Health & Support QUESTIONS: How do you sleep? Please help me with my journal. Jan 29 2009

I never really thought about my ritual

1. usually I go to sleep after finishing watching TV, close to 11pm.  I fix the sheets on my bed, put on my pjs, check the front door lock, do bathroom stuff then turn off the lights before walking back to bed.  Once in bed I check my alarm and turn on the fan for white noise (I live in the city - it's noisy outside my window).  My alarm is set for 6:30am, I hit snooze until 7:30, which is when my husbands alarm goes off.  Sometimes I'll get out of bed around 7:15 and turn off the rest of the alarm snoozes.

2.  When I can't sleep, I get up and get a pen and paper and write a list of all the things I have to remember to do tomorrow for work and personal.  Usually once I have everything written down I can stop my brain and go to sleep.

Hey all - weekend was okay.  I think I ate every refined carb in the book yesterday  (bagel, pizza, pasta).  I had a morning shower epiphany this morning.... I think I need to chill on the gym time requirement.  I know that I really need to concentrate on the food.  So my plan is to do a couple of yoga classes each week to feel stretched and calm and move my parts, but for the rest of the week maybe one cardio session and one weightlifting session and the rest of the time is just all about the food.  I know that this is the true way to make it work.  It really is all about the food.

My husband was telling me that I needed something to work towards, since I always do better when I know that something big is coming up.  Well our thoughts must have gone out to the universe, because friday night my girlfriend called and asked me to be a bridesmaid in her wedding in September.  So there it is - something new to work towards to look good in whatever horrible dress she makes me buy!

Hope everyone else is doing well and keeping it all in perspective!

Week 1: 225.0

Week 2: 226.8

I gained.  But I am chalking it up to a couple of days before TTOM.  Or maybe it was those 4 slices of pizza I ate on tuesday?  Nah!  It's my TTOM :)  Just being silly... I ate like a pig this week.  I am actually surprised it didn't go up more.

I have been doing 10-15min of yoga every morning before my hubby wakes up.  It's been nice to start my day that way :)

Okay - journaling, huh?  I am terrible at it, but it wouldn't be a challenge if it wasn't hard.  I'll start today.  Yesterday was the last Week 1 run for the C25K (that's the 'lingo' on the web for Couch 2 5K) and tomorrow will be the first run of week two.  I kinda am already off since I took 4 days off from it, so I am either going to try and catch up or just ignore the 'week' thing and just run each podcast 3 times.

If anyone wants the link to the podcasts, they are great.  It's techno music with a guy with a very soothing voice say 'okay, 60 seconds have passed, so bring it back down to a brisk walk'.  It's nice to not have to concentrate on the time, since someone else is doing it for you.

Looking forward to the friday weigh-in to see if there is any progress.  Slow and steady wins the race!

Mornin' all.

Official Friday weigh in is 226.4

completed day two of the couch to 5K (still on the first week) and the second time around felt easier than the first, so hopefully that trend will continue!

The weekend is coming up, which is my worst time (thank the lordie for friday weighins!).  Hopeing to come up with a meal plan now so I can be prepared.

Hi all!  I would love to join this challenge!

I'm 5'6" and approx 225 (but I'll do the official weigh in on Friday).

Looking to lose 15 lbs by St. Patty's Day.  I just started the Couch to 5K challenge and am working on getting my eating right.  I started CC last year and tried to lose a bunch of weight for my wedding last july.  I lost about 20 pounds and then found 25 pounds again, so I am working to get this current weight gain spree (25lbs in 6 months!) under control!

I'll check in on Friday.  Thanks!

So the zen weekend was great - although the moment I walked back into the apartment door, i started stressing again.  And this past week I have been eating like a pig - totally sabatoging myself.  It's less than 2 weeks away and I just cant get it together.  I am realizing that my friends and family love me as I am and that they will only see the 25 lbs I did lose, not the 60 lbs I didn't lose, which is what I should stop beating myself up about.

My fiance and I have decided that we are going to try and get some goals together for the end of the year - if I lose 30lbs and he loses 50lbs, then we'll wait to have kids for another year so we can enjoy our bodies and be active and adventurous.  If not - we get to start trying for kids.  Which we need to be thinner for anyway, so we can chase em around without gasping for breath! (Gibs - I am sure you know all about running after kids!).

So the next few days are packed with last minute details.  This leaves a lot of gym time on the back burner... but I am still getting my training sessions in, so that is something.

One thing that sucks is that I haven't still be sleeping so great, so I hope that doesn't continue - I need my rest - I am pooping myself out!

Noka - how's the new job/apt?

Noka - my fiance is a huge soccer fan so I was laughing at him last night screaming about the germany win as he was watching the taped game.  i lived in belguim for a year in 1998 when the world cup was going on and I remembered all the people outside watching the games in the squares and how huge soccer fever was! That must have been so fun!  And I am sure your shirt looked so cute, too!

Gibson - as usual - I wish I was one of your kids with the way to do such great stuff with them and keep them so entertained and busy doing 900 things.  That's the kind of mom I hope to be!

I have been having a really good food week and really good gym week so I can't complain.

Tomorrow I leave for 2 nights at a yoga and spa center in massachusetts - this is what I choose for my bachelorette party weekend.  I am so excited to not have to be partying like crazy and get to do something that is good for me.  All the meals are included and it's all organic and super healthy and that is great since the idea of Miami or Atlantic city meant tons of drinking and eating badly and feeling like crap that I didn't look like one of the crazy beach models.  This weekend will be filled with yoga, hiking, kayaking, a massage, some time by the lakeshore, and great friends (we are going to be a group of 10).

Anyway - hopefully I'll come back recharged and refreshed!  and ready to tackle the next 3 weeks before the wedding with an inner zen that nobody can deny!

I am up for the 5lbs in 4 weeks challenge - and hopefully I'll lose it all by my ribcage so I can actually stand to be in this dress... which by the way is turning out beautifully!

I have been doing great with getting my cardio in.  My snacks lately have been trail mix, which I know is very calorie dense but at least it is filling and natural.

I've been walking around with a knot in my stomach and I know it is my subconsious getting nervous about the wedding.

My fiance and I have promised to keep working on losing weight after the wedding - which is great, since it will be a little less stressful and not do-or-die weightloss.

I really want it to work for both of us - our lives would be so much better and so much free-er.  Too bad we couldn't do it for the wedding.  It would have been even nicer to document our great day with photos I can be proud of.

Is it bad to wish your fiance wasn't so fat, too? I feel bad admiting it, but i'm just being honest.  I ofcourse love him to death, but I keep on thinking people are looking at us like "auuugghhhh... isn't it nice when fat people find love?".

Noka - great news, sounds like everything is coming together - between the job and apartment and the fab bathing suit.

Gibson - I hope you are getting all your comissions completed - the murals sound like fun!  Keep getting outside with your kids - its a great way to burns come cals!

I'm still here!!!

I have just about a month before the wedding - unfortunately gym evenings have been taken over by fittings and accessory shopping and hair trials and all that crap.

Weight has been stable but I am learning that if I don't lose a few more lbs... I might be the most uncomfortable bride ever!

I'll keep you posted.

hi ladies - sorry i have been so out of the loop.  i've been busy and overwhelmed and just plain lazy with posting my calories and staying in touch.  To be honest - I haven't weighed myself in a couple of weeks now and I'm a little afraid of the outcome.

I did the dress fitting yesterday and it wasn't anywhere near  where i'd hoped it would be but I think it will turn out alright.  I have a pretty amazing seamstress so that helps.  with all the stress I have been under I have stopped dreaming about the wedding and started fantasizing about the honeymoon, just so I can be on vacation!

I'm going to try and be really good the next month with food and exercise like someone is paying me to do it.

So I've been sick for a couple of days - I haven't logged since last friday - scratch that - last thursday.  I eat crappy food when I am sick because I think it makes me feel better (it doesn't) and so now I am getting better but upset I didn't keep my urges in check over the past few days.

I am on the upswing of feeling better, so I am going to try and work on getting myself in the right frame of mind to keep eating healthy and taking care of myself!

Anyway - this saturday is 8 weeks to July 19th.  Wedding invites are going in the mail today (or maybe tomorrow).  Still stressing over the dress and needing my mom to get over the fact that I am not going to fit into the size 8 dress I bought that she loves.

Looking forward to a long weekend - going to be running around prepping for the shower, but also hoping to feel good enough to work out, maybe go for a long hike one day too!

Gibson - I hope you had a wonderful mommys day.

Hey all - busy weekend.  busy week.  still walking around like I sat on something and I wake up with lots of cricks and creaks.  I'm like 'i'm not old, what the problem here!?!?!'.  Some of the blisters popped and I peeled a little too much skin away so parts of my feets are raw.  I bought a new pair of sneakers because the ones I used during the walk defintely need to be retired.  They have had enough mileage put on them at this point.  I hope the ones I bought work out - I have had my fair share of sneaker dissappointment (4 pairs in the last 4 months - and only one that I acutually liked).

Anyway - hopeing for a good food week and workout week.  I've got a business dinner tomorrow (which I would love to try and skip out on the dinner part and just be there to schmooze during cocktails, but that would proabably look pretty bad.).  i plan on working out at lunch to make up for it.

Other than that, I tried on my wedding dress again yesterday and I wasn't too dissappointed.  At least that is a bonus!

Hey ladies - so tuesday night was a bust - I just wasn't feeling good enough to workout.  So we ended up going to the movies and dinner consisted of popcorn (which I know is so bad for you) and sour patch kids.  Not the healthiest meal I've ever eaten.

Last night was my food tasting for the reception - which was really nice and the food was pretty decent, so that was good... but I have no idea on the calories!  it was all pretty rich and I drank a lot of wine (maybe so they think you will like the food more if you are 'under the influence' worked for me!)

I tried running yesterday during lunch, but my legs were cramping and that damn arch charlie horse got to me so I ended up just doing some interval uphill walking and then some biking, which lasted about 30 minutes.  I am going to my training session at lunch today and then swimming tonight, and then out to dinner for a friends bday, which will probably be more calories than I want.

I am still feeling that personal embarassment that I talked like I was going to lose all this weight for the wedding and I am no where near losing a lot of weight.  I know that I just have to accept myself and know that all these people coming to my wedding obviously already love me as overweight and expect me to look the same so any loss is a bonus.

I'm just dissappointed in myself.  And I'm angry.  And that makes me want to eat.  Which is a vicious cycle.

Hope everyone else is having a better mental health day than I am having today :)

I survived the Avon Walk this past weekend - 39.3 miles - although I must admit, at times I didn't think I was going to make it.  My feet and blisters were so painful and my hips and joints had just had enough towards the end of both days.  But I chugged through and made it.

I did eat like crap the entire weekend - cookies and salty carby snacks while walking, bagels for breakfast, burgers and pasta for dinner.  But I fugured I burned an extra 2000 cals on Saturday (walking for almost 12 hours) and 1000 calories on Sunday (walking 6 hours) that it probably evened out.  I'll let you know if I see any loss this week - most people say you retain water for a few days after, so I won't weigh myself until Friday.

I took the day off from work and from essentially moving yesterday - I went out for a little walk to rent movies from the library and I ended up cramping and having charly horses in my arches so I went back home and sat on my ass for the rest of the day.

Tonight I will swim - tomorrow morning I will go back to training and I am not going to try and run again until Friday.

Wednesday is the food tasting for my reception, so I'll plan on eating light during the day as I have no idea how a food tasting goes and how much I'll be eating/tasting.

Hope everyone is doing great!

Weight Loss Lost 5 lbs in one day... Apr 30 2008

My guess is period bloat.  Right when I finish mine, I see a 3-4 lb drop right away.  maybe it hit you harder this month then usual and maybe you lost a real lb or 2 during the cycle, which resulted in the 5lb loss.  I don't think there is anything in particular you did to make it happen...  Did you see a gain right before you started your period?  I usually see 2lbs.

Be happy about the overall loss - and hope the scale keeps going down!

hey ladies -

All is well here - yesterday I signed up for these swim team workouts I used to do when I lived closer to the pool.... I decided the workouts were so good that I should go back to them and it was worth the commute to the pool.  So yesterday was my first night back (they meet on tues/thurs/sun nights) and I did pretty good.  I was hoping this would be a way for me to work on slimming down my upper body (I am totally pear shaped and am fine with my junk in the trunk - I really want to slim down my arms and back so I can wear a strapless wedding dress and feel good).

I ate like a champ yesterday (meaning I ate really well).  I snuck into my favorite yoga class after the swim class and that was awesome.  I love how that feels - a full hour of stretching (I do hatha yoga - anything else stresses me out!).  So my body feels good - like it can take the beating I am about to give it.

Today is running at lunch and then the trainer after work.  Tomorrow is swimming again.  Friday is the trainer and then heading down to D.C. for the walk.... you all know what I'll be doing on Saturday and Sunday... WALKING!

Hi ladies - not much activity going on with this board.... how's everyone doing?  I've been at the same weight for the past month +.  Super annoyed.   I mean what is the point of working out?  But maybe this should teach me that it's more about the food I put in my mouth than the calories I burn.

Shower invites went out last week.   I just picked up the wedding invites and will be spending the next few weeks getting them together to send them out.  Food tasting and flower mock-ups are all next week.  Everything is moving along as scheduled... except for the weightloss!

Anyway - dress fittings start in 5 weeks.  Wish me luck!

xzcandizx - I'm actually doing the walk in D.C. this weekend - so it's not the Revlon one (which I know is funny that's it's this weekend in Times Square :).  Yeah - there is one in NYC in October, but I was hoping that doing the walk now would help with the weighloss since it would be before the wedding, not after like the October one is.

I hope I feel like a tourist in D.C. - the walk goes through all the monuments and the Mall and Capitol Hill and then outside the city, so that should be fun to have something new to look at.  After all the walking I have done in NYC, Bronx, Brooklyn, Westchester and Long Island (to keep it interesting), it will be nice to have some new scenery.

Happy Monday - I didn't weigh myself this morning... but I woke up at 6 and couldn't go back to sleep so I decided to get up and go to the gym and I got in a great workout, so I can't complain.  had a nice weekend - went for a long walk with the fiance that was great and then yesterday did some cleaning and laundry and picked up the wedding invites (yay!) so it was a pretty great weekend (except for the 1/2 pizza I ate on Saturday night).  The thing that sucks about the weekend is that I eat out almost every meal.  Which means more calories than I would normally take in if I was cooking for myself.  Anyway - gotta get the but in gear!

This weekend is the big Avon walk so I am looking forward to a long walk and getting that done.

How's everyone else doing???

Eat right, eat healthy, eat smart... and you'll be fine.  Plenty of people lose the weight just through calorie intake alone so you can easily not workout for a week and maintain or even lose!  Just get your minimum 1200+ and take care of yourself!

Everyone is welcome!  and considering our starting numbers have dwindled, it will be nice to get some more people involved in posting.

I completed my 22 mile walk on saturday and then did 7.5 and 2.5 (had to break it up) to walk the 10 miles on Sunday.  And I feel pretty good!  I must say I got home on Saturday around 5:30 - walked around like a zombie whenever I got up from the couch and fell asleep by 9:30.  I guess I needed it.  The weather was gorgeous - high 60s and sunny, but I did get a wicked sunburn on the back of my neck.  Anyway - it took approx 8 hours (9 with stops) and that's a lot of walking.

This week calms down and this weekend calms down too before the big walk in 2 weekends.

One thing that is bad about the walks is that I have been allowing myself to eat terribly when I get home because I think, well, I just burned 2000 extra calories today, I should be able to eat whatever.  And then I just eat crap.  So I need to work on that.

Looking forward to a good week.  We are exactly 3 months from July 19th!

19 miles took about 8 hours, including a 1 hour lunch break.  So it was a lot of walking and some tender feet at the end of the walk.  This saturday is 22 miles - yikes! - and then next weekend I taper down and the weekend after that is the big walk so I am siked for that.  I just hit my $1800 fundraising goal, so that's a relief.

Watched the biggest loser last night and it was great because my fiance and I decided to watch the show while walking on the treadmill so he did 90 minutes and I did 75 minutes and it was great, because we are usually sitting on our a$$es while watching the show.  I should have been doing that all season long!  Anyway, Ali won, but i really wanted Kelly to win, because Ali was really starting to annoy me and she was getting super cocky.  Yeah, i know she thinks she's the ****, but seriously... have a little humility.

Anyway, trainer tonight - gym tomorrow, day off on Friday then big walk on Saturday and little-big walk on sunday (10 miles) and I hope to see some weightloss.  I dipped over and back under 200, and last night during one of the commercial breaks I ran at 6.0mph for a couple of minutes, so that was personally impressive.

Fantasizing about wearing the dress and feeling great - fantasizing even more about bikinis on the beach.

Noka - my best friend called me this morning to tell me her 12 week sonogram didn't go so well - there was no heartbeat :(.  She's handling it amazingly well, but I must say that I really feel for her.  I don't know how I'd handle the same situation.

Hi ladies -

I have a blister on my second toe that is killing me... yesterday was a 19 mile walk (was supposed to be 20 miles, but we just couldn't take it anymore!) but it was great.  Calorie count says I burned 2000 calories.  Too bad I probably negated that with the chinese food dinner I ate!  I feel terrible about that.

Anyway, back on track with food (although I am starving all day today) and going to try to lose another pound or two this week.  Hopefully the 2lb gain I saw this morning has to do with retaining water since I didn't drink enough on the trail and I ate the chinese food.

Stressing about July 19th and not looking amazing, but trying hard to get my head in the game.  I hope this blister will not be an excuse to not exercise hard this week... last week was a great week for working out.  it's five weeks until dress alterations start.  here's hoping for a miracle!

Fitness Long Walk Apr 14 2008
18:45 (UTC)

Most people generally walk a 20 minute mile.

If you were walking on streets, you can use the website www.mapmywalk.com and you can click on where you walked, it will tell you the distance and then you can figure out how many miles and hour you walked based on walking as long as you did.  then you can use the activity log to figure out your calorie expenditure.

I am training for the Avon Walk, so I've been using the website to figure out how far I am walking - cause walking around a track for 20 miles is BORING... plus, I can't keep the number of how many times around the track I've gone in my head!

Good luck!
