omg yes best way to work out ever. I remember summers ago when my friend Kim and I would go to her house after school every day and just play DDR. We eventually both made it to heavy mode and would get so hot in the summer weather we'd end up playing in bras and shorts so we didn't leave sweat stains on our clothes. haha. I love it because you don't think of it as a work out but after when your exausted sipping water on the couch you really feel the burn and its amazing. I just got my hubby a ps3 for graduating basic training from the army and I can't wait to get DDR for it! |

| Young Calorie Counters | anyone who pierce their ears before..i need your help please. | Mar 08 2008 20:55 (UTC) |

I have a lot of piercings and have done some myself in my ears and my nose. The best way in my opinion to treat infection is with anti-biotic ointment once in the morning and once at night. Apply it and twist the earing and slide it around to get it in the hole. If it gets infected DON'T take out the piercing because it'll be incredibly hard to get it back in, unless you've had the piercing for a long time. For a cheap treatment mix salt in some water and cleanse it with that until you can get something better. |

| Health & Support | What has been your biggest binge? (calorie wise)...PLEASE REPLY | Mar 03 2008 19:28 (UTC) |

oh my gosh don't get me started, when I was bulimic I'd binge like crazy on whatever I could get my hands on. It wasn't healthy because I'd just take whatever I could and say 'its alright I'll just get rid of it later' In the last stages I'd have: A full 12'' meatball hero with extra cheese (1,200) A pint of Ben and Jerry's Brownie Batter (1,240) Two cinnamon Rolls with frosting (600) A Flurry with recess peanut butter cups and caramel swirled in (960) three chocolate chip cookies (360) A piece of chocolate mouse cake (450) King size Peanut Butter Cups (330)
allll in one sitting. Thats about 5,000 calories. Then I'd work on getting it out of me. It was sickening and stupid, By the end of the binge the food wouldn't even taste good or appetizing, I was just eating to eat. I mean come on, when your eating ben and jerry's brownie batter ice cream and you say to yourself 'wow this tastes bitter' you know you've gone too far. Ben and Jerry's is amazing! Bulimia is horrible, my goal was to eat a whole birthday cake by myself. Blech. |

| Weight Loss | A week of .... too much calories - how can I back on track??? | Feb 24 2008 19:17 (UTC) |

I have the exact same problem. This past week I went crazy, went down to Georgia and took a break from school. The drive down all we did was eat fast food and drink soda. Starting today since its a new week I started back on track right away, no snacking or anything. I'm pretty scared to step on the scale, but I'll give myself till Friday to even things out, I know for sure I gained Just try to get back on schedual cold turkey as best you can. Even if you can't excersize. I've actually found that since I've been eating so much I haven't felt hungry all day even though I've been eating pretty sparsley. |

Its not good because it means your concentrating way to much on food and your getting into a disorder stage. I used to do that when I was bulimic. You do absorb calories from that, especially sugars which can be absorbed right through the mouth. If you want to taste something have a few bites, its not going to hurt you and then hopefully the craving will be gone once you've got it out of the way. Spitting stuff back out is gross. |

I started right away eating 1300 calories a day after being at about 600-700 a day and sticking to or above it no matter what. The first one to two weeks yeah you'll gain a bit of weight but then your body will catch up with you and start to process your food how it should be. Your metabolism with raise and if you add a little excersize you'll be good to go. |

The worst memories for me are just the pain I would feel in my throat from the stomach acid ripping it apart. One day I had binged with the intention of throwing it all up, brownies, cookies, peanut butter cups, chocolate, milk shake, everything I could find that was sweet and succulent. It was so much to throw up that I was at it for half an hour. That night I woke up sweating and shaking, crying because my head was splitting open from the pain and my throat was numb. I didn't know what to do. It was four in the morning I was alone and I didn't have any pain medication. I ended up popping four sleeping pills to knock me out. I've never had such a horrible headache before in my life. I felt like food didn't taste as good anymore or as rich and really felt like I was melting away my taste buds with stomach acid. It was horrible. The lingering numbness in your throat after a binge for the following days is the worst thing I think I've ever experienced. |

salt retains tonnns of water. If you eat one pickle, you'll hold onto a whole extra pound of water the next day!
Its best to try and stay under 1000 mg of sodium. Since its just water weight it'll come off much faster than real weight. |

Alrighty, I never knew how to properly take care of myself. I never knew about portion control, proper calorie intake or any of that. All I knew is that you should exercise every once in awhile from a very young age. I was always involved in sports, skiing, basketball, softball, all kinds of things, but I ate a lot, usually never breakfast and all late afternoon to evening snacking. My lowest I remember being throughout middle and high school was a whopping 140 at 5'7". I just gained and topped out at around 160 by senior year. I didn't even realize I was overweight or needed to change my ways. In high school I started running after school Monday Wednesday and Friday’s a little bit every day to try and slim down, but I hated it with a passion and really didn't get into it. I really hated my body and myself and took it out on my body by trying to get into throwing up and restricting calories but I just couldn't will myself to do it. (Thank God) By the time I got to college I had never had a real boyfriend, was incredibly shy and very self conscious. The gym was free so I began going all the time, doing cardio and light weights. I lost a lot of weight, got down to about 145 and met my first real boyfriend half way through the year and immediately wanted to hold onto the most amazing person I had ever met. I started researching, upping my exercise and watching what I ate, not too strictly but enough. I got down to 133 with diet and exercise and was so proud of myself. Now I was at a healthy weight but a bit flabby and gross from the weight I was at in high school (talk about stretch marks, I thought only pregnant women got those). I wanted to tighten up so I'm at where I am now doing cardio an hour a day and weight training four days a week with two days of yoga. It’s a lot, but I've never felt or looked this good in my life and along with counting calories its just getting better. Now I'm at a healthy weight of 122. As long as I fall anywhere between 115-125 I'm good with myself and I let myself fluxuate between those ten pounds. So I guess I owe it all to the boy. I'm so much more educated and healthy now. hooray |

I could neeeever run when I was younger in high school so I'd job and take a lot of breaks. Once I hit college I made a pretty good plan for myself. I started by running three miles. I'd do the first mile straight running, walk half a mile, jog half a mile, walk half a mile and jog the last half mile. I did this for a week, then upped it. I'd run a mile and a half straight, walk half a mile, run half a mile walk half a mile. By the third week I'd be doing two straight and every week I'd run straight further. You've got to be gentle and pace yourself. I've been doing this for awhile and am now up to four miles straight, walk a quarter mile, run 3/4 of a mile, walk a quarter mile, run 3/4 mile. Six miles a day and I'm working up to running 6 straight. I've done it before but then got injured and had to start over again. I know you can do it! Best of luck! |

I think its good to have support for recoverees trying to eat healthy. When I joined up I was mia pretty bad and I'd chew food and spit it out all the time. I weighed myself every morning and it would make or break my day. My first intentions to join were to track my calories which were extrememly low. By coming on this site I realized what I was doing wasn't working and a fast metabolism from excersize and proper eating habbits would do the trick. I just had to get through the first hard week of upping my calories and not seeing any loss and weighing myself once a week. It was killer but after that I could see my body getting leaner and my stomach shrinking quicker and better than ever before when I was eating 300-500 calories a day and purging to get rid of any extra. In a way joining up here really helped me, so welcome wearingthin and I hope joining helps you too. |

| I've heard that annorexics once they go into get help can start right away on a better diet and imediately get healthy. So I'm guessing that as soon as you start you'll be good. It might take a week or so to get your metabolism to catch up and you'll feel overly full and bloated if you eat more than your used to. After a little you'll be fine. | |||

Fashion models are supposed to be nothing more than walking clothes hangers. You don't even have to have a pretty face, just be able to fit the clothes and be tall enough so on a runway you can be seen from the back rows. I don't think girls should strive to be fashion model weights if there bodies fight it, its so unhealthy. Theres a reason girls that skinny aren't in playboy, its those curvy filled out girls that people prefer looking at not the pale white bones with nothing to hold on to. Theres my two cents. |

This is the best thread ever. My husband and I were married in December when he was on Christmas break from infantry training in Fort Benning, Georgia. He's supposed to get a phone call tonight and be able to tell me where he'll be stationed and where we're moving. So as you can tell I'm pretty on edge. Being away is horrible, we only get to talk via letters and the occassional 10 min phone call every other week. I'm going down with my in laws from New York for his graduation on the 22nd! Its almost here and I'm counting down the days. |

School: Class ranging anywhere from four to six hours a day depending on my schedual. For each class I try to have two hours of study time. Meaning I have about 25 hours of studying a week doing homework and understanding class work. Love Life: Husbands in basic training down in Georgia for the army. I'm stuck in New York. I spend a few hours a day everday writing to him no matter what. Sucks because newlyweds aren't supposed to spend there first few months away from each other like this. :( Family Time: They're all home, I'm at school. The parentals call occasionally and we'll talk but I really should call home and talk to my siblings more. Social Life: ha, very small. A few friends but I'm too busy to hang out most of the time. Best friends are at other schools so phone calls occasionally. Fitness: Gym six days a week, five if I'm too swamped. I usually eat in my room and don't go out to the cafeterias because I'm too tempted to swing by the bakery and get cheesecake or cookies or sugary cappucchinos. Gym is one of my top priorities aside from writing to the hubby. Work: I have a job in the painting department at my school and usually devote three to ten hours a week making a little extra money. Thats me in a nutshell pretty much. I think I'm turning into a reculse. I can't wait until this semester is over and I get to move with my husband to a new military base and we can start over. |

1500 sounds great, I hope that works for you. I'm totally with you on the sweet potatoes. Those are one of my favorite foods of all time. I wish I had some at school but I'd have to walk downtown in the freezing cold and I'm so not up for that haha. Green tea too, sometimes I'll drink a glass before each meal. Thanks for the extra support, I'm doing really well but dunno when I should start upping my calories more. I'm just so scared it'll make me gain and leave me in a horrible mood prone to relapsing. We'll see. |

I'm in Kripalu Yoga, also known as hatha yoga. I love how it makes me feel as well. My school has a gym so I'm always on the treadmills there. I couldn't run outside right now either, way too cold. I'm eating 1300 calories for weight loss right now, which is actually under what I should be eating for my work out regiment. I've been dealing with coming out of an ED though (600 calories a day and frequent bulimia) and am working on re-establishing my metbolism. I have had some almost relapse points so I'm proud of doing so well. Its been really really hard and difficult at first. I would like to eventually get up to 1600 calories a day but it might take me awhile. My target area is just my stomach. I love everything else about my body: face, hips, arms all of that. I just feel like I want to get rid of that yucky pocket on my lower tummy and I would be so happy. Its been there my entire life so believe me I know what you mean about having a hard time loosing. My perfect goal weight would be anywhere between 115 to 120, letting myself fluxuate between those for a bit of liberation. What are some of your favorite diet foods? Mine are Colombo frozen yogurt milkshakes with fat free milk (180 calories each) and Pria bars (a powerbar line). I also love multi-grain crackers with organic peanut butter. mmm. I think I'll go get a frozen yogurt shake now actually. :) |

The best is to have a little blender or food chopper. I bought one from my school store for 11 bucks. I make smoothies for breakfast with yogurt and fruit and smoothies with ice/juice and other things I like to throw in. I have multi-grain wasa crackers I keep in my room and buy bean salads or humus to put on them for yummy snacks. Meal bars are also a good option for something healthy for meals cause you can just grab them from the box. Microwaves are also your best friend for things like oatmeal, eggs and soups. |

I'm 5'6.5'', usually I round up ha. I'm 19, but we're almost the same stat wise. Right now I'm at 124 and my goal is 116. I've never been as small as 105 (I wish). In high school I was actually up to a hideous 155. I work out six days a week running 5 miles and doing light weights for tone when I'm not in yoga tuesdays and thursdays. 110 is underweight for us but I can see why you want to get there, I used to want to really bad for modeling but I've decided its not worth the effort. I can model at 116 too. It'd be awesome to help each other stay on track. |

One of the most common traits of annorexia is being in control of something (your calorie and food intake) which gives you a feeling of 'power' and being good at something. I understand what you are talking about but don't let it get to your head and end up being controled by an eating disorder. I may be good to feel in control, but it feels better to be healthy and in control. Don't cut out too many calories or ana will start running your life, not you. |
