| Thank you so much for your replies. It is amazing how much emotion is tied into this whole weight loss/getting healthy journey. It is always so good to be jolted back to reality with replies from other calorie counters! Thanks for easing my mind and discouragement.
To reach my goal weight by my goal date, CC says I should consume 1227 calories. |

| Wow! Congratulations!
I too seem to have no appetite control center in my body. I can eat and eat and eat. If I fill my plate, I will eat it all, regardless of amount. I clean my plate at every sitting. I would love to feel full! I am so happy for you! |

| I am in the same place. I lost weight (60 lbs in 6 months) counting calories and exercising, but over the last two years, I've stopped exercising consistently and I am not nearly so disciplined in what I eat. I too have joined Weight Watchers, just for a change and something new for motivation, but I continue to count calories. I would love to stay in touch with you all and be a part of a recommitted to healthy living group! | |||

| Foods | Sweet Potato! Help! | Nov 24 2007 21:30 (UTC) |

| I go through periods when I eat sweet potatoes daily and it never affects me adversely. I do get a lot of noticeable benefits, however, especially with fiber. I usually eat carrots every day of my life and it hasn't hurt me. In fact, I've done this for two years. I think that as long as you are getting other necessary nutrients from other sources, you are fine. Just don't exclude other fruits and vegetables. | |||

| Foods | that one food everyone likes but you dont.... | Nov 24 2007 19:59 (UTC) |

| Since I started eating healthier in 2005, I am finding that I like things now that I used to hate: olives, tomatoes, oranges, apples, asparagus, greens, sweet potatoes... Yet there are two things that I still cannot eat, no matter how hard I try. And I do try...
I live in coastal / Cajun southeast Louisiana and I detest seafood. It is really quite shocking to everyone around me, who grew up thinking that seafood is the foundation of any good Southern diet. In fact, I am embarrassed by it! When everyone is planning to go to one of the several local seafood restaurants, I have to either stay home or be sure that the menu offers something other than seafood. I can't even stand the smell of it. In fact, I don't like anything that comes out of water except rice and cranberries :). It's unfortunate for a proud Louisianian... I also don't like celery. |

| Motivation | Thanksgiving Dinner - How Many Calories Did You Eat? | Nov 23 2007 05:52 (UTC) |
19 |
| I have no idea how many calories I ate today. I am sure that I ate substantially more than I normally allow (1200 - 1400/day). However, I did a 4-mile Walk Slim dvd this morning, walked a "cross-country" mile in my field post-feast, and did a late 1-mile walk on my treadmill. Also, I ate a lot less than I have in previous years, so all-in-all, I am going to bed feeling victorious. I did all of the cooking, so most of the ingredients were healthier than usual (splenda, lowfat milks and cheeses, no transfat, only olive oil, etc).
I do have one more meal to face tomorrow and it is an out-of-towner for which I am doing none of the cooking, so I will have to be more careful with my eating and I will have little opportunity to exercise. It has been a great Thanksgiving and a good beginning to the holiday season. |

| Weight Loss | is there such thing as permanent fat? | Nov 22 2007 15:44 (UTC) |
|
| Permanent fat...what a horrid thought! I don't know if fat is permanent, but I do know that loose, deflated (or de-fatted?) skin sure is. I hate that! Oh well, I guess loose, deflated skin is better than flabby, fat-filled skin. | |||
| Weight Loss | How soon does muscle show up on the scale? | Nov 22 2007 15:40 (UTC) |
|
| From what I read, and from what I have experienced, the body tends to hold on to any increased water intake, at least at first. And when exercising, the muscles absorb more water. So this could possibly explain some of the weight gain, perhaps.
When I first started my new eating/exercising lifestyle, I lost a steady three pounds a week with good, healthy eating and daily exercise. Now when I exercise (I tend to stop and start a lot), I always gain weight first and retain water! |

| I love Leslie Sansone walking videos, especially the newest four-mile Walk Slim programs. Her workouts slim me down pretty quickly and her exercises are great and not too complicated. I really like her as a person as well! | |||

| While I cannot offer an explanation, I can tell you that I experience the same thing when I start working out and exercising. Bob Greene's latest book recommends not weighing oneself for the first month so as not to get depressed and "de-motivated" by any weight gain. That has helped me to realize that some weight gain is normal when you first begin to exercise. I am not sure, however, if the amount you have gained is normal or not. Have you drastically increased your water intake? | |||

| Hi Amanda,
That is exactly the formula I used to lose 60 pounds: 1200 calories / day and walking to Leslie Sansone workouts. You are going to do so well! |

| Strangely enough, borgesgreen, I find myself not as hungry in the morning if I cut my eating off early the previous evening. I guess my metabolism shuts down. I actually have a harder time eating breakfast when I don't eat late at night. If I eat late at night, I wake up hungry. Guess I'm just weird :) | |||

| united2gether: I've read that in numerous places as well and it makes sense. However, when they both agreed that it was the "single most important" component, I was startled enough to give it a try. It was a rough evening! I ate supper around 5:30 because I had to bring my daughter to cheer practice from 6 to 8 and since I am the cheer sponsor (another reason to stary in shape!), I had to stay, of course. I brought a snack and had it about 7:30 (lots of goldfish crackers), but I guess since I am used to having supper later, I was ravenous by bed time. In my very serious weight loss phase, I always saved a 100 or so calories for the right-before-bed-time, and I still lost considerable weight, so I know that eating late does not seriously hinder weight loss. But I am going to give it a try to see if Bob and Oprah are right :) | |||
