first, give yourself a break! you can't change over night and/or see results overnight. it took time to gain all that weight and it will take time to take it off. your body is probably in shock and trying to figure out what the hell is going on! try not to look at it as 'losing weight,' but rather changing your lifestyle. if it is only about losing weight you will very likely gain it back. be proud of your everyday accomplishments and only look forward. imagine the new you and lifestyle and set goals---not just weight goals, but exercise goals etc. this MUST be a lifestyle change, and in life you are not perfect everyday. lastly, YOU ARE PROBABLY NOT EATING ENOUGH if you are only consuming 1000 cals and working out! your body is starving and instead of burning fat, it is burning muscle. it thinks it needs to store fat because you are fueling your body enough. I suggest consulting with a dietician and getting your resting metabolic rate tested. it can be done. I have lost over 75 lbs in the last year, 100 lbs in the last 2 years. I recently have plateaued again with my weight (195 lbs), but instead of being frustrated by not seeing the scale move, I have focused on my new goal of running and seeing inches lost (I measure myself x1/month) I know the scale will eventually start moving again, but I am not about to give up just because some lilttle needle isn't moving fast enough. if I keep doing with I know is best for my body, the rest will come. by any means I am not an expert. 2 years ago I could hardly walk a mile without feeling like I was dying. last sunday i ran my first 5K marathon! I would have never imagined I could run that far or long without stopping and like it! One of my favorite quotes is "I never regret it when I do it, I only regret it when i don't." Have I had bad, really bad days, YES! Have I gone long periods of not execising or hating every minute of it, YES! have I regretted I allowed myself to get so fat, YES! Have I resented my loved ones for not honestly telling me how fat I was, YES! Have I resented that I have to try so hard and others don't have the struggle, hell YES! Have I regretted any of it, NO! because that is how I have learned. what has made the difference for me: -I keep challenging myself (whether it is with a new workout goal like trainging for a 5K or making it through the day without snacking on any of the hidden food traps at work) -I give myself no other option (this is my new life and it will always be challenging. maybe not always this hard, but something I will always work on) -I decided this is it and my decision is firm! -I am doing this for myself and NO ONE else! -I deserve to be the best me! -I know how crappy it feels to be the 'fat' me and my current daily struggles aren't 1/2 as bad as that -I allow my a few 'slip up' days here and there, and then get over it! I say all this with a very kind heart. i still have 30 or more pounds to lose and I know they will be my toughest 30. but at least I am living the life I was meant to live instead of hiding inside that fat suit. just don't give up. it's not simple, it's not easy, but YOU CAN DO IT!

Hi, my name is Sara and I can totally relate to your challenge. I have lost a total of 62 lbs over the last 8 months and a total of 92 lbs since summer of '07. I would love to share more of my story with you, my "rock bottom," and would also love the support as I work towards losing my next 38 lbs. by june. (that will mark my 100 lb mark and 1 year anniversary) To give you a quick, short story of my success----I am looking at it as changing my lifestyle and looking/feeling healthy v.s losing weight. I work out and lift weights 4-5 days/week and follow the South Beach Diet, recently started tracking on this site and measure myself weekly so if I don't see the scale move, I likely see inches being lost. I have done it the "old fashioned way," eating healthy and exercise--no way around that. But I refuse to be 90% of the population that gain the weight back, so I am doing it the "right way,'' no matter how long it takes. Even after I hit my 100 lbs mark, I will still have another 10-20 lbs. to be where "the charts" tell me to be, but at that point, anything is possible. Good Luck with your new you! |
