For me...asparagus!  I have spent almost 39 yrs absolutely positive this was one of the grossest vegetables on the planet.  I just discovered about a week ago that I LOVE it!  Roasted for just about 10 minutes at 425...mmmmmm...just had some tonight!  I also have discovered turkey burgers do taste like regular burgers and the spicy black bean veggie burger is actually a tasty item.  Can't say I like a lot of total vegetarian foods - but that is one I like.  My son likes those $1 "riblet" tv dinners that I KNOW is not meat - so I recently tried a veggie riblet out on him (I didn't tell him - of course) - and he LOVED it!  Proof to me that the other one isn't real meat either ~lol~  I didn't have the guts to try it, but I am trying to cut out some of the fat in his diet as well.

Love them!  I like the regular spaghetti shaped ones and have determined that for me, they are better if they have sat in a sauce for an extended period of time.  On their own, the noodle has no flavor and a different texture - but they absorb the flavor of the sauce and seasoning.  I have added them to stir-fry and pasta sauce.  I have not been able to find them anywhere locally - so I have to order them on-line, but they also go by the name of yam noodles at some stores.  I ordered my first packages from asiangrocer.com because I could get a smaller quantity to try.  Good luck.

well - I am discouraged... I am going the wrong way on the scale.  I was on vacation with my son for a week - but I was actually good!  We walked a lot and I kept track of everything and actually ended the week under in calories vs. expediture.  I still GAINED weight!  I have been home for 4 days and it is not water weight, travel weight or any other phantom....why???  I am now 123.6.  I am really tired of the scale going the wrong way.  On the positive - we had a fabulous vacation!  Just wish the news was better when I got home.

If you gain weight for the first few weeks after starting just as a normal process..my question is why and when does that weight go away?  It isn't gained from extra calorie consumption.

I realize this original post is a year old - but wondering how everyone's quitting smoking has gone and for rbenum...how long does it take to have everything get back to normal?  I am on 1 1/2 months and don't feel normal yet....fell off for two days - but don't think that should have started me back at square one.  I am working out and watching what I eat, but the scale goes up  :(  I haven't given up on quitting - but I wanted to lose 5 pounds - now I need to lose 10.  Other peoples experience/timeframes would be helpful.  Thanks.

I totally agree!  I have a ceral combo I eat almost every day that is 1/3 of 3 different cereals.  I have to search and add each daily.  I thought about printing the information on each of these, doing the math and then making up a food so I could tag it...haven't done that yet, though.

I'd like to be in.  I want anything from 7-10 since I seem to be going up instead of down lately - but am hoping those last 3 right now are not long lasting :(...and I am in for the long haul - but my goal date is April 17th (I turn 39...another Undecided)  Ok with aging - but want to go into the almost 40 mark at my goal weight and maintain.

I tried them tonight.  They are different in consistency - a bit rubbery - but don't have any flavor of their own.  I simmered in pasta sauce a dumpling like noodle and was very satisfied.  I am looking forward to trying the traditional noodle shape in a stir fry to see how the noodle cooks up using that method.  I bought them on-line from asiangrocer.com (I checked the stores locally and couldn't find).  I didn't want to order the 20 pack of miracle noodle since I didn't know if I like them or not.  Probably paid a little more in shipping, but didn't want extra food no one would eat.  So far it is ok.  I wouldn't run right out and buy more, but it isn't a bad food.  Just struggling with how to cook with them since they have no flavor of their own.  As I said, looking foward to trying the traditional noodle shape.

I just tried them tonight.  Had to order them on-line from Asiangrocer.  Odd consistency (tried the ones that were tied up like dumplings) - but simmered them in pasta sauce and they really had no flavor of their own and are filling.  I am looking forward to trying the more traditional noodle shape in a stir fry.  I am going to add shrimp and use a seasoning pack from a Ramein noodle package and see how it goes.  If it is too weird, I may look to add this as 1/2 of the noodles in a stir fry.  I want to make the same meal for myself and my 9 yr old - so if it is too different, he will balk - but he loves Asian food, so I think he will be game to try.  We are working on smart food choices - and he is getting good at understanding food labels.  He will still take cheetos over granola (LOL!)

Foods Where to get freeze dried fruit? Mar 08 2009

I bought freeze dried mixed berries from amazon.com .  Absolutely delicious.  Crunchies Freeze-Dried Very Berry, 1-Ounce Pouches (Pack of 6)  I don't know if the link will work - but I signed up for the subscription for the additional discount.  I searched all of my local stores and had zero luck before going to my trusted internet. (LOL!)  Very tart and are great in oatmeal, cereal,  heck...I like them just out of the bag.

I am with you!  But don't give up!  I have just been through a virtual buffet myself for dinner while working on homework with my son...however - everything was small portion. lower calorie, relatively healthy (minus the 100 caloried Reese's snack thing).  I am only at 1425 total calories for the day (only 5'3" so goal calories is 1300 - but feel like all control was lost.  I was struggling with the why and what I am have determined is a combination of 1)over tired and 2) stress .  Both of these have my ability to center my feeling of control to some degree...and being tired also alters my focus causing me to not be able to determine what exactly I was hungry for in the first place.  The stress is part work and trying to be "healthy"/lose weight.  I am actually gaining weight since I renewed my efforts to lose.  So my advice to you is the same I am giving myself.  Get plenty of rest, drink enough fluids and make sure to have enough protein rich foods.  Too many carbs send me into a feeding frenzy.  Last, keep with the exercise.  Good luck to you.

Weight Loss What am I doing wrong?!?!?!? Feb 28 2009

I completely understand where you are coming from but, I don't think you are eating too much at all!  From the sound of your excercise you should be dropping at least a pound a week.  I am similar at 5'4" and eating - don't exercise as hard, but track everything and should have lost at least a solid 2 lbs over the past month.  Instead I have gained a solid pound.  It is very frustrating.  I am trying to tell myself that getting back into working out is changing muscle; however the argument that muscle weighs more than fat is ridiculous.  A lb of muscle weighs = to a lb a fat.  A lb is a lb.  I am not giving up though, and neigher should you.  My advise is to make sure you have enough water, vitamins and protein in your diet - particularly iron.  When my iron level is low, I lack energy.  Also make sure to calculate the actual difference between your calorie intake and expenditure.  If the difference is too much, your body will try to keep its energy and you will not have the fuel your muscles need to keep motivated.  I don't like the term "starvation mode" - but that is how cc'ers refer to it.  Best of luck.

Weight Loss Same Weight - Different Appearance... Thoughts and answers if you can... Feb 22 2008
00:05 (UTC)
Unfortunately I think it is part of our aging and psyche.  I recently was at the same weight as high school.  I don't look nearly as thin now as was then.  I still had the same 5lbs to lose to be 'perfect' (at least as far as my view of the scale) then as now.   I know that I had more muscle then vs now and that is a factor of having kids and less time for the activity.  Except for a health issue now that is causing my scale to rise, I decided the toning can be done - but I can't reverse time.  I want to continue to be healthy as I age and will work on maintaining muscle tone.  I'll keep the scale as a guide and how my clothes look/fit as the true measure.  Take the treadmill walk if you can't get outside and just start on the muscle toning.  No big weightlifting, just basics.  The psyche is harder to deal with.  We as a gender never seem to be satisfied with ourselves and I think we are doing a disservice not only to us, but also to the next generation.  Find something you like about yourself and focus.  Then pick your second favorite and realize that you are probably a wonderful person.  I know this sounds easy to say - but I am working the same issues.  Keep positive - that will go a long way to accomplishing your goals.

I feel for you!  Any unprepared 'free' bad for you things taste sooo good!  Had a similar experience going for chinese with friends where the planned next stop was a new Krispy creme that opened.  After being talked into the po-po platter in addition to teh generals chicken we go to buy our donut....only to be standing in line while they are giving out whole 'free sample' donuts!  What are you to do...you are in line to buy as well...so you eat two little grease bombs and beat yourself up the rest of the night.  My advise is let it go.  Have a healthy dinner...salad and vegetables.  Walk on the treadmill and think about spring and the nice time you had with your sister.   Count the blessings and tomorrow is another day.

I haven't tried the truejeans.com site, but my recommendation would be for Talbot's Petite.  The are very comfortable and they are the only pair my ex EVER said looked great (he was extremely honest ont the 'honey - do these make my butt look big question' (LOL!).  Seriously, though, I always get compliments in those jeans.   Hope it helps.
