Weight Loss Is this OK? Apr 18 2007

I think it's normal. I do the same thing. I also agree that if it works for you, go ahead. It would be worse for me if I waited all week thinking that scale was gonna move and then it didnt. It would be too frustrating to wait another week.

Foods could you help me guess the calories? Apr 15 2007
21:31 (UTC)
You can use the tripled amounts, just enter in the exact number of muffins you got from the recipe.

For instance, the calculator can figure out how many calories is in a lb. of flour, lb. of butter etc. and if you got 100 muffins it will divide the total by 100.  Occasionally you run into something it doesnt have a count for but that doesnt happen very often.

One thing i do is divide the number of servings by how many servings I actually get and not the amount it says in the recipe. For instance, I have big eaters at my house, so if a recipe says it makes 6 servings, but I actually only got 4, I'll enter in 4 servings.

If you know the measurements you used, you can go to recipes at the top of this page, click on new recipe and enter your recipe. Put in the number of muffins you got from your recipe and the site will do the work for you. Dont ya just love it!

I went to weight watchers for 3 years and I got so tired of writing down everything i ate. When i quit I started gaining and have gained back half of the 75 lbs. I lost. I have found keeping track of my intake on this site is much easier than writing it all down. Been here a month and have lost 5 lbs. so far. Not a quick fix, but at least its going in the right direction. Good luck to you.

I've done the peep jousting thing. Dont know what I did wrong. Maybe didnt put them close enough to each other. But I found out they sure do taste good in the microwave!

This year I found myself in the candy aisle, looking at Cadbury eggs and peeps. I chose the Peeps. I thought that was pretty good compared to a Cadbury egg, dont you think. I was at that stage where I was sooooo hungry I just had to have something. I bought the Peeps, shared half with my son. I've never seen sugar-free ones. That would probably be a pig out food.

I also have been choosing one piece of chocolate a day, usually something like a Hershey's miniature or a Kiss. There are quite a few 35-50 calorie options out there. (Cant be perfect all the time!)

Ok, here is what I was I learned in my anatomy class. See if you think it makes sense.

Your liver processes toxins and many other wonderful things. Water is pure and doesnt need to be processed thru the liver. It can go straight to the kidneys and to tissues. Now read the ingredients in the Crystal light. Sounds like a chemistry class doesnt it? All those things need to be sent to the liver to be detoxified before sending them out to the rest of your body. So, in this way, yes, your body processes Crystal Light differently than water.

Maybe there are some chemistry majors out there who can add or explain it better than I can.

Caffeine DOES NOT cause you to retain water. It is a diuretic. That's why we pee so much when we drink it. If all your drinking is coffee, cola's, etc. you can end up with dehydration, even if your drinking lots. It happened to my husband. Ended up in the ER and he drinks at least 10 cans of cola a day plus coffee, but hardly any water. It also happened to a friend of mine. Had been drinking coffee all night (we work night shift) and went to ER by ambulance, thinking she was having a stroke. We thought my husband was having a heart attack. Diagnosis: dehydration.

I've had this happen before. The co-worker was not a friend, but actually an older woman who worked in a different department. I was on my break, dont remember now what I was eating, and she said "Are you suppose to be eating that on your diet"? I jokingly told her "hey, who appointed you the diet police". Maybe not as tactful as some of the other comments, but it worked.

I have the same problem. I work night shift and snacks are all around.  It's hard to go cold turkey and I do get hungry, as it's been quite a few hours ago since my last meal. What I do is to plan for a couple low cal snacks. I do the gum thing until my jaw is sore!  I bring apples, bananas, carrot sticks, string cheese, SF pudding, low cal bread, munchy kinds of cereal, hard candies, that type of thing. If you have access to a microwave the opportunities could be endless!

I call it a stability ball and I love it. I do about 100 every other day and personally I do not agree that I am not working hard enough. They are great if you are older or have a  bad back or whatever that makes it hard to lay on a floor.

As for your stomach, I've heard that you should breathe out as you crunch or that will happen. Are you doing this?
Weight Loss Cereal for Breakfast? Mar 21 2007

I work night shift at a nursing home and take cereal to work for my break almost every night. It's very portable and i can get the milk there. Also I dont have to give it too much thought. I find Raisin Bran to be the most filling, but I like all kinds of healthy cereal. Dont care much for the sugary kinds. Also, oatmeal with half a finely chopped apple and cinnamon is good. I cant imagine anyone would consider raisin bran a kid's food. It also keeps you "running" smoothly. LOL!

I also thank you for your info. I started out around 1200-1400 a day. Lost 3 lbs. right away and then nothing. I'm 2 weeks into it and hungry all the time. I tried increasing to 1400-1600 and still nothing. After reading your story, I think I will try increasing more and see what happens. After 2 weeks of not losing, I'm getting discouraged.  I live in rural minnesota. We dont have all that fancy stuff here. I would be curious how that machine works.
Weight Loss Diet Pills? Has anyone had any luck? Mar 19 2007

Any kind of diet aid just scares the h*** out of me. A few years ago I took metabolife. I had been taking it for several months off and on, not all the time, but just when I needed to get off a plateau. All of a sudden, I became extremely dizzy and thought I was going to pass out. I was home alone at the time and didnt think I could make it to the phone to call anyone and just sat there wondering if when my husband came home he was going to find me dead. The first time I tried it they had ephedrine. After that they took the ephedrine out and I tried it again and the same thing happened. Both times the pills went straight in the garbage. What a waste!

Where did you calculate that you need that many calories. That sounds like an awful lot. I try to keep my calories around 1400 and am losing slowly. 2-3 lbs. a week.

Also, I tried that hoodia stuff. What a waste of money!  Did you know that the only place they get real hoodia is from cacti in Africa, and America sold 100x more hoodia last year than what has ever been harvested in Africa. I read that in Dr. Oz's book "You on a Diet".

I am also just starting out, have lost 3 lbs. the first week, but am hungry most of the time. I'm not a great vegetable eater, but I'm working on it. I know that will help. Try to fill up on the lower calorie vegetables and fruits if you can.

Several years ago I lost 75 lbs going to Weight Watchers. (Are we allowed to say that?)  The week before I started, I pigged out like I was never going to get to eat again, plus the week I started I had an allergic reaction that probably made me retain a lot of fluid, and my second weigh in there I had gained  7 lbs.  If you ate a lot before you started, the calories may be taking a while to catch up to you. The third weigh in I had lost 9 lbs. So stick with it. It will come eventually.

P.S., I've gained half my WW weight back, and am  trying to get a handle on that. I got tired of doing all the logging that you have to do there. After I got to my goal I just didnt want to do that for the rest of my life, so I backslid quite a bit. This site really helps with that.

If you dont feel like exercising, it is probably your body's way of saying you need to rest.  Your body probably wants to put all its energy into healing. If you feel like doing it, go for it, but dont force it.

I dont know where you live, but dont you have a regular family dr? It would really help if you could find someone you are comfortable with and is familiar with you. Yes, an allergy specialist would also be a dr. (at least where I live)  a nutritionist probably could help you and recommend a good diet. They are not drs. However, an enzyme deficiency is not an allergy.

I am curious if your deficiency has been confirmed with a blood test.

I also have this problem when I up my water intake suddenly. You could have an overactive bladder. There is medication for that. More than likely you are just used to emptying your bladder before it gets full. Your bladder will desensitize if you practice waiting to go until it is really full. (Just dont laugh or sneeze!) Also coffee, tea, cola (anything caffeine) can irritate the bladder and urethra and make you feel like you have to go worse than what you do.

One thing I learned in nursing school is that the phosphoric acid in sodas can replace calcium in bones. 1 or 2 a day should not be too harmful, but a lot could predispose to osteoporosis and other bone diseases. And yes, men can get osteoporosis too.
Weight Loss Protease? Feb 26 2007

Hi! You said you were 16. Are your parents helping you with this? It sounds like you really could use their help. I also googled protease deficiency and didnt find it that hard to understand. It can be a very serious medical problem. You need protein to survive. Protease is an enzyme that digests protein. Please do not buy this over the internet. You can get a prescription for it. You dont know what your getting on the internet.

Having said that, I want to tell you, if that is what your doctor said to you, you need to find another doctor. He would not know you have an enzyme definciency without doing a blood test. The comment about not getting enough information from your dr. and needing to research on your own is not true. Your dr. needs to takes the time to explain to you or your parent. Your dr.'s nurse should also be able to explain to you. I am a nurse so I know what I am talking about. Patient teaching is stressed more than anything else in nursing school. If your dr. does not take the time to teach you about any condition that you may have, he is not much of a dr. Remember, he is working for YOU. You are paying his wage. You deserve a thorough answer to any question you might have.
