| Weight Loss | What are some non-tv related things you do at night? | Oct 13 2009 17:56 (UTC) |

My boyfriend and I have the same routine together too...though we don't live together LOL...he and I eat dinner together (lately we have been propping up in front of the tv for some reason LOL) and then we clean up...then you're right, its back to the television...some nights I will go off and take a nice warm bath and try to relax and he plays his video game.... Another thing you guys can do (not sure of your age, if you have children, etc) but we will sometimes play a game too...we enjoy playing bored games so we will bust out with Scrabble or something every now and then... Hope this helps. Also, now that its getting colder, if you are worried about the snacking thing, curl up with a nice cup of hot tea....not only does it help settle the stomach after dinner, it helps relax ya too... |

| Weight Loss | Do you beat youself up when you go over your calorie limit? | Sep 10 2009 14:06 (UTC) |

Hey... Sometimes I get frustrated when it happens, but my eating habits aren't so sensible these days. It really frustrates me when I do good all day, then when I am about to cook dinner, I get so hungry and I start picking on things...ugh!! Then I can't keep track. This thing actually told me that I am allowed 1750 calories a day, but that seemed high so I brought it down to 1450 myself and then brought it down even more to 1250...so I guess I have a range to keep within too so I shouldn't fret too much and neither should you... :-D Good luck!!! |

I know how you feel about not wanting to throw it away. If it smells ok (and take a small bite to taste it) then its ok to eat it...if not, I would definately toss it. For me, just being in the fridge that long I would throw it out because I don't like when things get all sogged up...lol |

| Recipes | Anyone have a good recipe that incorporates lentils? | Feb 02 2009 18:53 (UTC) |
5 |
There is this one Rachel Ray recipie that incorporates lentils and sausage (don't know how strict you are sticking to this diet but every now and then it won't hurt you) It's called Sausage with Garlic Lentils, and its really good. Ingredients
Cover lentils by 2 inches with water, add bay and onion and bring to a boil. Boil lentils 20 to 22 minutes until just tender but with a little bite left to them. In a shallow pasta bowl combine the garlic and about 1/3 cup extra-virgin olive oil and let stand 15 minutes. Place sausages in a small pan and add 1/4-inch water and 2 teaspoons extra-virgin olive oil, a little drizzle. Bring water to a boil then reduce heat to medium-high. Let the water simmer away 8 minutes or so, then crisp the casings 3 to 4 minutes more. Remove bay and onion from lentils. Toss hot lentils with garlic oil, parsley and salt and pepper. Serve with sausages on top.
enjoy!

LOL O man thats nuts...how inconsiderate he is...not your fault he's fat and lazy... You were eating an apple, you are doing the right thing, he probably wolfs down a bag of chips or a candy bar or something...hang in there...don't let him bother you.... Those kinds of people frustrated me. |

Just off the record, you aren't fat according to your pictures...you look great if you ask me...but its you who needs to be happy with yourself. Excercise is the hardest part for me too...I've got to drop at least 50 pounds and I feel I am so far away from it...things have been nuts for me so I haven't watched and my budget isn't th e best for me to eat so healthy so I'm trying yet again....I wish I was where you are in those pics!! lol Good luck...and the hardest part is to stay focused...once you get past that part and get into a routine, you should be okay...

I have attached a little bit about having a Fiber Diet. Hope this helps ya!
Fiber Diet
Getting enough fiber in your diet? Dietary fiber can help your colon and is an important part of the management of your diverticulosis. It speeds the progress of food passing through your digestive tract and promotes regular bowel movements. The increased ease of stool passage keeps the intestinal muscles in good shape and prevents the sluggishness that leaves stool sitting in the colon for long periods of time. This may help lead to bowel cancer. Furthermore, fiber may bind with or dilute cancer-causing agents in some foods and help push them out of the body rather than allow them to be absorbed into the intestines.
What is fiber? Fiber is the structural part of fruits, vegetables, and grains that your digestive system cannot digest or break down. Increasing fiber in the diet can be an important factor in improving your overall well being. For instance, bran has been found to reduce blood sugar and to lower cholesterol. Bran has become a friend to the dieter as well. Because it is effective as part of an overall weight control problem. Fibrous foods give you a sense of fullness because of the bulkiness of fiber. Fiber-rich foods require more chewing, so eating takes longer and you feel satisfied sooner. Fiber has almost no calories because your intestinal system does not digest it.
What foods contain fiber? Cereals, fruits, and vegetables all contain some fiber. (See attached chart). Foods vary greatly in the amount of fiber they provide. Milk and its products, fats, meats, poultry, fish, and eggs contain no fiber at all. The richest sources of fiber are grains such as cereals, but the fiber content wanes depending on the milling and refining process of the product. Excellent high fiber cereals (approximately 30 grams of fiber per cup) are All-Bran, Bran Buds, 100% Bran, and Fiber One. Any of these in addition to Miller’s or unprocessed bran, may be used in cooking and added to many already prepared foods.
How much fiber do I need each day? Aim is for 25-35 grams of fiber daily, but work up to it as your system tolerates it. If you are currently consuming little or no fiber in your diet, make the change gradually. Don’t shock your intestinal tract. Introducing large amounts of fiber too abruptly may result in cramping, increased gas, or even diarrhea. If any of these occur, cut back on the portion of cereal you are eating then gradually increase the amount until you can tolerate one cup per day, which will provide you with your fiber requirement.
Isn’t it hard to eat one cup of fiber a day? Not really. You don’t have to eat one whole cup at one sitting. There are numerous ways to get the fiber you need enjoyably. Take a half-cup in the morning and the rest at night. Put out a cup of cereal in the morning and snack on it during the day, or use it as a topping on ice cream, custards, and other more palatable foods. Cook with recipes that use bran, baking with bran is an old and familiar culinary technique. Try using bran instead of breading on chicken and fish, breakfasting with bran cakes instead of pancakes, or making meatballs with bran fiber.
What else can I do? Increase your fluid intake. Drink fruit juices and especially water. Try to aim for six 8 oz. glasses of water daily. Since dietary fiber is somewhat sponge-like, it absorbs water. Additional amounts of water are helpful in pushing the fiber along course.

Everybody's bowel system is different. I would ask your doctor about this...he or she may tell you to start taking metamucil or Miralax or Citrucel. As long as you aren't not going for long periods of time and become impacted, then thats good. I work at Colon and Rectal Surgeons doctor's office and believe me this is far from making me queasy. Are you 50 or nearing 50 yet? You can always get a colonoscopy. Your insurance will usually pay for it if you have a legit reason if its earlier than 50. (i.e. rectal bleeding, family history, or in your case, change in bowel habits.) Good luck! |

Congrats on losing the 100 pounds...you are doing much better than me...I can't stick to a diet plan for crap!! I get discouraged way to quickly and with the prices of food these days, its hard for me.... Try to set a smaller goal. If you see "Ugh, 80 pounds to go" I can so totally see that being a downer. Up that goal a bit maybe set it to 20 pounds for now, then change it when you get to that mark. Hopefully that will help you. I have to lose about 40 pounds give or take and I can't stand it. I need to be more strict on myself. I keep saying tomorrow is another day, but a year has passed by ugh!!! Maybe by Halloween I can actually do this... Good luck...it must have been so hard to lose 100 pounds, I wish I had your strenth and will power. Keep up the good work. |

I used to have a dog....he passed away at the age of 15 last November...I'm trying to excercise on the Wii fit game, but I am starting to get a little lazy. Todays lunch will be a salad with a piece of grilled chicken. For breakfast I had two slices of whole wheat toast with a little butter and a banana. |

DON'T EAT THE RABBIT!!! I do eat other meats, but its just that I think rabbits are so darn cute that I won't eat them...that and I'm obsessed with Thumper so I can't do it...same goes with frog legs ew lol I love Kermit the Frog so it makes me feel bad. If you don't feel comfortable eating meat in general, you shouldn't be forced to do so. |

If you don't like it, don't force yourself to eat it. Try Cream of Wheat (Farina) or a cup of grits...those are really good. If you try to do the oatmeal thing...I like a little Splenda on it and some fresh fruit I even sometimes put the blueberries on top first then microwave it. the blueberries get warm and burst yummy! |

Ugh...now that I think about it...I am alot like you too....I don't know if that is a good or bad thing that I enjoy food, watching TV, cooking it, baking it, etc.... Ugh. But as long as you don't indulge in it all time time in a bad way, then you should be ok. |

Congratulations on your big move!!! I know that alone must be a big stressor and motivation set back!! You are making a good step by checking what your surroundings are so far with the parks...I know how you feel as far as wanting to go home and "relax" at the end of the day after work...I feel just as "lazy" too....lol.... Try to set aside at least one night a week to start going for a walk and see how you like walking through the park...that just might get you into a routine...then start adding another day during the week, etc. Good luck

| Health & Support | Colonoscopy- a few questions | May 02 2008 15:00 (UTC) |
3 |
Hey, I work for a Colon and Rectal surgeons office....so here are your questions answered...even though others already put their input in... Depending on the start time of your preparation, you may or may not need to be home from work the day before the colonoscopy...we have a prep where you start at 2 and 4, but you can also start it 5 and 9 in case you have to work during the day, you just end up pooping till about 2 am.... Yes, the day of the procedure you need to take the day off because of the sedation/anesthesia they give you for the procedure...it is recommended that you not drive for the rest of the day. You must take the prep the day before the procedure...no ifs, ands, or but(ts) no pun intended...lol Now on our preps we only allow coffee and tea at breakfast time only...we consider coffee one of the non-clear liquids.... As for scheduling an interview after your exam, I wouldn't necessarily recommend that personally because after your exam you will have a very gassy stomach because they inject air into your colon...holding in a fart during an interview can't be a very comfortable experiance....

Well I hope your man isn't picky but I know mine is happy with anything... Keep some canned soups around the campbells select ones are good. If you want some snacks, keep some pretzels around...if he wants something sweet, get the smart ones deserts the key lime pie one is awesome! Keep some raw veggies in the fridge like carrots and celery and keep a small container of ranch dip handy in case he wants to snack on something like that...even some crackers and cheese |

| Weight Loss | Info on Cheat Days Please?? | Apr 16 2008 17:20 (UTC) |

Well sometimes I cheat more than I should (theres the time of the month or those weekends where you just don't care lol) The day I usually chose to cheat (not to all extremes) but that day is mostly Saturdays...I'm out and about and usually go to a restaurant for lunch/dinner. Sometimes what I consider cheating is something that I can't measure out or find on this website lol... I do a major cheating binge type thing at most once every two weeks and yes I do allow myself a small piece of chocolate after dinner during my non cheat times when I wanna change the taste in my mouth after dinner.. |

yes, coldstone is really evil (the cool thing is they opened one down the street from my house last summer great huh lol) I haven't had any since the summer myself and have been seriously thinking of coldstone creamery lol...I want some strawberry ice cream with graham cracker crumbs and almonds....of course i do love the cake batter ice cream with graham cracker crumbs, almonds, and can't forget that o so healthy heath bar! YUM lol... Since they do samples before getting your choice, I will try the light cake batter ice cream to see how good it is...thanks for the ups!! that way instead of eating a 650 calorie desert, I can semi indulge and still get my toppings for under 500 Amen to that! |

Please don't feel bad...the PMS thing gets the best of us...last week I at greasy stuff and just had no control over what I put in my mouth...knock on wood I didn't gain a drastic amount of weight (surprisingly lol) but damn did I enjoy every minute of it...except the guilt I felt afterwards... Definately don't starve yourself if you are hungry. If you do that, the next time you sit down to eat you will over indulge trust me! Just keep dinner to something healthy like veggies and a piece of grilled meat. No more carbs for tonight! |

Thanks a million to those who have replied...I definately needed that hope of reassurance...I'm a very impatient person when it comes to weight loss...ugh! I'm doing my best and thats all that matters at this point! I felt guilty last night from binging on olives (thought I did anyways but only ate about 9 or 10 lol) but the good news is that no matter how much I liked the looks of ice cream in the ice cream aisle at the supermarket, i didn't buy any.... |

Well I am really proud that I did good...since my aunt likes the family together, she did Easter on Saturday and I had Easter with my boyfriend's family on Sunday...so I had twice the amount of food...luckily I wasn't feeling so great (think I had a stomach bug but no vomiting just the other way!) so I didn't have much of an appetite.... I actually ended up losing weight over the holiday weekend! As for the candy situation, treat yourself to one or two little pieces a day or even a handful of jelly beans...after that, save the rest...I know its easier said than done... My boyfriend's cousin's friend made chocolate covered pretzel rods...I ate one today but not yesterday...they were good...thats all I am limiting myself to... |
