Foods [HELP] Calories of corn on cob Aug 14 2009

when you type in corn, there is an option for a small, medium, or large ear of corn, so you should be able to guesstimate.

Otherwise as the previous poster said, a food scale is your best option.  That will give you the most accurate count.

Maintaining Maintenance Question... do you keep logging food? Aug 11 2009

I have been maintaining since January, and I still log during the week, but not on the weekends.  I am not so much worried about eating too much, but I want to make sure I am eating enough so that my metabolism does not slow down.

Just like the previous poster said, I haven't changed my eating style either, just added more calories for maintenance.

I generally walk or hike between 1-1.5 hours a day, 4-5 days a week while my son is at school.

I think you definitely need more if you are exercising for an hour to an hour an a half a day.  I am only getting in about 20 mins of walking per day.

I know it seems strange to up cals to lose weight, but I promise it works :)

I totally agree with increasing your calories.  I am about your size (5'8", 130#), and was losing consistently on 1400 a day. I am now in maintenance (six months) at 1800 a day.

Don't give up, just remember your body needs fuel :)

I don't think the buttermilk would have any more cals than the bran.  They are just plain.  You could also ask for sugar free syrup.  I think almost every restaurant has it.  That would save you about 200 calories right there.

Enjoy yourself, and don't worry about one day out :)

I bought it for a camping trip thinking it would be easy without a lot of dishes and cleanup.  They came out perfect!  And, what a bonus that they aren't terrible for you.

danielle..I am in FL.  The sample I received was from someone that got it on an airplane.  I will have to see if I can buy it online.  It was just "that good"!!

Edit:  I just looked online.  It is called Sun Butter.  they tell you where you can buy it, and they have it at a grocery right near my house.  This is very exciting news, indeed!!

I love all the nut butters that I've tried so far.

I'm now a huge fan of cashew and sunflower seed butter!! YUM!

I was given a sample of the sunflower butter, and I just tried it last week....SO GOOD!!!!!  Do they sell it in average grocery stores?  I haven't seen it.

I am 5'7" as well.  When I was 167 I wore a size 12.

I am now 132 and I wear an 8.  Although...Several of my 8's are too big, and a couple fit perfectly.  It really depends on the brand.

Why the hurry?  You didn't gain 30 pounds in two months, right?

It took me almost a year to lose 35.  I took my time, and implemented a lifestyle change, not a "diet".  It has to be something you can live with for the rest of your life, otherwise, once you go off your diet, it all comes back.

You can do it!  It all starts with that first step.  Good luck :)

Everyone looks different even if they are the same weight.  As you can see from my photos, my high was 167, and I was MUCH bigger than your picture.

I am about 131 now, which is where I feel comfortable.  My doctor was the one that opened my eyes and said she wanted me to lose weight. I'm thankful for that, because I was able to catch it before it got out of hand.

If you are living and eating healthy, don't worry about fitting into a number on the scale.

Oh...I am 5'7" as well.

When I was pregnant, I couldn't even keep down plain old water, and I ended up in the hospital for dehydration.  Not fun, I assure you.   My Dr. put me on Reglan, and that was a lifesaver.

Good luck, and I hope you feel better.

I've been at it for a little over a year myself.  I laughed when I read the part about running to the computer halfway through dinner.  I do the same thing, but now my husband is on here too so we have to take turns :)

I think this is the best site ever.  I am finally at my goal weight, having lost 35 pounds.  It took a year, but I did it VERY slow, and made it a lifestyle change, not a "diet".  this is something I can live with for the rest of my life.  I have no forbidden foods, just portion control.  I am the exact same way when it comes to "spending" my calories on something...It has to be terrific, or I won't bother :)

Thanks for the great post!

I would keep one, but not weigh yourself any more than once every week or so.  This way you can make sure you are keeping on track, and staying within your maintenance range.

I just ordered a few things from carbsmart.com.  I kept hearing people talking about La Tortilla Factory tortillas, but they don't have them in the grocery store where I am.  Anyway, they have a bunch of different items, and the shipping wasn't too steep.  Plus, they were delivered pretty quick.

I just read your last two journal posts, and it looks like you are not eating enough.  You said you eat between 1100-1300 calories a day.  Add in all the exercise, and that is just not enough.

either you're underestimating everything you eat before you started tracking stuff here,

Or, you're not measuring everything you eat correctly - for the cereal, are you sure you're using a cup and measuring out an exact serving? or are you guessing by eye? i know I ate too much cereal for years ebfore I started measuring.

I think you might be underestimating as well.  I didn't realize how much I was underestimating until I invested in a food scale.  It was a real eye opener.

^^you might also try the morningstar ones.  My favorite is the Asian Veggie (only 100 cals), but I think they all taste great.  So yummy.  My husband likes the regular griller ones (more like a regular hamburger)

I wouldn't recommend any of their products. For one, it's not even food, it's a bunch of chemicals and artificial flavourings slathered together. And their products have an unpleasant aftertaste.

I agree some of the products don't taste great, but they do not contain any artificial colors or flavors.  Supposedly all natural according to their website.

"Great taste, no calories - we use only the finest ingredients in Walden Farms Specialties.  Concentrated Natural Flavors. Walden Farms irresistibly sweet calorie free specialties are prepared with real fruit extracts, concentrated natural flavors, rich cocoa and other natural flavorings, all sweetened with Splenda. Our savory specialties are made with hundreds of freshly ground herbs and spices, concentrated natural flavors and the finest aged imported and domestic vinegars."

Thank you both.  I didn't think of heating it before since I never had any trouble with the morningstar ones.  I don't even use Pam with those, I just throw them in and heat them up.  I will try these methods with the Bocas :)

Hi there, I just had Mirena inserted at the end of October.  The only difference I have noticed is that now my breasts are very very painful a couple weeks before my period.  I was hoping not to get a period anymore as a lot of people with Mirena don't.  Me?  Still get it, although much lighter and shorter than before.

Do you find you are just gaining before your period?  I go up by a couple of pounds, then all the sudden its gone again.

As others have said, definitely check with your doctor to make sure nothing else is going on.  Before I got it, I specifically asked my doctor about weight gain as I have worked way too hard to get to where I am.  She assured me it would not affect my weight, and it hasn't.  Everyone's body reacts differently though.

I like the Pumpkin Spice ones as well.  I haven't had any of the other "crunchy" flavors.  I generally buy the Kashi Chewy (Trail Mix, Honey Almond Flax, and Peanut Butter).  So Yummy!  Oh, I just recently tried the Kashi Dark Chocolate Coconut....YUM!

I love wine as well.  I just make room for it in my calories.  I have managed to lose 35 pounds, and I have not given up any of my favorite food or drink.  I usually don't drink much wine during the week, and if I do, it's one glass (which, yes, I weigh).

If you are trying to quit drinking period, maybe replace the habit with another non-alcoholic low calorie beverage/water.

It will be tough given your husband's occupation :(
