I'm still here. Trying to get myself on track. I lost 2 lbs last week, but still up 11 lbs from my lowest point this time last year.

I'm almost healed up and ready to get back to running. I should be ready to go by next week (hopefully).

Work is very crazy/busy. Ready for things to slow down! Once they do, i'll be back here regularly.

Boots! I AM SO PROUD OF YOU! and SANDY - BOOTCAMP! YES!

You both are amazing!

I'm giving myself a passing score this check-in!

Eating is back on track, i lost 2 lbs last week!

Running is on hold because I pulled my quad (painful!)

Sara,

Thanks for the message about being a part of this group for a year and a half!

Its hard to believe that I have attempted to stick with something for this long! Its dawned on me many times that this is going to be a long and hard journey and sometimes I just don't have it in me, other days I'm all for it.

Finding that balance in my life will take time. For now, I'm going to focus on my training as that seems to be the easiest part of the puzzle.  Once my body realizes how much better I train with the right nutrients, then I think the eating part will become easier for me.

Time to go ice my leg. Catch you all later!

-Meg

I'm happy to report that I controlled my eating this week and lost 2 lbs! Unfortunately I also tweaked my right quad muscle, so i'm off running for at least a week.

My eating was pretty good this week. Hopefully next week will be better!

White_Sakura - I eat a pretty standard breakfast - 2 egg omelet with a slice of cheese in the middle and one or two pieces of toast  or i have a ham, egg and cheese sandwich

I have carrots, granola bars, yogurt and special k or a piece of fruit for my snacks and lunch is a big variety. Dinner is usually mostly protein (im a big meat eater) and I'm bad about getting enough veggies...

Adding more structure to my meals might help me stick to it though, how do you do it?

Sara - i like the idea about randomizing pairs. Life is busy for me at the moment, as i have a holiday event that opens the week of thanksgiving and runs through the end of december.

My apologies that I haven't been participating much lately, but I'm working getting my life back on track so i don't feel so overwhelmed anymore.

With things so busy at work and home this week, I'm going to bow out of this weeks topic.

However, I do know why I fall off the wagon - no results. If I am getting results then its easy to keep with what I am doing, but each time i go a month with nothing to show for it... I'm off again.

With running, its easy to see results, each time I run three miles it gets easier, therefore making it easier for me to add miles at the same time.  I wish I could make eating healthy that simple for me.

The reason its so hard for me to stay on the food wagon is because I love food too much. So I have to work on changing my mindset to make that aspect of it work.

Halloween candy nearly did me in this week! I allowed myself a few pieces, but then cut  myself off! I need to get the rest of it out of my house!

Weather is absolutely beautiful this weekend. I'm getting ready to take Harley for a run and then to the dog park!

I'm happy to report that I am 100% on my goal this go around. I dropped the calorie goal to focus more intently on just one goal this period.

I'm training for a half marathon, so that is what is keeps me on track and motivates at the same time! I'm thrilled with my progress!

Running has really become therapeutic for me. I never realized how much I could love running until now. I'm running a pretty solid 3x a week... My mileage right now is at about 10mi/week. Once I hit January though, I'll start slowly building the mileage up to half marathon lengths.

Good job to everyone. Looks like we are going to be pretty successful this round!

Keep up the good work!  For those of us who are not where we want to be on goals, keep working, its still achievable!

Weekly Topic:

1. I'm tired -Since taking up running, i've found that i have more energy post run than i had before, so its almost like a cure all!!

2. Eating healthy takes too much time - making a decision to eat something with lower calories takes just as much time to make the decision in the other direction! I already make a grocery list for 2 weeks of meals, whats the problem with making those meals healthy?!

3.  Eating healthy is expensive - It is a little pricier to buy some items, but not as expensive as going out for lunch every day.  Once i start planning things out, i'll start to see more money in my pocket!

Thanks for the reminder Sara!

Running is going well, food is going ok! Gotta go - meeting a friend at the gym!

Buffalo Chicken Wraps

I'm a picky eater, so many of my recipes are better versions of old favorites.

Sara, thanks for the congratulatory note on reaching 1 yr 5 months.  This group had been the one constant in my life since i started dieting. Week in and week out i make sure i get my butt on here to check in.  Thanks for everyone's support on this journey. I appreciate you all.

To keep my sanity, I'm ditching my calorie counting goal for this go-around on the goals. My relationship with food is becoming opressive and stressful. I need a break.

Running is going great. I got out and ran 5k on Saturday morning with my dog and walked another 1.25 mi to cool down. It felt great! Looking forward to another 3mi run this afternoon. Work is busy, so I don't have much time. But I hope to check back in later this week.

Laura, Thanks for the tip... I've kinda been off and on for the past 6 months.  But you might be right, not thinking about it for a few days might help.

I've been keeping my scale hidden, so I haven't been focusing on what i weigh, but I do have some jeans i would like to fit back into...

I'm going to try to stick with just my exercise goal this round. The food goal is putting too much pressure on me... Its just so oppressive and its giving me a huge feeling of failure at the moment.

Sara, is it possible to drop my second goal and just focus on my running/exercise this time?

How do I get out of this slump?!

Hi all,

Last week was very tough food-wise, but i'm working it out slowly.

I'm running about 4 times a week and it feels great. I'm already back up to being able to do about 1.5-2 miles at a time without stopping.

Things are going great, but kinda hectic!

Sorry I haven't been interacting much lately. Just trying to balance everything that's on my plate at the moment. I'll be back to normal soon!

Welcome to all the new members!

I am a big pro-weight exerciser!  While i am going easy on weight training for the next 6 months, I do think that its important to incorporate into workouts.

Myth Busting - weights won't turn you into hulk hogan!

This week is super busy, I have to work 60+ hours this week. I probably won't make it back to check in again until sunday.

Exercise however... Is going great.

Sara - yes! Both maintenance goals.

Raven - Im doing the couch to 5k, then this 10K training program and then the last 10 weeks i'm following this program.

If you are running a 5k pretty consistently, when training shouldn't be too difficult for you.  Halhigdon.com and JeffGalloway.com also have half marathon programs, but it depends how many days per week you want to dedicate to it.

The reason I chose MarathonRookie.com is because I'm only concerned with finishing, i have no time goal and this program just focuses on building up endurance instead of building speed. I'm going to detail my progress on my blog www.megintraining.blogspot.com so, starting this week, I'll post on my experience with the training program.

My Goal is pretty similar to last time:

Excercise at least 3 days a week for 9 of 12 weeks and average calorie intake of 2,000 cals per week

The calories may need to be adjusted as I train for the half marathon, but I think I'll be OK on a 2,000avg/week for this 12 week challenge.

Its hard to believe that I've been part of this group for 1 year and 4 months now! My journey over that period of time has really taken me through a lot of experiences. I've learned quite a bit through this group and I am so thankful for all the advice and support I've received. Hopefully you will all be here to cheer me through the next 6+ months as I train for a half marathon!

I look forward to a long future with this great group and hope I can continue to be as supportive to you all as you have been for me.

Sara - Yes, there is a half and full marathon here in April and another in October. I'd like to be able to run both. I want to focus on just finishing in april and then work on a time goal in October. I'm actually excited to start training.  Just hope i have enough time to do it sensibly and without injury.

WELCOME RACHEL!

Thanks Sara for the congrats! Its the best i've done since i started here!

I've decided that I am going to tweak my goal to be a little more vague than doing NROLFW 3x a week...I think i'm going to start training for a half marathon, so that means i won't have the time fro NROLFW. Its something I've wanted to do for a long time and i think im finally ready to attempt it.

However, i'll still need to get in at least 3-4 workouts a week, which is easy for me, so whether im lifting or not, i'll still get in some sort of workout.

Congrats to Defrog3 on the baby!

My maintenance goal was 100%! However my new goal was 75% which is much higher than I've ever achieved in a goal setting session. My eating got out of control over the past few weeks, and i'm sure it was due to me not noticing any changes in my body, measurements etc.

I'm happy with that!

I'm probably going to try the same goals again. I really need to get my eating under control.  That's my biggest challenge.

I have indeed been struggling along.  I just feel like I can't work hard enough to get results... I don't know if i have the heart for it anymore.... its difficult.

So, i'm still working out, but my eating is just all over the place. I just love eating so much, that its a daily struggle to use my willpower.  And its not been a successful fight lately.

Welcome back Sandy. I miss you girlies!

Kathy brought up something that I really need to fix in myself - my satiety valve. And maybe its more than that - emotional and bored eating are problems for me also.

I will eat and eat and eat when i know i'm full and even when I'm bored and not hungry. Many times I ignore the relationship I have with food, thinking it will just get better on its own.  I enjoy food, and I think its absolute torture that there are so many delicious things out there that are so bad for us or that we can only have a bite or two of.  I mean, three oreos? Who on earth can eat just three oreos!?

I just keep having this battle over and over again with food... And I wish it would just come naturally to me. I hate the struggle.

Weekly Topic:

I have to admit, this was difficult for me. I have so many reasons why I would like to loose weight, but at my first go with this, nothing strikes me as more important than others.

I had to take a while to think about it, but I think this is probably the best list I can make.

Layer One - Look better - Everyone wants to look good and since I've been kinda "thick" my entire life, I just want for once to be that girl with skinny legs, a flat tummy and nice arms.

Layer Two - Be Stronger - Being stronger means there is less chance for injury, stronger bones, stronger back etc... I don't want to have to ask people to move or pick up things for me any more!

Middle - Motivation - Be Healthy and Happy - I want my life to be the best it can be. I don't want to have health problems down the road because of the extra weight.

WELCOME Vera! I hope you get as much out of this group as the rest of us do. Sara is a great leader and poses some great questions/assignments each week.

Thanks for the reminder Sara! This week has been a little difficult for me...  Today especially... I already blogged about the crappy mistake i made this morning, so here it is:

Ok, I admit. I did something bad this morning. just two weeks into my 30 day "No Scale Challenge", I succumbed to the temptation and I weighed myself this morning. Yep, I did it. I cheated and now I regret it.

And what did the lil ol’ scale have to say to me after two weeks of dieting, hydrating and exercising. 1lb. I’ve lost a single pound. Many times it seems, giving in to temptation makes things worse rather than better.

Had the scale said two pounds, I might not have been as upset. I’m not sure why that extra pound would make much difference… It’s just so annoying that I have to work so incredibly hard to make the scale budge even the tiniest bit… and I’m not real sure that I can keep this up for the rest of my life.

So I guess now I’m at the point where I will need to make a decision - jump off the wagon (easy), or try harder (hard). I’m beginning to believe that it’s my willpower that needs to get in shape instead of my body.

Ugh. I'm so frustrated.

Welcome Zora!  Way to go on the 20 lbs loss and kudos to you for keeping yourself positive and  on track even without differences on the scale.  Most people will notice a plateau after they lose about 10% of their body weight, so just keep doing what you are doing and the losses will come again soon! :)
