Congrats!!!

85 pounds is incredible! I am hoping to lose about that much myself, and it can be so daunting to look at such a big number still to go. I know doing it little by little really is the only way. I'm down about 12 pounds so far, and trying not to look too far ahead, just taking one day at a time, knowing that if I keep doing it right, I will be where you are EVENTUALLY. You are doing great, and your hard work is really inspiring. Keep it up! And by the way you ARE hot, so be ready for all those cheesy lines!!

Congratulations on getting started! That's the hardest part. I have a 14 month old daughter, and I've had a really rough time getting on a program that I can stick to. She is also really clingy, I guess in a way that helps me burn more calories, because I have to hold her all the time while I attempt to do things around the house, but mostly it just makes things more difficult. She is the biggest obstacle to exercise, but she is also the greatest motivator. I want her to have a healthy mommy, and I want her to see what healthy habits look like. As she gets older I'm starting to realize how much she tries to do what I do, and I want her have healthy things to imitate.

That being said, I have a long way to go. I weighed about 185 when I got pregnant, which was much higher than usual (I think I gained at least 25 pounds when I got together with her father). During my pregnancy I gained about 70 pounds- I remember gaining 10lbs in one week near the end of it! It was so scary, but I just couldn't get a hold on my eating- there were incredible stresses in my family at that time, and I just tried to eat it all away. After she was born I lost some of it, but here I am over a year later, still at 219. Being a mother is so much harder than I ever thought it could be, and my little girl is not an "easy" baby- she hardly sleeps, forget about naps- we might get 15 minutes somedays. Exercising is still a challenge big time. When the weather is good I try to take her out in the stroller, but I live in Maine, where it's frickin COLD for 6 months of the year.

So far I've been on CC for a couple weeks, and I'm so excited about it. I've been logging all my food, not much exercise yet, but I've still managed to lose 6lbs. Once the weather gets better, or I get a gym membership, I hope to add more activity, but for now I am working on portion size, cutting out processed foods, getting plenty of fiber, and cutting out the late night snacking. It hasn't been easy, but I'm determined to stick with it this time. If you can, try to cut up a bunch of veggies (carrot sticks, celery sticks, broccoli, cauliflower, whatever you like) and put them in individual serving ziplock bags. I keep a bunch of these in my fridge for when I need something to munch on. I dip them in a little ranch or hummus, and it really helps. I know that eating right takes a little more effort than just grabbing whatever's convenient, that's why I try to do as much ahead of time as I can. I wish you the best of luck, message me anytime if you need support, you're definitely not in this one alone!!

Congrats on the weight loss!! I'm just at the beginning, having at least 80 pounds to lose (if not a few more), and finding it difficult to work out with just one child. If you can do it with 4, I need to lose some of my excuses!!

I bought a bunch of exercise videos thinking it would be easier to start at home, but every time I try to do one, it turns into "tackle Mommy time". Crunches are a lot more difficult with a toddler draped across your neck!!

I'm thinking it's time to spring for the gym membership, partner or not!

And I agree so much with the previous post, Writing it all down is Huge!! I'm a lot less tempted to finish off what my daughter leaves on the plate if I know I have to account for it later.
Foods About time to go grocery shopping, what's in your cabinets? Jan 24 2008

For breakfast, cheerios and frozen blueberries - they turn the milk purple and fool me into thinking I've got a sweetened cereal

At lunch, raw brocolli, cauliflower, carrot, celery sticks - I cut them up as soon as I get home from the store and bag them up into serving sizes, no excuses later!

Hummus to dip the veggies in,

String cheese- takes me a minute to eat it, not like a slice that I can gulp down in two bites.

All Bran crackers- these have 5g of fiber per serving, and they are so yummy!! I bag these up too, just so I don't eat the whole box all at once :)

For me the biggest problem is making sure I have quick easy things to grab. With a toddler running around, I just don't have time to think about it too much, and I definitely don't have time to do a lot of cooking and cleaning up after.

So happy to see this thread!!  I have been browsing around the site, for the last couple days, and this is one of the best so far!  I'm really trying to turn my diet and weight around- My little girl is over a year old now, and I am still carrying 35 pounds of baby weight (not to mention the 40 or so that I had gained before I got pregnant). It's so encouraging to find a place that makes so many resources easily available like this.  What I did right today was to open the fridge, take a long look at that last piece of chocolate cream pie, and shut the door!  There were a hundred times today when I thought about grabbing some food, but I made (relatively) healthy choices all day, and I am so proud of that!
