Weight Loss Pressure to stop dieting Jun 09 2008

I've dealth w/ the same.  Down to father-in-law saying "weight loss, what are you not happy in your marriage?"....yea, then followed up with "do you want to look like a 12 year old boy?"  I kid you not.

I changed all my friends topics of eating food by changing up calories, diet, etc....I used sodium!!!!  My entire family has had problems with high blood pressure and since I am nearing 40..I'm going to focus on that.  Sodium get's you out of so many things;  hotdogs 650 mgs each, chicken from BK 1200 mgs, 1 package of ketchup from McDonalds' 100mgs, ......use the sodium....I'm not dieting....and how can they argue or nudge you ....redirection......worth a try .

I have lost 33 lbs since February.  And, my kids are more healthy for it.  Plus, my eyes aren't puffy in the morning and my rings fit and aren't on a necklace anymore.

I really hope it helps

Unfortunately, age had a lot to do with getting back your 'figure' along with genetics.  I was lucky.  I had my first 3 in my 20's.  First girl, I gained 27 lbs..she was 7 lbs 4 oz.  The second, I started smaller and gained 35...he was 8 lbs 5 oz.  They were 3 years 3 months apart.  The third, I lost 12 lbs during the first 5 months from nothing but throwing up 5 times a day...I finished at gaining 19 lbs for him....he was 7 lbs. 1 oz.  Those 2 boys are 2 years 2 months apart.  Two weeks after having him, I ran into an acquaintance that I had dinner with 2 weeks before he was born.  She didn't know I was preganant (because of sweatshirts mainly).  Within 2 weeks of having all of them I was back in the same jeans within 2 to 4 lbs of prepregnancy weight.......

Now, here's the other side.  My last 2 I had in my mid 30's.  The fourth on, another little girl, I gained 34 lbs and she weighed 6 lbs 13 oz.  It took me 3 1/2 weeks to fit in the jeans...lucky still.  The fifth one!!!Now you definately know I'm crazy right..they are 20 months apart......anyway, I only gained 24 lbs (he came out at 35.1 weeks) weighed 6 lbs 8 oz....Here's the moral of the long story.  He just turned 2 1/2.  I just put my jeans in the closet on this week.  After, a really stricked work out and diet on here....for 10 weeks.  And, being older now.....the skin isn't going back either.  Never again will a two piece bathing suit be appropriate.....it's grandmother kind now...lol

By the way Congratulations......I was lucky with labor as well...my longest was my first 2 hours and 22 mins....It's all not horror stories.  No 2 babies are the same and no 2 pregnacies are the same....don't believe all the 3 days in labor stories.

Thanks everyone for telling me about refilling them with tap water being dangerous.  I went online for a little while and found some disagreeing facts...I'll post what I found.  I would love for you to share your links with me.  I honestly, let my children drink out of them to so this is a major concern for me.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reuse_of_water_b ottles

Reusing water bottles is the practice of refilling and reuse of plastic or glass water bottles designed for one use, with tap water for multiple uses.

Reusing single-use bottles is a common domestic practice. Typically the bottle is washed out with warm soapy water after each use. Periodically a bleach solution may be employed to kill bacteria. Washing and re-using bottles cuts down on waste and landfill, and drinking tap water is much less resource-intensive than buying commercially bottled water.

[edit] Health risks from reuse of water bottles

This article or section uses first-person ("I" or "we") or second-person ("you") inappropriately.
Please edit it to use a more formal, encyclopedic tone.(March 2008) The tone or style of this article or section may not be appropriate for Wikipedia.
Specific concerns may be found on the talk page. See Wikipedia's guide to writing better articles for suggestions.(March 2008)

The bottom line truth to this rampant rumor is as follows: A student wrote her senior thesis (in 2002) on potential risks from reusing a specific type of plastic bottle made with a particular type of plasticiser called DEHA (in the bottle's production). When the bottle would be frozen or heated, potentially breaking down this plastic, the DEHA COULD leach into the bottle's contents. DEHA is a potential carcinogen.

Today's bottles are made using PET, not DEHA. Further, the biggest risk you are warned of is regarding bacteria that may develop in the bottle between uses. You are recommended to wash the interior with warm soapy water and let 100% dry before re-filling. As practically no one employs this method, you have no problem. The American Cancer Society has actually commented on this issue with same opinion as the one you've read. In New Zealand, people were so freaked out that the government officially commented the same. Both of these opinions are readily available on line.

Think the water bottlers want to dispel this rumor and encourage you to bottle your own water?

[edit] DEHA and Diethylhydroxylamine chain letter

In 2003, a chain email was widely circulated making claims about the leaching of chemicals from plastic bottles from repeated washing, rinsing or heating. The email mentioned the chemical DEHA, which is also known as di(2-ethylhexyl) adipate. The letter was based on media reporting of a student's thesis, which was later found to be inaccurate.

Note: PET or PETE refers only to bottles with a "1" plastic recycling code.

I saw your profile and it says you are 14.  I was 14 when I started my period as well.  I would say anytime now.

As far as not having children, I weighed 103 and am 5'5" when my I got pregnant with my 2nd child....he was the largest 8lbs 5 ounces.

Please eat healthy, stay active, ask your doctor some questions when you go for your next check up.  He/she will or should have some literature to share with you.....chin up.

I read the back of everything now.  A single hotdog has over 600 mgs of sodium...i used to eat 3 at a time.....I usually eat a healthy choice dinner for lunch....they are only 250 - 330 in calories, however anywhere from 550 to 600 mgs of sodium.  I always thought I was doing well by eating grilled chicken salads when I took the kids to BK or Mc Donalds....the chicken has over 700 alone and the salad dress (lite, diet) 510 for the plastic packet.

As far as suggestions, rinse the canned veggies or Del monte makes no sodium added, I purchase which ever has the least sodium with most everything now, wheat buns I think are Sara Lee...instead of weight watchers snack bars I buy the fiber one bars, I quit using condiments like steak sauce, ketchup....I used diet mayo from kraft (better than helmans), use mustard, red wine vinegar or lemon on salads.....oh yea, I used to buy bagged tysons chicken for the kids. You know running late something quick in the oven.  Tyson buffalo chicken strips have 1200 mgs for 2 pieces (NO KIDDING)...

It's really working for me.  I've lost 24 lbs in 9 weeks......and, I have a cheat day every week.  Instead of ordering lobster with steak last Sat night, I had grilled shrimp.....and a really big foster's draft.  lol

My first week I paid more attention to my sodium (I did watch calories as well)...I was eating double the amt I should be.  I woke in the morning with puffy eyes, my wedding rings were tight....I lowered my sodium under 2000 mg and I lost 7lbs the first week...all in water weight.  It was a great boost for the ego.

I'm really not sure....I wish I could help with something more positive other than pregnancy/hormones do crazy stuff to your body.  I would say right now, if you need to sleep...maybe just sleep (stop trying to fight it).  Try to give it a little more time.  I have had 5 babies.  Like every child is different, each pregnancy is different....I was still naping until after Aidan (the last one) was one.  And! I would get really, really %!?*@# when people would call between 12:30 PM and 2:30 PM.  I was really nasty.

are you ready for this one......I married a guy 8 1/2 years younger than me, that weighed 165...then, after being married went down to 145 (he was also in grad school)....I was 147...talk about being insecure.  I weighed 103 when I married him.........anyway, 5 kids later, 8 weeks with the best aerobics instructer/best friend...I'm 125 and he's 155....(he by the way doesn't ever work out, eats anything and everything he wants, drinks beer....it's rediculously stupid...and definately not even fair...) I look at a brownie and gain 5lbs......now, I find I'm eating prunes on a daily basis for fiber intake......so yea...it's just not right.!!!
Weight Loss Daily Sodium Intake Mar 07 2008
12:29 (UTC)

I use the mayo clinic for most information I use....here is what is their recommendations:

How much sodium do you need?

Various organizations, including the National Academy of Sciences' Institute of Medicine, have published recommendations for daily sodium intake. Most recommend between 1,500 and 2,400 milligrams (mg) a day for healthy adults. A lower sodium intake has a more beneficial effect on blood pressure.

If you are older than 50, are black or have a health condition such as high blood pressure, chronic kidney disease or diabetes, you may be more sensitive to the blood pressure raising effects of sodium. As a result, aim for a sodium intake at the low end of the range recommended for healthy adults. Talk to your doctor about the sodium limit that's best for you.

I eat the healthy choice meals..the chicken broccoli alfredo seems to be the less calorie and my main concern the less 'sodium'....I lost 7 lbs in the first week from taking my sodium level down to half (4000 the first day I logged in..thinking that a grilled chicken salad at bk was good for me close to1500 with the lite dressing...what an insane though).  I am working on staying close to 1400 with sodium....high blood pressure runs in the family...I'm only 37, but trying to think ahead of the game...I'm now down 21 pounds in 7 weeks...the thighs actually have a small yet slim amount of light between them....I also have been paying attention to the children's (5 of them) sodium intake...figure there is no time like the present...

I wish I had a more positive response.....but here goes, I have had 5 children.  Yes! Five naturally born children...I have prayed, begged, and cursed that the extra skin would go away.  I'm 5'5" and 126 lbs...37 years old....I'm over it now.  This year, I just want to put my knees together and not have my thighs touch....this week was the one.  I can see the slightest amount of light.  As far as the skin on my tummy, when I put my shoes on there are more than 4 rolls.  ???? I'll cross my fingers with you.

I just went to New Orleans last weekend.  I did take my lap top and it was a life saver.  I had a six hour delay/layover in TN and I played online the whole time.  Most of the airports I was in had free online service.  However, TN did not but I purchased for $7 for 5 hours.  Just remember that you have to take it out of the case and put it in it's own plastic container to check threw security.

I was only gone for 3 days.  I didn't log in once or count a single anything (not even alcoholic drinks)....AND, I weighted the same when I came home.  I was so surprised that one bad weekend didn't effect me....

 Have a great time....

I bought a bunch of dried fruits (prunes, dried apricots, etc.).  Plus, I put spinach in everything (spaghetti sauce, chicken fajitas, etc.......really did the trick.  I purchased some fiber one bars as snacks and to be as nice as possible, all I got was a belly full of gas.  I was concentrating more on no being rude during crunches and aerobics, that I wasn't paying attention to what I was suppose to be squeezing........hope it helps...

I have actually lost 19.5 lbs....it's been 5 full weeks.  I start counting on Mondays, so I just started week 6.  AND, I went to New Orleans for 3 days (Friday to Sunday), I ate things that I would never eat and drank beer...It was my husband's birthday and he was there for a conference.  Anyway, the main thing is I came home and refused to weight until Monday morning (I was way to scared to lose the progress).  I still was the same this morning...I was so elated, that I cheated for 3 days and kept the same weight.  By the way, I did 2 hours of aerobics tonight and was sweating like crazy, maybe I'll see some more tomorrow morning...I only log in my weight on Sundays, but I do check everyday..

Believe it or not, add the calories really did make the biggest change i lost 4 pounds in 5 days (by my schedule it was 2 weeks, but reality it was 5 days)..all by adding 400 calories...

I just want to make it threw out of shape aerobics with out sweating.  However, the instructer did phone last thursday night and asked what got into me??  Saying how proud of me she was, etc.........It really helped that someone noticed...maybe if I get to 120, I'll think about triathlon with you....doubt it but maybe....sounds painful....I'm on a roll, it could happen...:)

I can honestly say my biggest motivation was losing 7 lbs (decreasing the 4000 mg of sodium in one day) in a week.  After that, I was hooked.  I drank at least 10 bottles of water, gave up caffine, and tried really hard to wake up 1 hour early to do the chores I always put off.

I was eating at BK and MCDee's.  I thought I was doing really well by eating salads with 'grilled chicken"...the chicken has more than 700 mg of sodium and the little pack of dressing "lite" has 500....all I was doing was packing on water weight...and giving my self high blood pressure.

Now, I cheat...but, I check before I do...We actually went out for dinner at outback...I had 1/2 the steak I use to eat all of, order shrimp in stead of lobster to go with it, and had a sweet potato with no extras....a salad with no dressing ( a little honey mustard on the side that I actually ate 3 bites of....cheater)....anyway...

I have lost 19.5 lbs in 5 1/2 weeks....with a 3 day trip to New Orleans....and yes, I drank beer and ate things that no one ever should....

By the way, YOU CAN DO THIS.......tomorrow is another day, but TODAY is a good start.....I know you can.....chin up...

Weight Loss Discouraged! Feb 21 2008

I totally understand where you are coming from....I have been trying so hard to lose weight and have done a really great job (19 pounds in 6 weeks).  I have a husband that comutes to DC during the week and is home on the weekends.  I have to ask if he see's a change...it drives me crazy.  Then again, he doesn't notice a 4 inch hair cut for at least 3 weeks...Just for a plus, my daughter's birthday party was on Saturday.  My aerobics instructure came with her husband (that I see probably every 3 months)....he actually said to her my gosh Amanda has lost quite a bit a weight....

My point....sorry for the long story..people that see you everyday might not notice as much as people that see you less often....find someone you haven't seen in a month...and unfortunately if they don't say something ...ask???  It will still help the ego....

You are really doing a great job....keep it up...and if no one notices ..I do....

I started out weighing more than I did when I gave birth.......I think I was just sad and alone..
