Short On Calories Late In The Day |

Original Post by nycgirl:
Are you recovering from an ED and getting active help with your recovery. Here is why you need to make sure you eat no less than 1200 calories a day.
Firstly, Calorie Count cannot and will not support you
eating less than 1200 calories a day. We consider this unhealthy and CC
is all about HEALTHY weight loss and weight maintenance.
From Mary Hartley, Calorie Count's Director of Nutrition: "By eating only 800 calories, you will not get enough energy, protein, fiber, vitamins,
minerals and other components of food. In time, you could become malnourished, which
can cause severe health risks such as respiratory infections, kidney failure,
blindness, heart attack and even death."
Here is a brief reason why never less than 1200 from the Advice section of Calorie Count Plus, under the Q&A tab:
Why must I eat at least 1,200 calories a day when I want to eat less?
In order to get the daily food servings you need for a balanced
diet, it takes about 1200 calories a day. With careful planning, you
could have a balanced diet on 1000 calories, but the restrictiveness of
a very low calorie level can lead to binging and weight cycling, which
will take you further from your weight loss goal. What's more, very low
calorie diets can cause excessive muscle breakdown and metabolic
adaptations, which can drive down your calorie requirements. In the
end, you'll need fewer calories to maintain a higher weight
Your body needs at least 1200 calories per day to survive.
Here is a very rough scientific break down provided by a dietician for a 5' 2", 19 year old female weighing approximately 100 pounds, sitting around all day and doing nothing: -The heart needs 12% of the calories (144 cals) -The kidney needs 12% of the calories (144 cals) -The Liver needs 23% of the calories (276 cals) -The brain needs 23% of the calories (276 cals) -The skeletal muscle needs 30% of the calories (360 cals)
yea. i defintiely don't think eating like this is healthy at all. but i am recovering from an ed and doing sooo much better than i used to. eating much more than i even thought possible and working on getting 1500-1700 calories a day. |

i think you are suggesting you are taking laxatives to lose weight. first, that is VERY VERY unhealthy. and second, you're not losing real weight. it's not fat you are losing just mostly water. |

i think that the person who started this thread probably just wanted to not feel abnormal because they ate "so much".
i've eaten over 4,000 calories in a day before i'm sure. don't freak out. it happens. it's definitely not something that is healthy unless you are trying to gain weight. which you could probably stand to gain a bit perhaps.
you definitely won't gain even a pound from these two days. your weight will fluctuate a bit day by day.
don't worry you'll be fine.
oh i'm 5'4" and 100 pounds. underweight trying to maintain and hopefully gain.

drinking too much water or just a lot of water at one time makes me feel really weird. out of it. probably because i flush out nutrients. that's my guess.
but it's never given me a headache. |

thank you. good advice. it's just so scary to think of being at a healthy weight. at 100 pounds i feel like i could stand to lose another 5 pounds. being more than this seems gross. how do other girls weigh 15 more pounds than me and look okay? man. |

I want to cut out sugar... who here has done it? |

Thank you so much for all your replies.
I think I will try it starting May....
gj-jane: I think I'll try what you said first, going 2-3 weeks cold turkey no sugar at all, and see how it goes from there....
I have a couple questions:
1. Fiber One or All-Bran Original Cereal? They are not very sweet cereals....but Fiber One has sucralose and All-Bran Original has 7g of sugar (but again, it doesnt taste really sweet) Although I find that cereals do tend to make me crave sweets even more afterwards, so maybe I should avoid...
2. Artificial Sugars.... none at all right? And this makes sense. Cause anything remotely sugary triggers my sugar cravings even more. So I assume Splenda-sweetened fruit yogurt is a no-no? Should I just buy plain yogurt and sweeten with fresh fruits only?
And jam with 'no added sugar' as well? (actually definitely no jam, it always makes me crave it sooo much more, I use to eat that stuff straight from the jar w/ a spoon as a kid)
3. Ketchup - I use that stuff religiously (almost every meal, with practically everything). I think, because I am addicted to the sugar in it. Should I cut this out as well? What about barbecue sauce??
you can get these jams that have 1/2 the sugar of regular jams with no artificial sweetener made by smuckers that are really good. but it does have sugar. i probably have it maybe once a week.
you can also get organic ketchups that have no sugar added but they are pricey. personally i don't like ketchup enough to get them. i'm more of a mustard person. |

My moms anorexic. HELP! |

Original Post by gi-jane:
So if a kid has a morbidly obese parent they should tell the school counsellor? A smoking parent? A parent that drinks alcohol? ....
The woman hides 'her food' ... not the kids' food BTW. Hiding the children's food would be child abuse. Hiding her own food is just odd behaviour.
i kinda agree with this. this woman is underweight. but some people's parents are over weight and buy their kids big macs and soda and no one thinks that is odd. it's more excepted behavior. so even though i don't think doing either is good i don't think that you need to freak out about this.
i would straight out tell my mom that i know she's weird about food and that i worry about her but understand that everyone has their own struggles. then i would tell her i am concerned that the habits she has might rub of on your siblings. |

gi-jane if this woman is anorexic and has three daughters, two of which she is trying to control their weight this is a serious problem. I have a sister who is anorexic, and it effected the entire family, especially my younger sister who was at a very impressionable age.
ryann93 I am with everyone who says keep trying to reach out to her. It's really hard living with someone with this disease, but I'm glad I never gave up on my sister.
i agree that if she trying to control her kids food being an anorexic that is not good at all. |

some dogs have digestive problems and have to be vegetarian. dogs are omnivores so it's not too difficult and is pretty healthy even though they definitely are more hard wired towards eating meat than humans.
cats SHOULD NOT be vegetarian. cats are carnivores. and even though you can feed a cat some tofu or something doesn't mean that they can survive on a plant based diet. they can't and shouldn't. |

the talk to the plant thing i would have just stared at the guy weird and walked away. that's a weird thing to say.
the Indian thing i would have laughed at a little bit maybe and then said, "do you mean native american?" and then kept eating my food after taking a few disgusted glances at the meat on their plate. |

i was at that point a bit after me and my boyfriend started dating. i was pretty underweight when we first started dating but we would make a lot of food together and i started gaining. i got back up to 115 which is actually what i should weigh but i felt VERY uncomfortable at that weight and hated being around him naked.
he basically told me that he was comfortable with me at whatever weight i wanted to be at and although he couldn't say that he was into bigger girls i was no where near close to being big. that helped a bit i guess.
i don't really know what to say. i just had to suffer through it until i started feeling comfortable. |

i have sugary things occasionally. but a lto of things are way too sugary for me now. soda seems gross (except for stez). but when you cut stuff like that out at first it's extremely difficult but then it becomes easier. eventually you'll try to have a glass of soda and it will taste disgusting.
my problem now is salt. i LOVE salty foods way too much. |

i LOVE LOVE LOVE black beans, lentils and chick peas. especially chick peas.
black beans- black bean burger, black bean burritos, black beans and rice w/ salsa, man i straight up eat them out of the can.
lentil- really good for soups especially with mushroom and rice, lentils and rice w/ nutritional yeast and margarine, lentil burgers, lentil loaf (like meat loaf).
garbanzo beans- besides just eating them out of the can you can put them in salads, soups, make a wrap with them or make hummus |

i'd probably eat regularly for breakfast and lunch then probably make a nice dinner that i usually don't let myself eat and have a few beers. i am not really big on sweets so i don't know if i will do cake and ice cream this year. maybe i'll make some banana nut bread and have a small scoop of vanilla soy delicious. |

i try to eat within an hour of getting up. skipping breakfast makes me feel weird/tired all day. plus giving your body breakfast really helps keep up your metabolism after your night of fast. that's why it's called break-fast. not eating for that many hours is bound to slow down your metabolism. |

I'd like to know what's in the Subway roasted chicken patty. It's not even close to being real chicken meat...
EDIT: CHICKEN PATTY: Chicken breast meat with rib meat, water, seasoning [corn syrup solids, vinegar powder (maltodextrin, modified corn & tapioca starch, dried vinegar), brown sugar salt, dextrose, garlic powder, onion powder, flavour (hydrolyzed corn gluten, autolyzed yeast extract, partially hydrogenated soybean oil & cottonseed oil, thiamine hydrochloride, disodium inosinate & disodium guanylate)], soy protein, sodium phosphates. (disgusting).
I think you'd be better off with the CHICKEN STRIPS... Boneless, skinless, chicken breasts, water, seasoning (salt, modified corn starch, flavour, yeast extract, spice, chicken fat, sesame oil, onion powder), soy protein, sodium phosphate, flavour.
thats gross. |

Talk to HIM. Not the girl..the girl doesn't owe you anything.
You also have no reason to flaunt her rejection. A), thats mean. Why would you want to be as bad as her. B), you are already flaunting it just by being with him, believe me. Nothing else is required. C), if you act like a jerk, your boyfriend will notice, and I'm sure that isn't going to encourage him to like you any more than he already does.
If I were in your position I would talk to the BF about the sleeping in the bed issue. And I would tell him how you don't like how the girl acts. And then I would ignore the girl completely. =/
AND I WOULD CONTINUE IN MY RECOVERY! =/
i am continuing my recovery. i have been eating at least over 1100. it's not like i am going back to starving myself even though i know i should be getting a lot more than that. i'm working on it. i did eat 1990 calories which is the most calories i have had in a long time just a few days ago.
i have talked to him. i'm okay with him now because we've talked about it otherwise i would be angry with him too.
i'm not going to flaunt it by actually saying anything to her. i am going to just be around. flaunt it by just looking good and by NOT SAYING anything and continuing to be with him.
i don't want to do this to make my boyfriend like me more. i just really want to irritate this girl because she does this with so many other girl's boyfriends and breaks people up. and i am really really happy that that streak ended with my boyfriend. also she has locked herself in a room with a guy friend of mine when he was drunk/blacked out. (he was already blacked out laying in bed when she went into his room.) he is diabetic and people kept banging on the door to try to get in to see if he was okay but she just kept yelling "go way!" and he woke up in bed with her. if she was a guy and he was a girl they would have broke that door down!

ED frustrations!!! |

i do this too! way to much. minus the throwing up, i haven't done that in a while, and i would really like to stop as well. i usually eat pretty good all day knowing that i will be taking in extra calories from beer that night and then after i get drunk i just eat and eat and eat.
solution, get to drunk to eat. get really really drunk to the point you can't even talk right let alone walk to the kitchen for some food. haha. just joking.
i think having something healthy waiting for you at home is a good idea i might try. instead of binging on bad stuff you could eat a bunch of veggie soup (is warm and will fill you up with less) and my favorite, seaweed! just an idea.
then during the day you could try to get yourself to eat a it more knowing that you didn't take in an enormous amount of food the night before. |
