Weight Loss I am so Depressed Right Now! May 28 2008

Hi Brittney! I agree with what Laura is telling you - you CAN do this. You are so young and have your whole life ahead of you.  Taking a new path (the healthy one) can be a little scary, but think of the quality years you are adding to your life as a result of your healthy choices. I am also a mom, and I would be so proud to see my children doing what you are, on top of going to University, which can be stressful! My advice to you is to not go to extremes with the dieting, make sure you get at least your minimum calories every day. In your picture you look like a very confident and happy person. When you feel low think of  what you were feeling when the picture was taken, and I'm sure you will feel better! Best of luck to you! (Oh yeah, and if your Dr. gives you a hard time and no support, get a new Doctor!)

Pregnancy & Parenting 23 Weeks Pregnant and Overeating!! Feb 13 2008

I am such a stress eater, and was so stressed out during my first pregnancy. I was working 2 jobs and was 19 at the time, so I ate a LOT! Doritos, chicken fingers, caesar salads, I ate everything I could! I ended up gaining 80 lbs, and because of my olive skin, I still have a lot of stretch marks. I also blew a lot of veins in my legs, so I had to have 2 surgeries to fix the damage internally and go twice a year for injections into surface veins. I lost the weight that I gained and became much more health conscious than I was before I became a mommy, I now run and do triathlons. In second pregnancy, needless to say, I gained and ate much healthier.

All that being said, at 23 weeks, 10 lbs does not seem like a lot of weight to me. what is you doctor saying?  I have heard that "What to eat when you are expecting" (from the "What to expect" series) is quite good. If you are craving something it is you body telling you that it needs something. If you are eating because you are bored, it may be a good time to do something else (I took up embroidering a blanket for my second baby). Best of luck with your pregnancy and enjoy being a mommy! Mine are 13 and 8, and I have loved every minute so far!

I'm giving up eating after 7:00 pm. Drinks like smoothies, are ok though. I have been trying to nip my night eating habit for some time! Hopefully this will do it!

I would get a different Doctor. Any physician that does not take the time to listen to your concerns or take you seriously could be missing something.  I have read chewing a lot of gum can make you gassy, because you end up swallowing air.
Fitness When you first started cardio... Jan 22 2008

Hi. I have read many places that a mix of different cardio is good, as it challenges different muscle groups for a balance. The elliptical is a nice change and is similar to running for me, the thing that you are missing when using it is impact though, which can help reduce your chance of developing osteoperosis later on in life. As you build muscle it is really important to get enough calcium, or your muscles will take it from your bones. I think variety and moderation are keys in fitness. The elliptical is lots of fun, but I mix it in with walking, running, etc. so I get the impact. Wishing you good health!
