| The Lounge | Do you use self tanners? | Oct 30 2009 18:40 (UTC) |

Ok I'll admit it I visit the tanning bed once or twice a week it is included in my gym membership. I am a naturally pale person but I tan easily. When I don't tan my legs are so pale they look bluish because you can faintly see the veins. I only tan once or twice per week because then I don't actually look tan I just don't look freakishly white. Plus in the summer it helps me not to burn in the real sun. Before I started tanning even with 45+spf sunblock I would still burn at the beach. |

this thread made me LOL because I can remember the morning when I looked in the mirror to put on my makeup and saw my collarbone. If someone had seen me they would have thought I had won the lottery. |

| The Lounge | What do you do when you just don't want to? | Oct 20 2009 18:54 (UTC) |

It depends, yesterday I had a very long and stressful day at work and the last thing I wanted to do was go to the gym. So I went to the supermarket and bought some meats and veggies and then went home and cooked enough food for three dinners and three lunches. Now for the rest of the week I don't have to worry about cooking so I will be more inclined to go to the gym since I know dinner is waiting on me when I do get home. |

I live in the US in North Carolina and squash is something I will add. I like the flavor, I just never buy them since I don't know how to cook them. The brisket sounds yummy and like something my husband would eat as well :) what are brassicas? |

| Weight Loss | Has anyone successfully shrunk their thighs? | Oct 12 2009 21:34 (UTC) |
|
I lost about 50lbs and my thighs did shrink 4 inches in each to be exact however, they are still proportionately large compared to the rest of my body. Every one has a different way that their bodies are proportioned some women have large hips, breasts, or butts and just like thighs your proportions won't ever change that much. The size of your body overall will. Pears will never be hourglasses and apples will never be pears, ya know what I mean. |

Not everyone has the same side effects from medicines. When I was on birth control I gained 7lbs in just 6 months, after going off of it and NOT changing my habits the weight came off. It also caused migraines and that does not happen to everyone either. |

| Weight Loss | Metabolic Types...Are you eating what you should? | Oct 07 2009 17:25 (UTC) |

jimmy if you are using this site to record your calories then you can just click on analysisand it will show you your percentages. I try to achieve the balance at every meal and then use my snacks to balance it out. For example after I enter in my breakfast if I see I am lower on the fat percentage than I want to be I would have some almonds for a snack or if I am low on protein I might have cottage cheese. It is almost never perfect but I can usually keep it close to the desired percentages. After a while it becomes instinctual like when I started I had to weigh and measure my food but now I can eyeball 3oz of meat or a cup of cereal. |

I don't think that it is necessary to follow the typing to lose weight, that is basically calories in vs calories out. I think typing refers to how you feel while you are restricting the calories. If I eat more carbs even if they are complex carbs I find myself hungry again much more quickly then if I were to have more protein and fat. I remember when the low fat thing was in I have never felt so hungry in all my life way too much carbs. |

| Weight Loss | When to buy new pants? | Oct 05 2009 20:33 (UTC) |

I was going to say the same thing I work in a professional environment so I wore a lot of skirts, with the elastic waist not the zipper, and dresses. When it started to get colder I would wear tights or knee high boots. I went from an 18 to a 10 there were just too many sizes in between to keep buying new pants. |

I had something similar happen to me last year and it was my galbladder. Apparently with the change from eating fatty foods to meals with low fat or no fat in them my galbladder was having trouble dispensing the right amount of bile and it caused the discomfort. Dr. told me to try having a little fat with every meal like a piece of cheese or cooking my veggies and lean protiens with a tbs of olive oil and wait and see if my galbadder regulated itself if not he said they would have to take it out. After a couple of uncomfortable months the problem went away thankfully. |

| Weight Loss | Husband doesn't want me to lose weight | Sep 29 2009 20:32 (UTC) |
|
My husband was supportive in the beginning but after I lost 30 lbs he started to sabotage me a bit he kept saying that I had lost enough and that he did not want me to get "too skinny" and that he likes curvy women. So I just stopped making a big deal out of it. I would not tell him if I lost weight or went to the gym. I made a point of being the one who did the cooking and the shopping. After a while it was not an issue anymore. |

For me the man reason is shopping. I love to shop for new clothes and I love fashion, but there is nothing fun or fashionable about being a size 18. I am now a size 10 and shopping is fun again :) |

| Maintaining | so you're maintaining and gain a few pounds--how do you react? what changes do you make? | Sep 24 2009 18:02 (UTC) |
8 |
I've been maintaining for almost two years I don't weigh myself that often I just go by how my clothes fit. If my jeans are fitting a little tighter then usual I don't assume they shrunk in the dryer (when I gained my weight that was always my first thought lol) I know I need to get on the scale. For me after about 6lbs or so my clothes fit differently. If I have indeed gained I start working out 4 or 5 days per week instead of 3 and I start weighing my food again and logging my calories. For me sometimes it is as simple as refreshing myself on what 3oz of meat looks like or what a serving of cereal in the bowl should be. |

I love the hersheys Bliss dark chocolate they come individually wraped and a serving of 3 has only 100 calories. It takes me about 15min to eat as I let each one melt slowly. This is a treat I enjoy every night at only 100 calories I can fit it in to my 1600 cal budget :) |

I am 24yo 5'4'' and weigh 175lbs, at this weight I am a size 12. I am top heavy and feel my best at 165 which puts me at a size 10. If I lose more weight than that people around me start commenting on the fact that I should stop losing weight and that I am looking too thin. I am a 36ddd so I start to look funny if I get too thin. So even though I am still technically overweight I feel fit and look good at 165. |

I think that it is ok that they serve meals that are that high in calories. I just think that they should have to post the calorie totals on the menu. They have to post prices you don't just order your meal and then get a surprise when the bill comes and you shouldn't order a meal and then get a surprise when you step on the scale either IMHO |

| Weight Loss | Do you believe in metabolic typing? | Oct 07 2008 17:43 (UTC) |
|
I do believe in metabolic typing. If I start the day with say whole grain toast and a piece of fruit or oatmeal I will be starving just an hour later. If I start with an egg white omelet with a slice of ham and 2% cheese, I'm full till 11 or 12. Same goes for lunch whole grain pasta or a salad hungry by 2 if I have a chicken breast with broccoli or a piece of salmon with green beans I'm satisfied till 4 or 5. I definitely don't do well with carbs even if they are from fruits or whole grains. I find that the lower my carbs for the day and the higher the protein the less calories I eat and the more satisfied I feel. I tend to eat 25%fat 35% protein 40% carb when I am experiencing the most consistent weight loss. |

| Weight Loss | Is a 3.8 weight gain after a bad week-end expected?! | Sep 29 2008 19:12 (UTC) |

I know the feeling this morning I was 5 yes 5lbs heaver than on Friday morning :( I did eat 2900 calories on Sunday but really FIVE Pounds. It is so frustrating but logically I know I did not gain that much from going 1000 calories over maintenance. I know I'll be going to the gym this afternoon :) |

| Motivation | I want to lose 60 lbs and so scared. | Sep 24 2008 19:41 (UTC) |

Hi I started at 215 and now I'm at 170 os 45lbs down. I've been at this weight for a few months now and I think that I would like to loose about 10 or 15 more. I did start to notice some loose skin on my thighs they went from 28in to 23.5 and the skin just is not as tight as it used to be, but I do not have any loose skin anywhere else. Take it slow and steady start by just doing 20 min of cardio then add 10min of weights. Make small goals and celebrate each one met. Always keep in mind that in order for the weight to stay off it has to be a lifestyle change. And always remember that YOU CAN DO IT, it is a decision that only you can make. |

| Weight Loss | At what point do you start getting loose skin?! | Sep 18 2008 17:10 (UTC) |
|
I've gone from 215 to 170 and I don't have any loose skin on my arms or belly but I carried most of the weight in my hips and thighs. My thighs went from 28in to 23in and the loose skin there is noticeable. |

| Weight Loss | Sweet Tooth Advice | Sep 11 2008 18:19 (UTC) |

I had a horrible sweet tooth when I started my "new lifestyle". The cravings were so strong I simply could not resist. I did figure out that eating simple carbs ie. crackers, white bread, corn, pasta, triggered these cravings by switching to whole grains and adding more fiber the cravings are now few and far between. |

Thanks for your encouragement. I've worked so hard this time trying to get it right and now that I am near my goal I don't want to mess it up. Like you said a permanent diet does not sound like fun. But portion control I think I can manage and I do enjoy my evening workouts. |

| Weight Loss | zigzagging calories a good idea? | Sep 08 2008 17:34 (UTC) |
1 |
I've been zig-zagging for a while how I did it was I used the calorie count recommendation and then applied the following math 75% Monday 115% Tuesday 75% Wednesday 115% Thursday 75% Friday 95% Saturday 150% Sunday This gives you a weekly average of the cc recommendation but varies it up enough that your body doesn't know what to expect. Sometimes I switch Saturday and Sunday just depending on what my weekend plans look like. My dad used to be a body builder and this is the formula he always used. |

| Weight Loss | Started phentermine today! | Aug 13 2008 19:20 (UTC) |
|
HI, I took phentermine for 2 months then 1 month off and then 2 months on last year it helped me get back in control of my eating habits and gave me the energy to start hitting the gym again I went from 215 to 177 over that time. I have been off of it since January and have lost an additional 7lbs so far this year by keeping track of my calories on this site and continuing to hit the gym on a regular basis. The only side effects I had was occasional insomnia and dry mouth. It was prescribed by my doctor and the my whole program was medically supervised. I feel like it gave me the jump start I needed. Now I am able to continue the good habits that I formed while on the pill. I went from a size 18 down to a size 10. I do not regret taking it. Being 215 is not healthy for a 5'4'' woman. I used it as a jump start to a healthy lifestyle. No regrets here. |
