Weight Loss detox diet? Apr 03 2009

I used a program called Isagenix to lose 25+ lbs and it is touted as a detox or cleansing diet, and I do give some weight to the detox effect especially on cravings, etc.  But ultimately the program resulted in weight loss because of the calorie restriction.  The cleansing portion of the program was helpful in a variety of ways, so I wouldn't dismiss it as completely usless as a lot of these other posters have suggested.

To each their own!  Good luck to you!

Weight Loss It's not even 5 pm and I've already eaten all my calories for the day.... Apr 03 2009

Are you trying to obtain a certain calorie deficit based on your activity level each day?  What about adding some calorie burn to your evening to accomodate the calories that you eat tonight above what you had allotted yourself for the day?  I know that some may consider that exercise bullemia, but I see no harm in doing it every once in a while.

What about sugars in fruit and milk, etc.  Are you allowing yourself to have those?  I'm doing the same thing as you are, that is trying to eliminate both sugar and artificial sweetners.  It's going ok so far; I've definitely had some sugars though.  Mostly of the fruit variety; in strawberries yesterday at the superbowl party we hosted, and in the couple pieces of dried fruit I've eaten in my trail mix--but that's it.  So, I don't really have any good suggestions to help you, but I'm dealing with it too!

Good luck!

Weight Loss I now weigh more than my husband Dec 26 2008

I don't have a husband anymore, but when I did have a husband I weighed more than him post-partum also.  Don't be too hard on yourself.  You gained the weight during pregnancy, and there's no changing that fact.  Just make the necessary changes going forward and you'll get back down to your pre-pregnancy weight.  Just remember to MAKE the time for you; which is so hard to do with a little one needing you so frequently.

Pre-pregnancy, I was 167 (@ 5'10") and during my 9th month pregnant I weighed 220.  After I had my son, I got down to 190 within the first month, but "let myself go" at some point after that and got all the way up to 230 POST-pregnancy.  Oy vay.  Through the years after I had my son (he's 6 now), I lost that weight little by little, and am now lower than my pre-pregnancy weight.

I remember my 5 year old neice telling me (at one month post-partum) that "wives should be smaller than husbands." That was just one of the many realizations I went through to finally motivate myself enough to lose the baby weight!

There are a lot of wives bigger than their husbands, so don't beat yourself up because of that one small fact.  Try to distance yourself from that comparison; HE didn't just have a baby and HIS body didn't and isn't dealing with the hormonal flucuations that you are, so you're compaing apples to oranges.  It's not a contest between you and him who can be smaller, it's about being happy with the size you are.  So if you're not happy, work hard, lose the weight and get to a point where you are happy : ) Good luck!

I don't think it would be TOTALLY horrible to do that every once in a while. The shakes really do provide a lot of what you need.  But I think, in my case at least, one of the biggest benefits to losing weight on the Isagenix program was re-learning how to eat right, while losing weight.  The shakes provided me with all the things my body needed while I learned moderation and potion control.  They effectively nourished me, and satiated my hunger, and the weight came off quick!  I felt so good while on the 30 day program.  I'm actually looking at getting back on it, but not for the weight loss, but just for the non-caffine induced energy it also provided.

But getting back to your question...I definitely wouldn't recommend 3 shakes EVERY day.  You've gotta be able to eat real food, because once you're off the program, every meal with be real food, and you need to be able to make healthy choices, and watch portion control/exercise moderation.  You'll see!  Those will become the key to maintaining your weight loss.

Good luck to you!

Lauren, that's funny about looking into the mirror.  I lost the bulk of my weight (25lbs) in a matter of 2 1/2 months at the beginning of this year, and during that time, and for I'd say about 5 months after I couldn't get enough of looking at myself in the mirror!  I guess the buzz has finally worn off at this point.  Now I look at my old pics and am a bit embarrassed about where I started at (and I don't even have ANY pics of me from when I was at my very biggest of 220!!)  I was always ok with myself, even at 220, I've never had a bad self-image no matter what the scale has told me...but the embarrasment stems from knowing now, how little really needs to be eaten every day.  I used to stuff my face all day everyday.  Usually with foods that weren't by themselves unhealthy, but the sheer quantity and volume of food was outrageous.  The miracle, I've come to realize is that I never gained more than I did, from eating as much as I did!  Thank the lord for that : )

I think you're spot on regarding letting my body adjust to the new pill.  Though it was completely disheartening to see 154 when I had been below 150, I've been dropping slowly since.  So as long as EACH month, there is not a spike in weight, I think I can stick to this new BCP.   Additionally, my bra size went up along with the scale from the new BCP, so I don't want to switch and lose that perk ; )

Anyway though, congrats on your 1 lb down this week! WTG! I haven't seen a drop like that in a long time!  Since March in fact.  When I see it go down, it's usually in 1/4 pound increments once or twice a week.  I'll take what I can get though : )

Hope every body else had a good week, too!

How's everyone doing?  Any progress this week?

I was at 152.0 this morning.  I've had a couple of interesting, and uncommon (for me) things that have been affecting my weight over the past 2 weeks.  I started a new BCP, and it's made me gain.  I went up from 149.4 to 154 over the past two weeks, and the only change: the different pill.  I also started on Cytomel on Monday morning, and that's definitely helping.  I was really glad to see 152.0 this morning; 154.0 was discouraging!

I just wanted to addend my original post to share my thoughts on the generic form of yasmin that I was given by my pharmacy this month....my personal opinion: not as good as the original Yasmin, not by a long shot.  I've been on it for 2 weeks and my boobs are killing me & they've nearly doubled in size (I've been a happy 34 or 36 A before these past two weeks.)  No, in case it's crossing your mind right now, I'm not pregnant.  The only change has been the pill.  I had JUST dipped below 150 lbs for the first time since I was in high school, and now my scale's telling me 154.  This is a matter of TWO WEEKS we're talking about!  I'm very, very disappointed in the generic, and I'll be returning to my doctor this month to have her prescribe me the brand name only.

Has anybody else experienced similar discrepancies in the way your body reacts to brand name vs. generic birth control pills?

I'd like in on this group!  I'm 27 years old, 5'10", 151.2 this AM, and goal of 145.  Just a few more pounds, but darn have they been hard to tackle.  I'm eating well, and exercizing a lot, but the last few just don't want to come off.  I need to drop my calories a little lower than where they're at (about 1700-1800/day currently) but I've been lazy in that sense.  As we all know, it takes a lot of energy to make good, low calorie food choices day in and day out, and I just haven't been sticking to it as well as I need to in order to lose.  My lowest weight so far has been 149.4  (THAT felt good to see the scale under 150 for the first time since I was 16 years old : )

While I was on isagenix, it was not so much of a challenge to eat the right # of calories everyday, but I guess in the past 4 months, I've lost some of the dedication it takes.

With regards to my motivation...I think half the problem is that I don't have any thing specific prompting me to want to continue to lose OTHER THAN that when I started isagenix in January, I set a goal for myself of 140.  I stalled out for a long time (on isagenix) at 153, so at that point I re-adjusted my goal to 145. Instead of continuing with the program (at a cost of $284/mo) I thought I could get past my plateau with out the help of Isagenix.  I have had some success with doing so,  but basically I'm only continuing on in order to attain the goal I set for myself.  I'm happy at the size I'm in (size 6) but bothered by falling short of the goal.

I just want to say my peace about Yasmine.  I LOVE yasmine!  It has been wonderful for me, and not caused me to gain any weight whatsoever!!!!  I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2004, though I'm asymptomatic at this point.  Back in high school, I tried Ortho Tricycline and it was very much like the horrible outcome you described above.  I gained weight, was depressed, etc etc etc.  My theory is that you'll need to try other pills to see which one jives with your body, and doesn't give you the horrific side effects.  Good luck!

Foods oops, guess I still can't trust myself around chocolate. Apr 04 2008

I had a really bad problem with chocolate before.  I was seriously to the point where I felt like IT controlled ME.  I posted a topic on a yahoo forum about it, and received a great tip that really helped me over come my chocolate addiction.  The candy dish that, even to this day, sits out at my office is always full of various kinds of candy.  I have to walk by it atleast 10 times per day.  It used to get me each and every time I walked past, but now it's very occasional that I allow myself to have a piece.  The tip that helped me said to smell the chocolate, and that alone will satisfy your craving.  When I read that reply to my post, I literally rolled my eyes.  I didn't believe for a second that smelling chocolate would help me not to put it in my mouth.  But I gave it a fair shake, and it worked!  It wasn't immeadiate, but it taught me that I really did have self control, and that I did not have to take a peice from the dish each time I walked past.

I recommend you try it yourself!  I hope it works as well for you as it did for me.  Not all chocolate smells alike : )  Hersheys milk chocolate (bite sized pieces) worked pretty well,  as it gives off a stong scent that smells just like it tastes (sounds obvious, but not all chocolate smells the same as it tastes!)
