The Lounge Do you shut the door on Jehovah's witnesses? Jun 10 2008

That is exactly what I have experienced.  They spend so much time going to meetings, reading literature and magazines, and volunteering that they are worshipping the organization rather than God.  I feel like they care more about the JW organization than they actually care about God.  Its very weird indeed.  They are only allowed to hang out with eachother.  I've never met a group of people with such superiority complexes.  Very elitist.  My husband was shunned after he left the first time.  He went back and they all took him back with open arms, but the minute he stopped going to the meetings not one person has called since.  What a bunch of hypocrites!  The very second one person falters and isn't doing exactly what the organization tells them to do everyone just simply turns their backs.  True Christians would reach out and try to be supportive to that person and help them...these are definitely not true Christians like they claim to be.  I'm glad he isn't into it anymore!

Slenderbutts -- did your husband every try to get you to convert?  My husband grew up a JW.  He left the organization as a teenager then tried to go back to it as an adult looking for some stability in his life.  He turned into a completely different person and had to go on antidepressants.  He couldn't deal with the incredible amount of personal time that needed to be devoted to the "organization".  I figured I would go and see what it was all about but it was way too elitist for me.  He ended up leaving again because he remembered how hypocritical everyone was.  Sad really.....

I have first hand knowledge of JWs and their practices.   If you tell them "please do not call on my house again" they have to write it down on a paper record as "do not call" and your house will be removed from their list.  Also, if you put a "no trespassing" sign up they are instructed to not tresspass onto your property.  If you do not answer the door they will keep coming back to try to speak with you.  Answer the door and specifically tell them not to return if you do not want them to return.  If you hide and don't answer the door, they mark down on a piece of paper "not at home" and will try to return on another day.

You can get a Bachelor's degree in Accounting at a public university. Its usually offered through a university's business school (at least at UCONN it is). Anyway, my roomate there got a degree in accounting and went on to law school to study tax law. I don't think its the most exciting or glamourous career but she makes a butt-load of money!

Even though this is 100% unrealistic....I would love to have a panda bear. Or a black leopard...I saw one on Animal Planet's "Growing up..." show and I think it would get along great with my 2 house cats (kidding). But that would be kind of funny to watch.

I read National Geographic like crazy...current issues and back issues. They have endless amounts of interesting articles and I'm always learning something new. To challenge my brain I also spend many evenings doing crossword puzzles and crypotgrams.

I used to listen to Live 365 at work but then they started making too many of the stations I liked VIP stations and I had to buy a membership (which I didn't do). It also seemed to have a lot of connectivity problems. I listen to 1clubFM now....its really good and they don't have as many ads.

I live about 25 minutes from Yale and the local news media hasn't given this story the type of attention I think this girl was looking for. I can appreciate the fact that she is trying to provoke people through her art, but I think the way in which she promted this was really sick....even if it was a hoax.

Weight Loss Two weeks & nothing!! Apr 17 2008

I think that is normal. I was counting calories and running and I lost nothing for about 5 weeks and then everything changed. Its easy to get discouraged because you want to see results right away but just stayed focused and eventually your body WILL respond. Based on what I've read on other threads on this site this happens to other people too. So I guess my only advice is be patient and stay on track! Good luck

I'm glad Kristy Lee is gone because she didn't have many good performances and was always in the bottom 3.

Jason Castro is kind of one-dimensional.  He does the same type of song/performance every week, sitting down, with that weird smiley-face thing he does.  If he made an album I think all of the songs would sound exactly the same and it would be boring.

Brooke White and her " gee golly...that's okay" attitude is nice and all, but I think she would have better success as a singer/songwriter.

I liked Carly in the beginning but she is becoming hit or miss lately.   She needs to work on her angry-face when she sings.

David Cook and David A are both really good

Syesha is the next to go

Weight Loss I took the diet pill SEA-THIN and GAINED 10 lbs Apr 17 2008

Don't waste your money on diet pills.  Losing weight takes time and effort....period.   You are better off staying on track with regular exercise and cutting back calories.  If diet pills actually worked as well as they claim then we would not have an obesity epidemic because everyone could simply pop a pill.  Many of them are not regulated and who knows what ingredients they contain.   You said you wanted a pill that didn't contain "too many weird ingredients".  Why would you be willing to ingest ANY weird ingredients?  Diet pills are a multi billion dollar industry because people are lured in by the promise of a quick fix or an extra edge.  It is a for-profit enterprise and these companies are not interested in helping you to lose weight....they are interested in making money.  Losing weight is free.  It does not cost money to go for a walk or to put less food in your mouth.  You are doing a great job already!!  Keep it up and throw the pills in the trash!

Oh that is nasty! I swear guys must know that their junk is on dispay and they do it on purpose. Seriously....what if I went to the gym with no bra and my boobs were hanging out for everyone to see? These people must know before they walk out of the house that they are giving a show and do it anyway.
Weight Loss Coffee and weight loss? Apr 17 2008

I have one cup in the morning (black -- no cream, no sugar). It has never supressed or increased my appetite. I think some people gain weight with coffee because they load it with cream and sugar and that can be a lot of extra calories if you have a few cups per day.
The Lounge Oprah's Internet Class - A New Earth - Anyone watching? Apr 17 2008

I think his new book is a recycle of his old ideas that he has previously published (similiar to "The Power of Now"). But, anyone looking to jump on the Oprah bandwagon might find it interesting. I think he is egotistical and has basically ripped off buddhism for personal monetary gain. You can get more enlightenment from the teachings of actual spiritual leaders and not this guy. He is a sham....sorry

Years ago I took Ortho Novum and gained 20 pounds in one month and freaked out. So my doctor put me on Estrostep and it was great....no weight gain or mood swings. Now I have the generic version called Tilia and I've lost a few pounds and I hardly have any period at all. If you notice sudden weight gain on the pill you are taking call your doctor immediately and have them change it.

I tend to look in the fridge and pick at food when I'm bored. It will start with leftovers then it will turn to weird things like eating grated parmesean cheese. I also just stand in front of the fridge and don't actually put anything on a plate. I had to stop buying peanut butter because I will eat the whole jar in one day. One thing that helps me is I say "Stop" out loud and I stop myself from eating anything more. Unless I tell myself to stop its almost as if I'm on auto pilot eating whatever I can find. This doesn't happen to me too often but its very frustrating when it does.

LOL!! These comments are hysterical! There is one girl at my gym who wears shorts so short that her ass cheeks hang down. Its weird and gross. I have also caught a glimpse of a guy's balls coming out of his shorts while sitting on a weight machine. Cover up people!

I can totally relate to the frustrations of job hunting! My company recently had a mass layoff (mortgage industry) and I was searching for over a month. The best thing you can do is network like crazy. Talk to everyone you know and let them know you are looking for work. Leads from people you know are usually more solid and yield better results. Luckily I found another job and I start on Monday. Try to stay positive and keep focused! Good luck :)

I am completely new to gardening so I just bought one of those seed starter trays and I'm going to plant rosemary, cilantro, thyme, and green onions. I noticed 3 of the cups in the tray are already starting to sprout! Then I guess I need to transplant them in about another month. I'm excited to have fresh herbs this summer so I really hope this works out!

My cats stay indoors but last week one of them escaped out the front door. He stayed on the steps and started licking the house. I guess he really enjoyed the taste of vinyl siding! Other than that he likes to chew on my hair when I'm sleeping. My other cat eats nothing but cat food (good kitty).

I tried her chickpea burgers and they were tasty! I like that she is focused on helping people to realize that vitamin and mineral intake is just as important as losing weight. Its so funny when she tells people they must have a lot of gas based on what they eat. And they agree with her!

When I mention to someone that I'm working out/running/going to the gym and they say "You don't need to exercise". That is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Everyone needs daily physical activity to maintain their health. So I guess what they really want for me is to sit on the couch instead of going for a jog? Yeah, makes total sense. Since I don't "need" to exercise I might as well get some bon-bons and park my butt right down on that cushion.

I did see that episode! It was great. The one I especially liked was the mother with 2 younger kids that said she didn't bother giving her kids healthy foods because she was sure they would never eat it. Then, when Gillian gave them a hummus wrap to try the kids said it was delicious. Ha ha ha!! Then Gillian yelled at the mom because she was making an assumption that the kids wouldn't like it, but in reality, they had never even had the chance to try healthy food.

I do kind of feel bad when the parents who are stuffing their kids with junk start to cry when they realize what they are doing. You see the "wake up" moment in them and its kind of sad.

What really bugs me is the people who make faces and gag when they are trying something healthy and say its gross and they can't eat it. Give me a break!

Yikes! I've never felt the desire to be rescued or taken care of. I guess my foundation is more independent and practical and less "fairy tale". My husband and I take control of different aspects of our marriage because we are good at doing different things. I'm good at finances and he is good at lawn care.

I thought I was the only one who watched it! Its on BBC America. I love the way Gillian is brutally honest with the people when she shows them their weekly food intake and makes comments on how "disgusting" it is. Her menu plan sounds yummy but would take a lot of careful grocery shopping and preparation. The whole BM thing is weird but I guess you can find out a lot about someone by analyzing their poo. I've actually tried some of her recipes on her website and they were pretty good!

Thankfully I now have a very supportive husband. When we were dating I was about 150lbs and lost a dramatic amount of weight a few months later down to 115lbs. He said he loves me and I'm beautiful at any weight (currently 131lbs). Although he does still bring junk food into the house occasionally he understands that we need to be healthy. Since I've been doing most of the cooking lately he will eat whatever I put in front of him and thanks me for every meal.

As far as him telling you "you spend too much time at the gym" I think men have a tendency to act like babies when they aren't receiving 100% of your attention. Mine did the same thing a few years ago and once we talked it out he admitted that he was jealous I was spending time away from him and would rather have me home. God forbid I didn't spend every waking hour doting on him and serving his every need. Women need time for ourselves and should never be made to feel guilty about taking it!

I always get the "weight management" Pear and Endive salad minus the cheese and minus the dressing. It sounds boring, but if the salad starts at 590 cals (I think) then modifying it brings it into line with my allowed calorie intake for the day. Since the portion is huge anyway I'm always full after eating it.

This is sick. These adults who perpetuate this should be locked up. These young girls are kept seculded from anyone outside of this community and are told how "evil" the outside world is. I wonder how many want to leave but are too scared because of the lies they have been told.
