it took a couple months for me to take all meat away from my diet. i was gradually cutting meat out of my diet and it was sort of like one week i was just cutting back on meat then after the weekend i decided i'd stop altogether. |

Yeah, I guess I sort of faded meat out of my diet. Originally I was just trying to reduce my meat intake just to be healthier and then I decided I would kind of go cold-turkey and stop eating any meat at all, becoming a vegetarian. |

| Vegetarian | Teen Veg*ns: How did you tell your parents? | Jun 17 2008 22:14 (UTC) |

My change to a vegetarian lifestyle was a transition. I had already been cutting down on meat for a few months so it was easier to tell my mom I decided to become a full-on vegetarian. I just told her straight out. She's accepting and supports all my decisions so it was pretty easy. The rest of my family is a whole other story. I have not yet told my dad or my relatives or anything. I'm going to be moving out in a couple months so I think it'll be easier when I'm away. |

| Young Calorie Counters | Please help! Can't eat healthy. | Mar 20 2008 22:33 (UTC) |

If you're not feeling full maybe you should try some filling healthy foods like those with a high water content like watermelon or cantaloupe or something. Even if you add potatoes or sweet potato to your diet ,like as a side dish in dinner, a couple times a week that can help curve your hunger because those foods are very filling so you won't have to worry about snacking. Another thing, substitute fruits for the junk food. Again, they have a higher water content and are filling. Apples and bananas are really food snacks and keep me full. And yes, you might just have to work up your willpower. If you feel like crap after eating all that junk then think about that feeling before you make the decision and go for something healthier. You can start eating healthy if you want to really badly, it's a conscious decision. Good luck! |

| Foods | Sandwich fillings | Mar 20 2008 22:19 (UTC) |

Fill it with some leafy greens: spinach, kale, romaine lettuce, etc. Use a lean meat, I prefer the vegetarian lunch meat because they're lower in fat and I'm a vegetarian. A nice spread would be like hummus or something. You could also fill it with like peppers, mushrooms, onion rings, anything that isn't too soggy. |

I think you should do what you feel is right for you. If you're not going to be happy at your current weight and if dropping a few pounds will make you feel better about yourself then I think that's worth it. |

| Young Calorie Counters | help, calories! | Mar 17 2008 20:46 (UTC) |
|
I agree. Stick with something you're comfortable with. I'm 5'2 and 101 pounds and I aim for 1300 calories a day but that's just a ballpark number that I try to get to. If I'm full, I won't eat anymore and if I'm hungry then I'll eat something. Also, I am not underweight or whatever. It depends on your frame and metabolism and whatnot. So if you're getting like 1800 or whatever number then take into account other factors. |
