| Maintaining | I feel like I'm gaining, but I'm not | Feb 19 2009 21:10 (UTC) |

it is highly unlikely that i am pregnant. i think my body composition is changing, but i'm not sure why. i think i should be gaining muscle, because I am working out more, but if that were the case, i would be looking smaller, but weighing the same or more. i don't know. it could be a mental thing, but for the stretch marks. they're real. and new. i don't know. thanks for your reply. |

I liked the flavor of activia. It tasted less sweet to me than a lot of other kinds. I also like the danactive kind. Those fiber one bars made me ill, so proceed cautiously with them.

| Weight Loss | Stress Eating | Jul 31 2008 18:38 (UTC) |

I agree with changing what is in your pantry...if it isn't there, you can't eat it. I am under an undue amount of stress at work and home almost all of the time these days and there are a couple of things that keep me sane: excercise and counseling. Excercise keeps the nervous energy in check and boosts your energy if you are worn out: take a jog, go for a walk, and (my favorite) do some yoga. And, with each of them, I find that the positive self-talk really helps combat the stress. Instead of thinking how hot it is and how I have to work out, I think about how I am doing such a good job taking care of my body. When I am trying to get into those difficult poses in yoga class, I think about how much more flexible I am now than I was a year ago. Also, yoga is really great for putting things into perspective. At the end of the the class, I always think about letting go of those things that I can't control. I hope that helps. It has been a revelation for me to say nice things instead of mean things to myself. |

I posted this same question a while back... First, congratulations on your progress! Second, if there is a Buffalo Exchange in your area and your old clothing is in good condition and fashionable, you may be able to sell it there. I sold most of my old clothes there and had $150 or so in store credit to get things in my new size. I have stabilized at my current size/ weight and I did splurge on some foundation items for work... about $200 at the Talbots Outlet has pretty much outfitted me for every day of the work week. All the best! |

just wanted to caution you about 4-5 drinks when you are decreasing calories/ losing weight. I have lost about 20 pounds and I cannot drink what I could when I started. At least you will be at your own home, but this is something to really consider if you are out somewhere... not too cool to be the drunk girl. |

| Health & Support | Runners? Walkers? Anyone... :-) Need advice regarding whelps?/heat rash?/red blotches on legs with treadmill walking... | Jun 13 2008 20:10 (UTC) |

I'm not sure if it is the same thing, but I would get heat rash on my upper legs when I biked a whole bunch...like 75 miles in a day. I had diaper rash ointment on hand for other problems that stem from biking so much and I put it on the heat rash and it went away immediately. Like I said, I'm not sure if it is the same, but it probably wouldn't hurt to try. |

| Fitness | running outside was waay harder than I thought | Jun 13 2008 16:00 (UTC) |
|
I just think that running outside versus on a treadmill are different activities. I was running outside until recently, when it got very hot here. I went to the gym and ran on the treadmill for the same time, same pace (average of 6 mph) that I run outside and I was really sore for a couple days after. I also find myself getting really hot on the treadmill, because there is no wind, even if there is ac... my solution has been to change to biking and swimming for the summer...so far so good. |

I am 2 lbs from my goal and am starting to move on to my other goals. I have 2: 1: Complete a half-triathalon by the time I am 30. I am 28 now. 2: Improve my upper body strength so that I can do a pull-up by the time I am 30. Even when I played college field hockey I could not do one. |

yeah. i went from 5'6 179 and a 38C to 165 and a 36a/b. As far as measurements...I have gone down 4 inches in the bust. Ah well. it was nice while it lasted. I'm pretty sure I have good genes cause my mom is over 50 and has had 3 kids and can still go without a bra...not that she does. I am back to not needing anything more than a triangle bra...at least i never lose the hips. |

I think it tastes horrible. But, then, I don't really have much of a sweet tooth, so I just do without. If you do try it, I would suggest using it sparingly, as it is a really strong flavor. |

| Health & Support | Weight-Loss Depression | Apr 28 2008 16:29 (UTC) |

I noticed this at first... I am on antidepressants and I wonder if the weight loss affected the way my medication was working for a little while. It seems to have corrected itself as I continue to eat healthy and exercise. A friend of mine once told me that when he starts feeling out of sorts, he takes inventory... Is he thirsty? Sleepy? Hungry? Needing some exercise? He said that 9 times out of ten, he just needs to drink some water, go for a walk, have a snack, or take a nap. This was good advice for me. Another thing I realized was that I need more sleep when I am more active. I was getting 7 hours or so before and that is just not adequate for me when I am exercising 4 days a week. |

| Weight Loss | clothing while you're "in the middle" and when do you buy new clothes? | Apr 25 2008 22:20 (UTC) |

thanks everyone! I plan on going through my clothes when I get home from work tonight and putting them in 3 piles: sell to Buffalo Exchange, take to the thift store, get taken in. I have a lot of nice, pretty recently purchased jeans and work clothes that I think Buffalo Exchange will buy. If you get store credit, you get more for your clothes, so I will do that and use some of the credit to get something for work in my current size. I will hold on to the rest of the credit until I lose a little more, or need something for a particular occasion. I have a couple of very flattering and recently purchased dresses that I am going to take to a tailor.

most chinese fast food places have a "diet menu" with steamed veggies and some of the soups are okay. If they have brown rice, you might be okay. I don't find steamed veggies with white rice very filling. For me, that's a good way to be really hungry in a couple of hours. |

my guess is that you would be fine to have some. ne clam chowder is very rich, so if anything bothers you, it may be the heavy cream before the clams. |

| Weight Loss | What Am I Doing Wrong? | Apr 09 2008 16:44 (UTC) |

I don't think you are doing anything wrong, except for maybe weighing yourself too often. You have lost 3 pounds in one week, which is at the upper limit of healthy weight loss. You are doing a great job and should keep it up. |

Soups (Hot and Sour or wonton) and steamed dumplings might also be good choices. Steamed veggies and rice are the best choice for low fat, but you might do better on calories with a soup.

Has to be the dude who is grunting loudly, trying to lift a weight that is too heavy for him to lift in a controlled way, so he is banging the weights together then dropping them on the ground at the end of the set. I especially like it when the same guy comes over to give me "tips" on lifting...as if i'm the one who doesn't know what i'm doing. an embarrassing moment? that time i tried to play racquetball

| Weight Loss | We say we will, but will we? | Mar 18 2008 21:27 (UTC) |

I think we can always find some problem with our appearance. It matters a lot more what we are projecting. At my heaviest, around 190, I rode my bike a lot, renovated a house, did volunteer work and activism, and did awesome sewing and arts and craft stuff. I was happy with what I was doing in my life and it came across. I had plenty of dates, including with one of the best looking people I have ever dated (very fit guy who was a bike messenger and practiced martial arts, and was also very smart and sweet). He didn't think I was fat, he thought I was hot. At my smallest, around 125, I also rode my bike a lot, but I had dropped out of college and was working as a manager at a gym, living at home, and going through my first big breakup. Looking back at pictures of myself, I was very good looking, but I didn't feel like I was. I had no self-confidence and I needed to change so many things in my life. What I'm saying is that the weight isn't what makes us happy or not. It's the other stuff... are you challenged intellectually or professionally? are you learning new things? do you feel healthy? are your relationships in order? do you get enough exercise and eat good food? are you looking at art you like and listening to music you like? are you doing anything to help other people? if you're not happy, you should probably look at changing these things.

Original Post by madronam: Hey folks, how do you think medications are developed? First, they are tested on animals, then they are tested on people. You can decide how you feel about this, but I would strongly urge you to decide that there are limits. At some point, you just have to face the reality that you can't live a zero-impact life. It's not all or nothing. |
