Hey Chris.  I have stopped drinking.  Well not so much stopped as paused my drinking.  All the stress of moving had me hitting the beer pretty hard.  And of course when you are tipsy or hungover you make bad food choices.  I also am back to weighing myself everyday.  A little guilt goes a long way for a Catholic.  I keep track of my calories and I am trying to eat during the day.  I found that I wasn't eating anything until 1pm and then I'd have dinner and then I would sit on the couch and stuff my face with cookies and candies and chips.  No more! Now I sit on the couch after dinner and drink water.  If I am starving, which I almost always am, I grab some fruit or a salad.

I'm going to visit friends this weekend so I'm sure I will drink but I will stay away from BEER.  It is my biggest weaknes!  A few Rum and Diet Cokes ought to be OK.

My weight didn't change today so I'm trying to move around alot.  Vacuuming and going up and down the stairs for things.

I'm sorry to hear about your loss.  Stress is a great way to get out of good habits.  The winter is also good for that.

I have to tell you that when I checked back here and you guys were gone I was pretty bummed.  I'm about the fattest I've ever been.  I went and looked at some of the other over 40 forums but they have all different threads and billions of people.  I don't think I could keep up.  I'm glad some of you are still here.

I moved back to America.  I live in WV and I can't remember ever being soooo cold.  It is really beautiful here and quiet but it makes you want to sit on the sofa, drink beer and eat Cheetos or Tostitos or any other salty snack that ends in "O".  I weigh as much as my 20 year old nephew and he is 6'4"!  Things have gotten really out of hand to say the least.  I started dieting on Monday and have lost 3 lbs...only 40 more to go.

There did used to be a group of women over 40 here.  I've been away for a while (getting fat) but I'm back now, trying again.  I'll check back every now and then to see if anyone else turns up.

I finally had the courage to stand on the scale today.  Back down to 181.  I don't know where that 2.5 lbs came from last week but it threw me let me tell ya.

I'm gearing up for my trip to America.  It happens to coincide with my grammer schools 100th anniversary celebration.  My brother and sisters want to go and they want me to go but (like I'm not stressed out enough) I get all teared up everytime I think of it.  I'm so fat and hideous.  I really don't want people, who were mostly pretty crappy to me, to see me like this.  Most of these people I have not seen since I joined the navy back in 90 or even since I left for University in 84.  Let me tell you that was a lot of pounds ago.

Do you think we could pile any more pressure on this trip???

Welcome GT.  That lap band is pretty serious stuff!  I think you are making a good choice not jumping into that.

Hey Blue, My parents live in Cape Coral.  That is very near Sanabel.  Does your brother live there all the time?  I hope you 2 can work out your differences.  It would be nice for you to have siblings you can talk to.

Yes, I am still in Australia.  I move back to the US in the new year.  I'm so nervous.  America changes so fast.  I lived in Europe for much of the 90's and when I went back home I couldn't pump gas because the pumps were all computerized and I'm not very smart.Tongue out.

I am having a hard time curtailing my food.  I'm so bad.  Yesterday I went to the movies and ate pop corn and a Kit Kat!!!  I have no right to complain about being a fatty but I do anyway.

Hey Pattykins and Ro.  I'm newly back too, although I am still not doing to well on the eating front.  I have also gained some weight...a lot of weight.  I really look awful.  My face is so fat I don't even recognize myself.  I have to fly to west Virginia this month to buy a house and I'm so embarrassed that people will see me.  I"m gonna try to take a walk today after lunch when it is not too cold.

Blue, of course communication is the key to any relationship however in my opinion if there is no sex then you are just friends and you don't need to bang your head against the wall with all that communicating.  Also you don't need to cook for, clean up after or put up with moodiness from him.  Friends are great...you can never have enough friends...same could be said for sex.Wink

Hey Beth.  That sounds like you've got some good opportunities to do a little working out!  My gym membership just ran out but I'm planning to start taking walks.  The winter is almost over...thank God...and I can start to go outside again soon.  Unfortunately my summer will be very short because I'm moving back to America in Jan.  That will be me sitting on the couch for another 3 months.  I hate winter.

BLUE RUN!!!  Not interested in sex?  What good is he then???

Puppy: I don't know what to say.  Kids are experiencing sex way too young these days.  12!  I'd have a stroke if my 12 year old was having sex.  How is your Daughter feeling.  My sister got pregnant when she was a senior in HS.  It was difficult but a good support system really helps.

Dear Blue, Maybe you should go out and eat a Big Mac to shock your system into moving.  Maybe it is getting too used to your healthy habits???

I lost 2 lbs this week!!

I bought plane tickets so I can go to West Va. and buy a house.  NOT looking forward to that.

Puppy, I haven't weighed 130 since High School Embarassed so good on you.  I just want to get down to the 160's.  I'm hoping by next monday I will be in the 170's but the third week is hard so I'm not gonna get my hopes up too high.

Chris, throw a shot of Vodka in your Grape Juice Wink, then it is healthy with a kick.

Blue, I'm cheering for you to lose that 7 in your number.  That is where I got stuck last time and gave up.  YOU CAN DO IT!!

What do you use for your beef stew gravy.  I have to modify mine cuz I'm sure mine is too fattening.

Ah puppy.  Beer is the enemy.  I love it....really, I'd marry it, but it makes you fat and you know what is worse: it doesn't care.   It is a selfish drink!!  Yesterday I went out to lunch with my girl friends we drank 2 bottles of wine.  I don't drink wine but I had to stay away from the beer.  I didn't feel too well the rest of the day and then I went to the movies with my husband and ate VERY salty pop corn.  I'm ill today!!  Tonight is pub night but if I still feel ill it will save me a lot of birthday calories.Tongue out

I'm sorry you having trouble with your kids.  I'll pray that situation gets better real soon.

Today is my weigh day.  I lost 4 lbs but of course this is the 1st week so it is all water (beer) on the way out.  Tomorrow is my birthday so this week is going to be rough on the losing weight front.  Partys and lunches and the like are all planned.

2 days into the diet.  No beer.  This time i thought I'd take some of the pressure off myself and only count calories.  I used to count carbs and fat and work out the daily percentages, but Oh! the math.  Does anyone just count calories....will that work??

Does the calorie content of food change when you cook it?

In America do they still use calories.?  Here they use kilojoules and I always have to convert.

Puppy, I'm sorry to hear that you are depressed.  It is so hard to get motivated to do anything.  I feel the same way.  Some days i just get the kids to school and go back to bed until they come home.  Then I have to slap on a smile and act like all is well.  That is also exhausting.

tonight is pub night for me.  But alas, no beer this week or any other for a while.  I feel like poop.  Mentally and Physically.  I'm hoping losing weight will help.  I hope it comes off this time.  Last time I lost a few and then nothing...then I gave up.

Hey, Long time no type.  Started my diet again today.  Have gained 7 lbs since I was last here.  I'm having a little trouble getting motivated.  Honestly, I have been more than a little depressed lately.  I'm hoping a healthy diet and some regular exercise with help that.

I move a lot too and every time I do it is a set back.  I feel embarrassed at a new gym and tend not to go too often until I figure out when it is mostly empty so no one can see me.  I actually have been pretty ill for a while and I haven't been to my gym and now I'm nervous about going back, even though I know those people and they are very nice, I feel awful about me.  Anyway this isn't about me.  You just need some time to settle in to your new surroundings.  Try to make better choices when you eat out...did you say deep fried cheesecake?!?! You might have to force yourself to just do what you gotta do until you feel comfortable in your new surroundings.  You can do it!!!

Beth...no Cancer!! Always good news!  Glad to hear it.  What are you going to be when you graduate?

Puppy:  I think you can eat less than your BMR for a short while to get your body jump started but I don't know how healthy that is for the long run.

Zena:  I also always said I would quit when I lose the weight but I never lose enough weight so I never quit.  I figured if I kept waiting I was gonna die a fat smoker.  Although I hear Chemotherapy  is a great way to lose weight. Undecided

Ann:  I have found that when you have a job that you can't tell people about it is best to make up a story of what you do and stick with it.   Once on a plane, while I was in the Navy this guy insisted I tell him what I did for the Navy because he was a taxpayer and he had a right to know.  After that I told people I was a yeoman.  Boring...end of questions.Wink

Tied one on last night.  But I didn't smoke!  Today I don't feel so good.

Ann, Congrats!!

Kim, I realize that the timing of your daughters pregnancy isn't ideal but I want to say congrats to you guys too.  Babies are great.  I'm sure you will all get immense  joy from your new little guy.

4 days with no smoking.  I didn't go to the pub last night.  I let Joe go instead.  I had a few beers at home on Monday and didn't smoke although I wanted to.  Had a bit of money stress yesterday but I didn't smoke.  I can't stop eating but I didn't smoke.

Patti, I hear ya.  I like idea of the outdoors too,  but I don't really want to go to far out there.  I like to sit on the back porch with a beer and my camera and take pictures of the birds or the kids but that is about as far as I go.  I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that I have to pee all the time!!  Does anyone else have that problem. I pee like every half hour.  I get up at least once usually twice during the night.

3 days without a smoke.  Tomorrow is pub night.  That will be the big test.

RO!!!! I"m so happy for you.  When I read your post I got all chocked up.  I'm gonna get going with this diet thing again.  I quit smoking yesterday.  At least I said I quit smoking yesterday.  I think that will make the diet harder.

Pattikins.  I made apple cake yesterday and ate 3 pieces already.  I may as well just eat a stick of butter and wash it down with a bag of Skittles.  What is Creme Brulee exactly??

Nancy: Why do you have to get the gift for your son to give to your ex-in laws??  Tell his father to take care of it.  They are his parents.  If he won't do it then I find grandparents usually enjoy a nice framed photo of the kids.  Cheap and easy.

Ann:  If you don't like Scottish summer don't ever go to  Disney World.  Actually I think the only places you would be comfy in America are San Francisco or Seattle.  Maybe Maine.  I think it was Mark Twain who once said "the coldest winter he ever spent was summer in San Francisco."  When I lived in North Yorks.  in the dead of winter the sun was only up for like 5 hours a day.  I found it kind of depressing.  My son was born on Dec 21 and the sun came up that day at like 9am and set at like 4:30.  I remember we went to the hospital at 5pm and it was fully dark.

Alyson. Cool snow storm story.  How are you liking the job??

Oh, on in a purely meena vein:  I started looking up stuff on West Virginia.  They are all about the outdoors.  Fishing, hunting, biking, caving, rafting...I'm dreading it more than ever now.  If ever you knew someone who was not outdoorsy times it by 10 and that is me.

glos2lv.  What a nightmare with your MIL.  I'd never be in the same room with her.  Does she live close to you.  I live in Australia and my MIL lives in NJ.  I think I'm almost far enough away from her.

Pattikins.  You crack me up, apologizing to me cuz it isn't spring here.  Gave me a good chuckle.  Thank you.

Zena.  We all had a conversation a while back about being scale hoppers.  It is not good for your psyche.  Try not standing on the scale for a day or two.  It is really hard but it is better for your head

BTW.  I got another note from someone I didn't know.  This time I thought it was someone from this site so I answered them.  Was it any of you cuz they didn't write back.

I stood on the scale...no change!!! 179.5 NOT 180 thank you very much!!

Yeah, Patti, I'm in Oz and I can't get used to the seasons being all wonky either.  I don't come back to America until November.

Nancy. I've been off the site for a while...Why are you with your MIL.  By the way, antihistamines make it drugs AND alcohol.

FastMary how is the weather at home?  When I come home we will have to meet somewhere for cocktails...How's Highland falls for you...Too far??  Where are you again, Monroe, Nanuette.  I just cant remember.  I told you I've been hitting the sauce Embarassed.

Ann my saucy highlander, how the heck are you.  How is the job hunt coming? Has your mom come down under yet? Congrats on the 3 pounds.  I'm gonna start to shape up really soon because Joe is going to sea and I'm gonna be a single a parent for a while.  That keeps me sober and responsibleLaughing.

Hey, How's every one doing?  I am a slug.  Not dieting at all and as usual drinking too much.  I'm terrified to stand on the scale.  On the up side I'm doing good with my exercise.  I don't know if it is helping at all but I can feel my muscles when I move so hopefully over time my stomach will be back in my mid section and off my lap.  Winter is really setting in.  This morning it is 3 and it is not even April yet.  August is going to suck.  I hate Winter!!!!

Hey, I haven't been on in a while.  I haven't really been dieting so I'm too ashamed to talk to you guys.

Ann: Someone I don't know just put me on their friends list.  The name is dipen69.  That totally sounds suspicious.  I'm gonna have my husband take a look when he comes home.  Sorry about your job.  I realize I'm a little late with that but like I said I haven't been here in a while.

Alyson: You sound kind of Yell. Laughing you'll feel better.  I wish I had a joke for you but I'm so tired from not sleeping that I can't think of any.  I'm trying to keep smiling but I really just want a nap.  I think I'll have one very soon.  It is days like this that being a house wife totally ROCKS!

Ann I started scrap booking a couple of years ago.  It is a good way for me to keep the photos of my kids in order.  From birth until I started the scrapbook the pictures are all just in a box.  I gotta get to sorting them out one day...one day in the distant future I think.  I think I may just do a book of good pictures of their early years.  I'm thinking I'm gonna have all kinds of free time in West Virginia so I will probably start that then.

Ann There must be some sort of site police that you can report  those men to.  They are probably not good guys.  Don't type to them.  It is weird that they picked you cuz you are in Europe.  Maybe they are too.  It is kind of creepy to think that anyone could be reading what we write to each other.  I didn't read everyones posts yet.  Did anyone else get unwanted "friends?"

I gotta get ready to go to the pool.  Just wanted to say Hi to everyone and I'm still here, just been a little busy.  Trying to catch up on my scrap book.  I just finished 2007!!! Now I"m not that far behind because nothing too exciting has happened yet in 2008.

Ann: Grey Eyelashes??  I didn't know that would happen.  I have some grey eyebrow hairs and lots of grey head hairs but my dad says your not really old until you have grey hairs "down under..and I don't mean AustraliaWink"  I think the chocolate thing is sooo weird.  Why would that happen so suddenly?  There must be some sort of body chemistry explanation...I don't know what it could be.  The more broccoli you eat the less you like Chocolate.  I could drink a shandy but I never do.  I'm not too good with the self control.  I was thinking about quitting smoking and went 3 days and then yesterday I had a few beers and smoked like a chimney.  This would good be good place for an emoticon with an oxygen mask and a kidney transplant scar.

Jasmine. I don't envy you all that snow.  I hate snow.  I'm not looking forward to living in West Virginia.  I'm thinking there is gonna be a lot of snow there.

FastMary: Maybe we both gained a pound to keep the earth balanced.  What will happen when I come back to the northern hemisphere?  Will  the earth fall off its axis?  Geepers, that would really ruin my day...Wink

Pattykins: Don't let falling off the wagon get you down, I'm always falling off one wagon or another.  Pick yourself up and start again..."after all tomorrows another day.."

Chris: I hope your daughters situation resolves itself in a positive way.  I'm sending good thoughts your way.

Hi eveyone else.  I'm gonna have a look at everyones picture galleries this weekend.  Maybe I throw on a few of my own.

Gained a pound.  Back up to the 180's.  180.5.  I have really been lax at writing stuff down and measuring.  Well apparently I can not be trusted!  I, so far, have weighed and logged everything today and I also did pilates and ran a mile.  Yes, I was actually able to run.  My back is soooo much better.Laughing  Yesterday I did my aqua aerobics but it was really hard cuz I was kind of hung over from pub night.  Joe should be going to the pub next week so that will keep me sober.  We are supposed to alternate weeks but since his hernia happened it is always me and I think it is starting to take its toll.

My girls had tuesday off from school so I took them bowling.  I haven't picked up my bowling ball in a year and a half, since my original back injury, but I was able to throw it no problem and my back was fine the next day.  I was worried but I think maybe I'm finally OK.

Puppykisses. If you are a caffeine addict you wont feel wired.  Try cutting down and see if it makes you tired.  If so you need to drink less.  If not it probably doesn't affect you much.  I used to drink 3 litres of Diet Coke a day.  I never felt wired but when I cut down I could barely move.  I am down to 2 cans a day.  One with breakfast and one with dinner.  I can even do without the dinner one but if I don't have my caffeine first thing when I get up I am a mess all day.  If I'm out of Soda in the morning sometimes I actually feel like crying.  I guess that is how some people feel about coffee, for me it is Diet Coke.

FastMary:  Puppykisses called you FastMary too.  I think I've really started something here.  Wink
