.  Counting calories is about the same, but either way, you need to monitor how much goes in and how much you work off.  This site gives you many ways to help you do this.  Good luck!

Update 8/15: At least the numbers are going down.  It's slow but I'll take it!

Update 8/22: Yup.  Still going down.  With my new goal I am almost there!  I have started running with my daughter's cross country team and it is really getting me into shape.  I'll take 1 pound a week!

Update 8/29: Since it's so close to totm I think I will not be at my goal of 150 by Sept. 1.  Oh, well.  Better luck next time!

I think stress is getting in the way.  Or at least I use that as an excuse.  School is almost over, I am a high school special educator, and all of the last minute things get me going.  I have not been getting sleep well and no exercise.  I just have no interest in doing any right now.  I believe that when school is over I might be able to get moving more.

I think I'll start with getting off the DP again.  Since I hate diet drinks, even though I drink Diet Sierra Mist, I might get on water better.   Tea is not my cup of tea (ha ha and I thought tea was a southern thing?) but I was doing well with water in January.  I was up to 64 oz a day!  My eyeballs were floating!!

I was also working with the Biggest Loser DVD for around 30 min every day.  I feel so stupid that I quit!

I will try to do more reflection on what I eat.  Today I feel sort of sick so I haven't eaten much.  I had 2 McDonald's hash browns and a half of a sausage, egg, cheese biscuit.  Lunch was very little of a Healthy Choice meatloaf.  I didn't even eat the veggies.  I think I am catching cold.

As I said, stress is a big factor.  I hope this all evens out after school is out!

Peace to everyone, Sarah

I'm 41, will be 42 in July.  I'm 5'2".  I started CC in January at 158.  Now I'm 155.5 after getting down to 148 and gaining back again.  At least I'm not at 158 again.  I'd like to be around 130 to start.  I was 104 when I got married 19 years ago and I don't think I want to be that skinny again.  Just healthier.

I have a busy life and I'm always taking care of my family instead of me.  As my screen name says, I'm still tryin!

I would love to have more friends on CC.  Some people have left already after a month or two.  I'll keep checking back here for more motivation for us 40 somethings!

Another CC friend said the same thing about changing one thing at a time.  I can do that for a while then things just fall away (not the weight!).  Dr. Pepper, for example.  I can get to one can a day then none, and, for a while, I was DP free.  Several weeks ago I became ginormously stressed and had one.  Then another and now I am up to 3-4 per day.  Another CC friend is challenging me to change to diet DP.  Ewww.  But I'm going to try!

Good luck, Molly, with your new eating habits. I'm sure you will keep us posted on how well this works. I'll be lucky to eliminate the dreaded soft drinks from my diet right now.

Our forsythia is blooming and we had a snow shower this morning. So we should expect 2 more? The weather man is calling for temps in the mid to upper 60's here in Virginia. I am very excited about this! I can bring out the short sleeves and maybe get in a ride on my Harley! Wheee!

I ate a lot of ham for easter, too. And meatballs, and dinner rolls, and, and, and...

Oh, well. On to a new attempt to shave off some of those calories!

Bills, bills, bills.  I hate bills.  Then when you get those overdraft charges, yes, I am terrible about this.

About the scale.  I would like to stop using it.  I would like to judge my success with my clothes.  I just can't seem to stop weighing myself.  I even go to the bathroom then weigh again to see if it goes down.  Too obsessive, I'm sure.

I have been sick lately so I hope to be exercising again soon.  With the weather breaking now (here in Virginia) I want to get outside more.  I am envious of the biking you do, Molly, and I would love to have a bike.  The seats hurt my butt, though.

The eggplant thing sounds good enough to try.  I'll let you know!

OK.  So, I've read some of the MANY discussions in this post and I would like to put my 2 cents worth in.  I am having trouble with a mother-in-law who does not seem to get it.  She watches me sweat to Biggest Loser DVD for 25 min, huffing and puffing while Bob goes on and on about how I can do this, then she sends down a hot skillet of corn bread with my son!  I love corn bread!  She says stuff like "You'll be skinny enough for a bathing suit by summer" then sends down chocolate cake!  Aarrrrgg!  She lives right up the hill and asks for my 10 year old son to come get this stuff.  Why does she feel like she needs to torture me?  I have been doing so well since January.  This is my first real attempt to get healthier.  I'm 5'2" at 149 right now.  I would like to lose another 20 or 25 lbs or so.  I don't care if it is by the summer (OK, I lie.  I want to look good in a bathing suit, vanity!) but I want to have a healthy life style.  Please tell me how I can live with seeing this woman every day, talking on the phone at least once a day, and several times a day on the weekends, and stay sane!

OK.  I'm done.  Molly, congrats on the great accomplishment of getting healthy.  You are an inspiration!  I'll be checking in every so often so keep in touch everyone!

I just want to be clear. I go into my original post and edit to put my weight in, right? I had gone down to 149.5 yesterday but I ate 2 slices of pizza and birthday cake for my son's birthday. I haven't had any water today so I am way behind. I go back to school tomorrow so my pattern will be better. Good luck everyone else this week!!

Well, it's Valentine's day and I didn't make my goal by 1 lb.  I'm at 150.  I guess I should make my next goal to be at 145 by St. Patrick's Day.  Anyone want to work on that with me?

I was able to finish the 100 crunches!  It was easier than I thought.  I broke it up into different forms.  I think I can do this regularly.

I was able to get a pound off.  It feels better to finally get over the hump.  I've been sort of down about that.  I increased my calories slightly.  I think I was eating too little and my body went into starvation mode.  So I may make my Valentines goal afer all.  I am 150.5 right now and wanted to be at 149 by V-day.  We will see!

I am trying but I don't seem to be getting the numbers that everyone else is getting.  I know I don't get enough water.  I also don't  get enough fruits/veggies.  I have upped both of those yesterday and today.  What else can I do?  I only have so much time to exercise, thus my pre-breakfast workout.  Any suggestions?

Also, I have real trouble getting my food logged.  Portioning is difficult and it just takes forever (I only have dial up at home).  Any suggestions on this?

Can I suggest another personal challenge?  So many of us are wanting to lose weight to look good, me included.  But what is it, really, about us that makes us beautiful?  Name something, not necessarily physical, about you that is beautiful.  For me it's my loyalty to friends.  Once a friend, always a friend!
