Happy St. Patty's Day, everyone!

We went out Saturday night and had a whizz banger of a night.  The scale was not friendly yesterday, but it's back down today to 152.9.  I'll take the slight up hoping it will be back down by Friday.

LadyE -- I'll definitley drop you a line on Fridays.  Your soy smoothies, by the way, are a breakfast staple in the mornings for me. Love them!

Have a great day everyone and hope to see you on the boards!

Week 3: 155.5

Week 4: 155  BF: 28.5%

Week 7:  152.2 BF: 27.8%

Week 8: 152 BF: 27.7%

Well, I know it's only 3.5 pounds total, but the difference in how I feel now compared to the beginning of the challenge is incredible.  I actually feel like maybe, just maybe, I might be able to get into the 140's by May (which is my next personal goal).  I'm losing soooooo sllllloooowly, but I've come to terms with that as well.  Before I would have binge days/ nights when I sort of would give up on myself, now I just remind myself that it's a marathon not a sprint.

Thank to you everyone for participating in this challenge!  Without the accountability, I know I would have let myself cheat more often.  I'll check back in on Tuesday for a bonus weigh-in and final goodbyes (for now).  My offer still stands if anyone would like to be a check-in buddy via CC Messaging weekly.  Also, don't forget that Momof2 is running a Spring Into May challenge as well.

Good luck, everyone!

We can do whichever -- doesn't matter to me.  My weight is actually better mid-week than it is on Fridays for some reason, so I wouldn't mind a last hoorah weigh-in on Tuesday. Wink

Someone had asked about my Biggest Loser competition and I forgot to answer.  My mom's group that I run locally (there are about 50 of us who live in this area and get together for playgroups with our kids every week) runs a Biggest Loser comp to coincide with every season of the tv show.  We weigh-in on Fridays as well for the group.  I'm not necessarily in the running by any stretch (I really don't have that much left to lose anymore, so it's so much harder for me at this point), but I like to participate to help motivate everyone else and keep myself on track as well.  It's lots of fun!  We do prizes for weigh-in winners, raffles for anyone who lost any weight, and grand prizes for our Biggest Loser and runner up at the end.

I'll plan on weighing-in tomorrow and then checking back on Tuesday.  I don't want to commit to another challenge on here, but I'd be willing to stay in touch with anyone who wants a buddy to check in with them weekly.

This week's challenge:  Portion Control

I know I'm super guilty of guessing how much I'm eating (that looks like about a cup!), and I'm pretty sure my eyes sometimes play little tricks on me.  It's time to get back out those measuring cups and spoons!  You don't have to go overboard, but choose one or two of your most often eaten foods, or that "small" glass of evening wine (guilty as charged here!).  Pour yourself your usual glass or dole out your usual portion THEN measure to see how well your eyeballing is working.  If your guesstimating right -- fabulous!  If not, maybe it's time to go back to measuring for a week to set those eyes straight.

Some other tricks are to pre-portion snacks, make a mark on a glass for your pour line, and use a kitchen scale when following a recipe.

Happy losing, everyone!

Hey -- still here, just got back from vacation in Vegas.  What a fun week!  And I am super proud of how I did despite all of the foodie temptations I could hardly resist.  The alcohol consumption could have been better, but eh, I at least walked a ton during the days and even bucked up the $25 fee to use the hotel gym a couple of days so I could keep up with my lifting.

CBF: 27.8%

So we are on the last stretch of our challenge.  Stay positive and keep focus on the primary goal -- healthy lifetime eating and exercise habits.  We can all make great changes for ourselves!

I agree with the image obsessed media thing, too.  As a mom of 3 kids, let me tell you how miserable the whole "Body After Baby" thing is.  Ugh!  I hate, hate, hate when they praise the celebrities who go back to looking like teenagers within weeks of having babies and then totally mock those more realistic celebrities who take longer.  First, we all know the advantages of having access to personal trainers and dieticians, etc.  Second, this is their bread and butter -- of course they are going to devote a work days worth of time and energy to getting back into pre-pregnancy evening wear!  I was so depressed and miserable five months after having my last baby because I hadn't lost any weight and was still wearing maternity clothes.  So much so that I didn't stop to think about the wonderful miracle I had been blessed to participate in - bringing a new little person into the world!  Oh, well.  The best we can do is try to focus on the healthy habits and positive life long changes we are making.

I'm so glad Mom of 2 is running another challenge.  I'm going to be bowing out of the challenges for awhile since I have my mom's group Biggest Loser competition going until mid-May.  I'll be sure to keep checking in with you all after St. Patty's day comes round!

Stay positive!  Keep thinking healthy thoughts!!

This week's challenge:  Go Vegetarian (for one day)

Protein is a super important component of weight loss -- it makes you feel full and helps repair muscle damage resulting from exercise, especially strength training.  We all know that lean meats are a great source of protein, but what about other, vegetarian sources?  To stretch yourself this week -- try going vegetarian for a whole day, making sure to keep up with your protein needs.  For our purposes you can keep dairy (we won't do a vegan day, unless you're feeling up to it!), but try to find other sources of protein besides meats for all of your meals and snacks for 24 hours.

Google "vegetarian protein sources" for a jump start.

Good luck!

Ok, this is the sound me holding my breath                                          {{{this is me whispering so my body doesn't hear me . . . . i think i might be starting to sllllloooooowwwwly breaking my plateau.}}}  I feel different and just overall a lot more positive than I have in a long time.  I know it's not leaps and bounds, but my cravings are gone, I've ditched the nightly wine habit (even though it was only 1 and occasionally 2 glasses a night), and my body just feels healthier.  I can run faster and longer than I have been able to in a long time, so maybe finally all of my holisitic medicine efforts are finally paying off in more than just better blood pressure (which was important, not to diminish that).  We'll see, I guess.

Tink -- my heart goes out to you because I know how you feel.  I have been bouncing between this 153 to 157 things for months and months and months.  If you ask my friends and family they will tell you I don't need to lose any weight, but I know that 10 pounds would really make me feel good and give me the best health chances possible (at 155 I'm considered moderately obese based on my height and my BMI is 25.1 -- 24 is considered normal).  When you're so close it's soooo much harder and your motivation is totally different.  I have days where I feel like, "screw it!  I look good enough and I am healthy enough -- why bother??" and so then I mess myself up even more than before.  Over the last several weeks -- a major streak for me these last few months -- I have been sticking to my guns each and every day -- no more "cheat" days or meals -- and have been finally honest with myself about the little things that I do exercise and eating wise that add up to big problems.  I am terrible about "tasting" a bite or two of my kids meals, we were eating out too often, I had too many binge nights with the vino, too much snacking in front of the tv, etc.  I kept telling myself that it was only a little bit here and there, but I'm starting to believe that it all adds up for me.  You know?

Anyway -- that was more of a journal entry than a reply, but I just want you to know that I understand how frustrated you are.  Try to stay positive and find little things that you can change to help you reach your big goals.  Big hugs!!!!!!

This week's challenge:  Squat and lunge your way to a great butt!

Even though it's only a few days, this challenge will have you thankful there weren't extra days added on!  From now till Friday, try to sneak in as many squats and lunges as you can -- squat while you brush your teeth, lunge your way to the mailbox (ignore the stares -- they'll be staring at your great butt soon enough!), squat while you microwave your veggies.  Whenever and wherever you can work them in -- squat and lunge away!

Hey there!  Sorry I haven't checked in -- my son and daughter's birthday was this past weekend, so I've been running around crazy the last few days.  I weigh-in with my mom's group on Friday morning at 157 and almost passed out since the day before I had been 154.  I weigh-in again this morning at my doctor's office and I was at 154 fully clothed, so I'm thinking that's 153 au natural Laughing.  My doc thinks I might have a thyroid issue that's causing my weight loss plateau.  I'm going to have some tests run to see if that's the case.  Oh, well. We'll see.

I know their are other people who are feeling frustrated, too.  I honestly don't have any good advice since I'm in the same boat right now, but I will say that I try to focus on how good I feel and how I keep making good eating and exercise choices despite the lack of positive reinforcement.  I think that's a major mental turning point for me.  In the past, I would have long since given up after so many months of not seeing the scale move in my favor and just gone back to bad habits and skipped the gym.  Now I am so committed to healthy living that I try really hard to shrug off the lack of losing any weight as much as I can and just look into trying some new healthy recipe or adding a new exercise to my routine.  Hopefully those of you who are stuck, too, try to remember to focus on the good things as well. Smile

Congrats to our losers!  Way to go everyone!  Keep up positive attitudes and positive things will happen for you!

This week's challenge:  Take your vitamins!

During weight loss it is easy to accidently deprive your body of needed nutrients by limiting or eliminating certain foods from your diet in an effort to lose weight.  It's "vita"lly important to make sure that your body is still getting the RDA of the major vitamins and minerals it needs to keep working.

If you don't already, check into a multi-vitamin to add to your daily routine.  Go to your local health food store, doctor, or pharmacist for help choosing a good supplement for you!

I know I should be doing happy dances, but I'm a bit frustrated because I am losing sooooooooo slloooooowwwww - and it's weight I had gained back around the holidays anyway.  Sigh.  Johgar, I'm with you -- I'm so tired of yo-yoing between 153-157.  I have actually been thinking about doing a juice fast for a few days to help cleanse and hopefully kick myself into weight loss gear.

On a more positive note --  I added extra exercise minutes to each of my workouts this week and also did fabulous with my eating.  I chose to cut out my daily 1-2 glasses of wine and hope that will help me as well over the coming weeks.  I am heading out to Bikram this morning and looking forward to some running tomorrow, so a great weekend of exercise ahead of me hopefully.

CONGRATS to all you losers this week!  WooHoo!!  You are all doing so fabulous and so inspiring.

Weekly Challenge: Little changes make big differences.

Ok, sometimes it's the little things that make a big difference.  This week take a good look at your exercise and eating habits.  We can all make little adjustments that might pay off big in the end.  Can you sneak in 10 extra minutes for your workout each day this week?  Can you trade in water for one soda or juice?  Sometimes drastic change isn't needed -- just a little alteration can make a world of difference!

Don't feel depressed, Uberman!  You're doing all the right things -- sometimes it just takes a while for the scale to cooperate. Smile

I'm still stuck at 155, but that's ok.  I did my best this week given the arrival of TOM (FINALLY!) and company in town.  I'm running late to head out of town, so I can't write much now, but will check back in.

Great job everyone!  Keep up the good work and positive attitudes!

Sorry for the late reply -- last week was completely crazy.  My littlest was really sick from Wednesday through Saturday, and my older daughter and I went camping for Girl Scouts over the weekend.  Trying to pack and get ready for that with a sick two year old was tough!

I did weigh myself Friday, but never had a chance to get online to log the info.  here it is:

CW: 155.5

LW: 156

BF%: 28.5

I managed to still do well with eating and exercising last week.  I've been doing the Bikram poses throughout the day and after I workout to help with post workout soreness.

I did ok over the weekend with the camp food and all, and since we had to walk everywhere and did the challenge course on Saturday for 4 hours (HARD!), I got lots of exercise, too.  Last night, however, I went crazy with the wine for no reason that I could figure out.  I had 4 glasses of wine from dinner till bed,  Crazy!

I got to the gym this a.m. and did pretty well all day today, so I'm just looking forward to getting through this next week (cousin coming into town and then we're driving north to meet up with another cousin on Friday night), then next week life will FINALLY be back to a relative calm (the first since November!).

Hope everyone is doing well this week.  I'll skip challenge for the rest of the week and post another Thursday night to get a jump start on it for next.

My weigh-in is going to be awful tomorrow.  I have been on an eating binge the last two days that I can only blame on a very delayed TOM (at least I hope so).  I've done worse the last two days that I did the entirety of the holiday season!  Ugh!  It's not what I'm eating so much as how much of everything I've been eating -- and so late in the day, too.  Oh well.  So far today I'm staying focused. Tomorrow's weigh-in will be a new start for sure.

That's a great idea, U-man!  I don't usually use the CC log because I keep mine in a written form on my counter.  I use it mostly as a food diary and also a weight tracker.  Since I am going to start training for running the half-marathon next year, I want to also start using it as a training log.

I'll start trying to jot some thoughts in the CC log as well, though.  It's a good tool to have access too!

Well, I weighed in this morning and was kind of bummed based on where I was for the end of the last challenge:

SW this challenge: 155.6

GW this challenge: 145

I know the number is a little high due to a weekend of eating at restaurants for every meal, plus TOM is due tomorrow, so hopefully by Friday I will have seen a drop.  Friday starts my mom's group's Biggest Loser challenge as well, so I'll have triple the motivation -- Stew's Crew, Biggest Loser and Half-Marathon training!

NYCBride -- I noticed you mentioned the couch to 5k program.  I loosely followed that over the last 12 weeks to prepare for the Disney 5k this past weekend.  I am SO NOT a runner and it got me prepared for sure.  I ran the whole 5k and in only 30:32 -- when I started I could maybe run for one mile in about 12 minutes, so I was super proud of myself!  Good luck!  Let me know how it's going!

This week's challenge: Start Journaling

A great way to actualize goals is to set-up a method for posting your goals and then showing your progress in attaining them.  If you don't already, start journaling about your weight loss journey.

Your journal can be written, typed, Blogged, kept here on Calorie Count -- whatever is easiest and most convenient for you.  Start by stating a short term, realistic goal as well as a long term goal.  The short term goal should have something to do with your long term goal, for instance:

Long Term Goal: Lose 15 Pounds by March 17

Short Term Goal: Exercise 30 minutes every day this week

Achieving the short term goals will help boost your confidence as well as help you on your path to being successful in your long term goal pursuits as well.

You journal can be as packed or streamlined as you like -- food diary, weight loss/ gain chart, body fat chart, exercise log, goal outfit scrapbook, measurement log, diary -- you name it, it's your tool to success!

Hey all!  Welcome to the new folks and welcome back to long time pals! Laughing  Sorry for the delay -- my husband, three kids and I were at Disney World this weekend for their Marathon Weekend events.  I ran the 5k Friday morning, my children all participated in the kids races, and my husband ran the Marathon today.  We had such a great time, and I was totally inspired to commit to the Half Marathon for next year (which is huge for me because I really am not a runner AT ALL! LOL)

I'll do a late weigh-in tomorrow morning and report in.  I'll also set up a Google Docs spreadsheet like last time for those who wish to use it, but I won't have it ready until Friday's next weigh-in.

Special welcome back to Tink and Momof2 -- great to see you both again!  We'll all get back on track together, Tink!

Since I won't have a spreadsheet up until Friday, I'll keep us open until Wednesday of this week then close us until the end of the challenge.

Happy Losing, everyone!

On a positive note, I made it to Bikram this morning and feel better for it.  I'm hoping to make it again tomorrow as well.  Actually, if I could make it every day this week, that should hopefully get rid of the extra water retention from the holiday.

Well, now I am super sleepy but have to go chase little ones around -- you'd think that alone would help me shed these last 10-15 lbs! LOL Wink

Well, I stepped on the scale this morning and it was at 154 -- that's up 4 lbs from last week!  I am not going to "count it" though, because I ran every day this week and only went over my cals/ ate junk Christmas Day.  I think that 154 was food weight plus water weight from the salty Christmas Ham and lots of vino.

Next Friday is our official final weigh-in for this challenge.  I liked the idea of a St. Patrick's Day challenge next.  Anyone else in?

This week's challenge: Stretch it Out!

Stretching is a really important activity that most of us never do.  It helps with flexibility and decreasing the chance of injury during and after exercise.  A few simple stretching or yoga poses every day will make a huge difference in how you feel AND how you look.

Check this site out for some simple daily stretches:

http://physicaltherapy.about.com/od/flexibili tyexercises/ss/MorningStretch.htm

Check this site out for some simple yoga stretches:

http://yoga.about.com/od/yogasequences/ss/dai lystretch.htm

Your challenge this week is to devide a daily stretching ritual.  Try to stretch every day for one week and see if you begin to notice a difference!
