Games & Challenges January Calorie Deficit Challenge - Newcomers always welcome! Jan 14 2009

I'm signing up! I know that the month is half over, so since I normally would have wanted to be in the 8 pound group, I'm going to try for 4 pounds in two weeks. So, I guess i want to put myself in the  14,000 challenge group.

I started keeping track of my deficit on the 12th, so for two days (12/13 of Jan), here's my deficit:

2942/14,000

Yay! I'm excited!

Not under 5'4", but definitely excited for the challenge! Since I kept track of yesterday, too, I'll send you yesterday's data as well as todays!

Why have I joined? I'm the heaviest girl (by a lot) in my sorority, all y sisters a thinner than me, and I'm unhappy with my weight the way it is! I know that I need other people to keep me accountable, and so even though this is my first slimming minis challenge I know it will help!

I'm in too! And Kate (creativespirit) and I are weight loss buddies all ready! woo hoo! Anyway, I went off to college a few years ago at something close to 170, and wanted to get down to about 150, and when I joined here three weeks ago I was at 186.9. I'm down to 180 now, which is good, and I still want to get down to 150 by the end of the summer so when I come back for my senior year I'm looking good and still losing!

Poof - your company hit it big and is successful - but it's so successful that your CEO and CFO get away with millions stashed in an offshore account!

I wish I had someone to clean for me all of the time.

Weight Loss Can't sleep hungry. Any suggestions? Feb 06 2008

Hey!

I agree with pretty much everyone else here that it doesn't really matter when you eat your snack, as long as you're within your calorie limit. Try not to consume anything with too much sugar or citric acid though. I like 1/2 cup of granola or a Special K bar myself. Sometimes I really like those 100 calorie pack of oreos right before bed.

My piece of original advice however, is maybe to look into  hypnosis track? I know it sounds totally weird, but a few weeks ago I noticed I was having a really hard time falling asleep, and it was affecting everything in my day. I went on iTunes and was looking through podcasts and saw one by Dr. Michael White. He had tracks about everything, but the only one I downloaded was called "The Best Sleep Ever!". I listened to it and it did put me to sleep! The first time I heard it I fell right asleep after the first play through, but since listening to it a few times a week I've noticed that it takes two plays through the track to get to bed. The track is only  few minutes long though, so that's still awesome.

Anyway, that's my advice! Hope it helps!

Hey Tina -

I know how you feel, I just got over a cold myself. If I were you I wouldn't exercise. The more you rest and get fluids, the quicker you'll get over the cold. If you're worried about maintaining your calorie count, I would try low sodium chicken broth and whole-wheat toast, or something similar to that.

Have you ever heard of a Neti pot? That's another thing I've started using to help me get over my cold. It's been on Oprah, but its been used in ayurdevic healing for a really long time. It sounds kind of gross - but it really works! You take a Neti Pot (you can buy them at Walgreens, Walmart, wherever) and fill it with  saline solution (sea salt, or anything not iodized, with warm water), tilt your head over a sink down and to one side, and then - wait for it - pour the solution in one nostril while keeping your mouth pen and breathing. It runs through the nasal passages and out the other nostril, cleaning as it goes. If you're SUPER stuffed up it won't work properly, but otherwise you'll breathe MUCH better afterwards. Do it every day for a few days and you'll clear right up!

Hope this helps! Feel better!

Foods energy drinks Jan 20 2008

I would definitely agree and say that energy drinks are saviors in todays busy world. Sugar-free redbulls are my personal poison of choice.

BUT - you asked if any one had experienced any sort of side effects. At one point lat year I was drinking about 3 energy drinks every day for a week or two. When I stopped not only was my sleep schedule severely affected, but my heart would palpitate. It was kind of scary. Even to this day when I have an energy drink my heart does a little jump.

I would really cut back to MAYBE one a day. Try to drink half at one time and half later? There are, as you say, two to three servings per can.

I've definitely found that if I keep food in my room I eat it. So I try to only keep the sugar-free Jello and a few pieces of fruit in my room at a time. Definitely a better strategy than filling up on sour cream and onion pringles!

I personally like to add just a TINY bit of vanilla concentrate to the yogurt. This should be great for you, especially if you liked the Danon Lite n Fit vanilla. But the frozen orange juice concentrate is also good. Also, if you're into texture, you can try taking just a few of the Oreo cookies from a 100 Calorie Pack and smashing them before adding them to your yogurt. Low fat/low sugar and surprisingly delicious!
