| Weight Loss | low carb? high fat? low protein? high protein? ARGHHHH! | Nov 17 2009 16:30 (UTC) |

I think the only reason that you lose weight on very low carb diets (faster) is because a) you are depleting your glycogen stores and b) i think carbs retain more water than protein or fats. therefore you are really just losing an excess of water...which will come back once you start eating carbs again. and if you like carbs chances are on a very strict no carb diet you will crave and be more suseptable to binging once you go off of it. -just my two cents

| Weight Loss | Daily Weigh Ins? | Nov 06 2009 17:30 (UTC) |

I weigh in daily as well. I found when i waited one day a week there was so much pressure around the weigh in, and it would seriously affect my eating, if i was up i would freak out and if i was down i would over celebrate by eating treats. Thats what it did for me, now when i weight every day i understand my weight fluctuates daily and it doesnt bug me but i can deff. see an overall trend in loss. So for me the scale doesnt make me freak out as much any more. |

| Weight Loss | Tuna for weight loss? | Nov 03 2009 00:39 (UTC) |
|
I eat a lot of tuna and I am not too concerned about the associated risks. The reason? my father is a General Practitioner and had a patient who was concerned about mercury poisening, after eating two cans of tuna a day for years. He had this tested (not sure how they do it) and his levels were totally fine!I know that this eg. is only one. However, I think I will continue eating tuna on a regular basis. |

I agree with the above comments. A half a pound is *nothing* to fret about, My weight fluctuates sometimes 2-3 pounds from one day to the next depending on many factors ie, sodium consuption, bowel movements, water intake, alot of exercise and resulting water retention.... |

| Weight Loss | carbs need help please | Feb 22 2009 16:13 (UTC) |

You mentioned above that you feel dizzy all day. Well starting your morning with a whopping load of sugar will do that to you! Fruit is very high in sugar and having three to start off your day is probably too much. Add that to all the caffiene you are consuming. DId you recently start drinking all this coffee or have you always had 2-3 mugs? if it is a new ammount of caffiene likely you are shaky from that. Your breakfast is very high carb and needs some protein to help you metabolize all the sugar and have a more stable blood sugar level all day. Try adding some snacks in between your breakfast and lunch and another snack between lunch and dinner. For example-half a cup of tuna on celery. (low fat and high protein) or a small yoghourt such as source or silhouette. |

| Weight Loss | How to know if you're in starvation mode | Feb 22 2009 16:08 (UTC) |

WOW , this is so similar to my situation- except I am 5'0. Same deal pretty much! I feel so mad that I am stuck at 137/138...like why wont it budge? I am super active and watch what I eat. How the hell do people loose 1 pound a week?/end rant haha Let us know how increasing the calories goes! I am way to afraid to up my calories as my metabolism hates me too. I eat around 1200-1300 and then 1600 or way higher on my high days of calorie cycling. Usually the weekend gets the better of me-I am trying to stop this pattern. I hate not loosing any more weight and really putting effort into it.

i love cereal! it used to be my binge-attack kind of food when i didnt allow myself to eat it. It is not realistic for it to not be in my house, i live with my family still...so now i eat it in moderation or snack on it whenver i want and just make sure it fits into my calories for the day. however i deff have off days (like today) when i just cant stop eating and feel helpless :( |

| Foods | how to cut back on sugar? | Dec 04 2008 22:37 (UTC) |
3 |
Fruit has alot of sugar!-so if you are trying to cut back on sugar fruits are not the best snack to have. For snacks: I reccomend a hard boiled egg, celery sticks, tuna mixed with some dijon mustard and celery, yves veggie dogs only have 1 g of sugar and 9 grams of protein so wrapped in some lettuce they are a great snack! Breakfast: you could make a morning breakfast burrito using egg whites, a whole grain wrap and some lean meat, im not too good with portable foods but you could also make mini quiche like muffins or another low fat breakfast type muffin. |

what is your protein/carbs/fat ratio? maybe you are eating too many carbs. I am not a professional, but i know that carbs turn into sugar which can result in stored fat in the body. When i personally ( i am short too) eat alot of carbs i just cant loose. I would actually try bumping down your intake for a week or two. I know everyone will read this and be like "oh no your going to go into starvation mode" but short people need to eat less!! I work out 3/4 week vigorously and like to stick at 1200 cals and minimal carbs. that is what works for me but everyone is different! Perhaps you do need to eat more! If nothing is changing you have to mix something up! -Leah |

I agree with mommakitty. I am 5'1 and I know what it is like to be short. It takes eating alot less than someone who is tall to loose weight. (go figure haha) Anyways I have to stick to 1200 to loose weight pretty much the same on days i excercise because I am sedentary every other part of the day. I would find out how many cals you burn in a day (dont neccesarily need to use CC to find this out there a number of other sites). DO NOT GO BELOW 1200-Once you figure out how many cals you burn figure out what you need to create a significant deficit. Ie. 500 cal. You need a deficit of 3500 calls a week = 1 pound of stored fat. |

I totally agree with 4theloss. I also have found through personal experience that WW does not neccesarily teach you the best skills to maintain a healthy lifestyle. I found that in meetings most of the advice was centered around fitting in the foods that you love (ie. icecream, guacamole etc). It was either making "healthier" versions of the bad foods. There was never ANY emphasis on proper balance in your meals. Never talk about the amount of carbs, salt, sugar and processed foods you should be eating. Perhaps its the city I live in. I really think a lifestyle change is about totally understand what you eat and what you should be eating. |

hello! Keep up the good work! I had the same problem for three weeks after I started weighing myself i stayed at the same weight. Every saturday i would check in and still after three weeks no drop! I ate 1200 cals and worked out really hard as well. Today i did my usual weigh in and im down 3 pounds. The body needs some time to adjust to your new plan and will retain water untill it catches up. Your scale will show your lost weight soon just stick with it! |
