| Motivation | LOSE WEIGHT FOR THE SUMMER! we can do it! | Jun 27 2008 16:03 (UTC) |
|
I recommend using the tools on this site or another to determine if 1200 calories is enough for you... I've found trying to restrict too much wears me down and I'm not able to succeed in the lifestyle changes I'm trying to make... It's kinda funny sometimes, the other day I ate over 2200 calories and lost 3 lbs that day (I'm sure the weight was coming off anyways)... I'm a fairly big girl with lots to lose, but I've found if I stick to 1500-1800 on a day to day basis, I'm good... I also ran this past my doc and he was very impressed and said that amount is perfect for me... The weight comes off slower, much much slower... but I have yet to spring back to where I was, even when I took almost a month off because of a new job and the stresses that involved... I'm very glad your inspired... That's the first and hardest step I think... Summer is great because it makes getting proper exercise so easy... Plus so many nutritious fruits and vegies are available... Good Luck my friend... Keep us updated! |

Original Post by egoheen: Thanks for making this post, I'm very much the same way... Mmmm Butter, Cheese, LOL!!! I have found egg dishes to be great. Add just a bit of cheese (I use measuring cups and allow myself a serving (or so, it's all measured and accounted for... this is a lifestyle change so I want to enjoy it) and some cooked spinach or broccoli (I have no problems with these two veggies, but that's really about it LOL)... Easy, Breezy... Good for Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner |

Original Post by kmw_24: Just a side comment on the combo method, I find it helps the time go faster too in a way... It probably has more to do with the fact that I'm tracking the time in smaller increments than if I'm looking at a whole 45 min block... |

So ye want to hear me story do ye? (Yah, I'm a recovering WoW addict too, but it's been a few years since I was sucked down that whole)...
I've battled weight issues my entire conscious life... When I was 15, I weighed 103 lbs, but thought I was fat... I wanted to get down to 76 lbs for some outrageous reason... Thank the gods, that never happened LOL!! Now that I'm about 100 lbs heavier, I look back at those pictures and chuckle... I realize now, that when I look in the mirror, what I see is not realistic... I feel the same fat feeling I did when I was 15 and I now know I wasn't fat then. Well, I've dieted off and on and lost good amounts of lbs a few times... Once from hard work and well, obsession really, and once from a misdiagnosis and really really horrible medicines... I was literely being poisoned by my doc and lost over 50 lbs in less than 2 months... (One interesting thing I've notice since I've lost some weight from exercise now is I can wear the same size now and I could when I was 20 lbs lighter from the drug reactions...) I have really slacked off on the calorie counting, but still watch what I eat. The last few weeks have been hard because I keep going out and getting fatty cheese foods... (Cheese is my downfall) but I seem to be maintaining, so I'm not going to get ticked at myself. As I said in my earlier post, I have a fitness goal that's my priority now... Next month there is a "Relay for Life" in my town that I'm going to volunteer for... I get to walk/run for 2 hours and get donations based on how many miles I walk/run. The proceeds go to cancer research... My cousin recently ran a marathon and I saw how proud everyone was of him and decided I wanted to complete something like that (but more to my abilities, I'm not a runner LOL)...

Aaach!! I feel like such a failure No No Not really!!!! LOL I'm not all gang ho right now, but I'm still better off than I was a year ago, or even 6 months ago... I'm not gaining either so that's very nice... Thanks so much for sharing your story... My dad and one of my best friends were the "fat" guy in the army so I know how hard that can be... Your story made me proud of what I have accomplished and inspired me to see what I can add to make it better still... I have a personal fitness goal right now so am putting my emphasis there instead of on what I eat so much, but it does get easy rather quickly to just run to the store for $5 pepperoni pizza because I got home late...

| Weight Loss | I was thinking...the best diet? | Jun 09 2008 17:26 (UTC) |

I'm totally with GI Jane on this one... I've yo-yo'd for years and years... because I keep setting myself up to fail... This time around, my outlook is much different and may actually not be acceptable for most people. I really don't care about my weight at this time. Sure I look at the numbers each day and do my best to count my calories accuratly, but I've found that the key to my happiness is exercise and better nutrition in general. I really just want to feel better and the changes I've made are helping that. I still have days that are bad, where I feel like I'm binging (and I probably am) but I remind myself that is just one day in the rest of my life. Sure, my weight isn't going down very fast, if at all actually... But my self esteem has gone up beyond previous levels (even when I was 103 lbs)... I feel sassy, sexy and fit at 200ish lbs (5'2" and 32yrs old if you want all the stats)... I think you gotta get to where your ready to do this for yourself, and noone else... You'll find your groove, a fad diet may be that for you, it's just not for me... |

My workout music is mostly 80's early 90's pop... Although, now that someone mentioned Rob Zombie, I may have to make a new mix... I've been thinking about it anyways, been using the same mix for almost 4 months, it's getting a bit old LOL!!! |

I'm game!! Although, it sure feels like my metabolism hit that wall... Maybe because I never ever had "that one sport." Rocking out and dancing around like an idiot with my friends seemed to do the trick back then... I'd blame it all on hubby, but I was with him back then. How much background shall we ask about? I'm jumping in with the basics... I'm 32 (for a few more months LOL), 5'2", 200 ish lbs (ya know how this changes from day to day :O...)... My suggested "healthy" weight is 123 lbs, but seriously... I don't want to be that skinny, curves really are sexy... No really, I would be extremely proud of myself and overjoyed if I got to the 150-160 range. I know that it's still technically obese, but not everyone has the "typical" healthy weight. I don't really enjoy physical exertion... In fact, one of my favorite sayings is "I'm inherently lazy!!!" However, I have began enjoying working out alot more than I used to... I really think that has more to do with how I fell before, during and after than any amount of "FUN" LOL!!! But hey, whatever works. Oh ya, I tend to ramble endlessly LOL!!!! Well you brought up the subject |

| Weight Loss | do you log coffee? How many calories do you suggest? | May 01 2008 14:08 (UTC) |

Original Post by jasmin3w4: I log my extras such as cream and milk, but don't log the coffee itself. As for your calorie amount, ya, it's hard to tell without knowing all your stats, but it sounds pretty low to me also. I kinda zig zag and not on purpose. I've still not found that magic number and somedays eat around 1500 and somedays around 1800 (which my doc fully approves of that range). Then there are days like yesterday, when I totally blew it at dinner, I didn't even log it because I didn't know how. We went to Sizzler and I had the salad bar (no they are not always good for ya LOL) and I'm sure I bumped my number up to around 2000 because I hadn't been very careful all day. Well, I lost 1.8 lbs yesterday... Go figure LOL!!! My advise (and I'm no expert) would be to try upping your calories, if the headaches don't go away, or if you start gaining, I'd say check with a doc. That really is what they are there for

Original Post by mortalmonkey: I love the Assman plates, but I love Cramer too. I knew exactly what you were referencing. I'm sorry your feeling so down lately. I'm sure your ex moving on is the root of this and really there's probably no way around these feelings at least for a bit. You just need to work through them. I agree with everyone else, don't worry so much if your ready physically (because, yes I'm married, but I still have eyes and your super hot to me - course, I love your humor). If you jump into the dating too soon, it'll become more about making yourself feel good the wrong ways. I know I know, it's really okay for guys to be sluts in our society, but is that really what your looking for? It doesn't really sound like it... Believe me, banging hot chicks might make me feel good for one night or two, but with my husband of 13 years the bang is a lot better and lasts a lot longer |

I think so, especially without exercise. About two years ago I lost about 50 lbs due to bad medicine with no healthy eating and exercise. I was about 20 lbs lower than I am now, but wearing the same size I am now. I can definatly see the difference adding exercise into my equation has made. |

I'm a little surpised and intriged by this fact. It just seems off that fruit would be fatty... Gee, thanks for making me use my brain so dang early |

P.S. I viewed your before and after pics and you are absolutely gorgeous and my guess is yes, your cousin has some jealousy issues. (For one, even in your before picture, your still gorgeous) Personally, I might feel a little uncomfortable about my doctor discussing me with someone else. There are actually laws against that these days (HIPPA). But he/she may have just been meaning to convey the compliment. |

I think there must be... Someone always has to have something to add. I had a great uncle when excitedly told him I'd lost 26 lbs (he was always telling me how worried he was about my health) he promptly told me it looked like I could use losing another 26 lbs. No compliments on what I had accomplished. At the time, I just ate it and held in the pain because he was generously paying for my college education. I now wish I had stuck up for myself a little, it may have helped my self esteem a little and helped to prevent me from getting to where I am today (no I don't blame him for where I am, but my reaction to his comment and my general lack of self esteem). |

Original Post by roj47: I'm with roj47 on this one. Most of my tracking is done at work and I only have a few minutes at a time to do my calorie counting and visit posts. Although, now that I've found how to find my posts, it is alot easier. I also have had a few "dumb" questions, where I really was just looking for some support and re-assurance and never really got a response. I think I got one, but I didn't understand it. Finally I took the question to my doc and decided to go with his recomendation (which is probably what most people should do, but we don't LOL |

I haven't really paid a whole lot of attention to if I lose around ovulation (I'm not sure if I'd know when exactly that is I have noticed my appitite increasing by huge amounts though. I don't think I ever noticed that before I started tracking (except the obvious chocolate craving... What's with that? Is there some scientific explanation? LOL). Now you've got me curious and I may take my calander and compare it to my weight chart to see if there is a pattern. If I get around to that, I'll try and remember to come back to this post and let you know what I find :). |

I've never tried it on this site, but have with a diet software I used to use called "Diet Power." It really messed with my numbers because your burn rate should take your regular day to day activities into account. I also sit at a 'puter about 9 hrs a day. When I had my burn meter on sedentary, I did log activities such as filing, but now that I've upped it to light activity since I work out on a regular basis now, I don't log those things. My recomendation (and I'm no expert) would be if your interest, give it a try for a day or two and see what happens. You can always delete the activity if you don't like the way it's working your system. |

A little off topic, but what's "Spinning?" I thought it was on a stationary bike? But I'm very much an exercise newbie so it wouldn't surprise me if I was mistaken. One of the reasons I'm using this sight is because everything I learned about exercise and healthy eating I learned watching TV from the couch LOL!! (Not totally true, but not to far from it either). |

That's sooo funny that I see ya'll's post today about cake. For the last few months, I've been able to avoid and turn it down. I'm not a huge cake fan anyways. Well today, one of the mangers brought each of us HR Specialists a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting and strawberries. I couldn't resist (besides, it was a very sweet and thoughtful thing) and ate one small piece. I'll just be careful the rest of the day. Maybe eat my apple instead of my 100 calorie snack bar. And a light supper tonight and I'll be okay. I have to say, it was sooo worth the wait. The others I've denied have been store bought and this was homemade and very tasty. Now I'm going to go wrap the left overs and put them in the fridge for my hubby who can eat a horse and still lose weight |

I totally understand what your talking about and what you feel may behind those feelings. I also agree that it may have to do with the attention. I get extremly uncomfortable, especially since my loss isn't as great as it could/should be. So I just turn it around and exclaim on how great I feel since I've made these changes and rub in the fact that I eat chocolate every day |

Thanks for the encouragment. My numbers aren't going down as fast as I'd like, but they are going down (and up and down LOL)... My doc is very pleased with my progress and how I'm getting there, so I do my best to take that cue and be pleased as well. One thing that makes it much easier (yet harder in some aspects) is that I've really tried to make my goals about "health" not weight loss. It makes it easier in that it really is a life change and it's easier to forgive myself for "falling off the wagon" so to speak. It also makes it harder, because I don't track as strictly as some others who've seen great losses. I know I could lose faster, but I don't want to deny myself anything, I want to learn what will keep me healthy and have it become second nature. |

Original Post by jef9up: WOW!! I've never thought about eating that soon after waking up. I'm just barely out of bed by then. Because of time, I wait to eat until I get at work, about 1.5 hrs after waking up. Even on weekends, its usually 1-2 hrs before breakfast is served. I'm not sure I could stomach food right away, but I have fairly bad Acid Reflux and can't eat for at least 30 minutes because of my medicine. You have given me "food" for thought |
