Caring about people on the internet aint my style.

Anyway, men only change when you let them. If my bf started drinking or calling me fat, I'd kick his ass. He respects me and knows that I'm not someone to be pushed around. Most women don't stand their ground and they let themselves be trapped in a terrible situation by a douche. No guy is interested in a door mat. You have to respect yourself for someone else to.

Wow. Look at you. So wise and so strong and so worldly all at the grand old age of 20!

Someday you just might need the advice, the empathy and the support that the OP - heck, for that matter - all of us need at times.

Just hope that when that time comes you don't hear "hahahaha and this is what happens when... . Sucks!"

I used to think it was "Heard it in a love song, eight feet long" instead of "Heard it in a love song, can't be wrong" on the Marshall Tucker song.

My son used to sing "Come together, right now, for the beat" instead of "Come together, right now, over me" on The Beatles song.

My advice is to get out now, while you can. You already have two young kids, you don't need a third.  He has been using you all this time, what makes you think he is willing to change? Certainly he is not going to change with the way things are now.

Kick him out and take him court to get child support. He will either shape up or ship out when you take that step.

If you keep doing what you are doing now you will never be truly happy.  Why live that way?  Believe it or not, there are many nice men out there who would love to have a wife to love and children to adore.

I don't understand what you are saying.

On one hand you say he needs to be punished. But he does not deserve 10 years. He doesn't deserve it because it is too long and he might die in prison or he doesn't deserve it because it is only 10 years and that is not punishment enough?

What type of punishment does he deserve?

And what does having a "full, prosperous, fantastic" life up to this point have to do with any of this?

Again. I said he deserved more.

And the fact that he's been able to live a "full, prosperous, fantastic" celebrity life is a slap in the face to the victim.

I'm not sure what you don't understand. I didn't contradict myself.

"I said even if he gets and serves 10 years it's not going to fit the crime." - No, you didn't say that anywhere.

"I didn't say he didn't deserve 10 years." - You asked "If he is sentenced to that much time in jail, is that punishment he deserves?" I was just clarifying whether he did or did not deserve it, in your opinion, because it was too short or too long.

And I had no idea your comment about the "celebrity life" was in regard to a slap in the face of the victim.

Pardon me if I needed clarification on those points.

*edited for clarity.

. The punishment is too little too late.

It's a RAPIST! IT IS NEVER TOO LATE FOR THEM TO SUFFER!!!!!!!!

You don't seem to get it. Do I think he should be punished? Of course. But he's lived a full, prosperous, fantastic life. He's 76... maybe he'll live another 10 years. If he is sentenced to that much time in jail (which I doubt), is that punishment he deserves? No.

Furthermore, what if the girl lied about it all?

(i know this isn't the case) Since you people try and dig holes around obstacles, what if the girl lied about refusing the guy's advances on her?

Would you think it incapable of a child to lie about something so dire? It HAS been done before.

Like I said previously, I'm not defending this bastard that took advantage of a child. But children are NOT always innocent no matter how much you would love to believe.

Let's pretend, just for a minute, she did lie about it all.  She willingly took the drugs and willingly had sex with him.

So then it is ok for a 44-yo man to have consensual sex with a 13-yo?

I'm really not understanding whatever it is you are trying to point out here...

At 13 years of age a person should know about sex and right from wrong.

There is no excuse for the girl's parents lack of responsibility.

I'm not really sure what your point is.

Rape is rape whether it is with a 13-yo with issues or a 13-yo without issues.  Rape is rape whether she is 13, 23, 33, 43, or whatever age.

Neither of which would have stayed his sentence pending the outcome.

Why should it have? The guy plead guilty and was convicted, and deserved a sentence. What should have happened to him, if he stayed, pending the outcome?

I can understand how someone might disagree with the sentence and have questions about the judge, but skipping out on the entire legal process isn't the remedy either.

Because if the sentence was tainted by judicial misconduct, isn't it kinda unfair to let the judge sentence him anyway? And force him to do the time until he can prove the judge misbehaved? Maybe it's just me, but I take locking people up in cages pretty seriously. The judge was also going to make him voluntarily self-deport.

I agree that skipping out on the legal process isn't a remedy. That's my point. There is no remedy when the legal process malfunctions. So what do you do? Are you saying you just accept the injustice and do the time? Because it's no big deal? People have been locked up for decades for legal process malfunctions.

ETA: He should have been sentenced by a fair and impartial judge to an appropriate sentence, considering the victim's statement and the joint recommendations of the prosecutor and the defense attorney on the plea agreement. Just like everybody else.

"Roman Polanski gave a 13-year-old girl a Quaalude and champagne, instructed her to get into a jacuzzi naked, refused to take her home when she begged to go, began kissing her even though she said no and asked him to stop; performed cunnilingus on her as she said no and asked him to stop; put his penis in her vagina as she said no and asked him to stop; asked if he could penetrate her anally, to which she replied, "No," then went ahead and did it anyway, until he had an orgasm."

What would you consider an appropriate sentence for such?

Alibsam, are you really saying that if there is any victim who does not want to face their accuser, or wants to put the past behind them, then we should just forget about prosecuting the culprit?

Good job putting words in my mouth.

"If the victim is saying she wasn't raped and she doesn't want to pursue charges why is it anyone else's business?"

That's a direct quote.  Exactly which words did I put in your mouth?

I just cannot believe some of these responses.

  • The 13-yr old girl was partially responsible because she was on drugs.
  • The 13-yr old girl was partially responsible because she wasn't exactly pure and had sex previously.
  • It's the 13-yr old parents' fault.

Are you freaking kidding me?

Are we really justifying what Roman Polanski did by defaming a 13-yr old girl and her parents?

Roman Polanski initiated sexual contact with someone he knew to be underage, persisted after she said no, pled guilty to unlawful intercourse with a minor, and fled the country when he feared he would go to prison anyway.

And we should now just forget about it because it was so long ago? Or because the girl - lady now - doesn't want to relive her past? How many rape victims don't want to face their attacker and make their story public?

Alibsam, are you really saying that if there is any victim who does not want to face their accuser, or wants to put the past behind them, then we should just forget about prosecuting the culprit?

3CXOD, are you really saying that a 13-yr old girl - no matter the circumstances - should be as accountable to her decisions as a 44-yr old?

Freaking unbelievable.

Sure it's possible.  Anything is possible.  But likely?

I'm willing to bet that whatever the motive was in the killing, listening to "Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh or other extreme right wingers" was not the reason.

Blaming "Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh and their Fox buddies" for this tragedy is about the dumbest, most ridiculous thing I've heard.  Statements like that prove once again the stupidity of people making everything a Republican vs. Democrat issue.

Seriously...are you really that ignorant and naive?

I would say stay out of it.

However I also would talk to the guy and tell him to leave my daughter alone and not bother her anymore.  Actually your husband should do that.

But everything else, MYOB.

Deal with it.

If you decide you want to get back together and do so, then you can be upset if he flirts with other women.

Meanwhile, it's your problem, not his.
